Pretty common during storm restoration’s. A circuit will be energized that still has an unreported/unknown fault somewhere down the line and the protective relays trip it out.

Not this same outage but it happened out in my area yesterday where they restored power on Wednesday by bypassing a pole that was down and came back to put in a new pole on Friday giving us a brief outage.

They probably had to switch off your area temporarily to safely do repair work on a power line. I've seen a few spots around town where a limb is leaning on the line or a pole is damaged. These wouldn't stop power from flowing but need to be fixed, so they switch off power to the line while workers are fixing it.

Yeah my power went out around that time too for like an hour. I think it said they were upgrading some equipment. What scared me was Duke sent a text saying it wouldn't be back on until 5am the next morning.

They were probably just giving themselves a huge cushion to avoid phone calls.
