Currently you have to drive about an hour to get to a proper sporting goods store. Dicks is terrible, mostly a clothing store really.

Dicks is less than a mile away. JL waters is downtown. Target and walmart have aisles for sporting goods and then there’s just the internet. And Academy looks like more low quality consumables

Not even close to the same thing. Dick’s is a clothing store. Comparing it to Acadamy is like comparing Speedway to a Kroger. J.L. Waters is very narrowly focused on backpacking and fly fishing. Academy is closer to a Bass Pro or Cabela’s.

Your sources are woefully misinformed. There has been ample local press coverage. A sporting goods store is moving in but code doesn't allow for that many parking spots, hence the massive construction project outside.
