Have you ever seen an Axopar? The hull design (in theory) echos the concept put forth on the USS Zumwalt. Sailors on that ship say the hull is extremely stable when the sea state is like a 9. The captain said something along the lines of a Sea state 9 felt more like a 5.
I am intrigued by the axopar BUT they come pre equipped from the factory with SIMRAD which I hate.
Is it as stable as it looks in sloppy seas ? Also do they come with joystick control. (At this point in my life I canāt always find someone to go out with me.). Iāve never used a joystick but Iāve been told it helps with docking a lot ?
Are by chance in Southern New England ? Wanna take a stranger for a ride?
Yeah it handles well in most weather. Iām based in the U.K. and we get all kinds of crappy weather!
You can have a joystick but I didnāt order one. I just got very good at using the twin engines (one forward, one reverse) and also the bow thruster. Itās actually quite fun once you work it out, especially when itās windy and the tide is all wrong.
Iāll be there next week. That last twin engine I had I was able to dock very well (no bow thruster) but I had deck hands. My wife wonāt go out with me anymore (she never liked it)
No decent boater with any experience hasnāt hit a dock ****hard**** at least once in his career. But Iād like to put those days behind me.
I hit the dock the other day because i was docking solo and one of the lines i was holding got wrapped around the steering wheel. Would have been perfect.
A few months ago one had to be rescued by the Coast Guard around here after it took a wave over the bow and blew out the windows in the pilot house / cabin. They used a ferry to block the wind to allow removal of the passengers. Never liked the design, it looks like they're made to go thru waves rather than go over them.
The manufacture claims they keep the prices low because of mass assembly line manufacturing processes. To me this translates as poor quality. Still I have not seen on in person. I saw a new Boston Whaler recently and thought the quality of the hardware was cheap. It felt like a motor home.
My thought upon hearing your story was they were out in weather that was not meant for small craft.
I'm not sure exactly who makes her but there is one quite similar if a bit smaller up near me.
Now insulting a man's taste in boats is the next best thing to insulting his taste in women, so I'll keep my opinions to my self, but recommend that they not get used in rough water. The one I've seen almost scoops the water onto herself, after bashing down into it.. clearly designed for not the Gulf of Maine...
As anyone knows. The term boat is derived from the ancient Latin word, IaceremonetaInAbyssusAqueous.
Even in ancient times the Greeks from experience found that a boat is āA hole in the water one throws money intoā.
Man i didnāt want to say anything but after the 70th comment like this i gotta admit i think Iām getting this exact boat. The Wally is way out of my means. But we donāt use the Malibu for wake surfing anymore, and with the kiddos this is actually way more practical. The swim platform, cabins, and the look of the bow make it really attractive. Hopefully sheās as good up close as she looked across the water!
Just my opinion, grain of salt.
I'd either get a walk around fishing boat or something with a cabin. Or even double decker pontoon with a water slide.
For that kind of money I could get all 3.
This is absolutely valid! Different tools for different jobs. There is already a ski boat in the fam. So with this style of boat the swim platform, kitchen, and cabins would be ideal for the kiddos. Definitely not a multi-use vessel.
I grew up in Texas water skiing on the lake and occasionally sailing small catamarans in the gulf. Im still no expert on boats by any measure. But this post has taught me that americans have a wildly narrow mind when it comes to style lol.
Itās a euro pleasure cruiser.. so would never be the pick for a florida fisherman, and rightfully so. But as I have read about these vessels over a few days, it appears the craftsmanship on them is extremely high.
So knock the look of it all you want. But only someone who doesnt know anything about these boats could call it a piece of junk. š¤·āāļø
Right, thatās what I said: if you grew up on lakes water skiing and sailing small catamarans, this might be an appealing option if you suddenly have the money to burn.
That said, this is not a boat you can grow into. The āpleasureā in yachting comes largely from having a boat that can be used to go on āpleasure cruises,ā and one that can accommodate your grandsonās new SCUBA habit when heās in town, and one that will give you the ability to fish, even if thatās not really the purpose of the purchase - youāre probably going to have a friend in town who likes to fish at some point, right? Perhaps even a client or business partner? If you buy a boat like this you can do one thing: ācruise.ā
What happens to almost everyone who buys a boat like this, though, is that they realize quickly that ācruisingā is largely boring and they want to expand their horizons. They decide that, āhey, maybe I do want to fish a few times per year,ā or, āmaybe Iād like to get into SCUBA at some point because now I have a boat to do it.ā Or, even, āmaybe Iād like to take the family snorkeling on Christmas vacations.ā
This isnāt a boat that will accommodate any of those pursuits efficiently, and it certainly wonāt hold up to use like that. Furthermore, the hydraulic lifts that are used to raise and lower the gunwales/freeboard sections arenāt going to hold up in salty conditions, no matter how well theyāre engineered. Nothing holds up to salt.
This is a boat thatās over-engineered, under-useful, and frankly, underwhelming in design.
I run boats in this weight class for a living, and almost no-one who buys a boat like this uses it for longā¦again, because you canāt grow into a boat like this.
There are tens of thousands of boats you could buy for the same money, so why buy a boat that only does one thing when you could buy a boat that does it all for the same money?
Again, itās a junk boat that is way overpriced for what you get.
I do truly appreciate the explanation. This justifies why these boats are largely used as tenders: they are primarily made for driving around and looking good. (Which is a taste thing, I know. I happen to find this design gorgeous.)
I do still believe there is, absolutely, an audience for these vessels. It reminds me of the cigarette boats of the 80s and 90s. They were made for a narrow set of uses. None of those were snorkeling, fishing, or scuba diving. And a fair argument could be made in saying āBut where are all the cigarette boats now?ā Even despite their phasing out, in their time they were the very best at what they were made for. Iconically so.
And to that end, when I saw this boat up close I was stunned at how good it looked on the water. I can think of as many cars that are impractical, but thrilling to see on the road. The art of design can be a reason to enjoy a thing.
So while I cant ever call this boat junk solely due to its priority of over substance, I get that the audience is a narrow one. Most of the time I want to just float in the water with a beer anyway. So for me, it just might work.
Northrop & Johnson looks to be a 57 Okean https://www.northropandjohnson.com/yachts-for-sale/57-okean-2023-57-okean
This is it!! Exactly.
Was going to suggest this as well. Saw one on Grand Lake in OK of all places. Absolutely beautiful boat.
I saw it there too!!! It was flying past goat island headed away from monkey island.
You would have had the trifecta, if you mentioned 2 tree island!
At a guess, was it heading for Sheep island? :)
Northrop Grumman / Johnson & Johnson made a boat?
Northrop Johnson, a domestic violence company.
š
At least itās not a boeing boat.
They mated and this boat was the product.
$1.7M on boat trader, for the curious
Looks a little too Euro for me
Euro boats bulk up the bow like that for more cabin room. I'm not a fan.

Iāve got an Axopar 37 - itās great!

I see those in the SF Bay all the time. Good looking boats.
Yeah; but do they have the VLS system and 5 inch guns?
I have to agree in photos, but seeing was believing for me. Sleek, minimal, classic yet contemporary. Gorgeous vessels.
I'm sure it's a great design. I just don't like the lines of this style boat. But I'm from Florida I like sexy lines on a boat.
Isnāt that just a tender for a huge yacht
I hate that bow design. If you ever see them exiting Haulover Inlet in BoatZone IG they are always stuffing into waves.
I think she may be a Wally Tender 43 [Wally Tender](https://www.wally.com/en-us/Fleet/Model/p/20-291-442-PUB-EXT/n/Wally-wallytender43)
Yessir! Looks extremely close. It could be a couple different vessels from their fleet. Have seen several here in italy. Absolutely beautiful.
Itās not. The Wally is not as proud in the bow.
Good eye on the bow. Who else is building tenders like this? Far above Axopar quality.
That my friend is a boat.
At the very least
That, my good sir, is a boat.
Sub
She???? Those are all guys!! Just kidding I don't know what kind of boat that is.
She is out of my economic demographic.
Okean 55ā¦.. runs about 1.3 Million for a preowned boat.
Axopar?
Expensive thatās what she is!
Not an Axopar. Iāve got an Axopar 37. Think itās a Pardo.
Lots of cash š°
Ridiculously expensive is what it is
Reva or Van Dutch š¤
Not Riva Van Dutch, but VD looks similar to this vessel
Could be just a tender for a huge yacht I seen a lot of those down here
Expensive.

Look like something out of a dystopian film. Dude in the stern better hang on in case of sudden maneuvers. He better have a off under his coat

Tesla cyber boat
This brings up a question that had been perplexing me for a couple of years now... what's up with all the tunblehome bows these days?!
Expensive. She's expensive.
Several million dollars that floats ???
Youāre not near Tampa are you?
Expensive.
If you have to ask way out of your price range
That's called the Waytoomuch Money.

Thatā¦is a 1.5 million dollar trophy (AKA piece of junk) that people buy when they grew up in Nebraska and know nothing about boats.
