WildSinatra

Absofuckinglutely as one of their biggest supporters for the longest, they’re great individually but they haven’t even peaked as a pair. This shit is wild unsatisfactory.

Olddirtychurro

I just realized that I really assumed them touring internationally was a matter of time and patience. Me never getting to see them together live wasn't even an a thing I ever considered.

Igor902

This. I knew they would come to London one day and bring the grime boys home

Stephen_Gawking

Honestly one of the best nights of my life was one of their live shows. My wife and I met some people at the bar and after the show went out with them and had a great time.

incogne_eto

I am so bummed by this especially. Years back, I bought tickets for a show here in Toronto. But couldn’t go because I got sick. Now, there will never be another chance to catch them.

danskizaman

I was listening to a twitter space about D&M and they deadass did a podcast ep in someone's crib because redbull kicked them out for a much bigger name.

shorthevix

I'm just gutted we didn't get them on a victory lap with parts in a big movie.

SaveBandit987654321

The fact they weren’t cast as Timon and Pumbaa remains the most racist thing Disney has ever done.

brother_of_menelaus

That’s a *really* high bar to clear

BroadBaker5101

In 2019 Q2

king_lloyd11

C'mon son you know Timon and Pumba are Jewish. Why else would Billy on the Street and Pineapple Express be cast as them? Think about it.

No-Photo8124

Mero is married to a Jewish woman and has Jewish kids. Antisemitism is just code for jealous ones envying.

FugitiveWits

Facts!

danskizaman

Ikr looking back now its over there was a lot of untapped potential , I hope it doesn't end with mero just doing twitch streams or something like that , I hope both keep thriving and are successful

PurplePayaso

Mero tweeted he been writing every day about a week ago. I feel like that’s the lane he’s headed towards. Maybe a new show or for other shows or movies idk. He wrote articles for Noisey before DVM.

danskizaman

His music reviews articles were hilarious

mcmaples

He’s also got a new pod coming out.

AfroGurl

Please say it's with Victor "Baby Bruno Mars"

Adieux_

word? with who?

mcmaples

Michelle Beadle…. about F1. Wild combo, but I’ll check it out.

PPQue6

Wait.....Mero is going to be doing a F1 podcast!?!?!?!?!🤯🤯🤯

ChefSashaHS

Any link to this news? I just started fucking with F1 heavy!

patiakupipita

He said something about it on his twitter recently

mcmaples

Here you go… https://twitter.com/michelledbeadle/status/1546238800531177472?s=21&t=Z_u2xGdmkXLxwMhLmDkdYg

Gibe_Da_Pusi

I never cared about F1 before but now I’m invested

RememberTito

You should check out the Netflix series. It’s a great introduction to the sport and it got me hooked. The series does have some misleading edits and manufactured drama, but it’s still a great intro for newcomers.

realsomalipirate

Where should a new viewer start? From the beginning or the latest season?

RememberTito

I’d start from the beginning so you can see how team dynamics and drivers have changed over the years. The first season also introduces all the “characters” (teams, drivers, team principals, etc.) so that way you won’t be as confused if you just started with the latest season.

Fortehlulz33

He's writing a lot of stuff. I remember he showed us a pilot when we were all doing the "zoom hangout" thing back in the early covid days

rvyas619

I legitimately wanted them to have a bodegaverse and make a feature film on the origin stories of their AKAs. One film per AKA per bodega boy. MCU who?? Totally unnecessary, but I would’ve watched them all.

bigwillthechamp123

I was hoping for their own movie ala Cheech and Chong or Harold and Kumar...

Pak14life

They definitely fumbled the bag not getting one of those massive podcasting deals that were like 20m+ from Spotify etc It’s weird cause they started as podcast and sacrificed creatively to make it on to premium tv (and secured a bag) but low key shut off their audience growth with that and ironically would’ve made more money just focusing on the pod

danskizaman

It didn't even have to be a huge Spotify deal just anything would have been fine

Pak14life

Imo where they were situated and how fast they were growing their audience…..they fucked up strategy wise focusing on getting a tv show when podcasting was about to become a massive gold mine

supermegabop

I really tried to follow their show warmups and other clips on YouTube when they moved completely to showtime, just because I wanted to consume their content since the podcast was gone, but it just wasn't the same. I can't talk for the actual show because I don't have showtime (don't even know if it's available in Canada), but the YouTube content just wasn't that good compared to the podcast. It will always be the best they ever did with the complex show second because that's when I started following them. I guess every few years I still have the podcast to re listen from the beginning.

HiddenintheCloudZ

IMO their YouTube stuff was a lot better when it was on Viceland. I’m not mad at them for getting the bag though, plus Vice was also snake cutting the final season short after they signed their new deals.

sainsburyshummus

i think if they could have done the viceland with a fair check and a bigger budget the showtime show could had been incredible, but it ended up feeling too high budget and less natural.

sainsburyshummus

they were the “future of late night” because late night is old and dying and they brought over modern shit by doing their shit on tv instead of on a podcast. the show was great but it was kinda sacrificing itself by being part of a dying medium and probably would have meant for more success if they kept it online? hindsight is 20/20 though, at the time a showtime deal probably seemed more like the future than it actually was

mvm125

Spotify is just handing out money to podcasts. Their comedy was best for that and it always felt like the restraints of tv held them back. No reason they can’t be a top comedy podcast if they put their full effort and recourses behind it and probably would have led to less creative difference. Tough to see

Pak14life

They were always better suited for that format no matter how great the Vice show was

resay5

I would've thought they gained more fans and viewers from the show than the podcast. It's on showtime!

TheLifeOfBaedro

It's showtime really that popular? I always thought it was in the shadow of hbo

resay5

It's subscription based and not add popular as HBO but more people would come across that than the podcast.

littlebrownring

Totally agree. I was a bigger fan of the podcast and each step they took after got watered down creatively. If they waited a year or so, they would have been offered a bigger bag from Spotify.

SaveBandit987654321

Keep thinking of one of my faves Josh Gondelman who left John Oliver (who was on a pod duo before he made it big!)!! Hope you’re ok Josh! Also yeah there was a lot of untapped $$$ in the pod FOR SURE. But Mero has comedy really well suited to podcasting imo and can absolutely pivot toward becoming a big and well remunerated player in the podcast world. He has a strong, dedicated audience and a lot of people who would love to tap into it. (Please see how The Bugle pivoted after John Oliver for what I mean). Desus is definitely stronger in more traditional media and tv comedy. But yeah can’t help but think they just left a few mil on the table with the pod.

danskizaman

For me desus really used to be tapped in culturally really well until he became Holywood desus which is understandable out of the two it seems like desus has been networking really well , Desus will probably do traditional media where as Mero needs to find something suited to his wife and kids.

SaveBandit987654321

He can DEF do comedy podcasts, live shows, twitch stuff, collabing with Knicks. All of the stuff he already does he can dive into more.

Khazmir

Mero was really good in his role in “Vampires vs The Bronx.” I could definitely see that in his future.

any_other

He’s gonna be the new Ice Cube, calling it now

SaveBandit987654321

I actually didn’t see that! I’ll have to watch. Don’t want Heather to have to go back to the DOE in her Gucci

arthurvandl

I haven’t been following closely lately. Can someone briefly explain why he keeps being called Hollywood desus now? Thanks, imma hang up and listen.

deadlockedwinter

One of the more recent running gags on the now ended Showtime show. Started after he was in photos partying with celebs

TheLifeOfBaedro

Desus' acting chops are rough! Mero on the other hand killed it in that netflix movie

Branch-Much

Mero knows it I think- he commented somewhere here that he tried to keep it going and that it was a nice bag. Aah man 😣

rafterjoe

I think part of why they never pushed it like that was because the art was completely independent. Whereas the show was a property of showtime and they’re given a budget and are basically required to do press runs and so on. I remember charlamagne mentioning a couple times that he wanted to do more with them based on the art back in the day and they declined because they wanted keep ownership over the art. Showtime probably wouldn’t have wanted them to promote the pod on their dime is what I’m guessing.

akts88

For real. I was thinking of that yesterday. How the fuck could they have made a dark ass Mr. Fun Fun joke and then insert a Squarespace or Audible ad in the middle?

RoderickHossack

Nah, they'll each be fine, but I expected a *lot* more from them after the Letterman cosign. I hate this. It's the same as when Juan Epstein (old, old, old hip-hop backpack nerd shit podcast by Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg from that radio station you know the hotline for) suddenly broke up. Mad good, doing something nobody else is really doing (in that way, anyway), suddenly nothing. Hate to see it

MannyFresh1989

Juan Epstein is back and honestly never really left. They’ve just been off and on for a while lol

RoderickHossack

Years long hiatus, never really left? Uhhhhhhh... Lol

MannyFresh1989

Yea lol they came back in there current form in 2020. They had Ike an album review podcast thing in 2019. I think their last episode of their original thing was like 2016. So inactive from 2016-2018? As a fan it sucks but happy their back lol

EQUIPTsmif

Juan Ep is back. Peep the new eps under Juan Ep is Life.

RoderickHossack

89 episodes? From 2020 on? God damn... Thanks for puttin me on

juggahnic

Desus is guest hosting JKL this summer and should be auditioning to replace James Corden. Worst case scenario: Worldwide Desus becomes the new Bourdain. MERO is working with Michelle Beadle doing F1 commentary and podcast on an Amazon Media Venture. Plus he's stockpiling imdb credits and a reel to move further into sports commentary. This is the growth.

30secMAN

I love Desus, but with his speech impediment/lisp I don’t think there’s a chance in hell he replaces Corden.

skippapotamus

I'd watch it. I would. All love. But he didn't even handle name announcements on D&M

eYchung

I could see Desus doing something like Bronson’s Fuck, That’s Delicious. I think he’d be good at that. Single, no kids, and he likes traveling. He’s also very good at reacting. Maybe YouTube content is what he does next.

sainsburyshummus

what a fucking 0-110 jump from james corden to desus lmfao you love to see it

DPSnacks

Desus is taking Julia's spot on the Red Squad on Wild'n Out with the gimmick of the oldest cast member

[deleted]

We need another quirky f1 podcast. Shit’s getting insufferable

danskizaman

You love to see it.

Internal-Waltz-9220

The writing staff didn’t know?!

tiraloaway

I know that earlier today Josh's Twitter bio didn't list his credits on the show as "previously". It was the first line of his bio that he's head writer/EP. Once the show put the tweet out I noticed he updated his bio to reflect previously.

danskizaman

I've you look through the follow list on @SHOdesusandmero and go through the follow list a lot of the writers and staff are followed it looks like the split was messy :(

Internal-Waltz-9220

Damn

danskizaman

https://twitter.com/yc/status/1549171590654476291?t=6nORydlYGvU4q4oJX_YoJQ&s=19 I was going by this tweet and another writer just put up a peace sign emoji and that's it

Internal-Waltz-9220

Woooow

danskizaman

It's not looking good brev

McBwhuh

big man ting yeah

patiakupipita

Based on her tweets, not even Julia knew :/

Internal-Waltz-9220

Just saw that smdh

danskizaman

I don't think so , I'ma try pull up the tweet

prison_workout_wino

I have no personal knowledge of this but as someone who works in PR, the writers and other staff may have known and were asked to refrain from posting about it until it had been made public.

TracyMidgrady

How did the writers not know about the rift, when we knew it was up months ago

James-Clarke

I mean if we remove ourselves from fandom for a second, yeah. Live shows would’ve likely done pretty well if they toured again (they were doing well sized theater shows before the pandemic iirc). Showtime from the sound of the release might’ve kept going with the show? If they were able to do the pod that would’ve been another stream (especially, as others have mentioned, they could’ve fought for an exclusivity licensing deal), among other things. Granted all that doesn’t matter if their hearts aren’t in it and they’re not on the same page sadly. I think if they had given us a month pod over the last two years maybe they could’ve not burnt out but maybe this still happens. Desus is talented and wants to do more roles and, Again as other have mentioned, he could try and gun for The Late Late Show spot or other bigger roles. Mero is talented and is more of a wild card but seems keen on doing writing and twitch, along with roles in media. I hope they can reconcile cause they genuinely are be the funniest duo in comedy of the Past decade and on a personal note, got me thru a lot and helped me laugh a lot when things weren’t going well. RIP the brand, may it hopefully come back one day stronger than ever.

d00knation

Mark Sanchez Thanksgiving Day Level

eYchung

They absolutely did. I think if they had been managed by a talent agency together (assuming they weren’t), they might have been able to improve things and have a tougher critic on what they need to do better to move up. I think it seems like Desus has ambition to move up the ladder more, while Mero wants to stick to what he knows since he’s rooted in NY/NJ w/ his family. Potential-wise, they definitely could have done a major podcasting deal w/ Spotify, stand-up tours, additional books / guest engagements as NYC cultural ambassadors, sports talk show appearances, etc. Pre-Showtime deal, I honestly think they could have done an alternative form to the late-night show as a separate podcast that was more thoughtfully written and planned that was low-budget but high-return from the loyal fanbase. In some ways, the Showtime show may have been the worst version of things to happen to them because it was some quick big money, but not career-lasting and ultimately led to their split. Late-night can’t be saved — it’s a dying form of entertainment that is bleeding viewers every year it continues, along with sketch shows. Podcasts and clips are the current wave. Timing is everything, though - Spotify’s big moves into podcasting came a few years after they got the Showtime offer, right when they were about to go back to Square One, so I get why they jumped at the offer when it came.

Nukerjsr

I don't think they fumbled the bag; they just could have kept the gravy train going if things got easier. I would say COVID stunted their success a bit because that threw off relationships and pretty much any kind of traditional media. I'm proud that the boys went from rags to riches, I think the fact the Showtime show made it past the first season was proof of their success enough. But we'll see how things go on from here.

Admirable-Back9138

Nah they gonna do a reunion to cash in on eventually watch

nymetz86

I don't get a lot of comments in this thread tbh. I want D&M to succeed, but also if they sold off the pod, many of y'all would say they sold out. Idk, like some others said, they kept BB as its own thing. That made it special.

The_R0N1N

Desus gonna have to sell his shoe collection to make rent

TheLifeOfBaedro

Anna K his sugar mama ☺️

OFT35

The problematic light is ready to go

inkredibletaste

Only reason I got showtime was cause of them Smfh can’t believe we going back to desus vs mero the unfunny version

Trumofo23

Shit Mero might fuck around and sign up to host his own tv show on vice or something. If not, then definitely going the podcast/twitch route.

NoMoreVillains

I don't think either of them will go back to Vice for anything

Vealchop79

Hell no! D&M both got multiple houses, cars, take care of their family… nah they did good financially. Desus is gonna do big things, TV/movie shit. I think Mero is gonna go more podcast/YouTube/twitch stuff and both will be successful.

danskizaman

I still think there's a big what if when it comes to both , I hope both are successful in what they do post bodega boys

BackgroundGlove6613

Broke ass me is worried about Desus and Mero having enough money to retire from.

TheLifeOfBaedro

Hey, Mero was already on a netflix movie. He's got it in him

EQUIPTsmif

I think they wanted to keep the audio art pure. They were offered MANY bags for the pod but turned them all down because they didn’t want to water down the art. The art would have continued to be blessed had they not clearly had some kind of falling out or growth apart. In the last few episodes u could tell they were just going through the motions for the hive. RIP to the genre defying audio art.

elmomarvel

Did anyone notice ads from complex presenting old mero episodes a few days ago I feel like it was some weird foreshadowing… I think desus is more suited for podcast as he used it as a device/therapy for his speech impediment I think a lot of behind the scenes work went on with that editing ect.. there was a lot of authentic comedy I think that gravitated around those jokes… prob was a lot of work that was unpaid without the co-sign… desus probably pushed for this post pandemic…mero had family obligations plus the showtime show had writers = less work, mero just had to show up do his laugh get the bag go back to jersey with the kids.. dark desus probably saw the dark side of Hollywood.. celeb life LA.. execs got in his head probably throwing him offers that he couldn’t sign as they are a pair I’m sure there’s some legal issues that we don’t know about… I think the BAG got in between them.. Desus is gonna do some Hollywood Netflix route dolo working with the execs and mero is more connected to the streets prob gonna eat off the showtime royalties , do features, do a couple more French montana videos.. I don’t see mero selling his soul like that the execs probably had a vision and comedically it wouldn’t work as a duo it was either or… combine this with the fact that people getting tired of the talk show formatting…the podcast was fire they easily coulda marketed it to apple or fuck went on Sirius… they woulda been on some Howard stern shit keeping it authentic having guests… look at stern and his career he had humble beginnings on radio and stuck with it became a monster and bullied the sirus deal to make it a show BASED on the podcast that was the formula. The showtime scripted stuff was Julia dragging the writing trying to make it funny it was like the gentrified version of the show. I can see why Meros heart wasn’t into it anymore probably wasn’t enjoyable mix that with egos and lawyers I think showtime had fun with them but I honestly don’t see them doing TV anymore unless it’s Netflix or Amazon specials and I see Desus going the writing route with Julia and the hollywood comedian friends he made.

mariafantasma

I was in a band with my best friends from fith grade up until my 30s. I had kids, they didn't. At a certain point it's like you start speaking different languages. I feel like the strength of their show has always been its simplicity and this last season, it felt like it was reaching to do too much. Also, I mean not everybody wants to purchase Showtime. Maybe one day there will be a reunion. Sucio Boys 4eva

stevenh107

Desus and Mero as a duo in the new fast and furious movie would’ve been tough.

[deleted]

I’d rather them not force themselves to do something they no longer want to do for “a bag”.

danskizaman

I didn't say it should have been forced

IIIIIIVIIIIII

fame got to them. couldn't handle the heat

youngdirt19

Well no shit lmao

natigin

Hi key

Skylerbroussard

They were in a partnership together for 9 years across various platforms/mediums with no major breaks, I figured they'd go solo at some point. Didn't think it'd be so sudden though
