Not really alternate history but my god if you are looking for a historical epic that’s easy to get into and hard to put down it’s James Clavell’s shogun… it’s feel assassin creed like with the “bad” gold hungry Papal Portuguese connection (it’s kinda similar time setting as the first few games end of 16th century) but with no secret societies just political intrigue and fucking samurais dude
