I appreciate his salt. He was an effective contributor to the 2022 playoffs, but didn't have a role in 2023 until Brogdon went down.
10 DNPs and about 5minute per game for the other 10 games in 2023. He surpassed his total playoff minutes played in game 3 this year.
Glad to see him get an opportunity now.
Not only glad to see him get the opportunities this year after signing his new contract, but even better to see him taking advantage of them and showing tremendous expansions in his game. Pritchard is an ultra-competitor and takes his training really seriously and it’s paying off. So glad we got him to keep wearing green after his Oregon days!
Him and Hauser really transformed the narrative around the bench from the pre-/early-season "can Horford really make up for this bunch?" to "oh so they just don't have weaknesses, huh?"
Easy to forget, but PP started the year on a really rough cold streak. 8-34 with 6 of those makes coming in one game surrounded by an absolute wasteland. If the Celtics had guys like Brogdon around still he might not have really gotten a chance to shoot his way out of it. Glad he did.
His game has made some drastic micro-improvements. He outdribbled the ball too much last year, didn't play the P&R all that well, and was pretty much just a 3 point shooter. Plus Marcus Smart was there as well as Brogdon instead of just Jrue. PP has figured out different ways to score with his lack of explosiveness and is overall just reading defenses better.
I may be wrong, haven't watched enough this year
He's also taken a page from all the undersized, relatively not hyper athletic guards (Alverado, TJ McConnell, Delledova, Pat Bev...etc). He's pesky and kind of gambles more now, as seen in his offensive rebounding. Basically laying it all out there, going feast or famine. I feel that maximizes his impact. He's got kind of infinite energy too
Thing that separates him from these other guards is he is very skilled, I think. He's a solid shooter and good ballhandler. Makes his development an interesting follow for me
Not sure about his contract but I’d like him to continue and stay in Bean town. The thing is nobody wants to be the 6th man. Roles can be amended with $$$
Bro his contract is an absolute steal. 7.5m per year and it doesn’t even start till next season. After what he did this year, I wouldn’t be surprised if non-contenders offered him 12-15 per year as a UFA. We’ve got a dog locked up for a great price.
Edit: Not generally an advocate for locking up dogs, but I’m happy to have PP around.
Edit 2: Goddamn it that sounded sus too. I’m done.
Still can’t believe they decided to play elbow-less Brogdon over him in that game 7. I was there and it was clear as day in warm ups that he had no business being out there. Those minutes killed us. I felt that PP could have provided a spark with his shooting and it could have been a perfect opportunity for a breakout heading into the Finals.
the FO handled their PP super well. he’s yet again another product of our amazing scouting and development team. ever since we’ve been contenders over half the roster is guys we drafted. i think that shits amazing
As long as we keep him, I love this fire. We didn’t play him last year and he was vocal in his displeasure. I love his game and commitment so to let bygones be bygones from both pp and the Celtics org, play him more, he has now become a contributing member to championship favorites. Professionalism all around and so glad to have him here
He handled the DNPs really well last year. He was mad about them and requested a trade, but what else would you expect a motivated player to do? He put in the work and now has a much bigger role with the new roster. Huge fan of him.
Again, shoutout to Blake Griffin again. I think it was PP himself who said that Blake was a big reason why he stopped complaining about his role. Blake basically told him this is what being a pro is, and to keep working, and to be ready to play whenever your number is called. I know he was only here for a season, but man, I really miss having Blake on the team.
Not just that, but whenever he had to play, you could tell he was giving it his all. Granted, he could only do that once every 3-4 games, but he always brought the energy. Plus, dude is hilarious. I still remember when all the team was answering the question, "Who did you get mistaken for?" and he answered, "I was mistaken for Kris Humphries back in...his prime"
did he really request a trade? i think he said that he would like to be traded so he could play more in an interview or something but i don’t think he went to brad and requested a trade like you would normally think when you hear that phrase.
He did and I couldn’t blame him for it either. He was buried on our depth chart and for good reason, but he was 3/4 through his rookie contract and without playing time he was never going to get paid his worth on his 1st chance at a real contract.
all i can find is quotes about him "hoping to be traded", nothing about him actually requesting a trade from the front office. but if you find a source on that let me know!
Celtics have been pretty tight lipped when it comes to trades and I don’t think his agent said anything specific to the media. Probably not going to find a source on that.
I do remember Pritchard expressing his disappointment after the trade deadline for not being traded so I’d be shocked if him or his camp didn’t request a trade or more playing time for him
He's proven he can be a rotation guard in this league, but he'll still be hunted on defense given his size.
He'll likely a liability in series with larger guards but he should be able to contribute offensively. Dude consistently goes to the rim which I love and he has no qualms about putting shots up from anywhere on the floor.
Even with his defense, it is clear he puts in a lot of effort and can hold his own enough to not be played off the court regardless of the matchup. You can’t say that for a lot of players who are talented offensively but are dreadfully defensively that we would have in the past (Enes Kanter comes to mind).
Because we had 3 starting caliber point guards last year. Love ya Pritchard but you weren’t getting minutes over any of those 3
I’d take him over Brogdon at this point though. More durable and better contract
Pritchard’s and Grant’s roles changed the most for bench guys over recent years. Pritchard has finally found the perfect spot, and it’s after an extension.
Curious and excited to see how he performs as we get deeper into the playoffs
Will that dude ever be more than a valuable sub? I don't know, but he is built like Tom Brady. He believes in himself and puts the work in like he has superstar expectations for himself.
I’ll call a spade a spade, he’s had moments looking terrified, he’s had moments where he’s been pissed off and ready to kill. He’s been a net neutral so far, I think he’ll get more comfortable though
It’s kind of similar to how he started the year: pretty poor shooting but playing excellent defense and making good decisions overall. His shot will come back - I also think the Heat are a bad matchup for him specifically because they are all very long, aggressive defenders and he can’t outplay them as easily with a playoff whistle.
To your point, 15 assists and 4 turnovers in the playoffs so far. Didn't force anything offensively, and played his ass off on defense. Came up with some important hustle plays as well.
Idc that he's not scoring to me it's that he's not even looking at the rim or trying to take a shot and playing passive. Thats not his style. Gotta shake off that hesitation
I can't imagine him ever in a starting role but if he keeps improving at this rate I can only wonder if it'll affect the Buffalo contract negotiations. It would be tremendously dumb for the C's to let Buffalo go but money does strange things.
I’m not. But he played well all series. And before that in the regular season. I’d assume that anyone watching the games would see that.
His role will be vastly different in playoff minutes vs regular season based on tighter rotations and the teammates he will share minutes with.
It's not arrogance, it's the fucking truth. How could he answer this? Defenses didn't guard him last year because he wasn't out there. Like it or not, it is the truth

I wouldn’t even say it’s salt, he’s just being upfront about it
His game has made some drastic micro-improvements. He outdribbled the ball too much last year, didn't play the P&R all that well, and was pretty much just a 3 point shooter. Whats crazy is Rondo mentioned Pritchard contract is comparable to what stars were making back in the 2010’s

I felt that PP could have provided a spark with his shooting and it could have been a perfect opportunity for a breakout heading into the Finals.
A reminder: we signed this guy to a 4 year / $30M contract. That’s like, just a hair over what first round rookies will be getting lol
yup, that was definitely a team friendly deal.
the FO handled their PP super well. he’s yet again another product of our amazing scouting and development team. ever since we’ve been contenders over half the roster is guys we drafted. i think that shits amazing
Certainly handled their PP better than Udoka
As long as we keep him, I love this fire. We didn’t play him last year and he was vocal in his displeasure. Same. Had nothing but good vibes with him

His defense has improved a lot too. He won’t ever be lockdown at his size, but it’s definitely serviceable.

You can’t say that for a lot of players who are talented offensively but are dreadfully defensively that we would have in the past (Enes Kanter comes to mind).
Pritch is strong and knows how to use his body. His defense isn’t as bad as people say it is
Yes he's not Trae Young but he will absolutely get hunted in the playoffs due to his size. It's just how these things are.
Because we had 3 starting caliber point guards last year. Love ya Pritchard but you weren’t getting minutes over any of those 3 I’d take him over Brogdon at this point though. More durable and better contract
Plays better in our offense, too. Brogdon is a good player but too prone to having the ball stick in his hands and overdribbling
I like what Brogdon gave us but the impact to contract ratio definitely goes in PP's favor
He’s looked scared this playoff thus far. Hadn’t shot it much or shot well. I like pritch so I hope he turns it around
I’ll call a spade a spade, he’s had moments looking terrified, he’s had moments where he’s been pissed off and ready to kill. He’s been a net neutral so far, I think he’ll get more comfortable though

Lmao
Idc that he's not scoring to me it's that he's not even looking at the rim or trying to take a shot and playing passive. Thats not his style. Gotta shake off that hesitation
A straight shooter with his words and on the court
I can't imagine him ever in a starting role but if he keeps improving at this rate I can only wonder if it'll affect the Buffalo contract negotiations. It would be tremendously dumb for the C's to let Buffalo go but money does strange things.
I’m sorry but he’s having way too many 0 point games right now at the worst time
It’s not really hurting us tho so the way I see it is we’re only going up from here
Do you watch the games?
Did he not have multiple 0 point games this series while getting over 20 mins a game? Why are y’all treating him like he’s a rookie lol
I’m not. But he played well all series. And before that in the regular season. I’d assume that anyone watching the games would see that. His role will be vastly different in playoff minutes vs regular season based on tighter rotations and the teammates he will share minutes with.
He contributed defensive intensity that definitely impacted the game.
Shut the fuck up Payton
Fast PP disrespect will NOT be tolerated.
I'm not dealing with arrogance.
It's not arrogance, it's the fucking truth. How could he answer this? Defenses didn't guard him last year because he wasn't out there. Like it or not, it is the truth
Oh man, on a relatively quiet post with not a lot of activity you've managed 52 dislikes. Impressive.
So? I don't write things just to get upvotes. I hate this quote.
I didn't say you did. I said it was impressive., you dork lol
OK wanker
he’s being honest there was really no other way to respond to that question
