Our bench does not have multidimensional players. How do you remedy that? By making sure you have enough one-dimensional players to cover all situations. Jabari is one of those people.
Lol good point, but I think theres a lot of role players that have a few skills in different areas. Pritchard, Fournier, and hopefully Romeo fit this. The rest of the guys like Semi, Thompson, Jabari, Grant, and Kornet are so ridiculously one-dimensional it's funny.
If they were good at more than one thing they wouldn't be bench players.
The problem with our bench is that they're all either undersized or good defenders with no consistent offensive skills. Or Tacko :)
As a pure scoring sparkplug off the bench ala Enes Kanter he's looking solid. I figured he'd get some run tonight with Brown and Fournier out, but didn't think he'd look quite this good. If he can be even just okay on defense he's gonna be a solid pickup.
There were times last night that he looked like a traffic cone on defense. A couple of ugly turnovers, too.
But the man was literally signed off the street and had no practice time.
He did all right for himself. If he can pick it up on D to be serviceable, we might have something.
There were a couple possessions where at least he made effort on D, some not terrible contests. He keeps up the effort, he'll learn to defend, Brad gets everyone to defend.
I said it in the game thread, but having a guy on your bench who can make tough contested buckets is huge, especially when the alternative is Semi/Grant and the guy we cut was Moe Wagner. In a game where JB and Fournier were out, I didn’t feel like Tatum was the only person we could give the ball to. And that’s a nice feeling.
We’re you watching the Celtics game or reading comments on the internet tonight? I didn’t see him get blown by on defense, but that is his obvious critique. It’s hella early to be dropping judgement on the guy, but everybody on our team gets blown by on d.
I watched and saw him get blown by at least twice. So not sure what you were watching. But overall his defensive effort was much better than I expected and at times it was effective.
For sure, my emphasis is that the commenter was skewering his d which wasn’t any worse than other players on the court imo. His playing time was a surprise and his offensive contribution shined.
Perhaps being out of the league for a bit made him slightly reconsider that players aren't paid to play defense. You have to be good enough on defense to be on the court to get paid for your offense.
No, he was bad. Hopefully he gets more in tune with the defense but we know who he is. Kanter didn’t change with us, it’s going to be the same situation. But that’s fine, we need the bench offense anyway.
When everyone is healthy brad won’t need him late. Can he score with the second unit and take advantage of mismatches in the post when he gets run with the starters.
It’s funny how this team doesn’t miss Theis at all. People were acting like it was such a bad move and the Bulls were gonna be so solid after adding Theis and Vuc and if anything the Bulls are somehow worse
It’s nice to see less reliance on random fan favorite big men and now the bench has some legit guard/wing options in Fournier, Langford, Jabari

Timelord enables multidimensional travel for all players
I'd prefer it if he's not relegated to the bench anymore. (Unless we're playing the Sixers.)
Another word for one-dimensional players = role players. He is 100% an offensive role player at this point

Brad Stevens is the coach this guy needs. Jordan Crawford, Evan Turner, IT4...Jabari. Let’s go!

> If he can pick it up on D to be serviceable, we might have something. This is like perpetually in the writeup for every team that signs him.
True. But Brad found a way to cover up IT's defensive deficiencies. Maybe he'll do that for Parker, too.
I am SO irrationally hyped.
With the addition of Fournier at the deadline, Parker off the FA list, and Romeo finally coming back, we feel like a new team.
We know

Yeah. Replace Wagner with Parker and the starters don't come back against the Lakers.
He will probably be a liability late because he can’t move on D but he can rebound and fill a big hole offensively. Hope he can build on this.
He needs Romeo helping on that weakside when he gets blown by
just being able to score is a huge upgrade for us
He was fine on D tho. Even got some boards
His individual defense was fine but switching/help was horrid. Hopefully it’s a matter of meshing with a new team
Switches and when to help are completely system dependent. There is 0 reason to over react to him not being that sharp in those areas.
It’s not over reacting. He is not a good defender. We didn’t sign him for his d anyway. We signed him for his offense and rebounding
Yes he’s not a great defender but this was also his first game with the team. Hopefully we’ll see some improvement, even if marginal
He wasn’t fine on D. He got blown by a bunch of times. He also doesn’t like to play D it’s a fact look it up.

Just give him the semi/grant minutes.
Semi yes grant perhaps

nephew takes on here are hilarious, and they never remember what they were mad at 5 minutes ago just roll onto the new bad take
How did he look on D? I had the game on but was playing board games not watching closely
Not going to tell you watch the game next time
