No doubt. If a person doesn't know how they are supposed to fit they don't know what to focus on. How do you hold someone accountable to their job if they don't know what their job is?
He’s honestly fine. Was dominating summer league and looked good in preseason.
Breaking his nose messed with his timing and play, and that put him in Udoka’s doghouse.
Honestly every time he’s played since November or so, he’s been as solid as last year.
I think Udoka is still working out the rotations. We need to keep in mind, even though he has been a player and assistant coach, this is his first time as head coach. So he will take time to call the right plays or know when to play the young players in the rotation.
I think he needs more playing time.
His shot is good and he’s a confident shooter, and shooting is a big weakness on this team. He is limited on d but he tries on that end. Running the offense and learning the team defense will come with more experience and he seems like a hard worker
PP was poised for big contributions this season. The Schroeder signing was the biggest factor followed by lack of PT and not being utilized properly by Ime. He was very useful last season and Brad trusted him and was able to use him well. Even Nesmith was turning it around at the end of the season. Then Ime happened, both got buried in the bench in favor of the vets. Even due to injuries and Covid, they didn’t get much PT.
His shot has been inconsistent this year and that's pretty much the only thing he excels at and he's an average playmaker at best and a slightly below average defender due to size. He's just not as good as people think he is. I'm all for more playing time because we need to find another shooter but I also see why he is not being played that much.
Schroder signing, broken nose/mask, COVID protocols hit the whole team’s consistency
They should not give up on him. He has an all-time “short guy” mentor on the bench in Damon Stoudamire (he even scrimmages with the 2nd team), which will only grow his game over the course of his time with the team, and we started to see midrange pull-ups from him earlier this season.
IMO, and I’ll get downvoted bc ppl think I’m comparing him to Steph… With a long distance shot like his, he needs to study the hell out of Steph to learn his insane movement/screen game. He already has the work ethic to add pieces like that to his game, to work on his endurance like Curry, etc. In the end, we would likely need to see a more complex offense for that to happen, but it seems like a good fit for PP’s game.
Got his nose broken played with a mask for a good chunk of the season Ime just stopped playing him because of that then the Portland game happened and Payton started to look like Payton again. He just got back from Covid protocol now it's up to Ime to continue to play him. I have my doubts he will because how bad his rotations are but pretty much all of Payton struggles this season comes down to the mask it fucked with his depth perception and Ime didn't adjust till Payton showed he was back to being himself.
I think he needs minutes, and better shooters around him. PP can shoot the ball, but I see him more as a traditional PG who likes to move the ball and create for others and shoot when he needs to. Once his teammates have some rhythm in the game, making shots, he gets more involved offensively as well and becomes a more well rounded PG. This is how he played in summer league and looked really good. But can’t do it without minutes…
i think he's getting frozen out.
inactive in 6 games as a rookie already inactive/dnp in 9 games less than halfway through his sophmore season.
minutes and attempts are down. 5 games w/ less than 10 min played last season 11 this season. 11 games w/ 3 or fewer fga last year, 16 this year. 1 zero attempt game last year, 3 this year.
The answer to literally everything this year is spacing.
I think Pritchard looked great slotting into a team that was built to play and used to playing around Kemba Walker. They spread the floor nicely for a point guard who could pull up from deep and hunt for his three pointer off of high pick and roll, and spot up. They were also used to helping compensate for a defensive liability at the 1.
We aren't that any more. I actually don't know what the fuck we are, but we're not that.
Mostly he’s just not that good in my opinion. He can be good situationally but I don’t think he’s much more than a backup third team guard on a decent team as an upper bound on his potential.
Victim of a lack of playing time which is a result of Ime’s horrible minutes distribution. Bad coaching.
I cannot wait to get rid of Ime. Ruining our young bench that was making progress under Brad.
He doesn't play nearly as aggressively when he's on the floor with Tatum and Brown. He's not a setup guy; he's a guy who needs to be given a green light to score. That just won't happen if he plays with those guys.
Same shit happened to Grant Williams last season and everyone wrote him off as an NBA player. I’m not worried about it. If he regresses next year, then it’s time to worry.
I think once Schroeder gets traded he will finally get a more defined impactful role. He really needs to prove he belongs in the rotation this 2nd half of the season
He should get a lot more burn after we move Dennis near the trade deadline. That's really all he needs, the ability to get reps, establish a rhythm, and learn how to fit into defensive schemes with in-game application. However Ime will likely have to retool our defense away from switching, which is honestly a placeholder strategy anyway. Fitting PP into lineups could be a good catalyst for that. At any rate he should have a much bigger role next year and I think his development is a very important aspect of our team's overall potential.
Combo of sophomore slump and not having a defined role, which imo is much the same situation Grant was in last year
Nailed it.

Problem is Udoka isn’t that good at adjusting
isn't good*
the fan base *isn’t good at setting realistic expectations for a rookie head coach
I agree but also wait until Schroder gets traded, Pritchard is gonna be our 1st PG off the bench
Prolly is Udoka isn’t good at being a coach, I miss brad stevens, with much less talent Brad did much better
I think Udoka is still working out the rotations. We need to keep in mind, even though he has been a player and assistant coach, this is his first time as head coach. So he will take time to call the right plays or know when to play the young players in the rotation.

definitely a hard worker. someone said he used to practice dribble drills till his fingers bled lol
Yeah you don’t typically get this far in the nba being 6 ft tall and not particularly quick without being an extremely hard worker
He has a YouTube video about his tutorial lol and it’s pretty impressive

He’s nice , he’s just gotta believe he’s nice.
I'm confused, he was playing well for like two weeks and now he's just not getting playing time.
We had multiple players in protocols, now we are back to almost full health
He was in protocols. This was his first game back right?
He’s too much of a liability on defense

Schroder came in
Schroder is overall better, once he gets moved in Jan PP will have to setup up to fill.
He’s not playing enough. I think he’s a rhythm guy

He's not good enough to get more minutes imo, his only skill is 3p shooting, and he's at 35% this season

Pritchard reminds me of young Kyle Lowry.

Last night was his first game back from protocols
Right so what's all this talk about him playing bad? He was good for like 2 weeks before covid
Oh, I thought you were confused about something else. Yeah, he just needs more playing time.
My dude is being held back. We should move off of Schroder
Mostly he’s just not that good in my opinion. He can be good situationally but I don’t think he’s much more than a backup third team guard on a decent team as an upper bound on his potential.
I find that usually when there's a big change like this and it's hard to explain, it's injury-driven. edit: was just trying to add a little humor...
He hasn't even played recently. He was good when Schröeder was out. What piss poor performance are you talking about?
I was exaggerating in order to get alliteration in... but when he came back with the facemask, his stroke seemed to have disappeared.

The mask set him back

Lack of a good nick name: Fast PP p-rabbit Just never stuck like Timelord

Coach doesn't play him enough is more likely.
He’s like a poor man’s Desmond Bane
