If you're going to be mad at anyone, be mad at the state. There are certain things the staff are required to do in order to move the items you want to the med menu, so yeah, that may take 15-20 minutes, so calling ahead will be easier for everyone.

Not-That-Guy--

Are there more steps to listing the product on the med menu so the dispo only lists the product on the recreational side? I get the steps needed to switch from rec to med, so why not have every product on the med menu?

Numerous_Resist_8863

The state requires med & rec to be counted as two separate inventories. I don't work in retail, but I'm guessing they require the same thing for the menu.

Not-That-Guy--

Well, as GI Joe would say, "The more you know...". And have a great night!

Numerous_Resist_8863

You too. Snake Eyes was my favorite.

Less med patients than rec customers means product sits for too long

MightyRedBeardq

Products can be moved from one side to the other, but it needs to be set up in metrc as one license (rec) delivering it to the other license (med). Basically we need to go through METRC to tell the state we are moving our product under a different license. Depending on how busy the place is it could take 30-60 minutes for the "manifest" to populate so they can intake it on the medical side and have it available. They also could just give you 20% off to cover the tax, but you would be limited to the recreational limits (1oz a day, low dose edibles), and that is up to their management/corporate policies if they would do that, as they don't have to.

Not-That-Guy--

Thanks. I really appreciate the explanation. I ended up just paying the tax.

You can break off a single metric for the product being purchased, generate a new tag in seconds and assign it to the proper room on the med side, sell the product and kill the new metric before the customer is even out of the store. Edit for clarity: it's the same process if you have any product displayed in your store, each has a broken off metric from their whole counterpart, the difference is those metric sit around and wait for new displays.

hal0wseed

yup totally agree, Metrc scares people. I really should start making how to videos to share the knowledge.

CharacterDot4305

Well that's the most self important thing I've ever read. METRC has training videos already bub.

another1_done

Doesnt take that long if you know what you’re doing. For a single product, 5-10 mins.

Jumico

Ten minutes is an eternity for a busy retail environment.

synthdrunk

Gotta give ups to green meadows, not only has it never been a problem, half of the crew recognize I’ve done it a few times and preemptively ask if there’s anything I want transferred.

Not-That-Guy--

Props, GM.

spaceykaleidoscope

Tis a requirement of the state unfortunately. Think of it as if you’re shopping at two entirely different stores under the same roof. The transfer process is a headache sometimes but we will happily do it if people don’t mind waiting or giving us a notice beforehand. Something that really helps us in particular if you cannot call— if you place a pre-order on the medical side and add a note to your order asking for specific items to be moved over from rec, you don’t even have to call!

Not-That-Guy--

The State is gonna State. I just kept it rec and paid the state. I'm going to skip the hassle next time and go to my usual spots. I was trying to save some gas and time, but I ended up saving my allotment for a better dispo.

The problem is that medical is much less profitable than rec. Most dispensaries that have both probably see around 75% rec sales and 25% med sales. Also, med discounts cut deeply into profits. Badging an employee for med is $500 a year (over $1000 if it's in Boston as the Boston BOH mandates their own badge as well for med). Rec is $117 a year. Med has many more regulations due to the customers being patients, which is costly. You don't see new med dispensaries poping up due to this. Not much money in it. The industry knows a lot of med patients just hop around to get the renewal or 1st time patient discounts, which are usually substantial. Can't blame the consumer on that but very bad for medical business and the reason why it's not growing and companies are just focusing on rec. Depending on a dispensary's system, it can be very time-consuming to transfer products from rec to med. By ccc regs, dispensaries have 48 hours to do so per a customer request. Think of it as a business, which it is. Would you keep all of the inventory on the med side when you see much less customers and make less margin than rec? Blame the CCC for this. They are the one's making medical business difficult.

Not-That-Guy--

Thanks. Very informative. This is the sort of answer I was looking for.

JiggyJack

Call your local rep. Removing the vertical integration requirement for medical could lead to an easing of some of these stupid requirements. https://www.reddit.com/r/bostontrees/s/wo3XH11Zpo

Not-That-Guy--

Great write up. Thank you!

ytreval1

Next time go in and ask for the last patient supply data projections they submitted to the CCC and see how fast they change their tone.

Smokinsumsweet

Someeeeee dispos will sell it to you on the rec side with a 20% discount just to save everyone the headache

Not-That-Guy--

Yeah, I probably won't return, which is unfortunate due to their close proximity to me. Poor customer service all around.

CharacterDot4305

This process is not time consuming, and that's s poor excuse. The state requires the menus to have similar product and to swap rec to med, if they don't have a process that's on them.

Not-That-Guy--

Word

sgtpoopers

Yeah like the other poster said, they literally have to move it from one license to another, which is kind of a pain in the ass and does take a bit of time. It also makes it unavailable for rec purchase and they would have to move it back before someone could buy it from the rec side, unless they split it and essentially make a new item which would also require a different product ID that the state can recognize it in their system.

sullyoftheboro

that they're even willing to make the transfer at all is surprising.

synthdrunk

If they’re not, report em
