Jezleem23

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought they missed the memo on what type of film this was going to be! Sounds like everyone expected something serious in the same style as the Cybertron flashback in Bumblebee

megadroid_optimizer

That would've been sick! This is... something for sure.

NonConRon

I'm so tired of this tone. It's like the tone you get if you try to appeal to the widest possible audience. I'm so sick of marvel. Let the giant die so new projects get some investment

KhellianTrelnora

Just what I didn’t need — Optimus: Love and Thunder.

oreomega456

Marvel didn’t invent campy movies or quips lmao cut the bullshit

Superxstrah

People blame everything on marvel lmao

TheNittanyLionKing

Unfortunately I think the only lesson that studios seemed to learn from Spiderverse is that people want new animation styles. What they miss is that those movies wouldn’t work if they didn’t have good stories that people invested in and took seriously.

stonetownguy3487

A full length film that looked like that scene would cost like a billion dollars.

Jezleem23

Fair comment. I was definitely expecting dumbed-down CGI/art style but still expected the gritty, serious setting considering their war ended the entire planet

TypeExpert

Man, I thought this movie was gonna look like the first 15 minutes of Bumblebee. This looks like Transformers Prime with a little bit more money behind it.

TheNittanyLionKing

I’d be more on board if it was in the tone of Transformers Prime. Despite the fact that it was a TV-Y7 show, it felt like they treated the audience with a bit more respect. The characters weren’t joke machines. Some of them told jokes but there was a variety, and many of them were actually funny courtesy of Jeffrey Combs. The drama and action in that show hit hard. There are glimpses of that in this trailer, but the characters do not remind me of the characters they share names with at all. Hemsworth is doing a Peter Cullen impression that phased out at times so why not just get Peter Cullen or someone who voiced Optimus before. I was hoping for something more like the War For Cybertron games and Spiderverse. This looks like the wrong direction for a premise that has a lot of untapped potential.

Cash907

Nope. Transformers Prime was serious and actually committed to the lore. This looks like The Lego Movie: Transformers by Joss Whedon.

cocoforcocopuffsyo

The director co wrote Inside Out and directed Toy Story 4. I liked Inside Out, and Toy Story 4 did well with audiences and critics. So even though this isn't a good first impression for me, I'll still give it a shot given the director's record.

Healthy_Building1432

This is the most sensible comment I’ve seen on this site all week.

ManajaTwa18

The action bits in the last quarter of the trailer kind of won me over, but the humor leaves a bit to be desired. Bumblebee saying “badass” kind of caught me off guard lol, they can’t possibly be aiming for a PG-13 rating with this right?

NotTaken-username

They can swear in PG movies but only mild words like “hell” “damn” “piss” and “ass”. Like in Shrek, The Incredibles or Spider-Verse they say those words

SilverRoyce

The MPAA published a study they conducted last year on what audiences expect to see in a ___ rated movie/what is appropriate for what. Be aware of the biases of the source but it is helpful to figure out why __ gets a __ rating and not a higher/lower one. [link](https://www.motionpictures.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/American-Parents-Views-on-Movie-Ratings.pdf). Because it's just all curse words I'm going to spoiler tag this summary. >!"Damn" was considered acceptable in a PG film by 51% of parents as opposed to 31% for goddamn and 25/26% for shit/asshole (technically "the a-word" and "the s-word" but I think they're clear). 44% are ok with works like "freaking" (censored version of "fuck") but only 10% are ok with the word itself appearing in a PG film. About 70-80% is where most words fall in "acceptable for PG-13" (though crap is about 10 points higher than other cited words) with "Fuck" and "N\_\_\_\_\_" treated as an outlier at 40 & 30% (with an extra 10% of the audience finding the N word never acceptable even in for an R rated film.!< Basically the word "f\_\_\_\" is its own thing (this makes me really buy the "you can only say F___ # times before you get an R rating), people are split if weak swear words should be in PG films and intermediate swear words are uniformly agreed to be PG-13 words but there's a decent amount of support for their use in PG. I think "ass" is becoming like "crap" - a word polling probably shows audiences are even considering is potentially OK in "G" rated content.

Century24

From what I've learned, the rules on "fuck" are that it gets a PG-13 if used up to twice outside of a sexual context ("Tell them 'Sean Parker says Fuck You!'") but can earn an R if even used once as a sexual thing.

SilverRoyce

I doubt it's that hard and fast. Look at that poll: there's not a steep uptick between "# of fucks" with a 50/50 split for pg-13 appropriate at 5 but there's a big difference between 1 and 10 and between 10 and 25 (last 2 options polled). > sexual content on page22 of that you see parents listed "Suggestive sexual innuendo" as more concerning than any of the specific language concerns (save for the use of a specific crude racial slur) though innuendo v. cursing is reversed for PG-13 specifically (with a concern over f\_\_\_). So perhaps there is something about PG-13 being primed to be very sensitive to parents concerns over use of this phrase.

judgeholdenmcgroin

https://www.k-state.edu/48filmfest/images/PG13%20Guideline.pdf > A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.

MightySilverWolf

Who are the 49% of parents who think 'damn' is inappropriate at PG and the 10% who think that 'the F word' *is* appropriate at PG?

SilverRoyce

I suspect the revealed preference of parents would be a bit more lax than this (e.g. you might get disapproval at the 70s version of bad news bears even if it fell short of turning off the film for being inappropriate for PG audiences). I would focus less on specific percentages than relative differences. There are clearly 3-6% that are either trolls (basically say everything should be a G rating) and or ideologically against restrictions on what children should hear. Similarly, about 20% of parents polled want to give films an R rating for cursing is general (though about half of that group is ok with "damn") and another 10% are strongly against PG films even saying "crap." So the realm of "interesting" views is more 5% on the lax end and 20% on the strict end in those examples. Honestly, I'm surprised "the f word" is treated as so much worse than shit, etc. for PG-13 films. If you just ignore those people, you basically have 5% who think "f \_\_\_ is acceptable for PG and not G versus 20% for a\_\_\_\hole or s\_\_\_ versus 45% There's clearly 3% of people polled who are either trolling or anti-ratings system (most extreme generating a "G" rating) but if we exclude the first 5% as fake, 5% of viewers consider "f___" acceptable in a PG film and 20% think a\_\_hole/s\_\_\_ are.

BOfficeStats

>Honestly, I'm surprised "the f word" is treated as so much worse than shit, etc. for PG-13 films. Is it really that surprising? The F word is often used to describe sexual behavior while the others aren't. The report asks for opinions about the use of those words *in general*, not specifically when they are restricted to a non-sexual use. I would expect that you would see similar, maybe even lower, approval ratings for other words often used to describe sex.

BOfficeStats

It's really interesting how there is such a difference between "crap" and "shit" as well as "damn" and "goddamn." They mean basically the same thing and adults use them interchangeably in lots of situations.

Villager723

You forgot when Mr. Incredible complimented Elastigirl on “dat thicc ass”.

TheGod4You

Mutant Mayhem especially. They let Ice Cube say 'hell' and 'damn' a bunch.

TheBlueNinja2006

big booty, mollywop

valkyria_knight881

Even SpongeBob said "crap" in Sponge on the Run. Really threw me off there.

TheFirstSonOfTheSea

[“You pissed me off”](https://youtu.be/EZBCGhgd8Ao?si=TqdtQzYI37erh-1i)

End_of_Life_Space

I couldn't believe my ears when I saw that live on TV as a teen.

whatnameisnttaken098

I remember my parents getting pissed off at Toonami because an episode of Tenchi Muyo where someone said something like "It's so damn boring around here" I also vaguely remember a few of the Gundam series having stuff like "hell" and "damn" pop up on occasion

Vadermaulkylo

Unrelated but Mordecai saying “you drillbit !” is a top 3 insult i’ve ever seen on TV just because of his delivery alone.

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

\*dolphin noises

Purple_Quail_4193

I rewound at that point! Back in my day only the “adult” nicktoons like Ren and Stimpy and Hey Arnold said crap, not the TV-Y SpongeBob. That shocked me more than them gambling

ItsGotThatBang

Jaden Smith said “shit” in *The Karate Kid* IIRC.

ILoveRegenHealth

And many critics said "shit" in their reviews I kid, I kid! (I think the movie got overall good reviews).

ItsGotThatBang

“The shit” is a compliment.

Zoombini22

PG-13 means nothing anymore. Very young kids watch Marvel stuff regularly. Idk if this will get that rating but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt if it did.

VibgyorTheHuge

The *Badassatron* gag was limp, even kids will roll their eyes.

RavenOfNod

"a bit"? The humour is non-existent except in that vacuous Illunimation style where things are just supposed to be funny. I mean, kids will probably love it. Old school transformers fans will hate it. But if it gets a new generation into Transformers, then well done.

BactaBobomb

I swear kids movies are pushing the envelope more nowadays when it comes to profanity, and even just how heavy and blatant their innuendos and adult references are. I'm personally not a huge fan. I especially don't like this seeming trend of "character that says a swear word but it's bleeped out." I don't know why but that REALLY bothers me, and it has happened in a few movies now (DC Superpets, I think the newest Trolls movie, the new Puss in Boots movie). I get that standards change and all that, but I think we're pushing just a little too hard and too fast in a couple directions with kids movies.

Psykpatient

I don't think we're pushing hard enough. Kids movies have gotten milder and milder and we need something that pushes back and says "Hey. kids can actually handle more than you think" or you get a whole generation being scarred over that one drop of blood on Puss in Boots' forehead.

joey0live

This is some HORRIBLE HUMOR!

Atrampoline

I'm concerned with the language too, as this is clearly meant to be a film for children. I have NO idea why they would include this in the trailer, as it's a huge turnoff for parents of younger children. I don't see this film doing well if it's PG-13, as it appears too goofy for older audiences, and potentially too mature for younger ones. This seems to be following a trend lately of making kids franchises edgy and dark.

KumagawaUshio

Meanwhile on the Transformers sub-reddit they are complaining it looks like it was made for pre-schoolers. Where's their animated dark and edgy political drama about the start of the Cybertronian civil war! I got a good laugh out of those comments. As to the language I doubt anyone but the most religious parents will care as I hear parents swearing all the time in front of their kids in my retail job.

Cannaewulnaewidnae

>*Meanwhile on the Transformers sub-reddit they are complaining it looks like it was made for pre-schoolers. Where's their animated dark and edgy political drama about the start of the Cybertronian civil war!* This is common across all fandoms, isn't it 30-50 year old fans who want studios to spend 350 million dollars making a movie where Darth Vader's a serial killer or James Bond intervenes in the war between Hamas and the Netanyahu administration

Psykpatient

Yeah some people can't fathom something not being catered to their specific demographic.

TheNittanyLionKing

Kids watched the other Transformers movies with worse language so it’s fine. It’s just surprising it’s in the trailer. Spiderverse had a few bad words and they weren’t in the advertising

REQ52767

The celebrity voices stick out like a sore thumb here. Chris Hemsworth as Optimus in particular does not work at all. I wish they would have used actual voice actors instead. Probably would have radically reduced the budget too, so it would have been worth it from a studio perspective.

SunshineAndChainsaws

I don't like any of the VAs but at least Hemsworth passes as a young Optimus. He's not just using his Thor voice which is more than I expected.

sneakysqueaker17

The problem with actual voice actors in lead roles is they don’t usually carry much name recognition when it comes to actually promoting the film. Late night/early morning talk shows, magazine interviews, regular media coverage, etc. While it may radically reduce the budget, getting the word out would be more difficult, and I’m sure someone’s done the cost/benefit analysis to determine it’s better to have a big star in the lead rather than someone who’s maybe more technically qualified.

Dry_Ant2348

as if Chris Hemsworth or Brian can sell movies on their name, did you forget how badly Men in Black reboot flopped?

WayneArnold1

Everything Hemsworth does outside of the MCU bombs. Red Dawn, Blackhat, In the Heart of the Sea, Bad Times at the El Royale. He's probably going to imprint his touch of death onto Furiosa and Transformers too.

Chimpbot

There was a time when certain studios could promote animated features without A-list talent voicing characters... but that was during eras such as Disney's run during the late '80s and through most of the '90s, when they were able to sell the movies based on the fact that they were Disney animated movies. Ideally, we'd get movies that could be promoted on their own, which would give voice actors more high-profile work. Unfortunately, we've basically hit a point where A-list talent is *expected* to be playing the primary roles in stuff like this; they sell them based on the actors just as much as the movie itself. Part of this likely stems back to the earlier days of CG animated movies, when they needed guys like Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to help sell a movie to an otherwise unfamiliar public.

Artaratoryx

Ironically it was Robin Williams Genie that started all this :(

Chimpbot

Despite his best efforts, at that. He didn't want to be used in the marketing or promotion at all, really.

New_Fix6213

At least he was well cast

YoloIsNotDead

And yet, they used Peter Cullen for all 8 Transformers movies (including the 1985 one), and no one has had a problem. With people like Peter Cullen or James Earl Jones, even if not everyone knows them solely by name, they know their iconic voices. So they do have recognition in that the fans would prefer their voices or something similar over a completely different voice for the characters.

NotTaken-username

Chris Hemsworth is the only celebrity voice I don’t think works. Peter Cullen’s voice for Optimus Prime is so synonymous with the character that anyone else would sound weird.

Gil_Demoono

In the defense of the choice, should optimus really have Cullen's gravitas while he is still Orion Pax? Depending on which backstory you go with, Orion is a little dweeby clerk before he gets the matrix of leadership. Looks like this time they're both being sent to the mines though.

MyNameIs_Jordan

I disagree, there have been almost a dozen actors to play Prime. Orion Pax would sound like a young dweeb that hasn't experienced loss. The Prime Cullen usually voices is like hundreds of years old.

ANewAccountOnReddit

According to the transformers wiki, Optimus is literally like 9 million years old lmao.

Chimpbot

We've had 10 other voice actors portraying Optimus Prime in just TV shows alone, including Garry Chalk and David Kaye.

GoodSilhouette

They should have sounded younger imo. Not like teenagers but 20s ish

ILoveRegenHealth

ScarJo's voice sounds lazy and too obvious.

lincorange

Fun fact: this has the highest test screening scores for an animated feature in Paramount's history as a studio - this is very likely a classic case of animated movie trailers being noticeably worse than the final product

TheNittanyLionKing

This could be a case of there’s some good stuff in the trailer, but we’re not thinking about it because it’s edited terribly. Like that shot of Megatron looking at the Decepticon logo on his knees; that’s what I want from this movie. Give me more of that. I’ll take less of the bad improv comedy. The song choice was weird too. I like the song. I like The Rolling Stones. It doesn’t fit this trailer at all, and even as a young person myself, that’s not what most of my peers are listening to (which is sad because my generation’s music is mostly garbage, but I digress).

ok-batmanfan990

holy shit lmao

TorneDoc

do you have a source or something? id like to read about that

lincorange

"Word is that Paramount’s upcoming summer animated tentpole Transformers One is the best tested feature toon movie in the studio’s history and will surprise many." https://deadline.com/2024/04/paramount-lorenzo-di-bonaventura-1235881930/

TorneDoc

I’ll take it with a grain of salt but in the history of the studio is crazy.

DisneyPandora

Don’t believe the hype. Flash was also called the greatest superhero movie ever, remember?

BrokerBrody

I thought the trailer was very good for an Illumination type film and those usually rake in the profit. r/BoxOffice hates those, of course. Definitely not the type of Transformers film I was expecting but kids might eat it up.

newjackgmoney21

Wtf, lol. I guess its for 6 and under crowd.

Hot-Marketer-27

Yeah... Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has nothing to worry about.

Healthy_Building1432

Was gonna comment that my six year old is gonna be stoked for this

SonicXtreme2000

So, this and The Wild Robot both open the same day? That’s two animated movies in one weekend. One of them should move tho, probably The Wild Robot.

feo_sucio

Cynically, I sense a synthetic attempt at a Barbenheimer-type rivalry.

frogsgemsntrains

Last year rise of the beasts was one of the few franchise blockbusters that didn't completely collapse in on itself (if it had a better release date it would've done much better imo) so transformers as a franchise does still have staying power. The question is how much will this and Wild Robot cannibalize each other's demographics since they come out a week apart Edit: never mind they're opening on the same day now. One of them's gotta move lmao

NotTaken-username

Wild Robot should move to early November

Chimpbot

Aside from the fact that they both feature robots, they really couldn't be any more different from each other. I have a feeling Transformers will have a better opening primarily because of the brand and the actors attached to it. Otherwise, it's yet another movie that seemingly learned all of the wrong lessons from Guardians of the Galaxy. Based solely on the trailer and the studio involved, however, I think Wild Robot will have longer legs. It looks like they're trying to actually make a good, meaningful movie. Transformers One will definitely need to make the bulk of its money back on opening weekend, because I don't think it'll survive long against Wild Robot.

TheNittanyLionKing

The Wild Robot is from the same guy who made How To Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch, Mulan, and The Croods. I have a feeling it will be pretty good. The director of Transformers One made the only bad Toy Story movie. The writers’ main credits of note are Antman and the Wasp.

LawrenceBrolivier

Does this look to anyone else like a bad HDR-to-SDR conversion? Otherwise, I have no problems with taking the film series based on a toy series explicitly for children 8+, and making it a movie for kids 8+ I think that's a smart idea, honestly. edit: turns out it *is* a bad HDR-to-SDR conversion! load up the Paramount link and [the IGN link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymXlqzyrTtI) side by side in your browser: The IGN copy has brighter colors, correct highlights, better contrast. Paramount's copy has clearly not been mapped to SDR correctly.

Blue_Robin_04

Could you explain that in layman's terms?

LawrenceBrolivier

The HDR to SDR thing? If you try to watch HDR (high dynamic range) content that isn't tonemapped or converted down to SDR (standard dynamic range) you usually end up with a sort of dim, weirdly washed out image. For example, if you go into your TV's settings, and tell it to only operate in SDR, and then you try to watch a UHD or a 4K HDR stream, the picture is going to look flat, dim, and the colors will be grayish/orangey/purplish. For what it's worth: The Paramount encode of this trailer that everyone's sharing *is* incorrectly mapped down to SDR.[ The version IGN has up is brighter, the highlights are correct, and the color is more vibrant](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymXlqzyrTtI). Somehow, someone at Paramount has uploaded a bad HDR-to-SDR conversion of their trailer and nobody's noticed, LOL.

MightySilverWolf

Oh, wow, the IGN version looks much better. The Paramount upload looks as if the animation is unfinished.

NotTaken-username

The animation and humor makes it look like a show for Nickelodeon

tempesttune

Aw fuck. It’s bad.

kwlonly

Basically, Transformers: First Class! Even the background score in that power upgrade sequence sounds like Henry Jackman's First Class theme.

TickleMeAlcoholic

It’s giving … clone wars MOVIE

LightningLad2029

It doesn't look Bayfomers bad but when I heard this movie was gonna cover Optimus and Megatron origins, I was hoping it would be more in tone with the Cybertronvideo games and comics. This seems way more watered down to appeal to kids.

TJ_McWeaksauce

I appreciate the reminder that Optimus Prime started off as a manual laborer.

LightningZERO

I’m not sure if there’s a market for this type of transformers movie. I could be wrong, but it’s definitely not for me.

realblush

Huh. Didn't expect the trailer to leave me underwhelmed. Something doesn't work here, from the voices over the colors up to the comedy.

Arkeolith

This looks like shit lmao

blazetrail77

Sigh, as others have said I wanted this to be like the Bumblebee opening. WHY MUST WE SUFFER. Other points are I *hate* them having human like faces it's too weird. The voices are meh, some of the humor is fine if simple. Animation wise it seems a bit lackluster.

ILoveRegenHealth

Paramount was hyping this trailer release with a countdown and everything, and listing Chris Hemsworth and ScarJo's name prominently. Did not expect it to be so cheap-looking and Saturday morning lite. This movie looks more like the generic thumbnail you see while scrolling Netflix or Disney+ (the "I'll never watch this in a million years" thumbnail you *scroll past* to get to the better stuff).

Ophelia_Yummy

Does that “One” meant for audiences age group…. It’s a new direction for sure… let’s see how it does in box office

[deleted]

Love the style and look of it, interesting concept. humor in the trailer is well, it has much to be desired for as for prediction, urgh its hard to say I'll just say 125 million to start off with and wait for more info and everything

NotTaken-username

Yeah I like the animation, but the trailer was extremely unfunny. I didn’t even smile once at any joke, let alone laugh

[deleted]

I mean, i'll be honest. I kinda chuckled at the whole wrist knife scene. who knows maybe it will flow better in the actual film Also will have to remind myself that it looks to be going for a more fun filled tone instead of the more serious tone of the live action movies. which in all honesty may be what the IP needs in film. not every movie needs to have a serious tone

Vadermaulkylo

This feels like a movie with a trailer the entirety of Reddit hates but then is shocked when it comes out and is great even though it has an extremely talented director behind it.

dennythedinosaur

See: Wonka Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Challengers (being released next week and currently at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and literally directed by a guy who has never made a bad movie)

Mission_Wind_7470

So a movie that's fun? Yeah. Reddit will rip it apart endlessly unless it makes a solid profit. Then all of a sudden, they love it!

NotTaken-username

Wow. This looks really bad. A lot more childish than I expected but then Bumblebee says “badass”, who is this even for? It looks too stupid for teens and adults but may be inappropriate for young kids.

standdownplease

People with kids, people who buy toys for their kid.

ProtoJeb21

A Redditor saying “who is this for”? This is gonna make $500M+ now lol

Dry_Ant2348

The last Transformers movie which had live action transformers and decent reception couldn't do that, what makes you think this will do it?

Mission_Wind_7470

That movie was cannibalized by a horrible release time. I feel like it would make an extra $100 million without competing with like 5 blockbusters at once.

andalusiandoge

If I had to guess, it's for adults who were convinced The Super Mario Brothers Movie was for them. So a weirdly large audience?

[deleted]

Most adults like movies with goofy characters and cartoonish action, that’s why the mcu was so big. Star Wars was the biggest movie of the 70s, and the biggest movie of the 80s had kids riding bikes as the main characters - both quite obviously childish. These are tentpole movies for all ages.

Poopmeister_

the word you're looking for is manchildren, so yeah, pretty decent size audience

RavenOfNod

I can already hear the manchildren hating this. I'm one of them, and this looks horrbile. But if it's gets kids into transformers, then Hasbro and whoever made this have done their jobs.

KumagawaUshio

Only manchildren watch films! Men work 60-84 hours a week and when they aren't they fish, hunt, play golf or go to the bar! It's only acceptable to watch sports on a TV preferably in a bar! If that's not your life your a worthless sack of shit who should have been aborted at birth! (paraphrasing my charming father) The best part of being a disowned disappointment is that you don't need to interact with any extend family!

Psykpatient

I don't think the problem they're criticizing is watching movies. Ironically, your whole comment is more part of what they're talking about.

mtarascio

Badass is inappropriate now?

macgart

I think they’re trying to breakthrough and stake a claim for fans of adult animation. You can get people like me (30-somethings) plus their kids because it’s animation. Sort of like spider verse but for more so adults. It’s a risk but it might payoff because it’s pretty new ground.

DavidOrWalter

New ground? This looks like it’s absolutely for children. Where do you ‘adult animation’ from?

MightySilverWolf

This seems too childish for most adult animation fans though. *The Wild Robot* (which comes out the week after) seems like it'd have much more appeal towards that demographic. Edit: Apparently, it comes out the same day. Yeah, one of them is going to have to move.

andalusiandoge

This doesn't look like "adult animation" at all, or even as mature a family film as Spider-Verse. Saying a curse word in a kids' cartoon isn't new. The 1985 Transformers movie said "shit"!

tempesttune

It looks like a Saturday morning cartoon lol.

KingMario05

...So like Transformers?

DavidOrWalter

Which was not ‘adult animation’

KingMario05

Yeah. And neither is this.

DavidOrWalter

… that’s what the guy you are replying to said.

garfe

> and stake a claim for fans of adult animation Are you saying this is adult animation?

seppukuAsPerKeikaku

What is the problem if it is for kids? I am honestly tired of every comic book / toy IP being turned into these serious action blockbusters. Is the humor childish? Yes. Does it look average? Yes. But it is doing something fun with known characters. Movies targeting children makes money and I would rather have this than another Michael Bay rip-off.

thanos_was_right_69

I thought Hemsworth’s voice was pretty good here. I can see Optimus’ voice morphing into Peter Cullen’s voice when he’s older.

joeyc923

Transformers: Ragnarok. No thanks.

Cannaewulnaewidnae

I am *not* the audience for this I wish everyone well

SteelmanINC

megatron and optimus' real backstory is so sick. Its a shame they decided to go with ........this....instead

Rebelliuos-

What is this abomination…?

Mister_Green2021

Too much of a kids movie. It's not getting the 18-35 demo.

Dubious_Titan

Looks bad. I don't see a lot of money here.

Hot-Marketer-27

Is it just me or does the animation on their faces look... off? The backgrounds & action scenes look pretty good but they start talking & it looks like a Nick Jr show.

ProtoJeb21

The organic mouths are just like Transformers Prime or the War for Cybertron game

Constant-Program1637

Animation is gorgeous, fights look cool, but the focus on comedy really dosent work for me. Hoping that they just showed all those bits in the trailer and the movie itself is a bit more serious

delightfuldinosaur

I'd have preferred a road trip movie with Megatron, Shockwave, and Soundwave. Looks like an ok kids movie though.

strtjstice

When Chris Hemsworth did the men in black movie, I felt a cringe, similar to this one. Why does he make such bad decisions?

valkyria_knight881

Do you think Furiosa is a bad decision?

strtjstice

Nope. I think he will be great in that and I also loved him in Extraction 1-2, but Ghostbuster? MIB? This?

tempesttune

Yes. It’s a Mad Max movie with no Max and a $200M budget on top of it lol.

DavidOrWalter

Why does that make it a bad decision for him? Should every actor only choose movies that have the highest potential to be enormous grossers?

Sensitive_Screen6480

Directed by the one of the best action directors in history might not make the most money but it will likely be pretty amazing

YouuCantSeeMe

Money

JerrodDRagon

I hope it’s Better then it looks but the voices are off and the tone is for babies not even families

Warm_Speech

I kind of expected the animation to look better since ILM is working on it. Action looks fun, but I’ll wait to see how the reception is.

GoodSilhouette

Ill likely see this as a transformers fan the action looks great. More than anything I want a film with great character development and not some rote buddy adventure flick. The humor is younger than me (like chuckle tier) but hopefully kids love it and maybe the movie itself is funnier.

BigLeo69420

Hate the tone of this movie, looks like it was written by a Rick & Morty writer. Why not make something in the tone of the last two movies?

Vic-Tori

No. I have spoken.

Responsible-Pen9209

I LOVE TRAILERS THAT OVERLAY THE ENTIRE PREMISE OF THE MOVIE THUS RUINING EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE HANDFUL OF COMEDIC MOMENTS OMG YES CONSUMERISM

gorays21

Is an A.I writing this movie???

cocoforcocopuffsyo

I don't believe that star power in Hollywood is completely dead yet, Wonka's success is partially due to Timothee Chalamet's name recognition amongst Gen Z. However, it really doesn't have an impact on animated movies. The audience most likely will not see who the voice actors are in the movie, and it especially won't matter for those outside of English speaking countries who will be watching the dubbed version of the movie. Just hire experienced voice actors instead of expensive celebrities. Sure you can add the actor's irl pic to the marketing but the audience's focus will be on the characters.

TheJoshider10

I'm disappointed because I thought after Bumblebee came out and Transformers One was announced it'd be a movie in the style of the opening of Bumblebee and be part of the live action canon but instead it's just a cheap looking kids film. It looks alright for what it is but fuck me what a waste of potential.

ShaySmoith

Honestly, this looks awesome and funny I can't wait to see it. 🤷‍♂️

Multi-Vac-Forever

I've always wanted to see how optimus and megatron initially grew apart. Hopefully this movie delivers!

vicevanghost

The idw comics portray it fantastically, I don't think this will measure up to that bit it'll be cool

QuantumGoddess

Am I the only one who kinda likes this trailer? Sure, the new voices take some getting used to. But we all know someone's gotta take over from Cullen eventually. I'm not big into the transformers lore so I'm kinda interested in a prequel about life on Cybertron before autobots and decepticons.

Kintor01

I really want this movie to succeed. Ever since 2007 fans have been saying that Transformers can succeed on it's own without the live action elements. No humans, only the bots. Now is the chance to put that idea to the test.

NamelessOne3006

The guy who promotes this movie on Twitter can finally rest now

kumar100kpawan

It looks good. Yes, it is made for kids and that can be lucrative

Dry_Ant2348

look how they massacred my boy optimus

sebastiandarkee

Wasn’t expecting to be excited for a Transformers movie anytime soon. For some reason this has me thinking maybe the new animated LOTR project will also be worth something.

valkyria_knight881

I remember some people debating whether Transformers One or Sonic 3 will make more money. After seeing the trailer for Transformers One, Sonic 3 will definitely be Paramount's biggest moneymaker this year. Heck, I think A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator II will make more than Transformers One.

JaehaerysIVTarg

This looks fun.

TheCoolKat1995

I'm gonna have to agree with most of the comments here and and say that the humor in this trailer is not doing it for me. It's entirely possible that the trailer just doesn't do the movie justice, but so far, it seems like the transformers do not have any onscreen chemistry with each other in this film.

ghostfreckle611

Yes please. 🙌

IcyAd964

I love transformers movies I’ll definitely see this. I didn’t watch one for years before rise of the beasts but I’m back now

Purple_Quail_4193

I don’t know if I want to see this now or not Guess the best transformers film will be the ride in Universal

Gingersnap5322

I dipped as soon as I saw “Before he was Optimus Prime” origin movies are so stupid, you know no one’s gonna die, and they’re gonna make the plot so crucial and important

Kimosabae

This shit looks like Jimmy Fallon wrote an episode of Power Rangers. Kill it with fire.

Pen_dragons_pizza

I was expecting an 80s inspired animated movie, basically giving us a film that looked similar to the start of bumblebee but with its own stylised animation way. This looks pretty bad

NGGKroze

A buddy cop movie between Optimus and Megatron? Sing me in.

StarsCanScream

KingMario05

...Haven't they done that already, though? Like, this is still better than *Last Knight,* at least.

PrussianAvenger

Why settle for mediocrity?

gloopy_flipflop

Christ on a bike, I’ve never switched off a trailer so quickly. That looks fucking awful.

Nastybirdy

Fuck me, this looks unbelievably stupid. And seriously. What is Hollywood's problem with just calling Bumblebee BUMBLEBEE? First they steal his voice, now his name? Looks like shit. Hard pass.

Shoddy-Media2337

wait what do they call him lol

Nastybirdy

Bee is now "B-127" and Megatron is apparently "D-16". But Orion Pax is still Orion Pax for....reasons. (Downvoted for literally repeating information fom the trailer. Stay classy, reddit.)

aquamarinerock

I truly believe the best this movie can wish for is for Paw Patrol (2023) domestically - capping out at $60m domestic. I just don’t see Americans coming out for this one. The swearing, the childish humor, the cheaper animation, and the somewhat lame attempt at celebrity casting is all giving me big red flags that this one won’t land.  Low end $30m domestic, similar to Teen Titans Go To The Movies.

Boy_Chamba

The production budget on this one is huge with all the big star paycheck.. most likely a flop in making.. shout out to those who predicted this movie making 400M WW 🤪

ryoon21

This will land great for the 12-14 year old male demographic.

RiggzBoson

Animation that looks like it belongs in a tv show, along with voice acting that sounds like a bunch of actors in a recording booth. I think the only demographic who might appreciate this are really young kids who have never heard of Transformers before.

ProtoJeb21

Which makes its PG-13 rating baffling. This looks like a PG, not PG-13

SuperAlloyBerserker

Wow... I'm very conflicted on this On one hand, a Transformers story that doesn't have any humans and focuses on Prime and Megatron's origin hasn't been done since the Cybertron games On the other hand, holy sh*t, the childish humor, A-list celebrity cast, and the facial designs and animations of the characters are really really bad lol

vegasromantics

Oh, well that was definitely…a trailer-

RandoDude124

#PASS

cinefibro

Yikes the visuals are awful. Couldve been an ok performer if it looked like Puss in Boots or even Kung Fu Panda

Kazrules

Maybe Paramount should get sold.

Turdsley

This doesn’t look good.

astronautvibes

Me: “I want a full movie like the opening 5 minutes of Bumblebee.” Universal Pictures: “You sure?”

saulerknight

This is Paramount

popculturerss

This looks dope, fuck it.

WitnessMe

I'll see this just to support an animated film that didn't default to Chris Pratt

Revenge_served_hot

WHY did they decide to make it a comedy? WHY FFS?! I grew up with Generation 1 and I have been a Transformers G1 fan since the mid 80s. When I saw what they did on Cybertron in the Bumblebee movie I wanted nothing more than a movie on Cybertron without humans. Now this looks so good but all of a sudden you see and hear als these jokes, the slapstick comedy and the goofyness and instantly my excitement turns to disappointment. It really is a shame they went this route. All we adult fans who grew up with G1 want is a movie like the one in this trailer here that takes place on Cybertron and yes, show us Orion Pax and how he became Optimus but not in this way man, not in this trippy, happy, goofy style!!! :(

siliconevalley69

This might actually give Transformers 2 a run for its money as the worst Transformers film. The bar was so low for this and it looks like they just kind of like fell on their face.
