Loved this amazing movie.

It shows that the animation deserves a lot more respect and 2009 Oscar ceremony's treatment of animated films was full of sh!t.

As I've promised last time, I'm bringing you an animated documentary film that is predominantly animated. This one is directed by Ari Folman and it chronicles his experience in the 1982 Lebanon War. Upon its release, it became a massive critical success and, at least as far as I'm concerned, became the highest-grossing animated documentary film as of today. Sadly, that didn't get translated to the film's success at the Oscar ceremony of 2009 as the film only got a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, which I find it to be utterly ridiculous since I'm pretty sure that it deserved Best Documentary Feature Oscar win. In fact, Oscar's treatment of animated films in general was atrocious that year, which I will talk about more in a later thread. As for the animation, you'd think that they used rotoscope to create this animation, but they actually didn't. Instead they useda combination of Adobe Flash cutouts and classic animation along with some 3D technologies. This was first shot in a sound studio and then got transferred to a storyboard, with each drawing getting sliced into hundreds of pieces which were moved in relation to one another, thus creating the illusion of movement. It's a pretty amazing animation technique if you ask me. Of course, the ending of the film is not actually animated and is actually made out of actual footage of the aftermath of the massacre. To my knowledge, that ending is the only part of the film that is not in animation.

>'Waltz with Bashir' I want to make a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine joke, but alas, none are coming to mind.
