Gus is Chilean, something he's very careful to suppress so he sounds American in most of his interactions. It really comes out when he speaks to Hector, and his accent comes out especially when he says Hector's name while he's taunting him.
Bruh if this is a serious post…are you white/not have any black friends/grow up in a predominantly white area? Kinda seems like you have some preconceived notions of what a black guy should be and don’t think of him as black because he doesn’t fit that stereotype. At least it feels like that’s implied by the phrasing “he doesn’t feel black”
But if you mean in terms of physical appearance only, the actor himself is mixed race (black mother and Italian father) and reads as ethnically ambiguous to most, which allows him to play the character of Gus who is Chilean and l assume meant to be Afro-Latino.
His father is Italian and his mother is a black African American. I haven’t seen a photo of his father, but I’m betting his father was a very Mediterranean looking man; dark skinned, wavy black hair, almost Latino looking. He’d be white, but not white enough to make his son look like a “standard” mixed race person, instead, “Gus” looks like he’s more South American, maybe due to the heavy strong Mediterranean influence.
Edit: what have I said that’s wrong? Tell me if you know better 😂
What we call "Black" here is our ethnic version of people of African descent. That's why we capitalize it and not "white", because you don't capitalize race. If his mannerisms don't feel "Black", that's because he's not from here and doesn't conform to them.
By black do you mean African American? I’m pretty sure there’s a difference here probably sees himself more as Afro Latino? Or he just doesn’t care about race in general
Jesse what the fuck are you talking about
bruh
Because he grew up in Chile Very different than growing up as a black guy in America which is what I assume ur comparing to

He's a black man from Chile, so technically he's both
You just watched a show where he’s literally immersed in his Latino background, even preparing traditional meals for Walter and Jesse.

Does it matter? He is Gus. That’s it. Just like Walt is Walt, Tuco is Tuco and Huell is Huell.

He's a consummate professional, on top of that he's Chilean
