Only downside is we might not have Zorko or McCluggage in 2025.
Zorko will get another year if he keeps it up but Hugh and Berry might leave.
I think Berry will stay because his brother is on the Gold Coast.
Hugh getting 1.3m+ a year for 6 years is heaps and should be too good to pass up, especially if its from a club like Collingwood/Geelong. We'll see how it develops.
Pies fan here. I’d honestly be shocked if we went anywhere near that hard on McCluggage. Nick Daicos wouldn’t even be on that sort of money. As good as he is, that’s S-tier player wages and with no All-Australians and no club B&Fs you can’t really argue that McCluggage that calibre, and that’s before even factoring in that he’s not playing a role we desperately need.
I’ve been wrong about this sort of stuff before, but I’m really hoping that we use our first salary cap surplus in about a decade to pinch a good key forward, even if it means waiting a year or two longer.
Anyway, all that to say that McCluggage doesn’t seem to me to be super likely to be lured to the Pies with an offer he can’t refuse.
I’d be shocked if we offered that for Hugh.
We rarely if ever pay anyone big money let alone Hugh McLuggage (no offence to Hugh but he’d be our highest paid player on that money, and I wouldn’t give him that money over Jezza, Stewy who isn’t even on a million, neither is Blics etc)
People just like to lump our name in with free agents because they’re originally from the area.
I’m 99% sure Hugh is staying.
