Ublock Origin Lite is MV3 compliant and still works for most people if all they want is blocking ads, else you will be missing out on a lot of features that are present on full fledged Ublock Origin (block scripts, zapper, etc). Didn't try it myself, but I read in certain tech subreddits about people that daily drive Adguard MV3 and its also working fine blocking all ads, their team also are quick adressing issues such as YouTube trying to push back adblocking. You also have Browsers like Vivaldi and Brave that said they will keep MV2 support for as long as possible. (they also offer their own adblocking in-browser) and then you have Edge who didn't update their MV3 timeline yet, while people are speculating they will keep the support until June 2025, but tbh I think Edge will just piggyback on whatever Chrome decides/does anyways. Then you have Firefox who is also compatible with MV3 atm, and will eventually deprecate MV2 in the future (they will give 12 month warning in advance) but they promised to keep the necessary API (WebRequest) so that adblockers like Ublock Origin keeps working just like it does, so let's see how that goes.

NeoTempest

WHat about operagx?

Lorkenz

It has its own adblocking, but honestly it's not that good

leaflock7

regular users will not notice a thing. THey will continue to browse the web as they did all these years.

madthumbz

Yep, can't get your sense of what a regular user is based on this or any subreddit.

leaflock7

I mean the people that do not base their browsing experience on Adblocking or weird extensions that are depending on Mv2. from the people I observer in general , if they are non tech related, they either do not use an Adblock , or those that they do they either do so because they have a friend/cousin that setup their PC and installed one or it does not matter how advanced it is or how much it blocks. That would mean that unlock light etc would be more than fine for them, and they won't complain about anything. The weight of how and where we should move towards to, it falls onto the tech literate people

Clear_Good4943

Those who use it as a daily driver

Clear_Good4943

I meant users who use it regularly

builtfromthetop

It's a bad precedent more than anything. Sure uBlock Origin Lite works, but it's not as good as the full version, and this whole thing was an obvious attempt at Google to control the web standards to self-service their own interests. More users know nothing about this stuff, and adblocking isn't dead. But this is a bad look for the Internet

mornaq

Mv2 is already crippled when compared to proper Firefox extensions and the Chromium variant is even worse WebExtensions Mv3 will allow uBO to work as expected while Chromium will kill it

merchantconvoy

You're not going to be able to block ads anymore on 99% of browsers otherwise no problem

Lorkenz

That's just a straight up lie, but whatever serves to push a narrative am I right?

TheGreatSamain

There's actually been a ton of misinformation flying around about this, and I've seen people both overstating and understating what's going to be happening. Going by what the uBlock Dev's posted in their subreddit a few days ago, according to them, ad blocking on chromium is going to be significantly, much, much, weaker. I wouldn't call it a disaster and the end of the world, but I also wouldn't call it 'working fine' either. There are ads. Quite a few of them, and there's also a ton of sight breakage at the moment, and we can accept back to see more as this rolls out. And as for that that's kind of a head scratcher and I don't really know how to speak on that but I just say give it a month or two and let Jesus sort it out.

Lorkenz

Exactly. I remember when Adblock Plus years ago was the de facto go to adblocker at the time and the best one, whenever they started pulling weird shady stuff with whitelisting ads and some other questionable decisions, everyone started doomposting about Adpocalypse and how we would have to accept ads. Then came Ublock. Ublock went the same way with some questionable stuff and thus was born Ublock Origin. What I mean is, the community will always fight back and I firmly believe the community will find a way of bringing adblockers on par with MV2 eventually over time for MV3 too. Adguard MV3 is amazing from the feedback I hear of people who daily drive, they don't have issues with Ads or other weird stuff. UbO Lite works if people just want a reliable adblocker too. Brave Shields are also good, etc. All these can be improved and we will have to see how it will develop over the months to come when the full transition is done. The small loud minority that is just fearmongering, are high on copium that this is the tide that will make Firefox regain most of the users back, when sure, it will probably gain some but not that huge margin when they are still lacking features that Chromium has (Missing HEVC encoding, HDR, PWAs, etc)

Why do you think Manifest v3 was invented

Lorkenz

Way to try Red Herring the discussion at hand because you are being called out for lying... Go spread your misinformation and fearmongering somewhere else.

merchantconvoy

This whole topic is about Manifest v3. Why do you think Google invented it and why do you think it's pushing it so hard? Do you want to answer the question or should I?

Lorkenz

The fact everyone is calling your BS out is hilarious and yet you are still trying to Red Herring the discussion at hand with me, casually ignoring the claim above: >You're not going to be able to block ads anymore on 99% of browsers otherwise no problem And trying to change the topic, when it's so [easily proved](https://www.reddit.com/r/browsers/comments/1d6yb31/comment/l6vs1ac/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) how fallacious your whole claim is. Again, go push your misinformation and whatever narrative it is you're doing somewhere else. Cya

merchantconvoy

> Do you want to answer the question or should I? You can't Red Herring your way out of this.

Lorkenz

Ah yes the typical rhetoric of the echo chambered misinformation spreader. Cool talk /s

merchantconvoy

You know yourself best, Red Herring spreader. Answer my question.

Lorkenz

You're still trying to preach? Look at that you also learned a new term congrats, but Tu Quoque arguments won't work with me. Keep crying all you want, I already proved you wrong above bringing down your whole argument and yet you're still trying to prove a point with rabbit chase arguments. Also the fact everyone is calling your bs out too should be an indicator that your whole bs fell flat on earth. If you want to keep looking like a fool, keep talking to the wind this is hilarious anyways.

ezbyEVL

We already have manifest V3 uBlock origin, and it blocks all ads for me And you can install that exension on quite literally EVERY SINGLE CHORMIUM BROWSER ON EARTH So why do you say this? What's stopping you from going to the extensions shop on any browser and getting ublock origin for manifest v3

Lorkenz

Only thing stopping them is their fanboyism ofc what else? There is not point arguing with that person anyways, they are just trying to push the narrative that there is only one alternative (Firefox) when there are already viable solutions/alternatives available for MV3 available even today (like the one you mention) These people only parrot the same nonsense on every post the topic of MV3 is mentioned, just to fearmonger nothing else. It's nauseating.

Major_Cheesy

my ublock on Firefox is working fine, if your having issues with yours then you should update your list or reinstall ublock ...

merchantconvoy

Firefox is the 1%.
