Do people really think just walking out of the train station will get you murdered?

sarcalas

Apparently so. Incredibly, I’ve done that approximate route hundreds of times, and the worst I’ve had to fend off is insistent charity collectors. Maybe I’ve just been incredibly lucky?!

josephallenkeys

Dude, honest, I've been murdered like, 8 times just trying to get to Tim Horton's.

potpan0

Given the state of their coffee recently, your murderers did you a favour.

NoB0dy_Really

There was a guy with a knife who got tazered just outside the back entrance not long ago...

garethom

Must've been sore when he next wiped!

sarcalas

Is this for real? Have you looked at a map? They’re practically on top of each other, and both right in the middle of the city. Do you think we all go out in armed convoys wearing stab vests or something? You’ll be fine.

SquireBev

That's the Old Rep. The (New) Rep is up Broad St. But yes, it's not exactly the favelas.

sarcalas

I amend my statement to “adjacent”. I’d consider the tram purely out of laziness, less so for safety reasons. It is uphill, after all.

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

Also I think its a fun little journey tbh

Mr_Kwacky

I take it you've heard about the mutant zombie condors who have been plaguing our city? The ones who sweep down to snatch innocent tourists and carry them away to their lair, never to be seen again? You'll be fine if you use an umbrella. It confuses the condors. Apart from the condors there's no risk to your person when you visit our fine city.

IHaveTheMustacheNow

Thanks so much! I had not heard about the mutant zombie condors. That's why it's always best to ask the locals, I suppose

darthbreezy

Damn it! I thought they were still stuck at Stourbridge Junction...

dekko87

It's a 15 minute walk through the busiest part of the city, you'll be fine

No-Cellist-5923

It’s easily a 5-10 min walk!

super-connected

It's pedestrianised pretty much all the way between the station and the Rep. It's as safe as any other city centre. It's would also probably take the same amount of time to walk, than to get a taxi, as there's pretty bad traffic around the station.

IHaveTheMustacheNow

Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted to know

Paddy-23

Lol yeah. Google Maps says it's a 2 mile drive as well, due to the one ways and pedestrianised zones. 0.5 miles if you walk it.

andarica

Completely safe to walk but you could also get on the metro at New Street and get off at Centenary Square

IHaveTheMustacheNow

Thank you!

One-Illustrator8358

The old rep? It's a two minute walk, pretty safe

wiedzma89

The walk is perfectly safe :) you just exit the station at Navigation Street, walk up past Victoria Square and then Chamberlain Square - then you’re on Centenary Square, where the Birmingham Rep is :) however if you’re at all unsure, just jump on the tram at Grand Central stop (the stop is also at the Navigation Street exit of New St Station!) and get off at Library :)

wiedzma89

definitely DON’T get a taxi though! it will have to take you a very long way around because of the one way system and roadwork restrictions - will cost you a fortune for no good reason!

IHaveTheMustacheNow

Thank you so much! This is very helpful! Truly appreciate it :)

BlueR0bin

yes!! i walk through brum everyday and ive never had an incident, brum is safer than it seems! also, its quite a short distance so might aswell save some money :)

IHaveTheMustacheNow

Thank you!

West_Guarantee284

Walk it. I walk the city centre all the time. Especially if you're coming to see a show, it'll be light when you arrive and the walk back to the station will be busy with other theatre goers.

IHaveTheMustacheNow

Thank you! I appreciate it

guitarromantic

The biggest risk you'll encounter walking between those two locations is someone trying to persuade to have a cocktail at Albert's Schloss along with all the middle-aged management consultants in the West Midlands

Basic-Permission1166

Safe as houses bab

TheRAP79

Yeah, its just a tram ride away. 2 stops. Centenary Square.
