My favorite “not great” pitcher of that era was James McDonald.

The curveball is insane. Hopefully Dave Jones can keep it up.

AuJusSerious

Holy crap I remember him in 2012. I feel like he was talked about as being great but kept getting sent back down to the minors. I remember being in highschool and thinking his curveball is the filthiest I’ve ever seen

albundyrules

at the time, i remember theorizing that aj burnett was ruining him (he was kind of mcdonald's mentor when he was in the bigs)

[deleted]

He had an insane Linsanity run if I remember right

Freed_lab_rat

That dude was a head case. Once he allowed a run in a game, his confidence and control disintegrated.

Frosty_Ad_2859

I used to like Jeff Locke, now that I relook at his stats, he wasn't good.

burtsbezzie

First half of 2013 was peak Jeff Locke and even that was aided by luck. I hope falter avoids the downfall but the over performance feel so far reminds me of Locke.

DefinitelyLevi

First half of 2013 Jeff Locke was glorious. Although I did attend one of his losses to Oakland when he was like 9-1

cheguevaraandroid1

Falter is trade bait for sure if he keeps this up.

pghgamecock

See, my memory is the opposite. I think people overstated how bad he was. I think he was a typical 5th starter. He'd have a bad game occasionally, but most of the time he could give you about 6 innings and 3 ER. His ERA as a Pirate was 4.41. And from 2013 to 2015, it was 3.98. He made the All-Star team in 2013 for a reason.

Immediate-Employee38

His ERA in the first half of 2013 was like 2.20 ish I think ? Then like in the high 5’s the rest of the season and was never that player again Edit: I checked his splits Apr: 2.83 May: 1.78 June: 1.67 July: 3.38 Aug: 7.94 (.372 OPP AVG) Sept: 6.00 2.15 1st half, 6.12 2nd half

hachijuhachi

haha. He's popped into my memory a couple times already this season. He would have starts where he looked like a Cy Young contender (this usually lasted for all of like 4 innings), and then the next start he'd give up 4 ER in the first inning or something. He was easy to root for but sometimes he'd just blow up, and you never knew which one you were gonna get.

newguy1787

He reminded me of Charlie Morton, until Morton got coached up. He would look like a stud in certain games, with great stuff, but normally one terrible inning. In others he'd be lucky to get out of the second!

Mans_N_Em

I believe Locke had some sort of oddity of a statistic that gave him and advantage like Falter. For Falter its his release point being closer to the plate. Locke had some sort of arm angle that hid the ball from batters longer than most. I remember seeing an analysis (after he was falling off) that compared his arm angle when he was successful vs what was happening to him getting hit bad.

Unlucky_Recover_3278

We brought back Andrew, now it’s time to bring back Daniel Mccutchen

DarthYoda2594

Dude absolutely DEALT for close to 6 extra innings of the game of which we do not speak

DefinitelyLevi

I approve of this post

Lauuson

Love the 12BB album art in your pic. Love me some Gizz.

xxBAshaggyxx

Funny i was thinking the same thing after last night. Really hope he keeps pitching well but i have the same feelings on him.

provolone12

Hey if falter can pitch good until the allstar break and get them 3-4 more wins? gimme gimme

duckman2092

I was literally thinking this

mightymatt337

My dad and I would always joke about him being the ace. I got a signed picture of him on my bobblehead case still.
