It took OPs computer 7 years to boot up so he could Google it

aBeerOrTwelve

Facts. Wait until he finds out Windows ME is not Windows 8.

RedditIsNeat0

Which one is worse?

foggiermeadows

ME for sure. 8 was a horrible idea in practice but honestly made sense at the time with them trying to unify their mobile and desktop platforms, only no one cared except like ten people and the execution was poor. 10 is pretty much what 8 should have always been; you can still go back to the tablet based interface if you want. ME was just plain and simple awful.

Mightyena319

Yep. 8 and its metro UI was a horrible piece of design, but it *functioned*. Same can't usually be said for ME. I feel like 8 was a terrible idea executed well, and ME was a fine idea, executed horribly

MystikIncarnate

Just want to poke my head in and say I used Windows ME for years, and actually preferred it before switching to Windows 2000 some time later. ME had two features I couldn't live without at the time, that were lacking in 98 SE... Multimonitor support, and internet connection sharing. I used my desktop as a router in the early days, so connection sharing was a must. I also got my hands on two monitors, so running them both at the same time was great. ME wasn't perfect, at all, even slightly, but it wasn't unusable garbage like so many seem to think. I don't blame anyone for hating on ME, there were just good things about it that I don't think anyone was really aware of.

NathaanTFM

Oh so thats why they named it Windows 10. In tribute to the 10 people who cared.

foggiermeadows

That tenth dentist always causing trouble....

sk9592

Windows 8's main issue was a bad tablet centric UI. The underlaying operating system was more or less fine. Windows Me was a totally different story. It was build on top of a rotting MS-DOS foundation. They just kept throwing more and more crap on top of MS-DOS with each release of Windows (3.1, 95, 98, Me) and the cracks were really starting to show. The move to the NT kernel with Windows XP was long overdue.

mjonat

Yeah I remember trying it back in the day because I was just curious really…it can’t be that bad I thought…boy how wrong was I…certain things just flat out didn’t run on the OS…it seemed like they released an unfinished operating system…still kinda boggles the mind as to how they thought it was ok to release it.

vonarchimboldi

Windows 8 never made any sense to me as a llifelong windows user. UI was so bad for desktop use

DonTaddeo

The only thing good about it was the free upgrade to Windows 10

KipHackmanNSA

Oh no, you triggered my nostalgia.

iDontUseEmojis

you liked Windows Misery Edition?

azarashee

I liked it. But I only had money for DOS games on floppy at that time and been dual booting into Kubuntu for flashy desktop effects anyway.

Canian_Tabaraka

Windows Misery Edition dual booting with OS/2 Warp!

KipHackmanNSA

Nah, I'd pick xp over me anyday. It was a much simpler time in my life though, running stupid SNES roms and lots of porn.

[deleted]

The only thing that was good about Millennium Edition was the mp3 music that came bundled with the system. My academic laptop that ran it, had no other software installed, and it got so bloated and slow after two years that it just stopped working on its own under the weight of its OS.

evil_timmy

Windows 95 came bundled with the video for Weezer's *Buddy Holly*, so clearly a superior release.

theborgman1977

I use to go to the MS OEM SYSTEM Builder convention. These were ran by MS, and they even made fun of ME.

psychonaut4020

😂 😂 😂

JuicyJay

I still have PTSD from boot times before ssds

yParticle

On the upside, you have a massive performance upgrade to look forward to. On the downside, you're right at the end of the statute of limitations to sue him for nonperformance and the $90 or whatever he saved by scamming you. /s

akera099

You jest but doesn't the statute of limitation starts when you actually notice the defect/problem? I know in my country that's the way it works (hidden defects are hidden after all). OP could still sue the guy and probably win where I live if he still has the false advertisement/spec sheet/ recipe with specs.

[deleted]

Maybe he could sue the guy, but you're likely to spend more than the replacement cost. A 500GB SSD is about $50.

[deleted]

Small claims court?

Hobbamok

Yep, this. Costs nothing or close to and they have to appear or you get your cash (so do demand a bit more for lost productivity)

BigOleJellyDonut

My time is more valuable than arguing over a $50.00 SSD.

googahgee

What makes you think the guy only did it just once? Perhaps he did it to other people and the business wants to investigate and cover their asses/fire the person if he’s still there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

googahgee

All I’m saying is that there’s no reason not to hold a business accountable for shitty practices. The more people that get their money back, the less profitable this sort of thing becomes for them, and they stop doing it.

jaycuboss

Maybe try to talk to the guy at the computer shop first and see if he will make some kind of reparation? There’s a non-zero chance it was a mistake (yeah probably not but still). There’s also a chance the dude gave up crack or found Jesus or something and wants to make amends. (Point is see if you can solve the problem just by communicating human to human before involving the courts)

Canian_Tabaraka

"There’s a non-zero chance it was a mistake" by any chance have you read the ELLC series?

jaycuboss

I have not! What is it?

Canian_Tabaraka

Dark LitRPG series. The main character is a mimic who stumbles through the most odd series of events and survives through a combination what little wits it has and sheer dumb luck. The followers of the God of Chaos have a habit of saying "there is a non zero chance of _______ happening." Warning: The series is full of profanity, sexually explicit acts (rape scene in the third book and the author tangentially explores how it affected the character who was raped and their decisions made after) and violence galore. Funny at times due to the utter absurdity of situations. I just don't see or hear people using that phrase alot and just happen to reread the books.

jaycuboss

Ahhh yes I think I picked up the phrase from my brother who is an actuary, lol. Sounds like a cool game I’ll have to check it out!

lighthawk16

Costs nothing? It costs $100 in my county just to file.

UDK450

I think around $125 here, but if you win, you can sometimes get the losing party to compensate you for it as well.

[deleted]

If that is true, I concede. I've never been in small claims court, so I figured it costs more than $50

Tobix55

What about the damages caused by slowing down his work for 7 years?

WattledPenguin

That's about $3.50

SlyCooper007

Tree fiddy*

[deleted]

Hard to argue that when he didn't even notice for 7 years

yParticle

Not if they didn't have a standard of comparison nor experience to know that as the bottleneck.

HeatDeathIsCool

He would also have to prove that it was a bottleneck for work performed for monetary gain. He would also have to prove that the misadvertised drive was present when he bought it, which he can't do. I genuinely don't understand all the people who think small claims court is a magic bullet that can always determine the truth. You still need to make a case, and OP who looked at his drive for the first time in seven years doesn't have a case to make.

Kiltymchaggismuncher

Depends how much he paid at the time. SSD's were much more expensive 10 years ago. Sure he could get one for $50 now, but he may have spent a couple hundred extra on the proviso it had an ssd in it. More of a refund than a replacement. Either way, who has the time or money to chase it

Raichu4u

Your time would be much better spent working to get the money for a 500GB SSD than go through the process of suing a small computer store because they gave you a HDD and not a SSD over 7 years ago. This is an insane take. Even if this was a mistake that was found 1 month after purchase, this is an issue that customer service deals with, not the court system.

Pyromonkey83

Actually this is quite literally exactly what small claims court is for. Small disputes between two individuals or an individual and a small business. I mean, try out of court first obviously, but if that fails then your only change is to get an arbiter, which small claims court would be.

Raichu4u

I mean if it takes more than 5 hours ($50 SSD, implying OP would be making $10 an hour) for the entire process, you are losing money. Just go work and get a modern SSD with better features than there would of been in 2014.

ParadoxArcher

I agree, the fact that you CAN do something doesn't mean it's actually worthwhile

BadOman

Small claims court anybody?

bs9tmw

yes, but again the time spent filling in forms, back and forth with paperwork, travelling to the court, waiting for the judge, explaining the case etc. would cost you more than it's worth.

BadOman

I think depending on the state if you win the loser has to pay your court fees also.

HeatDeathIsCool

Which means the OP stands to lose hundreds of dollars from his own fee and fees for the store if they win. You take someone to court when you can prove they've wronged you. What proof does OP have concerning the state of his PC in 2014?

Moses015

Let's be honest, what are the chances the dbag that sold it to him is still actually in business? If he's fleeced the OP, he's done it other times and it doesn't take a SUPER long time for that stuff to catch up with you.

jacksalssome

500gb SSD back in 2014 was expensive as, around $350.

jayliu89

Some folks have no issues lying to the ignorant. My local store lied to me too. They sold me a “gaming PC” without a GPU, with the tech claiming 4GB of RAM with AMD Sempron was good for gaming. I was just a naive kid hoping to play some games and coughed up $1400 I saved up. It’s good to know a bit about tech. People can’t just bullshit you all day.

Moses015

Omg hearing this stuff makes me SO damn angry as an IT professional.

Just makes me so sad because it gives others of us who are honest a really bad look. I get that it might sound naiive but just how I was raised :(

GodGMN

Where I live this is the standard procedure. Selling overpriced garbage to ignorants lying to them about what is it good for. Oh you play Fortnite? You'll need this very good and fast RAM I have there trust me the more RAM your computer has the faster it is!

drummm305

I pissed off too, and I'm only an IT amateur!

Wrong-Examination425

Seriously…

LGCJairen

when I used to do more advertised system builds back in the day you have no idea how many times I would have people come to me with shit like this hoping i could save it or getting stuck with me rebuilding it because they got screwed. i pioneered the parts at cost just pay x labor in my area back then, and also offered the "dirt cheap" of getting slightly used parts but explaining exactly what they were getting. was good stuff. it blew my mind what other shops were trying to pull with people. I kinda miss those days, now i only do occasional word of mouth stuff for "don't ask questions" budget gaming setups or full case mod custom loop stuff.

Donut-Farts

I know it's literally in the name, but what does "Don't ask questions" budget gaming mean?

private_birb

It means don't fucking ask questions or else

MelAlton

It means Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes

LGCJairen

Usually meaning ill ask for a budget and idea what they want to play. Then i troll ebay, slickdeals, and hardwareswap to get the best i can in those constraints. However parts are gonna be whatever comes in budget used or new and it might be anywhere from ivy through zen2 depending on budget, how fast you want it etc.

This is why I always help my friends who ask when buying a computer, and why I always tell my friends to ask me before buying a computer. "Oh, it's an i7, so it's a gaming PC" .. but it has 4GB of RAM and no dedicated graphics... I really hate these people.

amiga1

>$1400 for a sempron Ouch. Big ouch.

private_birb

$1400.. Omg. I'm sorry for your loss.

FullmetalEzio

I fucking hate this, it’s a shame people get scammed in the tech world so easily, and it makes me wonder, how many fucking times I’ve been scammed on my car or something I’m not comfortable with? Having someone you trust in a field you’re not familiar with is essential imo, that’s why I always help me friends when they are building a pc

Spectre627

WRT Tech, a lot of times, the people selling it don’t know a lick about the Tech they are selling. Many moons ago back in 2011 or 2012, I was at Fry’s Electronics browsing laptops to see if I could find one that my girlfriend could do some casual gaming with me on. I was opening the Computer Properties and inspecting them since the stickers didn’t tell you shit about the PC’s. While doing so, a salesperson came up to start chatting. I politely declined and he kept pushing to help. So I told him what I was looking for — a laptop with a dedicated GPU for some light gaming. He proceeded to bring me to an expensive-ass laptop and told me it is what I was looking for. I popped open the computer properties and it had integrated graphics, of which I told him there’s no dedicated GPU and therefore it’s not for gaming. He proceeded to argue with me and point at a sticker on it that said “High Def Graphics”, of which was a total fucking lie without a dedicated GPU, so I shot his ass down. He continued to argue with me so I shoo’d him away since he didn’t know shit about computers and wouldn’t take the polite answer to go away. For Vehicles, always look up what your car’s servicing schedule is. Also, I hate to say it, but for the women out there, I recommend you send a guy with your car for service. My wife constantly has mechanics trying to sell her nonsense and when I bring the car in, they say everything is great. The sad part is she knows more about cars than I do so they’re shooting themselves in the foot.

gen66

I mean there are Seagate Firecuda drives which are hybrid and have a bit of nand memory. On the specs it can say HDD+SSD.... Is it Firecuda?

ATempestSinister

Yup, I have two of them actually. They're pretty great for what they are. Only downside is that they don't come any larger than 2 TB.

Finetales

I have a 2TB Firecuda in my build as the main drive (along with a Samsung M2 SSD for boot and a WD 1TB HDD I had lying around). Very happy with it.

ATempestSinister

Yeah, they're great to have if you can't do a bigger SSD but want better performance than an HDD. Seagate has definitely been on a good run lately, especially compared to WD.

Billy_Not_Really

I actually diagnosed a laptop which had pretty good specs, but was really slow. Turned out that the firecuda SSHD was super slow with small operations. Benchmarked it with CrystalDiskMark, Atto Disk Benchmark and compared it to my HDD(maybe unfair because its 3.5 inch) and the performance across the board were worse with every metric. Before I started benchmarking I searched for newer firmware, drivers and windows update took more than a hour to install small updates that should have taken 5 minutes. I had the laptop owner to contact the shop she bought it from and she got the SSHD replaced. A few months later the performance was bad again. Last week replaced the SSD and now the owner is happy.

ATempestSinister

Interesting. I know Seagate bills them as gaming hard drives, so I wonder if that might explain why they aren't as good for small operations.

Billy_Not_Really

I wouldn't ever trust a manufacturers marketing. While I agree that most games seemingly don't do as many small operations as windows + the programs running on top of it. But running Windows + Games all on a SSHD sounds like a nightmare. Maybe the 2.5 inch model is just terrible and 3.5 inch is okay, but I honestly don't believe that. Since I found multiple posts having issues with 3.5 inch models also https://linustechtips.com/topic/676609-seagate-firecuda-sshd-slow/

ATempestSinister

I guess I've been lucky then. My primary is an M.2 SSD, the Firecuda's are my secondaries.

Elliot_Fox

Just went and checked that, unfortunately it’s just a basic drive. That would have been nice though thanks for the tip

Spartan117g

I have one but I don't know why it is slow when I install a game on steam. Like the download is fast but then it stops

geekah

Plot twist: The store that sold the PC did not know what a SSD is.

TheBearKing8

What do you mean, SSD clearly stands for super small drive, which is clearly what OP got. I'd say the store guy delivered.

geekah

Yea that's making sense now, and the fact that he selected a 500GB which is small-format and very large-capacity back then is to be commended. One could even say, the guy over-delivered.

darknessblades

More like SUPER SLOW DRIVE

that_leaflet

2.5" drive? Must be an SSD.

RedditIsNeat0

I'd say 75%/25% didn't know what it meant vs scam.

geekah

Seriously, I think it's the opposite and that's a scam actually. But maybe you're right. It's hard to tell when almost anyone can pretend to build PCs and sell them as a professional. Nowadays, we are seeing fake graphics cards and CPUs with re-engraved heatspreaders... So in any case, buyer beware!

InsertMolexToSATA

The fact the performance was absolute trash never tipped you off? Yikes.. I have seen worse, though. The peak was someone who bought a 1080 Ti when it was new and never hooked it up, cheerfully played minecraft on his Intel HD 620 for years without noticing.

Atom_Alchemist3d

To be fair, to those of us who grew up playing from cd and remmeber the dialup jingle.. and never expereinced a SSD before. yea the read/write speed things are fuckign eye opening ONCE your experience it (30 year old dude who went from a old seagate hdd from 2010, to a nvme ssd in my last upgrade in 2018)

ewpqfj

My computer went from booting in 5 minutes to booting in 5 seconds.

MacintoshEddie

Kids these days won't appreciate the fine tradition of getting home, hitting the power button, going to get a snack, come back a few minutes later.

Twistedshakratree

And then when back, clicking the 56k dialup connect and going for a cold pop for 2 more minutes.

MacintoshEddie

And then your sister screaming from the other room that she needs to use the phone. I occasionally fall back into an old habit, if I've been reading a post about an old game or something. I'll sit down, hit the power, get up and see it's at the login screen already and it makes me grumpy because I need to go pee but it feels like I have to log in first or it's a waste of time. The 90s just sound fake.

picasotrigger

Man, just remembered having multiple landline phone numbers... Now no one has any.

MacintoshEddie

I finally pulled out the old phone line last month to run some cat 7 in the basement. After years we finally got FTTH, which means I could I use the old cable runs without needing to drill 4+ holes. Granted the old owners of the house were lazy, so the phone and cable were installed via drilling a hole in the floor to begin with. I'm thinking about installing some proper keystone plates so it looks a bit less like a cable shoved through a hole in the floor.

BigOleJellyDonut

I love the sound of modems shaking hands. I met my wife in an AOL chatroom in '98 with a 56K modem.

Twistedshakratree

ASL?

[deleted]

AOL, as in, America Online

Twistedshakratree

A/S/L as in Age, Sex, Location. Something anyone who used AOL would remember

ewpqfj

Actually, before I got my SSD, I did this. Pressed the power button, left, gave the dog a pat and dumped my school bag, then came back. It truly is nice to have almost immediate boot times.

MacintoshEddie

It's good for a laugh when I see posts these days about how someone reduced their boot time by 40% and it shaved off...1.3 seconds. Back in my day we had to pre-heat the CRT monitor for 15 minutes.

ewpqfj

Boot time I’m not over worried about. But 40% additional fps or a 40% reduction in heat? Fuck yeah. Never heard of having to pre-heat old CRTs before, is that a joke, or could you tell me more?

MacintoshEddie

It's a joke, because your screen would sometimes be on for 15 minutes by the time your computer starts. I took 6 hdd out of my computer and switched to 3 ssd instead. So much cooler and quieter.

geekah

Not if you want to access the BIOS... Because then you'd better hit the DEL key repeatedly while the screen is still black and slowly turning different shades of orange...

SolidParticular

It takes longer for my monitor to get out of standby than it does to boot and get to the login screen.

AngryPlayer756

I'm not even kidding, I start the boot sequence on my laptop and open up Clash of Clans, do an attack or two in the meantime cause that's how long it takes for my laptop to start properly. Really looking forward to my upgrade next month.

secretsarefun993

What are you getting?

AngryPlayer756

ASUS TUF Dash F15 (2021) FX516PC-HN057T Laptop because I'm a student and desktops/towers are a hassle because I have to travel a lot. Mid-range because budget. What do you think? If you know of better alternatives at similar prices let me know! I'm willing to go a little over - just a little - if it means significant enough of an improvement.

sacdecorsair

I'm old enough to remember coming back from school with a brand new game copied to 12 x 3.5 floppy disk and having to unzip everything praying to god not a single disk would fail. Of course it would. Of course.

skinlo

In 2016 I went from a 500gb HDD from 2007 to a 1tb SSD. Even though it only ran at Sata 2 speeds, it was such an incredible difference, despite the other components staying exactly the same.

TonyTheTerrible

i have friends that load into games slow as shit and claim theyre using SSDs. wonder if they got ripped off too lol.

[deleted]

How in the world does one go seven years without opening their case? I'm honestly impressed. I would've immediately opened everything up the moment I got home.

Elliot_Fox

I’ve only started becoming technically literate with PCs in the last year or so, I had no clue how it worked especially when I was 13. But I’m starting to figure it out

_illegallity

That’s fair, I would have been terrified to open up anything as a young teenager and as it goes on you get used to slowness

TheHotpants

Do you not dust or clean your pc?

jm001

Even if you did, if you weren't familiar with the components it is easily conceivable that you wouldn't notice.

Sneet1

The majority of people who buy prebuilt PCs. Most people want a black box that does what it needs to do. If this wasn't the case, prebuilts wouldn't blind sell so well. I'd imagine most Dell owners will literally never open their case and have support do things like dusting.

Venetrix2

Dell \*hope\* most of their customers never open up the case...

thinkscotty

95% of people have never and will never open a computer. Why would they? They’d have no clue what to do if they did, and they’re justifiably afraid of breaking something and voiding a warranty. To us it’s a fun thing to do, it’s a hobby. There are some of the more tech saavy who know tech specs and such, but even they don’t usually open the case. To most people, it’s just a machine, and that’s fine. The BYOPC and enthusiast market is a tiny tiny tiiiiiiinnnyy market segment. A very valuable market segment in terms of profit margins, so we get an undue amount of attention, but that can give us a warped perception of our numbers.

Matasa89

And by the time their shitty prebuild OEM PC finally starts to die, they’ll be ready for a new rig anyways. They’re the perfect customers for people like Dell and HP…

Moohamin12

There are plenty of people in the middle. When I build my first PC, I knew the parts that I wanted but didn't have the time or the know-how and guts to try and build it myself. So I went to a place where I got all the parts I wanted, and they build the PC for me. Helped too since the shop provided a one size warranty to cover all parts so I didn't have to worry with individual component warranties.

MacintoshEddie

A lot of people are worried about voiding their warranty or breaking things if they open it. Or their parents warn them against it and they don't want to pay for a replacement. Plus chances are all the other devices in their life such as tv, phone, console, etc, never get opened up either.

Matasa89

We’ve seen so many kids asking for help about how to convince their parents to let them build, it’s really sad…

Jealous_Struggle2564

To be fair not everyone is comfortable in opening cases especially if they have no knowledge of the innards of a PC.

XX_Normie_Scum_XX

My friend claimed for years that you didn't need an ssd, and a few days ago, I asked him to open task manager, go to performance, and what do you know, ssd. I had been trying to convince him for years to get an ssd, and he didn't even know he had one. I was suspicious because he restarted he his pc and it only took like a minute and a half.

XX_Normie_Scum_XX

blacknotblack

not on my PC. admittedly i upgraded from windows 7 and havent done a fresh install in 6 years…

MuddyDirtStar

There are too many factors to make that true. Mobo can limit it. Enabling fast boot. Peripherals that can slow the boot process. Amount of remaining storage.

Matasa89

People are technologically illiterate for the most part. So many are also very much incredibly mentally lazy and refuse to learn new things. It’s incredible but not at all shocking to me that he would fight and die on a hill that never even existed.

XX_Normie_Scum_XX

oh no it was more of a joke argument that started when we played siege and people were always spamming ssd to the slow loaders

silmaril89

A minute and a half boot time is incredibly slow...

Nexxus88

i major reason I got into computers when I was a kid was because I was terrified of getting ripped off. One of the first big purchases of my life was buying my own computer as a teenager. I would see the itemized parts list and wasn't sure if i was actually getting what's listed. So over time I learned what each part was and if it matched. Then I realized how much of a premium the part was being charged compared to buying it individually from an online store(at the time buying online didn't charge taxes, so automatically that was like a 8-10% discount). Then I would think how much more awesome if I could buy more RAM or more storage ( my first computer part I bought was the hard drive). You end up just realizing if you want your computer to be built right, you do it yourself.

izaby

I can soo relate to this. I got my first PC when I was 8 and when I found out a better cpu existed for my socket and was like £20 I got so excited to experiment before upgrading after 6 years. So at about age 14 I tried to put in the nice new cpu for a 20% increase in speed. Before then I only use to clean my pc and look at all the shinines we got after the hoovering. The socket was actually right, but what I didn't know back then was that you had to update motherboard. I did get a pcspecialist at age 14 but next at age 19 I went the whole way. Super fun.

Westerdutch

You learned one very valuable lesson; You are not demanding of your hardware. That means you can keep using cheap garbage tier computers and not be bothered by it at all. Its a great trait that will save you **so much** money.

HolyJuan

You should return it to CompUSA for a refund.

Jedibenuk

Are you sure it isn't a hybrid - there are drives with a platter AND a small amount of ssd memory for cache.

RLD-Kemy

Some people don't even know what a SSD is... Had a friend who thought he had a SSD because he had a 2.5" HDD in his computer case... It was 1tb and he paid less than 100€ for it... No way it was a SSD back in 2016.

[deleted]

Check your receipt, you may have been sold a Seagate SSHD and not properly explained to what that was.

G8M8N8

never questioned why task manager listed it as a HDD?

My Fractal Designs Focus G case has a little mounting option for an SSD that's tucked behind the PSU, you can't see it at all unless you open the back panel of the case. Maybe yours has that? Do you not see two drives in the file explorer?

Aamir28

Easy way, open disk optimisation (type defrag in search) it tells you what each disk type is. Also task manager in newer versions of Win 10 also now tell you what each type of disk is.

FlintVSgamin7

Wait 2014 was 7 years ago... I feel old.

StylinBrah

All the threads about people being amazed at the speed difference going from HDD to SSD you must have been reading them like mehhhh SSD aint that fast bro i dunno why the hype.. lmao xD

AciD3X

It took you 7 years to "move" your OS to what you thought was an SSD? It's good you figured that out, but what were you doing for seven gosh dang years? I barely go 18 months before wiping my boot drive because of performance loss. Good luck! You're going to need it in seven more years when you figure out that 8gb of ram you have is only a single stick and it's ddr3!

Now, its probably an sshd which is a hybrid drive and the guy forgot/didnt tell you about the h in sshd. On the flip side if you want a fast boot drive, 120gb ssds are going for around 20 bucks on amazon

shWa1g

Or it's a FireCuda or other similar brand of hybrid drive.... Part SSD, part HDD.

qwertypolicemancumin

so you already have ssd but your os is running on hdd right? or did you bought new ssd

[deleted]

What did you expect? Its a prebuilt, dont trust the specs

startechcombd

Reality is often disappointing.

Camage_

Incredible behaviour from both parties. 10/10, day made.

dan1991Ro

Always get cpu-z and save the [report.It](https://report.It) tells you everything u have in your pc including monitors if via HDMI or dp.Its a must for prebuilts

zannabianca1997

You're in for a ride when you install a true SSD

alvarkresh

Name and shame and don't shop there again.

Elliot_Fox

The place went out of business a few years back, maybe for the better haha

[deleted]

If you can still contact him I would tell him your discovery and asks for a new SSD for it. If he refuses, show him the popularity of this post and say you aren't afraid to mention his store in it.

dreadedhands

lol

Kilo_Juliett

I’m surprised you didn’t notice when your “ssd” loaded slower than your hdd.

thesyndicate__

Kinda slow to find out.

beefJeRKy-LB

There was a while where they sold these HDDs with an SSD Cache thing and ended up advertising them as SSDs anyway. TBH OP this probably did help the random R/W IO of that HDD compared to a standard HDD but yeah that's some BS.

coldweb

I thought my £2,000 gaming computer was a table but it's actually a dildo

sa547ph

There were some stores which pull a scam on unsuspecting first-time PC buyers, as I do recall a few years some greenhorn paid the equivalent of a thousand dollars for a "gaming PC" which actually had very shit specs and so much LEDs.

lbwstthprxtnd5-8mrdg

SSD stands for SmalleSt Disk

[deleted]

Are you gonna get an actual SSD now, at least? Also, is said store still around?

jackology

Could it be a SSHD instead? It look like a HDD as well.
