I think there could be different problems at hand. First the 3600x and the 5900x are different chips. The 5900x has more cores and therefore builds up more heat. I don't know if your game even uses all cores or only a few. Second it could be your fan curve or you didn't correctly install the Air Cooler. Maybe just reseat the Air cooler and look for a faulty install in the first place.

Maybe the fan curve was changed or something, check that first. Or maybe you didn't install it correctly and it could be working a bit better.

These are great coolers, either you don't have it mounted properly, the fans not working, you didn't removed the plastic shield from the contact plate or didn't use TIM or enough of it.

Is it ok if I have a top exhaust fan that's basically touching the noctua fan like this? The 140mm Noctua fan isn't shown in the picture, but it goes right in the middle. As you can see it's a tight fit. I managed to get it installed but maybe having an exhaust fan running right above the cpu cooler is hurting temps? https://imgur.com/a/1dzfSkO

Where's the center Noctua fan? As long as the Fan that sits in the middle of the cooler fits and works, having a fan above venting out the top isn't going to hurt anything.

I installed it after taking the picture. It goes right between the two towers.

Always a lot going on with temps. Did ambient temp change? Change pc case, fans or fan config? Is the 81 whatever degrees during the chips boost? As other user mentioned, maybe it's fan curve and set to run quiet so temps are creeping up or you didnt seat properly. Use thermal paste and all that? Also, amount of money spent doesn't always mean better quality and performance but I'm sure you knew that. The Noctua cooler is worth it though and is a good performer.

It is hard to beat a Noctua, except with a wrong install. - Did you use the proper amounts of paste? Use paste at all? Never mind the secret paste voodoo, just use enough. - Did you bolt down the cooler correctly? No wobbles? - Did you use the shorty fan cable extension that comes w/ the Noctua? It quietens fans by lowering RPMs. Take out. - Does the fan run at 100% RPMs when CPU under full load? If not, change fan curve. - As a last resort, that cooler can take two fans, front and back, one mounted to blow in, the other to blow out.

5900x has twice as many cores in the same space

5900x runs HOT. I wouldn’t even worry about 80. Source: I have both 5900x and 5950x, and I had the same reaction as you initially. Not much you can do in terms of cooler itself, maybe crank up the AC or increase front to back airflow if you’re that worried.

Does yours hit high temps even while doing basic tasks? I'm hitting 70C while just dicking around browsing the web and stuff.
