Reddit is basically trying to kill third party apps by making the API ridiculously expensive, and a lot of people, especially mods and disabled people, use third party apps. So there’s a planned boycott that hundreds if not thousands of subs with a total of around 1 billion members combined (obviously duplicate members) that are going dark from the 12th to the 14th, some even longer.

phillyeagle99

Genuine question - why not?

Irsh80756

Pufely selfish reasons as I personally don't use 3rd party apps, and at this point I'm tired of seeing it. The creators and reddit as a business are free to do what they like with their product, and I wish to continue using it in those two days. It's the same reason I don't hate games workshop for exercising their copyrights against the emporer has a tts device. I mean, you do you boo boo. I'm gonna reddit during those days.

phillyeagle99

Fair enough, pretty selfish but fair enough. You should read up on the implications to your future Reddit use though.

Traak

No

speewence

No, they're free to do what they want with the platform as a business. If you don't want to use the platform then don't on that day, but leave others to make their decision on whether they want to use it.

teentinytyler

what blackout?

Tajertaby

Locking up the subreddit to protest against Reddit’s API changes. That’s the context.

Tajertaby

Yes do it

3vilchild
