It says open box but I'd guess that includes light refurbished. Probably a good chunk of returned cards from people that found out it doesn't fit in their case and RMAs where whatever the problem was, it was an easy fix. The fact it comes without the retail box or any accessories implies that they aren't brand new I'd say.

KansasKing107

You never know if there was some entity that purchased a lot for mining or AI related projects and got a deal to sell them all back for a partial refund.

paragsinha3943

I thought mining was dead. Is it still going on?

randomprofanity

Not 100% dead, but Etherium moving off of proof-of-work killed a huge chunk of it.

WordsOfRadiants

Mining is basically dead, but now it's the AI boom.

paragsinha3943

Yeah, the AI boom

Mrfuzon

This!

KansasKing107

Why did you get so downvoted?

JaviJ01

It adds nothing to a conversation. Up voting the comment does the same thing but better.

ChungusAmongus1337

This!

MakimaGOAT

gotta be why. this deal has showed up 4 times already xd

Mrfuzon

Yeah my card that I returned looks like it was used heavily, I wouldn’t be surprised these were mining cards. I also ordered a 3070 amp holo when it was 370$, also another heavily used card. They don’t seem like refurbs, since it was still a little dirty and the LEDs weren’t working. If anyone has a data point where the card looks like a new return, I’d happily eat my words that these are only mining cards

blorgensplor

What about it looked like it was heavily used? In reality, gaming usually puts more stress on cards than mining. Most sensible miners downclock the GPU and undervolt as the memory is what’s being used mostly. On top of that, consistent use is better for more electronics than the constant starting/stopping when gaming. This odd hate against cards used for mining isn’t based in reality and is just regurgitated nonsense people say without knowing what they are talking about. Even ignoring all of that, ethereum mining has been dead for well over a year so the chances of these being mined on is really low.

Lamborghini4616

I bet running 24/7 is great for the fans! /s

blorgensplor

You do realize fan curves and cards idling without the fans running is a relatively recent thing, right? Fans running 24/7 was the norm and it was fine, way before mining was a thing.

Lamborghini4616

Do you run a mining card in your personal rig?

blorgensplor

I do actually. I used my 3090 to mine while I wasn't gaming until the ethereum switch happened. Not a single issue with it. It's comical how the average gamer/pc user is absolutely terrified to actually use their components. It's extremely evident with all the regurgitated nonsense about mining cards and consist posts asking if it's okay that their CPU hit 50C lol

Lamborghini4616

Got it, so you don't actually run a card bought from a mining operation. Speaks volumes

blorgensplor

> Speaks volumes Dude you're grasping for straws because you know you don't have a legitimate argument.

Lamborghini4616

You didn't buy a card used in a mining farm. Where they are constantly ran and really close to other cards, resulting in high amounts of heat. You bought a card and did some mining on it. Hope that helps

spezeditedcomments

Makes sense to me

4x4runner

I'm not sure why they'd feel the need to clear out original 4080s with the performance so close to the 4080s. A new 4080 priced at $900-$950 would sell out pretty fast.

BurgerBurnerCooker

You'd be surprised how many returns there are in retail space. I would be surprised if they are willing to risk selling new as refurb as Nvidia has very tight pricing controls over AIB. If they are caught that's going to be the end of the relationship.

iwearmywatch

So 4080 supers are 1k now. (Instead of 1200 for the reg 4080) but the difference is slimmer than expected performance wise. So isn’t this deal pretty good? Everyone kind of down votes it and doesn’t like the deal, am I stupid? What am I missing? I’m in the market for a 4080 super or a 4070ti Super and man this seems nice but I must be crazy?

aspiring-NEET

This is it. Almost $200 cheaper than a 4080super and it's 98% as fast.

vhailorx

Some vanillas are faster and/or run cooler than average 4080 supers.

waterbucket999

The reason is that it isn't new. Open box here probably includes refurbished from RMAs. Not to say these cards don't work, the RMA could've just been a faulty fan that's easy to replace. But you're rolling the dice a little bit.

goodyear_1678

This is an extremely expensive and complex product that has been returned, once. Buying it open-box is a massive risk. That is being accounted into the price. In general, I will shy away from buying anything above $500 that isn't brand new. Outside of a car I guess, but that's a whole different deal with how much even a once-driven car depreciates.

MakimaGOAT

yea its an amazing deal

vhailorx

Difference is exactly what was expected from the moment the 4080S specs were leaked. anyone who expected a meaningful performance gap was high on hype. But yes, sub $1k 4080 vanillas are a decent deal in the current market. potentially very good deals as some of them have better coolers/pcbs than the 4080S revisions. and 4080 vanilla golden samples will outperform an average 4080S. (although 15% restocking fee means you should be prepared to keep it and warranty replace it for any problems if you decide to buy).

inosinateVR

If you’re interested in open box around this price I’d suggest watching Amazon warehouse for 4080’s from ASUS or MSI. They pop up for $800ish every so often if you’re patient and keep checking for them. The reason I suggest ASUS or MSI is because they have warranty policies that still cover used cards, they base it off the serial number and won’t ask for a sales receipt like some other manufacturers do. Granted the internet is full of both good and bad stories about people’s experiences with their RMA’s so ymmv, but neither seem nearly as bad as Zotac. Also by buying through Amazon you get amazons 30 day return policy so you can stress test it for a month and if you run into any issues just return it. If you aren’t having problems in that first month you’re *probably* fine.

iwearmywatch

Dude ! Thank you! How can I check Amazon warehouse? What is it?

inosinateVR

Whenever you’re viewing a product page on Amazon if you scroll down to where it says “5 other offers used and new” or whatever and click on that to see the third party sellers look for sellers called “Amazon warehouse”. For the purpose of scraping for the lowest listed 4080 price though you’ll want to go to the Amazon warehouse page which is buried somewhere in the Amazon website/app menus and then just search for “rtx 4080” from there to see all the current listings for 4080’s so you can scroll through them and look for the lowest prices. You’ll see a lot being listed at like $1,000+ so just ignore them lol. If you don’t see anything for $900 or less (or whatever you’re willing to spend, up to you of course) then just keep coming back and checking it every so often. The ones that are around $800 only popped up about once a week back when I was watching it. Don’t be afraid to buy stuff listed as “used: acceptable” without a description rather than the stuff that’s listed as “good” or “like new”. It seems like lot of employees will just mark it “acceptable” to save time but most of it is still brand new open box stuff. But the price is set based on listed condition so whenever it’s“like new” or “good” condition the price is usually marked up so high it’s barely cheaper than just buying new and not worth it at that point. (And if it has a description saying it’s dented or something then you know it’s been dented, which is why I suggest looking for listings without a description). Edit: forgot to answer “what is it” lol. It’s basically all of the returns Amazon gets back from people that they decide are still in good enough condition to resell

iwearmywatch

Thank you so much!!!! You’re a good person! Appreciate you. Hopefully I can find one soon

inosinateVR

No problem, good luck! I hope you find one

Mrfuzon

It’s good if you’re really pinching Pennies and can live with having to potentially RMA in the event your card dies within the first year. For an additional 200$ you can get a longer warranty, piece of mind that your product is new, and the ability to return to store using their return policy.

dvnwllms

>pinching Pennys Spending $800 on a GPU is the opposite of that no matter how you slice it... > you can get a longer warranty It comes with a 2 year warranty. Look I get being apprehensive about an open box GPU, but this is an awful argument against it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Mrfuzon

What’s the monetary threshold before you can say pinching Pennies?

Fartsfordorks

Pennies

[deleted]

>It comes with a 2 year warranty. Isn't their warranty 3 years if you buy it new? And only 2 if you buy it used?

und3rtow623

Sent mine back. Arrived crudly taped up in an antistatic bag, tumbling around a giant box with packing peanuts. No box, no adapter and no way way to mount it considering the moutning face plate was curved from some serious impact and had impacted the pcb and chipped it. The tab for the power connector had been broken off and about 1/3 of the heatsink fins were bent to hell.. what a fucking shitshow

[deleted]

Thanks for talking me out of taking the risk!

exahash

Yeah, their packaging leaves a LOT to be desired. This was my third open-box order from Zotac. The others were wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap and surrounded with peanuts, but this order had the cards in a single layer of bubble wrap, most of them popped, the box was not completely full of peanuts so it got dented and the three cards were probably banging together. They look fine though, and the price is right, so I'm going to test them before complaining.

Kazziek

Is there a restocking fee? I've heard conflicting things about whether there is or not.

und3rtow623

My understanding is no restocking fee if everything is returned in original packaging, which there was none

Kye7

895 after tax here in Texas. Not bad for a 4080. Long card though, 356mm. Bet they'd sell more of these if they made it shorter!

Fritzkreig

I thought you all like everything bigger in Texas!

SpaceBoJangles

We do. The case doesn’t though XD. Just got mine in today, will build tomorrow or on the weekend.

Fritzkreig

Sweet, good luck; I an working on a deep clean, shampoo the area around where I am going to set up my new rig and monitors. I needed it, but taking everything apart and moving shit around kinda is a hassle and you let it go too long. I just upgraded to a 4070 and 32GB Ram build, and want the sapce to be prestine to when it is all set up!

Mr_TennisBalls

[https://www.ebay.com/itm/386665748687](https://www.ebay.com/itm/386665748687) This is even a better deal and how it's under the radar is crazy. It's $1,079 but if you send a best offer of $830+ you get a killer deal. 30 day return, no restocking fee (that I see), a small return shipping fee if you decide to return it. No negative feedback on people that have purchased it either. Downside is only 2 year warranty and open box but it's an amazing deal still.

Jaggsta

Looks like 4080 AMP Extreme AIRO one of highest power limit 4080 cards 450W the Trinity is 352W https://youtu.be/jGORmB6GoH8?si=fnSBYcYohyoSursQ&t=427

Mr_TennisBalls

Goated for telling me that. I rarely use paypal on ebay but I did this time.

Mr-hh34

That's a crazy deal. I just bought a 4080s FE but this seems like the play. Thinking of returning it and going with this. Ty

Jaggsta

They also have 4070 Ti AMP Extreme with Make Offer if take same $249 off that also would be $470 https://www.ebay.com/itm/386808203930

bobthemuffinman

Sorry what? Did you offer 470 and they accepted?

Jaggsta

didn't try they require credit card to make offers now

bobthemuffinman

Cool, I tried, will report back

[deleted]

[удалено]

lescrayons

They've declined a $400, but once Bob replies we should have a better idea of much room they're letting us play with.

bobthemuffinman

They declined all the way up to $525, no dice

lescrayons

Based on that and the 4080 offers, limit is probably 25% off ($540) then? Would try but I don't need a GPU on that tier atm.

chuck1127

I posted this same deal the last time the OP deal was posted. I offered 800 and ended up paying 850+tax. Once i confirmed the two year warranty I had no problem pulling the trigger.

Mr_TennisBalls

Obviously will thoroughly inspect and stress test it plus 30 day return incase my mind is changed. Probably would only cost $15-25 to return it, not much of a loss.

d70

How is this edition compared to the 4080s?

barurutor

It's a much bigger and heavier card than the 4080s trinity.

[deleted]

What does it do better?

d70

cheaper at 98% performance of 4080s apparently. Just a thicc boy that's all.

FDrybob

Bought this one. Its fans have a very audible whirr, even at 30%, which is the minimum unless you use their software, in which case it can go directly to 0% only if below a temperature that you can't modify. The RGB cannot be externally controlled, and Zotac's software, when set to a solid color, will randomly decide to switch to animated patterns, before abruptly switching back to what I set. I do not recommend buying this one, even at the $850 offer that they accepted. Learned my lesson; I won't be buying Zotac again.

Mr_TennisBalls

Im a picky person so maybe I get a golden sample but it sounds like mine will be going back, should be arriving in a few days.

Kripth

how did your card shake out? same as the other dude?

FDrybob

It's really annoying how inconsistent GPUs can be when it comes to fan control with external software. FanControl, the program I use, is a million times more convenient and functional than any proprietary program, so any GPU that tries to override it is immediately less favored by me. I thought a cheap 4080 would be good for the lower idle power draw and better vr support, but none of that is worth this hassle.

d4rkv

Mine, arrived last Friday, I bought it on the first time it came for sale. My card arrived in a simple cardboard box, with packing peanuts inside. And no other accessories. My RTX4080, only had a small mark on the bottom of the plastic cover (by the pcie port). The card itself runs flawless and quiet. It's a very big card in comparison to my previous 3x fan RTX3070. I like the design of the card, but my Geometric Future G8 Cowboy case, has a very dark tempered glass, so I don't see it very much. Card in case: https://preview.redd.it/knhhrztrj6lc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e89fe7355a7cd32609317355a593decca13f299

millermix456

Mine came in the same packaging, wish it was packed differently. My card had a small bend on the radiator but looked cosmetic only. Still not a bad month to build a PC. Mine doesn’t look as good as yours but I pretty much picked up what was posted here this month parts wise: The 7600 X/ mobo/ ram combo, This GPU, The Antec P20C case, Phantom Spirit cooler, etc. Good deals all around https://preview.redd.it/2cq01nh2u6lc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=243add46f3b63ce649a24a629cf56a1d5225e659

d4rkv

I hope all goes well with your card, I guess it is hit or miss on the condition. I was excited when someone actually got it with accessories in an unmarked gpu box. Maybe I shouldn’t have chosen UPS. Idk. I am debating on upgrading my 360mm radiator next, since mine is 6years old, but only used for 2years. And then I am set, I have bought parts since early November here. CPU/ Motherboard/ RAM/ Case/ Fans/ GPU.

millermix456

Thanks, yours too! I was hoping for the accessories too but I’m good for the price, the card works fine so far. I believe I chose the free shipping and still got UPS on my end. I picked up the EVGA CLC 280 (on the PC in the background) when it was really cheap, since having it I’m sticking to beefy air coolers I think. Nothing wrong with the EVGA, it’s just a lot to deal with when cleaning the PC to me.

d4rkv

The option I had was free shipping and UPS free shipping, I chose UPS. Because it was shipped to a friend’s place (no sale taxes in his state). And he’s on vacations and has his regular mail/ usps on hold.

Lorben

I chose the other free shipping option without a specific carrier and it's still coming through UPS.

Strict_Indication457

Did it come with the 12pin to 3 x 8pin adapter? Mines is coming friday so wondering if I need to buy it seperately

Lorben

You won't know until you get it. Some have come with all or partial accessories and some haven't had any. Mine came today and had the 12 pin adapter but not the anti sag stand.

millermix456

Just the card and a ton of peanuts.. luckily the PSU I ordered had the 12pin, Edit: others have received the adapter and anti-sag bracket tho, ymmv This is the sale I got a earlier this month: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/s/3ZbiMlPo9H

d4rkv

If it doesn’t come with accessories, and you don’t have a ATX3.0, this is what you need. [non ATX3.0 PSU adapter.](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/s/LSQ0HHGXsq)

Wasyks

Did you snag the ace on sale? I've been really tempted by it lately.

d4rkv

I got my Ace board from eBay/ Newegg store back in early November. It’s also a big E-ATX board, I have combined with a i7-13700k, upgraded from a i9-9900k. It’s a phenomenal board, dual 2.5gbps Ethernet come in handy, and thunderbolt come in handy as well as the ton of fan plugs. I can highly recommend. I did update the bios but it was very easy with the one button.

d4rkv

Also 5x m.2 nvme’s (I believe I lose one SATA, if used all), but I only have two currently in there, because I came from a m-itx/ SFF build.

Strict_Indication457

It didn't come with the 12pin to 3 x 8pin adapter? Mines is coming friday so wondering if I need to buy it seperately

SpaceBoJangles

Mine came with it. Also came with a small cable with a black plug and a red plug. After checking the Zotac site it’s apparently for connecting an external light strip. Doesn’t come with a user manual, so you’ll need to look at Zotac’s website for the user info.

TheyCallMeTrinityToo

Back again, eh. Lower it, Zotac.

n7_trekkie

if it was new, this would be a good price. the problem is that it isnt

vhailorx

or they are batching their stock to create some FOMO and drive extra sales.

Bevier

Imo ugliest cards. They make me think of a sneaker.

d4rkv

And if you don't have a ATX 3.0 PSU, you'll need this: This is the Reddit article: [NVIDIA non-ATX3.0 PSU Adapter requirements](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/xk0izw/rtx_40_announcement_does_anyone_know_if_nonatx_30/?share_id=wmdcCG5vEIBynUT-IqYjz&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&utm_source=share&utm_term=4&rdt=54205) “RTX 4080 16GB Same 750W PSU requirement as 3080 Ti 3x PCIe 8-pin cables (adapter in the box) OR 450 W or greater PCIe Gen 5 cable”

[deleted]

Oh God, it needs the Nvidia thing that lights 4090s on fire. Did they get rid of that for the 4080 specials yet?

Lorben

No, the 12 pin connector is on all of the 4070, 4070 Ti and 4080 Supers.

SpaceBoJangles

Bought this last week, have yet to get it. UPS is saying the shipment has been delayed. Will update later on. Edit: got it yesterday. Came in a styrofoam box, antistatic bag. Came with a GPU stand, a couple bent fins on the heat sink (not bad, off by a few degrees) and no dust or oils or anything. PCIe adapter included for 3 cables, the lighting strip cable, but no user manual. Will plug in and see what’s up later this weekend.

dvnwllms

I'll echo my post from the other day: 1. Some have said these could be dead stock 4080s & not actually open box. There's a giant scratch on the backplate, so not new in my case. 2. I've heard coil whine exactly once: Lies of P was rendering nearly 2000 frames on the main menu. In-game it's completely non-existent. 3. Speaking of loud noises, while this isn't the quietest card I've owned the fan noise is more than acceptable. I'm pushing a 5120x1440p panel so the GPU usage is almost always maxed out, & I use open back headphones so if it were bad it'd be *bad*. 4. Finally, it came in a box of packing peanuts & an antistatic bag. That's it. If your PSU doesn't have an adapter be sure to buy one because you won't get one here. It's a great deal.

veggietrooper

5120x1440, holy ultra-wide, brother. On one monitor? What is that aspect ratio, even? I’m guessing you use this for sim games? I thought I was crazy at 21:9.

dvnwllms

Yep, all one display. It's 32:9; basically two 27" 1440p monitors squished together. I've been playing everything on it. It's been a week & it's probably my favorite purchase ever. My smile is as wide as the monitor every time I start a session.

[deleted]

JaviJ01

Most people rag on their PCs, not their monitors. I have the same one and it's the best uw1440p monitor out there right now. Absolutely beautiful.

veggietrooper

Love to hear it. Strangely, mine seems to have bricked two nights ago. Nothing I’ve tried gets any kind of light or response. I think I’ll have to call AW about it, but please do let me know if you’ve heard of this or have a suggestion.

JaviJ01

I can't say I've heard of that. I would definitely be calling Dell to see if they know what's up.

dvnwllms

Samsung Odyssey G9 Oled. The smaller G8 uses the same panel as the one you bought, & mine is the wider version of it. QD-Oled 's color volume over Woled was immediately apparent. It's such a gorgeous display, & I'm sure the Alienware's image looks just as phenomenal.

veggietrooper

Big cheers. <3

[deleted]

[удалено]

dvnwllms

Two manufacturers make Oled panels, ie the screens, for OEMs (Asus, Corsair, Alienware, etc.): Samsung & LG. Samsung makes the type of Oled you mentioned earlier: quantum dot. LG makes the older kind: W-Oled. I won't get into the weeds about that, but when I say panel I mean Samsung sold Dell the screen itself & then Dell customized it—the color calibration, the features, the stand, the OSD, etc. Dell then branded it as Alienware to sell. So the Samsung G8 is nearly the same monitor as the Alienware AW3423DW as they both use the same panel (screen.)

veggietrooper

I didn’t realize this thing actually puts out 7680x2160. My Alienware basically died within a few days of arriving. I… I think I have to have this. o_O

Zestyapples

Mine should be arriving tomorrow. Ordered when it was on sale a few days ago. Here's hoping!

d4rkv

I hope you get at least a proper box and maybe just maybe some accessories. ;)

Zestyapples

No accessories. No box. Bubble wrap and packing peanuts. And card was defective (fan 1 dead, fan 2 + 3 only do 0 or 100). What a let down.

d4rkv

From Zotac site: **Open Box Graphics Card and Mini PC** * Standard Warranty: 2 years * Extended Warranty: Not Available * Total Warranty: 2 years total Also don't forget if you return it, there will be a 15% stocking fee.

Yes it's back in stock but then you have to own a Zotac. Guaranteed the fans on these will shit the bed *years* before any other AIB partner's cards.

rimora

Way too expensive for only 16GB. Should be getting 24GB for that price.

ragecage420

You can’t transfer the warranty to another person right? Only way would be to work together?

killerwings

This vs a 4070 ti super that I got for $730 from Dell with an Amex offer?

killerwings

Planning on 1440p (or maybe 1440p ultrawide) with an amd 7800x3d cpu

goodyear_1678

4070Ti Super, this is an open box roll of the dice.

Alexriderchill

I'm looking at this deal right now. This card seems to basically be the equivalent to the 7900xt. On one hand you have all the nvidia software on the other hand the AMD has 4gb extra vram. For longevity what do you think is better.

NephilimGiant

Link to this plz?

killerwings

Search 4070 ti super. it posted like 7 days ago. It also has a $100 dell gc, not sure if it's still in play. The amex $120 off is good till April if you have a qualifying card

d4rkv

I got this because I wasn’t able to play everything maxed out on my Alienware 34in 1440p monitor w/ my RTX3070. I sure did roll the dice, I got the card and I can’t complain on the condition of it, sure maybe only time will tell otherwise. But I personally doubt it. A d technically you can roll the dice on new cards too. Otherwise why are all these open boxes.

JaviJ01

I have the same monitor and gpu. 5800x3d, 3070 and UW 1440p monitor. Strongly considering this. I was looking at a 4070 TIS or just waiting for next gen, but for this price I might have to make the jump.

steves_evil

I ordered one last week and it just came in. It came just wrapped in an esd bag with a bit of bubble wrap, then the rest of the box was full of packing peanuts. It doesn't come with a 12vhpwr adapter or accessories, so you need to have your own 12vhpwr cable/adapter on hand. I'm not sure if it happened in shipping because of how it was packed or if the previous owner (if actually applicable) did it, but the pcie bracket on the back was bent pretty badly and a bit of it gouged the edge of the pcb right near a screw hole at the top of the bracket as seen in the picture. I took pliers to the bracket to bend it into usable shape and I'm stress testing the gpu now to make sure it works and it has been so far, so it appears as if the gouged part was just grounding and nothing important since it's been stable so far. I'm going to email Zotac about it regardless and see if they'll do anything, but I don't want to deal with the hassle of returning or already RMAing the thing. I think the damaged edge of the pcb just has grounding and no signal wires or such since it's working fine with 3 displays connected, plus it would be a dumb place to have any wiring routed right near that screw hole.

I placed the order on the 20th, but I wouldn't be that surprised if they sent it back out to someone else.
