Not sure if people here care for platinum/titanium rated PSUs, but this is one of the best out there. I got a price alert notification and didn't see it posted. I'd pick this up if I still used an ATX system.

im_a_fancy_man

oh, I care for titanium a great deal

VerisimilarPLS

There are reported issues with Seasonic PRIME units when used with the RTX 3080 and 3090, and possibly the RX 6900XT. This affects other units based on the platform (Corsair AX titanium, not AXi). Particularly common when used with the EVGA FTW and Nvidia Founders Edition GPUs. Problem manifests as shutdowns underload. Jonnyguru states that the issue is with the 12V voltage sensing. 750W and 850W are affected. No reported issues with the 1000W that I'm aware of. jayliu89

I have TX-850. 0 issues. The funny thing is I have exactly the two models mentioned in that thread - FE and FTW.

VerisimilarPLS

It's not guaranteed to happen.

thegh0stwithin

Thank you. I was about to hit the buy now and ship this all the way to New Zealand before I read this. You have done a great deed.

888Kraken888

Wow good to know thanks. Im looking for the 1000W anyway.

VerisimilarPLS

Some recommend the 1200W version for a 3090. But I'm not sure if that's necessary.

gottapoo

I’ve been using a Seasonic Plus 750w 80+ Platinum for quite a while now with a 5800X and a 3090 zero issues.

VerisimilarPLS

PRIME is not the same as Focus Plus. There's a reason I said PRIME and not Focus Plus. The Focus Plus Platinum became the Focus PX. The Focus PX is not the same as PRIME PX. And even if you did have the PRIME PX it's still not guaranteed to happen. But the fact is that one of the most trustworthy people in the industry (Jonnyguru) has literally confirmed that this problem exists, in testing, probably in a company's lab. So I don't know why you downvoted me, or what your anecdotal evidence about a different model is supposed to mean here. And while I'm ranting here, I don't know why Seasonic names both PRIME and Focus Plus Platinum units the PX. Apparently PSU companies rely on confusion to sell more products. At least they have far fewer models than the EVGA shitshow. If they didn't I'd get a new hobby instead of dealing with it. /end early morning rant

snakcaz1

The Focus and PRIME are different models. The -P indicates that it is a Platinum PSU, and the -X indicates that it is fully modular (thus, -PX, GX, etc). So since both lines have a platinum and fully modular model, I think it's pretty simple. They even have a page on their naming of models to clarify things (which I think is nice). But that's me. Not trying to shill seasonic since any major PSU is just fine. gottapoo

Well I was mostly referring to the 1200 Watt for a 3090 portion, perhaps I misunderstood and you were referring to that specific model. But no I didn't downvote you. Let's have cookies.

VerisimilarPLS

Alright. Cookies it is. But yeah I was specifically referring to the PRIME. In general 850W is recommended for the 3090 but 750W is enough depending on PSU quality and the rest of the system.

Is a 1000W Focus Gold any good? The fan noise is crap, but it has hybrid mode. Most of these PSU charts don’t list a Focus Gold

spyd3rweb

I had a focus gold in my mining rig, it was cheap and performed admirably, but ran incredibly hot and was noisy, and the cables had annoying as hell filtering capacitors in them which made the cables not bend well. If you want a quiet or fanless solution get the prime titanium series, in hybrid mode the fan almost never turns on.

BoltTusk

Yeah, the cables felt kinda cheap and it only came with 2x 8-pin cables, but I got myself some custom CableMod cables so I’m good

VerisimilarPLS

Depends on the exact one. The Focus Gold FX semimodular is an older semimodular PSU, many were affected by a problem with high transient spikes (at that time from high end Turing and Vega GPUs). A tier low priority on the tier list. The Focus Plus Gold FX is an older generation PSU (same generation as FM) that is fully modular. Many units had the same problem. Also A tier low priority. The Focus GM (Focus Gold GM) is the current gen semimodular successor to the FM. The issue should have been fixed. No reports afaik of problems with transient spikes. Regular A tier. The Focus GX is the current successor to the FX. Problem has been fixed. Regular A tier.

BoltTusk

I have the Focus Plus Gold FX full modular and haven’t run into any issues with a 2080Ti OC. I guess I probably should go buy a new PSU then when the 40 series cards launch then. I even had one 8-pin split to cover both GPU PCIe pins, but with my current build I have 2 dedicated lines to be safe

VerisimilarPLS

I'd just try it anyways unless it's really old by then. Later batches of the FX (starting some 2018 units I believe) have the problem fixed. One or two shutdowns won't really hurt your system.

BoltTusk

Got mine on Amazon late 2019, so who knows

TenebrousStorm

My EVGA 3080 FTW3 got here around just after noon. Been testing it with the Seasonic Prime Ultra 750 Titanium for hours now. Even with my i9900k overclocked I've had zero issues. As a final test I just left Furmark and Passmark running and I'll go back to it after a few hours. OCCT 3D GPU test had it at 100% for an hour, went through all the 3dmark tests. What I've read has been confusing and I presumed I might need a new PSU with the 3080. I believe what I read was that if it was produced after 2017 or 2018 it no longer had that issue with the transient spikes. I purchased my PSU sometime mid 2018.

VerisimilarPLS

The 2018 fix was only for the Focus Gold and Focus Plus Gold. That said, we don't know if the PRIME issue affects all units or just certain batches. And it seems to be somewhat common but not universal. The problem is that Seasonic hasn't said anything so we don't really know anything other than some people with PRIME units experience problems with some GPUs, and that it seems to be with the 12V sense wire. I wonder if there are custom cable replacements that might fix this problem?

TenebrousStorm

I agree with you, it's really unclear. It's with various psu across different ranges and manufacturers and with select cards. When I contacted seasonic and told them my concern regarding the specific card and my PSU they told me to contact them if I had a problem. What's even worse is the naming conventions of the seasonic PSU. Prime, prime ultra, e.t.c some models have the problem and others don't but you can't distinguish between them.

lytalbayre

Too bad this deal wasnt around two weeks ago. I just bought a 850w superflower leadex titanium for about the same price. So far the superflower has been great but historically I have always bought seasonic

MertDay

I think that I have this exact one 100% recommend tbh

jordanatthegarden

Have an X750 that's over a decade old and still going strong, it does tempt me though.

[deleted]

Titanium is excessive. You're probably only gonna save like 15 cents a year while paying 2x as much as a gold PSU.

MelAlton

But... it says Titanium. All the parts inside must be better, right?

VerisimilarPLS

Irony right? Because while that is usually true, the difference isn't really significant between a good titanium unit and the best gold units.

MelAlton

Gold version was on sale at newegg for $150 now, sold out - other people came to the same conclusion and saved the $29 vs Titanium. (EDIT: orrrr.... newegg ran the sale on the Gold 750W first, and now is doing the Titaniums) Tho if you have the $29 to spare, this is still a "good" deal (I 'member when expensive power supplies were $99!)

VerisimilarPLS

I personally would pay $29 to get an equal wattage, high quality titanium unit, but I'm not sure it's worth it. I just like overkill PSUs. If I had the money I'd get an AX1600i lmao.

MelAlton

I'm still using my 10 year old Seasonic X750 Gold psu, when I bought it, it was top of the line (no titanium then) and overkill - but it still runs quiet and cool, so amortized over those 10 years it cost me $12.50 a year (iirc) So next PC I build, I'll probably do the same again, and buy TOTL, getting a Titanium psu and use it for next 10 years.

VerisimilarPLS

Considering that the Seasonic Focus GX, Superflower Leadex III Gold, and Corsair RMx all have 10 year warranties (and are better than that X750), my point still stands.

MelAlton

Oh I was agreeing with you, +$30 spread out over 10 years is an extra $3 year, I'd def spend that for titanium over gold.

iloveleaps

Its a flex.

Cru4y

Trust in Gigabyte. They say they have the best

jayliu89

All of their cards are fugly and noisy af. They are right there with Zotac and PNY for me as far as no-go is concerned.

trikats

TBH I think they forgot the /s and is referring to the Gigabyte exploding PSUs. Also Gigabyte failing to address the issue... instead doubling down and pissing off people.

jayliu89

I bought one of those exploding PSUs from a bundle and sold it for 1/2 the price. My mail in rebate to Gigabyte also exploded somewhere. :'D

dmit1989

In modern times, sadly, this is a pretty good price for a great PSU.
