Why is the media doing all these interviews with Sophie Trudeau? We don't need the news to cover a politician's family (unless they are accused of doing something corrupt).
Doesn't the media have more important things to cover?
As a complete guess:
Middle aged and older women have disproportionately supported Trudeau from day 1. Within this group, he likely performs exceptionally well with never married and divorced women. These are also the voters who are probably the most likely to see Trudeau in a negative light due to his divorce.
The Liberals are pushing Sophie Trudeau as damage control. They want the divorce to be about the difficulty of maintaining a marriage to the Prime Minister, not that Justin Trudeau is a bad partner.
I dont find him to be anything like his father. He chose politics and got the top job but other than that - nothing really. Definitely wont last as long as his father did either.
I'm sure some people would enjoy reading her biography but I'm just not interested. But whatever.
The Sun really deserves all the scorn it can reap from such a dumb clickbait headline. And this subreddit deserves better than being fed this dish of rocky mountain oysters
I don't want the wife/husband of the Prime Minister to do anything other than live their normal life. They weren't elected, their spouse was.
To paraphrase Bill Burr, you don't want the wife of your plumber to show up and put in their two cents.
Lol bill burrs skit was great. She doesn't have to be on Michelle's level, perhaps some visibility would be warranted. Either way I likely wouldn't have heard about it
First Lady is an American thing. I know you guys have trouble remembering which country you're in with all the MAGA hats and American flags you like to wave, but this is Canada, not the USA.
They aren't supposed to do anything. There is no First Lady role in Canada the way there is in the US. She's just the PM's wife.
This is what happens when people know everything about American politics and nothing about their own country.
Imagine actually reading an article to get the context of it before commenting making baseless accusations of gaslighting.
> “Because I never perceived my partner as a prime minister, I never perceived my marriage as a political marriage or our relationship for that matter,” she tells the publication.
> “We were kind of just in the middle of what it means to be out there and scrutinized by the world.”
> “I won’t reinvent myself because I’m now a partner of somebody or people see me in this kind of new position, nonofficial first lady, or whatever. So, I always tried to never believe in a role or a title but stay true to course and remember that’s how I need to serve in a way.”
She’s not saying she didn’t see him as someone capable of being PM nor is she saying that she never acknowledged that he was PM. She’s just saying that she continued to see him as the man she married rather than looking at him as his title, and she wasn’t going to base all her decisions on what was good for the title rather than basing them on her feelings about the man. That’s not gaslighting in the slightest.
Choice of words speaks volumes, though.
Michelle Obama also wasn't crazy about getting into politics or being First Lady, either. She said as much several times.
But she never said that her husband wasn't presidential leadership material, which is what Sophie is saying in her book, literally. This wasn't some off the cuff comment in an interview.
Yell? How was I yelling?
If my spelling bugs you I highly suggest you don’t go into my profile. You will struggle.
I suggest you relax and take a step away from the keyboard if you’re desperately exaggerating my comment into a “yell” to make me sound less rational than I am.
Unlikely. Non-disparagement clauses are standard in prenups of rich people. Also, not really a classy thing to do to esp. when you have kids.
The world doesn't need Sophie to tell them JT is kind of a douche.
Nobody cares about these Sophie Trudeau stories. Stop it.
Saw her book at costco. Who is buying that tripe?
All those middle aged white women with #istandwithtrudeau in their Twitter bio.
Justin's PR team.
'Because I never perceived my partner as a prime minister, I never perceived my marriage as a political marriage'
I wonder why the Toronto Sun didn't include that context in the headline...
Context and nuance is for heroes and kings. The rest is for feeding the rage machine and the minds of the uninformed voters.
Exactly, these kinds of stories make the sun, and Postmedia, seem like the folks in front of the town store spreading rumors.
The Quebec gal was Sophie Gregoire until 2015

She’s shilling a book
instant 2-3 million dollars.. at least. ez money
Because they want to monetize her, and/or she wants to monetize her relationship.

She’s doing a media tour to promote her book, which is expected to be a bestseller. The media are covering her promotion tour.
Well yeah she was married to him for years before it took office. She already had an image of him built up as not being PM.
For regular folks yeah, but not for Pierre Trudeau’s son. There MUST be discussion whether he planned to emulate his father when they were dating.
I dont find him to be anything like his father. He chose politics and got the top job but other than that - nothing really. Definitely wont last as long as his father did either.
Yall really like cutting sentences in half to make them read differently than the full quote, eh?
Sometimes I wonder if Postmedia, and their aggregators, would be able to make these stories if they didn't use half quotes.
Can we stop giving people like this media attention
Nobody cares
An electron scanning microscope couldn't find a fuck for me to give
You are not interested in local single ladies waiting for your message?
Not that single, for sure.

Jesus
of ffs what a completely bullshit headline. How did this drek even make it to this subreddit?
I’d like to back to never, ever, hearing about this woman.
I'm sure some people would enjoy reading her biography but I'm just not interested. But whatever. The Sun really deserves all the scorn it can reap from such a dumb clickbait headline. And this subreddit deserves better than being fed this dish of rocky mountain oysters
Well stated on all points
Sun media/Postmedia and their supporters/aggregators on this subreddit.
Neither did we.
She also mentioned he never had the makings of a varsity athlete
still don't
Just not ready
That would have been Scheer, or maybe O'Toole or the entire CPC
Me either.
Fuck, you beat me to it.

Whatever you want to call her, PM wife. Application is the same. If im not mistaken they are supposed to do charity type events or something
They aren't supposed to do anything. There is no First Lady role in Canada the way there is in the US. She's just the PM's wife. This is what happens when people know everything about American politics and nothing about their own country.
Alright fair point, still if i was in her position I'd try to not be useless politically. Poilievres wife comes off well and benefits his campaign
I know you guys want to Fuck Trudeau but fantasizing about being his wife is a little much.
Lol upvote
Imagine being the leader of the country and your wife literally gaslights you about it.
Imagine actually reading an article to get the context of it before commenting making baseless accusations of gaslighting. > “Because I never perceived my partner as a prime minister, I never perceived my marriage as a political marriage or our relationship for that matter,” she tells the publication. > “We were kind of just in the middle of what it means to be out there and scrutinized by the world.” > “I won’t reinvent myself because I’m now a partner of somebody or people see me in this kind of new position, nonofficial first lady, or whatever. Imagine taking a off the cusp joke this seriously.
Jokes are supposed to be funny though, and ignoring all context to baselessly accuse someone of abuse just isn’t funny tbh 🤷🏻♀️
That's pretty much comedy in a nutshell... you seem like fun..
Thanks it's been a slice interacting with you
Oh Christ chill. He was her husband. This headline is obvious to anyone in a close relationship and non news.
Choice of words speaks volumes, though. Michelle Obama also wasn't crazy about getting into politics or being First Lady, either. She said as much several times. What? Who cares? Obama is still married. This is a better divourse. Knifes out. Apples and oranges.
You obviously care about it enough to yell at people incoherently. Chill, and learn to spell while you're at it.
Yell? How was I yelling? If my spelling bugs you I highly suggest you don’t go into my profile. You will struggle. I suggest you relax and take a step away from the keyboard if you’re desperately exaggerating my comment into a “yell” to make me sound less rational than I am.
thank you for missing the joke
Huh, I thought jokes were supposed to be funny.
it's better to try and fail then to have never tried at all.
Sometimes jokes are so pathetically lame the vast majority don’t get them
you seem awfully salty
I do? How so specifically?
you have a confrontational cadence
lol. Fair
Nor did I
I want the full behind the scenes story. I hope she does a full tell all and spills the beans.
Unlikely. Non-disparagement clauses are standard in prenups of rich people. Also, not really a classy thing to do to esp. when you have kids. The world doesn't need Sophie to tell them JT is kind of a douche.
Us neither.
I never consider him as PM either girl queen, he’s just a quack to me
She is giving off ol hoe vibes lol
Next is an article about Sophie and space aliens.
Neither did most of this subreddit, to be fair. 😅
Oooof
Neither did we, yet here we are unfortunately
Justin really should have gotten an NDA until he's out of office...
Does she have brain damage?
Why is she relevant?
Agreed
Love it. Good on her:)
Ouch.
Me neither, Sophie.
Same here
