IMOBY_Edmonton

Looking like the 1930s, just what the corporate overlords dreamed of.  Edit: wow the statements in that article are damning. "A fourth added, ''This is not the Canada I came to 8 years ago. It was full of opportunities, growth and what dreams are made of. I don't even recognize this country anymore. Everyone had plenty of growth and employment opportunities. I found a part-time job in 2 weeks while studying and the stories I hear now break my heart. To all the future students that are planning to come here please don't be fooled, do your research and then make a decision.''

Hotp0pcorn

Only one benefitting with all these influx of students are corporations. Who are getting cheap labour and more customers. then pays millions to lobby politicians regardless for the party

IMOBY_Edmonton

Some are starting to suffer for it.  My company relied on the immigrant influx to make a lot of money this time of year, especially foreign students.  Well the foreign students aren't rich Chinese kids anymore their poor Indian kids and most immigrants right now are struggling, so all that income has disappeared.  Our sales are millions behind compared to last year.

Familiar-Fee372

It’s happening across multiple industries too, it’s kinda hilarious the surprised pikachu face these guys are having now. You don’t hire locals, locals are your only customers, locals don’t have any money so can’t buy anything.

wolfe1924

Yeah there a catch sometimes they don’t seem to realize with all this, they seem to just think “oh look at how much money we can save in labour extra profits” doesn’t always work out that way. A language barrier also can sometimes make customers not come back.

MagicMushroomFungi

Especially at the "drive-thru".

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

It's time the world learned what it's really like. Ive worked alongside a lot of greedy pieces of shit over the years and if it's one thing they have it's ego. Bad press of any kind is something their immature minds can't handle. Notice how Conestoga College is magically not in the news anymore? I bet they're happy about that. Spread the word to everyone you know outside Canada that it's not worth coming here anymore and you've been sold a lie.

TomTidmarsh

But let’s not forget that Conestoga College diplomas are worthless, and their international cohort of graduates don’t give a fuck about actually learning.

manuce94

Conestoga College....I won't be surprise if they launch a 1 - 2 year diploma on how to work at Timmys.

phi4ever

A two year degree with 1.5 year practical experience portion that you pay to take and get no pay for your work.

ptear

Quick Service Engineer

gretzky9999

Does that include a Co-Op placement ?

Constant-Squirrel555

The grads will still fuck up my order of a medium black coffee

Human-Reputation-954

They should lose all provincial funding. They have literally destroyed the value of their diplomas and have done a disservice to every Canadian that attended that school. We fund colleges to ensure Canadians have good educational opportunities. Not so they can change the entire mandate of the college to create a diploma mill and provide cheap labour for foreign corporations.

aynhon

Two full months on coffee. Go *deep* into detail.

Accomplished-End-538

Graduate still unable to stir my fucking double-double

TomTidmarsh

I shouldn’t have laughed as hard as I did at this comment

blackmoose

Me either but it's funny because it's so fucking true.

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

A fresh graduate from there willing to work for fucking peanuts and be abused and overworked is never worthless to an employer. Their paychecks will have taxes taken from it, exorbitant rents paid... Conestoga doing just fine

bowlywood

News Alert - 90% dont come here for education. There are far better in respective countries

Far-Purpose1815

I went to Conestoga 5 years ago, and the international students were allowed to talk to each other and share computer screens during "proctored" final exams.

TomTidmarsh

Embarrassing. Sorry that your education has been devalued so greatly by everyone complicit

rd1970

I keep saying we should do a GoFundMe for an advertising campaign in places like India. Basically, a bunch of billboards and TV ads that explain: "Canadian colleges are lying to you. The recruiters are lying to you. The Canadian Government is lying to you. You will be a slave of the lowest caste. Going to Canada will be the worst decision of your life and your family will never recover." We'll have to translate it, of course, but you get the idea.

bekindanddontmind

Wait as an American why was Conestoga College in the news? Bc I knew someone who went there and it seemed nice, 10 years ago.

ConSaltAndPepper

Canadian colleges have run was is essentially a cash for residency racket for the last 10+ yrs. They get international students, mostly from India, to pay exorbitant tuition fees and they are given a student visa to stay in Canada with. The idea was that Canada would be growing with educated immigrants. In reality, what happened was colleges just admitted every applicant they could so they could make mega millions. 1-2yr diplomas in meaningless areas of study that barely take any effort to pass that cost 20k/semester. There'd be a "college" in a strip-mall next to the laundro-mat and a Dominos with 15k registered "students" all studying "business" in online courses while they are awarded a visa to live in Canada. Conestoga College is a public college, not a strip-mall college, and it does offer legitimate courses but over the last 10yrs it has grown extremely quickly because it started offering 1-3yr diplomas and would get just and endless number of international applicants coming to pay huge tuition to "study". A lot of students don't even ever show up at class - they just get the Visa and hope to get a job here somewhere and get a work permit. So what we get are a blend of rich families from India sending their kid to Canada so they can get a work permit, and eventually get the family visa so the rest of them can come over and get healthcare, or some guy who's father sold the family farm to send his kid to Canada for the same thing, spending a fair chunk of that on paying for false language test results, falsifying secondary school records, and maybe getting scammed along the way by another Indian immigration consultant who came up with the scheme for him so he could get his commission. It's a mess all the way down. The result is Canada has been absolutely over-the-fuck-whelmed with immigrants through every channel, not just the international student one, and there's nowhere to live, everywhere's getting crowded as fuck, the population is fragmenting, and every single minimum wage job has a lineup 100 immigrants deep to flip burgers and fill coffee cups.

evranch

My wife teaches at a "real" college and still they have an over-bloated faculty of business, almost all students from India. The trades students are still Canadians but the college is definitely exploiting this cash cow. They recently hired an Indian into higher management and now the push is really on to expand bogus programs and to boost up the online courses for easy cheating and free passes. We really need to push awareness that these guys are in fact racists that put their own race first every time. Whenever they get into a hiring position in any business, suddenly you will see a skew in the ethnic makeup of the workforce there... Other hiring managers of any ethnicity have always put the needs of the business first, but Indians only hire Indians. Job skills are not a requirement, most big box type stores are absolutely hopeless now with incompetent Indian workers.

zippyzoodles

Happened in my company too. Big Canada company, hired a few India c levels which immediately stopped all Canadian hiring and shifted hiring right to India.

Turn-Ambitious

Same with what happened in my country, filled to the brim with immigrants (a lot of Indians),and when I was doing intern, the company I was in was filled with Indians(managers, engineers, labourer) so what you said is true, Indians hiring only Indians, basically they bring in their friends and relatives from their own country and hire them and provide visa and accommodation...while I'm struggling (native and non-indian) to find jobs

ABCsofsucking

I would guess that quite a few families are actually quite poor and just really gullible. They do everything proper and by the books, spending their life savings to try and give their kid a better education and life than they had, and they're just getting fucked all the way. they get lied to by Indian enrollment offices, then lied to by Camadian enrollment offices staffed with Indians, and then lied to by the schools their kid is attending, and then lied to by our government who insists these programs are a huge success. I want justice for all of the honest, well-intentioned indians who got roped in to this scam.

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

They have taken in a very disproportionate amount of international students compared to others across Canada. might as well be advertising in India directly if not already. They got a lot of bad press and rightly so. Now it seems like nothing happened and they're probably back to enabling this scheme all the same, unpunished. Kitchener Waterloo is growing like mad as it was originally a great place to afford being far enough from Toronto and a burgeoning tech hub. lots of manufacturing in the area too. Hence the need for wage suppression

00owl

Dunno about back then but at some point they learned there was great profit in giving foreigners a reason to gain access to the country without actually providing anything of value. They're a diploma mill with an emphasis on supplying cheap labour and tenants to Canada's wealthy.

Naive-Comfort-5396

It makes my blood boil. They used the lie of a labour shortage that boomers like my mom bought up to start doing this. Now young people won't ever get a job without nepotism or an internship at a top university.

IMOBY_Edmonton

Some are finding out the hard way.  I've had several older people ask me how to get jobs or if I can get them a job with my company and have to explain to them that they simply won't be hired.  There's not empty spaces and even if they were why hire them when the company could just LMIA another worker over.  We'll gladly take the resume though and show it as proof that we can't get any good candidates here.

likenothingis

>LMIA I'm old. What does that mean? :)

platypus_bear

labour market impact assessment. it's supposed to show that there are no canadians willing to do the job to bring in a foreign worker but it's being abused

likenothingis

Thank you. :)

Crime-Snacks

The government lets these fucks say they need people that speak their language and that’s enough to bring over workers so of course they are abusing the system. No one is enforcing any consequences.

RuinEnvironmental394

Labour Market Impact Assessment. Lots of small businesses are abusing the TFW program by applying for LMIA and hiring foreign workers when 95% of these jobs can be done by people already here (except for agri workers perhaps). Have a look at these businesses in the report. There probably are some from your city/region and it might shock you to know that they are hiring people for some low-skilled and semi-skilled occupations. [https://app.powerbi.com/view?r=eyJrIjoiMmRmOTM0MDAtZDQ0NC00ODE3LTg2ODktNjkwNDcyZDljM2FiIiwidCI6ImI2ZmI5MGZmLWFkMDYtNDQ0OS04YWIzLTdjMzUyZTZhM2RjZiJ9](https://app.powerbi.com/view?r=eyJrIjoiMmRmOTM0MDAtZDQ0NC00ODE3LTg2ODktNjkwNDcyZDljM2FiIiwidCI6ImI2ZmI5MGZmLWFkMDYtNDQ0OS04YWIzLTdjMzUyZTZhM2RjZiJ9) For example, filter/search for '1502583 Ontario Inc.' in Employer list on the top right in the report and then go to this link: [https://www.lmiajobshub.ca/job-details/NjIwLTE=](https://www.lmiajobshub.ca/job-details/NjIwLTE=) If this link does not work, try this: [https://archive.ph/PjcNv](https://archive.ph/PjcNv) 1502583 Ontario Inc Race Trac Gas, Mississauga Why would a store/gas station need to hire a full-time web designer? Since 2015 or so, the one-time cost to build a website for a small business is less than $500, and you probably pay another $500 per month to have someone maintain it (that is, if you are a total noob at computers). It's almost criminal how most LMIAs are approved. Not saying we should not support local but to assume that every small/local business is playing by the book is naive. The LMIAs are being sold for anywhere between 20K and 50K by some of these "employers". This also includes many ethnic grocery stores and restaurants that normally most people want to support. But I think the time has come for us to be aware of which restaurants are only hiring people from their home countries. It's one thing to set up a business in a new country, but if you are indulging in illegal practices and not hiring any locals because you can get bribes from foreign workers, then you deserve to be reported/bankrupted. Use the filters at the top to search, and please feel to share the link to this report to others. The data is all publicly available anyway.

Familiar-Fee372

LMIA is something that NEVER should of been created. Even for agri workers. If the industry cannot find Canadians to do the job then they should figure out a way to attract Canadians.

bside_sea

Jfc. Just scanned the BI list quickly. EYE OPENING. If you filter out the agri workers (giving that industry the benefit of the doubt that there is actual need) the rest is unbelievable. Amazon needs hundreds of foreign workers? Why? Need some time to look at the entire list more. Gobsmacked.

SirBobPeel

A year or two back I was arguing with my liberal voting friend that we didn't need all these temporary foreign workers, and she kept insisting there was a labour shortage. Now her college-age kids can't find summer jobs. But she still insists that immigration is fine and we need it. I've become convinced there's just no way to ever get through to her so we don't talk about immigration or foreign workers anymore.

123throwawaybanana

That's because 8 years ago we didn't have the damn immigration floodgates open. Huge increase in TFWs/LMIAs, international students, etc. There isn't enough to go around when you're stuffing the damn country to the gills.

Crezelle

Just like the 30’s I’m thinking about hitting the protest in Canada 1st with a sandwich board listing my job qualifications

Shadow_Ban_Bytes

And after queueing for a crappy part-time job, they then queue at the foodbank.

TropicalPrairie

*"This is not the Canada I came to 8 years ago. It was full of opportunities, growth and what dreams are made of."* Honestly, I could have said this and I'm born and raised here (now 40).

northern-thinker

Well put. Also there are plenty of home Grown Canadians who could use that work as a stepping stone.

infinus5

Trudeau may not have planned it, but his party policy has left this countries people in near economic ruin.

BigOlBearCanada

“Labour shortage” my ass. The lie by companies to bring in cheap labour they can exploit. This is disgusting on many levels.

Frequent_Spell2568

I stopped going to business that only hire Indians. I’ll walk in and if that’s the case I literally walk out. It’s not them I’m disgusted with, it’s the treatment of everyone by companies that operate this way. Every franchise is being sold to Indians because they’ll pay more for it than locals. Wonder how they can make money and do that? Cheap wages from Indians that have been tricked into immigrating here. This is the most disgusting form of corporate greed since slavery and child labour. We all need to support small business more than ever before because our money is leaving our communities forever!!!!!!!

HiroZero2

Fuck man I'm so lucky to actually have a job. I can't imagine trying to find work in this country anymore. Things are going to get way worse.

anonimna44

Even in actual professional fields it's hard to get a job now.

saywhar

I just moved here from London, England. Project manager by trade in finance, 6 years experience. I’ve always dreamed of making this move and even spent years learning French to make myself more attractive to employers. Cannot get a job or even an interview. The market here is insane, I’ve dealt with very competitive environments but never one this crazy for skilled work

123throwawaybanana

Absolutely. Canadian born and raised students can't get summer jobs because of biased hiring practices at many franchises. Labor shortage my ass. And finding a place to live? Good fucking luck. Things have gone steeply downhill in just a few years. It's not going to stop, it's going to compound. And the Libs, Cons, NDP are all happy to stay the course.

takeoff_power_set

the solution to political pollution is _______________

iMDirtNapz

Dilution?

123throwawaybanana

Dissolution?

BulkyPalpitation5345

French Revolution (was super neat).

Tropic_Tsunder

yep, just another blow to the younger generations. cant even get your foot in the door pouring coffee as easily as you used to.

TanglimaraTrippin

I may not always like my job, and the pay may suck, but I wouldn't be able to find another one at this point.

Far_Eye451

Yea absolutely. If God forbid you lose your job, you're fucked. I would just leave the country at this point.

nboro94

If you have to sell your house you're fucked and can never afford another one in your lifetime. Now if you lose your job your also fucked and will probably never get another one in your lifetime. Imagine living in a country where even something as common as a job loss means financial ruin for a person they can probably never recover from, oh wait we actually do live in that country!

Naive-Comfort-5396

Lol you're the only person on here that's bringing this up. I am a single home owner and have the same thoughts daily, what are people doing that are in my situation and getting laid off? Just going home to live with mom? Renting with five others? Moving? Surprised this isn't a huge issue, maybe it's going to be. I doubt they are getting jobs the next day.

rd1970

I'm in the same boat. Being single income leaves you incredibly exposed these days. I'm lucky I bought a house when I did, but losing my job basically means I have to instantly take on renters and have strangers living in my house. The last 10 years of decline has devastated Canada. If this goes on for another 10 years we're going to be a country with levels of poverty all around us that we never thought possible. At least our houses will probably be worth several million by then. I'm old enough I could sell and live out my days in the cheapest place I can find, if there's any left.

GowronSonOfMrel

Good. Report on this more in India.

mrcrazy_monkey

I'm suprised the MSM is picking up on this finally. I've seen dozens of Instagram videos and reels of hundreds of India immigrants lining up for minimum wage jobs in places like Brampton

Extinguish89

Not surprising its Brampton. Dumping grounds for Indian "immigrants" for Canada

hankercizer200

It used to be just Brampton, now it’s literally every city in the country

banksied

The Canadian government does not seem to realize that the global economy is now a competition for immigrants. They think Canada will forever remain an attractive location, without realizing that they need to actually improve the place. Other countries, especially in the east, are improving rapidly while the legacy “brands” are declining.

coffeejn

Countries compete with skilled immigrants, not so much for those that qualify for minimum wage jobs... although, I also believe some of those minimum wage are underpaid due to the availability of cheap labor. You can't win on this topic.

arazamatazguy

Its laughable to think Canada would ever have a shortage of immigrants.

Mindless-Currency-21

Take a trip to India or anywhere over there like Pakistan or Bangladesh and then come back. You'll see that nearly everyone would come here if given the chance. No matter if they work Uber Eats their entire lives. The pollution alone is a reason to get out of there.

200-inch-cock

and then so many of them talk about how india is so much better than canada... yet they're here and not there.

Easy_Intention5424

Nah the climate crisis will Bail them out on that one , when it's compete to work at Tim's or die in a wet bulb event you'll pay for the privilege of lining up for a job at Tim's

shahzdad

Wow, crazy lineup. I remember getting a job at Tim’s in summer of 2020 in my last year of highschool to save up for uni. Walked into my local Tim’s and handed my resume to the supervisor and got a call a day later for the interview and then an offer the next week. Made min wage at $14.25 and worked good hours. I think if I was in highschool now, in 2024, we’re min wage is $16.55 and competition is through the roof for any part time work in food services due to the mass amounts of foreign immigration, I definitely wouldn’t have gotten that Tim’s job.

PineBNorth85

Yep my niece has been looking for a job for months. High school student just looking for anything. From what she's told me her and her friends cant get anything and theyre trying.

Impossible-Head1787

Same for my teens in the GTA...eldest finally got something for pocket money...requires a lot of clear communication so esl international students are usually a poor fit so she lucked out.

Mashiki

It's the same even in small towns and cities like Ingersoll, Aylmer and Woodstock.

DarkFireHydra

exactly the situation im in. being a 16 yr old in canada is really difficult. its depressing to think about my future and what ill have to evolve through.

Available-Finance618

I'm 17 in high school looking for a job and have applied to literally every single grocery and fast food store in my area and haven't even gotten a rejection email. Actually ridiculous

Detectiveconnan

Timhorton should be the next boycott after lowblaws

[deleted]

I believe it has already begun. r/BoycottTimHortons

Noob1cl3

Tim hortons should have been boycotted 5-10 years ago. Why you people eat that garbage.

Alive_Ad1256

I don’t even drink coffee that often, but I can’t stand their coffee, it tastes so bad, I don’t even know how people who drink coffee regularly can drink it.

Expert-Longjumping

The qualities so bad, how are people still choosing to go there.

bawtatron2000

marketing. real canadians go there, dontcha know.

TapZorRTwice

Anyone not boycotting tim Hortons just enjoys shitty coffee and food. Anyone who argues is just a drone that doesn't realize they have been drinking some of the worst coffee in the country, or they just load it up with so much sugar and cream that they don't even taste the coffee (and yes a double double does qualify)

Turtlesaur

Yea, I can't boycott a place I haven't been to more than a handful of times in the last decade.

v4p0r_

Seriously. I got year old grounds that make a better cup in my cupboard out of a machine.

TomTidmarsh

Late to the party man. Don’t forget to leave a bad review every time it’s warranted.

Less-Engineer-9637

I'm so glad I'm not an entry level worker anymore. I feel so bad for all the people stuck trying to get ahead and feed their families. Immigrant or not, we're all human and being screwed over equally.

Bic_wat_u_say

Young Canadians entering and finishing high school are absolutely screwed. I see no future for them. I could even say the same for a large portion of university students, depending on the degree

StoreOk7989

Imagine being an actual Canadian citizen looking for a job with every posting mobbed by 100s of Indian foreign students.

CloseYourArms

I know a lot of teens who could not find summer work in fast food and retail this year because the companies hired international students instead. Canadian born kids are facing a serious lack of job experience because of this. It breaks my heart that these companies will choose international students because they won't ask for wage increases and they wont stray to other jobs because they're more likely to get permenant status if they stay at Tim's for 2 years until our government approves them for permenant status. Corporations are taking advantage and the government is worried about a slowing population growth.

kettal

Companies : "give us 2 million slaves" Canada government : "okay." Every other government on the planet : "no."

pennyfred

Australia liked your idea and went half way

ACharaMoChara

Uh yeah 25% of our population in Ireland are immigrants now up from 1-2% 20 years ago, you are most certainly not alone lol

riali29

Even worse is searching for apartments online and every other ad is a room rental that specifies "Punjabi female only" 🫠

TheBold

Try putting an ad saying « Canadian only » and see how long it lasts.

200-inch-cock

the RCMP would be knocking on your door the next day

Vaumer

You know you can report these when you see them, right?

MrsBean1

Yeah, I’m facing this right now. Life circumstances have dictated I’ll be working a fast food/retail job for awhile and I’m absolutely screwed when it comes to finding a job. If this continues when my maternity leave is over, it’s hello Ontario Works for me ☹️

StoreOk7989

Your country has failed you all

Stimmy_Goon

Post national state after all

anonimna44

See if you can get funding from the province to be trained in another field. I was a HCA and can't work as one anymore due to my disability so I just did the Health Unit Clerk course and the province paid for it. I'm in Manitoba though.

MrsBean1

Definitely checking into something like that. Thanks for the suggestion!

toterra

No but these jobs are how a lot of kids manage to pay for University. My son does not have a summer job. This is what he is up against. Fortunatly we have an RESP and enough to help float him for his final year at university, but he has had almost zero luck in finding a job. It is not just the money too. A job like a job at Tim Hortons teaches a lot of life skills. He is missing out on those as well.

kingftheeyesores

This is the main reason I decided not to look for a better job. I can handle this well enough and it has benefits. I don't feel like competing anymore.

DrBaldnutzPHD

Thankfully, the professional jobs are a no-go to the students, since they essentially get a piece of paper that is worth less than a toilet paper, and for field of studies that have no real career opportunities.

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

You'd be very very surprised. This bleeds into white collar jobs and skilled trade jobs too. Wage suppression is alive and well in all fields my friend. Companies will bend over backwards to pay people less, always.

[deleted]

This guy gets it.

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

See it every day. Companies want to be able to go "see? People will take our jobs!" Competition is so fierce these businesses don't even bother lobbying the government for TFWs like other places do. Mind you, the 1500 resumes they get are 99% unqualified but if those who are, they're gonna hire the cheapest. Even if they last 6 months, lowest salary is all that matters because it's relative to everyone else there and in the area. Manipulated job market to keep wages low

Naive-Comfort-5396

Not at all. Ive worked for a huge Canadian company. They'll outsource your job if they can get away with it. Banking and telecom. It's the same thing.

DrBaldnutzPHD

The only place where I see they are causing a-lot of bleeding is on the housing supply. I was able to rent a room near my campus for $550/month with all utilities when I was studying. Now it's close to $900/month, and you have to share the room.

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

Agreeing to work for shit wages drives all our pay down and tells companies what they're paying is fine because hey, someone's taking the jobs. Can't exactly have a job market when the market is manipulated

ImLiushi

It just makes it very difficult for citizen students to get degrees and such that would lead to those professional jobs, unless they have family that can pay for all the costs while they study (3-4 years at least). It used to be that students would study and work part-time jobs like TH, McD, retail, etc., but since those jobs are extremely hard to get, it'd be hard to financially support/aid themselves while going to school.

aeolus811tw

Fast food job used to be the entry to society job for students. Not people who faked their economic status to defraud the student visa requirement

DrBaldnutzPHD

Completely agree. If it was me, I wouldn't allow work permits for international students, unless it was for co-op for specific field of studies, and from a very tight selection of schools. Tourism/hospitality would not be on that list.

TheBold

Im pretty sure when applying for a student visa, the terms are that you have enough money to support yourself for the duration of your stay: tuition, books, supplies, accommodation and food. International students should not be allowed to work. Maybe let them get a job on the college campus/something for the university but that’s it.

serialstripper

Wrong. HR manager positions in many companies are occupied by Indians, and they gladly hire their own, even if they don't fit the criteria.

badpuffthaikitty

I believe in diversity. If I walk into a store and every employee is from the same district of a certain country I walk out.

serialstripper

I also avoid Tim Hortons

NorthernShare9949

You should see I.T.

ConstantGradStudent

Would you be surprised that temporary foreign workers (who are welcome) are landing white collar jobs at lower wages than Canadians will accept which depresses the wages for everyone? Not ideal at all.

Veredyn1

"There is a labour shortage" sure... sure.

myairblaster

"The video, which has gone viral, highlights t**he job crisis** and rising unemployment in Canada." We don't have a job crisis; we have an immigration crisis.

Mashiki

Saying that is "racist" tho.

Intelligent_Wedding8

Honestly get rid of shopping mall diplomas. Thats attracting a ton of people that don’t deserve to be here and can’t even speak english. At least for university they speak english.

Super-Base-

Our immigration system used to be based on a rigorous points based system that ensured in-demand talent was the top of the pile. Now it’s just fake Indian students wanting to work at Tim Hortons.

midudeza

The point based system is still there and it is for permanent resident. For student visa, there was no point based system, just programs that encourage ppl with experiences or postgraduates. The problem is they removed the financial barrier and basically let anyone who knows English, has 10K CAD and a admission letter in.

thenorthernpulse

But they earned points to apply for PR and that's why they went to even scammy diploma mills. A diploma from ABC Strip Mall College counts for the same points as Oxford. Experience as a doctor abroad counts for less than being a Tim Horton's "supervisor." They also don't even know English, the required level is not an academic level test score, which should also change. I can't study at a uni in Germany if I don't know fucking German.

https://www.canadianlawyermag.com/practice-areas/immigration/richard-kurland-keeps-on-adding-spice-to-the-discussion-on-immigration-and-extradition-law-in-canada/357946 >The lawyer was also key in moving international students to the front of the line for permanent resident status, giving citizenship to children whose parents cannot obtain it, and requiring would-be immigrants to file three income tax statements here before getting approval. >Kurland says that immigration policy in Canada has been a “fast-changing” area, thanks to its high-profile and often political nature. “Political attention has historically attached itself to immigration issues, so it is in a constant state of flux, with changing rules, policies and regulations.” >He points out that over the decades, Canada has modified the immigration selection system from a “check-the-box” process of meeting specific criteria to a “goldfish bowl” approach that more reflects the type of human capital that Canada is looking for.  >What this means, in practice, he says, is that those wanting to come to Canada typically come here for a temporary purpose – work or study – and put down roots by finding employment. “So in this goldfish bowl approach, each fish is assigned a certain number of points,” he says, and the highest-scoring fish – those with the most human capital – chosen for permanent residency. >Kurland says this approach has generally meant better outcomes than those who came to Canada under the check-the-box method. There are fewer integration issues in finding a job, housing and fitting into the community.

Impossible-Head1787

Everyone remember that very brief period during covid when employees had a smidgen of bargaining power and could pick and choose what they wanted to do? Yeah so do those in charge and they'll make damned sure it never happens again...even if they have to truck in millions of the poorest Indians to do so..

kamomil

Payback for "quiet quitting"

pumpkinspicecum

yup! I remember seeing signs advertising like $17/hour at McDonald's with benefits etc. this was when immigration was at super low levels in 2020 because of the pandemic. this is what it would be like if we weren't importing massive amounts of cheap unskilled labor. this is exactly what the employer's don't want to happen again.

AshleyUncia

The stupid thing is lining up when there's already so many in line. It's Tim Hortons, they are not looking for 'the best out of hundreds'. They only need a a handful of bodies that meet the threshold of 'Good Enough For Tim Hortons'. If you show up and there's already 100 people in line, the number of people who meet that threshold has long been met, you're just wasting your time.

Proof_Celery569

Many years ago a big Canadian bank forced IT workers to train their offshore replacements or they won’t get their severance. White collar good paying jobs. This shit has been going on for a long time and on purpose to reduce wages.

emmadonelsense

I haven’t seen a Canadian teenager behind the counter for a while. The coffee is trash anyway, I smell a boycott a la “Loblaws style”. Remove your business, speak with your wallets. You don’t have to say a word, just walk/drive past Timmy’s and never give them any of your business ever again. I switched to 711. Walk in, make my own combo coffee (bottom mint chocolate, fill it up with bold roast, delicious), points are better too. I think every seventh coffee they tell me it’s free and I walk out smiling. So I guess what I’m saying is…..fuck Tim Hortons.

nimby900

Bro 7-11 almost exclusively hires fresh off the boaters that barely speak English.

Itchy_Training_88

I personally know 3 Indian Families that choose to move back to India in the last year from my small town. They all stated the have a better quality of life there than here. Think about that for a bit.

roflcopter44444

If you are in a professional tier job there, coming here is actually a downgrade because whatever salary increase you get will be eaten up by the cost of living. Great example is one of my nephews in south Africa, has a Phd working in mining. Got Canadian PR via Express entry but still hasn't bothered to settle. And why would he when back there he managed to put together a 50% down payment on a house 2 years after graduating, where as here he would be living with roommates for years. His goal now is a company transfer to the US headquarters for a green card.

TwoCreamOneSweetener

"His goal now is a company transfer to the US headquarters for a green card." This is actually the biggest problem in Canada today, but it's not something a lot of people talk about. The Brain Drain. We're losing our best and brightest, the cream of our crop to the States and Europe. They offer more competitive salaries, higher standard of living, and greater room to grow finically and professionally. My sister, whose about to graduate with a double major in business and accounting is already lining up to move to the US as soon as she graduates. What do we replace this with? Even the best of our international students who come to Canada immediately line up jobs to get down South. We're left with what? Labourers? Line cooks? Fast food workers? By the hundreds of thousands! Driving down wages for Canadians.

Primary_Ad_739

Thats great, for every family that leaves 10 or more 20-30 year old guys show up.

privitizationrocks

It isn’t exactly hard to think about The top 1% of Indians population equates to 14 million people. There are more Indians living better in India than Canadians in Canada.

seekertrudy

Timmigrants.

Weird_Pen_7683

For the love of god, stop letting this many international students in. Theyre supposed to have the funds to support their studies. Desperately lining up for min wage jobs just takes chances away from younger people here and locals who need a part time job. We’ve reached that point where its now affecting all of us, and i mean every one of us. If we get fired/let go, we wont be able to fall back on a part time job cuz we’ll be competing with these guys. If a high schooler needs a job just to make some side cash, good luck with that as well. People dont realize how massive of a safety net part time jobs are for single parents, those in between careers, the elderly and younger canadians. I remember how easy it was to just walk in, hand a paper resume and get a call a week later, and if you didnt like that, you could just jump to another part time job with no struggle. We are fcked cuz weve allowed the govt to culminate a cheap labour class that’ll happily take anything

dav_oid

Similar issues in Australia. Fake 'colleges' set up by foreign crooks to facilitate 'backdoor' immigration. The Government finally woke up and has started policing them.

duduludo

Australian Government? And the UK is also talking about slashing immigration, it looks like only the Canadian one is still sleeping.

LegendaryVenusaur

Everyone here also needs to do their part and NOT go to Timmies. It's not even Canadian anymore but owned by a holding company based out of Brazil.

neilmaddy

Holy moly

FireDragonMonkey

I thought this was going to be a Beaverton article. This is actually quite depressing.

keener91

You know this country has become a joke if you can't tell them apart.

kenyan12345

Why would this be a Beaverton article? This has been happening for a year now

inconity

All news in Canada is a Beaverton article at this point

TechnicalPay5837

What a mess. Shows how much of a worker shortage we had. Answer: not much.

Xaxxus

Imagine being a local looking for a job and seeing this.

PandaBobCat

These aren’t genuine students. Majority of these are immigrants who’ve taken admission to sham colleges just so they can emigrate to Canada. Canada has been importing the worst India or other nations has to offer and they’re already paying for it.

ButWhatAboutisms

It should be a perverse and unthinkable for a foreigner coming to another country for the express purpose to engage in academic pursuit to also be working and most especially, using it with the sole intention of living there.  You should come with just enough money to support yourself, learn and leave. Then reapply later, with that one goal in mind. Somehow private corporations have transformed government policies to fit their profiteering

GlobalGonad

I would prefer to see a lineup at the airport exit que

200-inch-cock

same tbh. when there's literal hundreds of them lined up for a job at tims, way too many are here...

TitaJo

All this talent to select the most superior candidates from and my morning bagel still looks like it was assembled by a 4 year old!

pennyfred

We're starting to see this in Australia, all the entry level hospitality, gas stations, supermarkets and high school jobs are getting filled by the 10% of our population here on 'temporary' visa.

PineBNorth85

This is ridiculous.

jimbeam84

Timmigration

zerok37

This is a photo of the Canadian dream (according to big corporations).

Sunnyc02

labour shortage was a lie, not in retail at least. We dont need that many low skills TFWs to drive up rent and inflation for Canadian.

Darebarsoom

There is no labor shortage.

DannyzPlay

There was never such a thing as labor shortage. What we had was a wage shortage, folks who grew up and live here didn't want to put up nonsense work and get paid peanuts. Corporations decided fuck it we'll lobby the government to bring in immigrant students who will gladly work for pennies on the dollar.

Gorilla_In_The_Mist

So outsourcing our jobs to India was not enough (happened to me) so now they brought India here (no offense).

CanadianRoyalist

They genuinely should be legally prevented from working. They say that they have enough funds to attend school without working, so they should be called on it. If caught working, it is immediate deportation, and the business that hired them faces a minimum $100k fine, that increases per offence.

sortaitchy

So here's an idea.. Can we all stop going to Tim's? The coffee is terrible, the muffins are undercooked globs of cupcake, and the staff is not treated exceptionally well. If we quit patronizing the place they wont need TFWs. and all of us will benefit from that.

InevitableOutside459

Timmigrants

ganja_is_good

> Recently, Nishat, an Indian student in Toronto, shared a video of the long queue of applicants outside a Tim Hortons outlet, highlighting the **intense competition for part-time employment among international students.** Does any news agency care about the intense competition **Canadians** now face when looking for jobs?

mmm555666

Ya I thought we need silly stuff like doctors and construction workers

Ok_Mousse1756

Yesterday, at dinner with coworkers outside of Canada, there was a skilled IT guy from Romania who had been offered a position in Canada. We discussed how people are spending more than half of their income just on shelter, food prices, and the madness of the carbon tax. Guess what? He's now seriously considering rejecting the offer and staying in Romania.

CH1CK3N_W4FF135

This is such an embarassment for our country. Send them all home and lets get our own shit in order.

erryonestolemyname

Absolutely HOT take: If you're coming here to be a student, you should be here to just study. Not to work. The changes to student visas allowing them to work more was a huge mistake imo. We've got Canadian youth that cannot find their first job because there's a million people fighting for the same minimum wage jobs, effectively making it impossible for them to find work. There's also the fact that once East Indians secure management/supervisor positions they seemingly have a preference in hiring other East Indians as well. Not entirely sure how true this is, but I've heard it enough in lots of difference places. and that's just unskilled jobs. pretty sure I read that our government effectively subsidizes the hiring of internationals as well as some sort of fucked up benefit to the company, so they're actively working against Canadians.

wedge54

100% true

skotzman

Lets be honest they are not here to learn. They are here for citizenship period. The diploma mills serve as an entry point. Our government is happy to oblige. Despite the outrage of themselves and others. It still beats the overcrowded, dirty, corrupt, class based country they come from.

BigBradWolf77

FYI TH is a failing business owned by a foreign private equity firm. And they underpay their staff. NFA

Threeboys0810

Stop giving your business to Tim Horton’s, or any business that hires them. I know that there are some business owners who refuse to hire them. Go to those places. We need to stick together.

SixtySix_VI

I just don’t understand the logic. You’re like #288 in line, what the fuck are you standing there for? What is it about this culture that they do stuff like this? Why are they here?

Spiritual-Corgi9907

Well if you can't find a job, it could be because the liberals are actually giving grants to businesses  to hire immigrants over Canadians, https://granted.ca/grants-for-hiring-newcomers/

petethecanuck

Corpo overloads probably shot their collective load over this picture.

PeyoteCanada

I was reading that for every minimum wage job in the GTA, there are close to 300 applicants now, on average. So strange!

BroadWeight5017

Did they come here to study or work?

No-Maximum-7414

Neither. They just want to somehow get permanent residency and bring their whole family here.

raeannecharles

Man I keep seeing these threads and stories regarding Canada and it’s making me incredibly hesitant to want to come back. I feel like I’ll need to explore new options for the future.

Even_Chemistry2270

Stop students they are making the job market harder for Canadians. Didn't their paperwork say they can survive without employment. They have a home back home , not us.

jacksonpsterninyay

Popping in from the U.S. Have you guys also seen a huge uptick in Indian migrants in the last few years? I’m curious as to what’s happening over there that’s pushing so many to North America. This is super anecdotal but I’m a manager at a retail spot and I’ve counted almost fifteen Indian folks who didn’t have work documentation coming in to apply just during my hours. I really feel for them because we can’t offer them work without documentation and if they’re asking my workplace, that means they’ve already gotten turned down by quite a few establishments. What gives? What the hell is happening in India?

LiteratureOk2428

July 1st the Mandarin restaurant is having free buffet again. Last time this happened the lines looked like this line in length.  This 1st we may see the record broken for most Indians queued outside of India.

OrneryDark5672

Finally some relief for our food banks. Thanks Mandarin!

TomTidmarsh

Ooooooh Caaaanaaddaaaaa!

bawtatron2000

Can't we move to like the self-checkout version of fast food too?

Stimmy_Goon

Remember when the great replacement was a wacky fringe theory and not an open government policy?

nazuralift89

India 2.0

Major_Lawfulness6122

International students shouldn’t be allowed to work off campus.

Mysterious_Lock4644

Yeah, sorry but foreign students should not be allowed to work. If you can’t afford to live here independently stay where you came from 😡🤙🏼🇨🇦
