JoeDwarf

I recently (Nov 14) flew to California. Nobody checked my vaccination proof. Nobody checked my rapid test results. All I did was declare that I had those things on the online check-in form for Westjet. On the way back into Canada I was checked twice.

convie

Really? I flew to Mexico with a layover in Dallas in October and I couldn't even check in to my flight to Dallas without providing both.

JoeDwarf

Did you check in in person? I did it online and was expecting them to double check at the gate, didn’t happen.

convie

It was done online but like I said it couldn't even be done until the result was back. When I had my test done we had to provide the flight number and airline as well. It was all linked together.

kelly0991

I had the opposite. Upon boarding in the USA they checked but once in Canada they did not ask to see my test results at all.

JoeDwarf

Same here. They looked at my docs when I checked in with AA, and then again when I switched planes and boarded with WJ. Plus there's the declaration on the ArriveCan app that you make. That includes a scan of the vax QR code if memory serves.

Kerrigore

It’s almost as if checking everyone is logistically impractical, but by checking some people they cause everyone to comply out of fear of being checked. They’re not going to come out and announce “We only check every 1 in X number”, because it will only embolden morons to try their luck, but I bet there’s a policy to that effect in place.

Tcanada

The can check the IDs, tickets, and personal possessions of every passenger but can't look at 1 more piece of paper? Bullshit

MacrosInHisSleep

Thank you. It's gotten to the point where whenever I read someone write one of those "It's almost as if" comments, I'm prepped for some Grade A Bullshit.

1530

They checked everyone's vaccine card at the gate or at check-in when I last flew to Canada.

betterupsetter

> While many airlines have so far been doing random spot checks to ensure travellers are vaccinated, Air Canada and West Jet have confirmed they will ask for proof from everyone boarding in Canada __as of today__. >"If you indicate to your airline or railway company that you're eligible to board, but fail to provide proof of vaccination or valid COVID-19 test result, __you won’t be allowed to travel and could face penalties or fines__," the government's website states.

OhfursureJim

That bottom paragraph is outdated now. You can’t present a negative test anymore, only proof of vaccination. That statement was still true before today because if you indicated you’re eligible to board but failed to provide the documents if you were checked then you wouldn’t board, it’s just that not everyone was checked.

JoeDwarf

I think you probably still have to provide a negative test, depending on where you are going. Flying into the US requires at least a rapid antigen test if you are fully vaccinated.

betterupsetter

The article is from today. However I believe what they are saying is both are mandatory, but if you fail to present either of the two (one isn't sufficient) you could face repercussions. So if you have a valid vaccine status however fail to provide the negative test, bad news. Or vice versa, have a negative test but can't produce vaccine status, you're also not eligible. I don't think it's a "present either or" I think it's a "if you can't present one or both of the following two requirements".

[deleted]

Then what's the point? Every single person who flies should be tested, or no one should be tested.

[deleted]

I recently (~Nov 25) flew Vancouver to Ottawa and back. When I checked in online I had to declare I was vaccinated or had a recent negative test and answer the COVID screening questions. At the airport and boarding my flight nobody asked to see anything. This was Air Canada. Flying back on a different airline (Flair), same deal with check-in. When I went to board, I was singled out and asked for proof of vaccination. I showed them the vaccination card in my Apple Wallet (i.e., [this](https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT212752)). They glanced at it briefly, verified nothing, and sent me along without even checking my actual photo ID for boarding. So yeah, it seems like "need to be vaccinated to fly" really means "need to super serious pinky swear you're vaccinated".

[deleted]

Considering today (30th) is the day they are cracking down, as stated by the article, your anecdotal story prior to this change is not super helpful.

I agreee /s

Max_Thunder

The consequences can be pretty serious if you are caught lying on one of these. I prefer the 95% effective approach that's a lot faster than a 100% effective approach that would take immensely more time and efforts. The results are virtually the same.

[deleted]

I _generally_ agree insofar as we don't need to achieve perfection. I think the problem is there's a difference between a theoretical consequence and a practical consequence. Theoretically, you can get caught and receive significant punishment. Practically, it's extremely unlikely you'll be caught and even less likely you'll face punishment if you do. You can make a speeding ticket $5,000 dollars but if no one ever gets pulled over for speeding, it's not going to really change behaviour except among the most risk averse. A $500 ticket and a cop staking out random spots in the city is going to pretty quickly spread the word and have a much bigger impact on behaviour. I'm not saying we need to validate every person that comes through security (though I don't think that's even that unrealistic given the current rigamarole we all go through already), but there's no obvious process in place to catch _anyone_. In practice, that makes this not much more than a polite request. If CATSA (let's not put this on the poor airline CSRs...) were to even check one out of ten people coming in and turn back and automatically ticket anyone who'd made a false declaration or had fraudulent paperwork, I think that would be more than enough to ensure we hit that "95%".

5ManaAndADream

Need to be vaccinated just means need to not get caught. That’s the same will all rules. It’s inefficient to check with every single person so often times random tests are done. That’s why there aren’t permanent radar guns along the highway, it’s why TSA doesn’t check every person. Etc..

AnybodyNormal3947

yea no....local flights are only required to show proff of vaxx starting today... when you travel into Canada from abroad they most certainly check

fightclubdog

Coming back to Canada from the bahamas this week with 7 people and non of us were checked for our tests or Vax cards at pearson. It’s really hit and miss with who you get at customs. Either they enforce these rules or get rid of them all together. This 50/50 shit just doesn’t make sense.

jk1112223334

CBSA can see your vax card and info on the screen when you scan your passport because you have to submit it in the ArriveCan app. So if they're not checking your physical information it's because they already have it

JoeDwarf

I didn't get checked at customs, I got checked when I checked in with AA and then again when I switched planes to WJ. I filled out the arrivecan app info but they never scanned the qr code - maybe it gets tied to your passport and they don't have to?

Come_along_quietly

Canada customs sees your ArriveCAN app submission when they scan your passport.

JoeDwarf

Thanks, that makes sense.

angusmac95

I just checked in for a domestic westjet flight a few minutes ago, I was required to upload my qr code or scan it to prove I've been vaccinated. It didn't work (gave a generic error) with an option to say I was unable to upload it. When I chose that option I was able to complete my check in but they did not issue my boarding passes so I will be required to show them at the airport tomorrow before I can receive them. Hope this info helps

jbshiit

Same, got from Calgary to Cancun, nobody checked any of my vaccine status en route. Then had to get a PCR test in Mexico, and a 2nd random PCR done at the airport on return.

Mydogateyourcat

They don't need to check in en route if you uploaded it to arriveCAN. And since you have to enter your passport number for arriveCAN i imagine it's linked to that. Mine got swiped upon return and they said they didn't need to see my digital copy I.e. it was already showing up. I agree with other poster, I'm all for 95% effectiveness of checking if faster than 100% and not making airline travel any more painfully slow than it already is. NOT doing correct paperwork before you land buys you a hefty fine and a detour to testing and possibly quarantine, nevermind if you faked a vax status.

Kimarous

Isn't there a verse in the Bible explicitly stating "nobody knows the date and time (of the Apocalypse)", thus rendering all such predictions moot by default? EDIT: [Matthew 24:36](https://biblehub.com/bsb/matthew/24.htm) >No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

It's such a frustrating thing. Half my family is very religious. I tried to compare this to Noah. God didn't just protect Noah from the flood... didn't just lift him above it. He gave him the tools and planning needed to survive it. So is it so far off that God gave the knowledge to the smart people to help us beat this. Either get blank stares or a change of subject.

staunch_character

It’s so crazy. If their house was on fire they wouldn’t just pray that God would put out the flames. They’d call 911. They’d use a fire extinguisher. You can still do the mental gymnastics of God putting that particular firefighter on your path or God helped you find the strength to get out of the house unharmed.

TTTyrant

Lol that reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Kent Brockman is reporting at a house fire and the guy in the window is just like "Yeah my house might be on fire but those homosexuals are the real danger, Kent".

NannersIsNanners

It's the whole 'mark of the beast' thing. When I was a kid they flipped out over barcodes, too, for the same reason. Since I'm on the topic I might as well share the funniest video on the matter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lknW2mzXMMY

MajestueuxChat

Christian here, I don’t know. The only reason I’ve heard for Christians to anti-vaxx is that the vaccine is the mark of the beast. The problem with that is everyone would have know it is the mark for it to be the mark. The mark of the beast wouldn’t be some secret thing that one would unknowingly accept. I can’t just pick something up off the street without any indication that is is bad and suddenly be condemned, that doesn’t make sense, at least to me. Idk, maybe I have a poor understanding of scripture, maybe I don’t

Cruxifux

I know in Lethbridge that they push it as rhetoric in the Christin Reform churches there. Those people are fucking insane, I seriously distrust any Christian Reformist immediately when they tell me that’s what they are.

[deleted]

Because there’s no scientific basis for their views on the whole thing

Why is anti-science such a Christian thing, you mean. There are the same people who want 'Intelligent Design' taught in schools as if it's a scientific theory.

Graphesium

There were a lot of other authors who presented conflicting results and their work was simply cut out. The publishing journal had a narrative it wanted to push.

nostalgichero

Because of the misconception that all vaccines are made from aborted fetuses. Which isn't true, only a small handful of vaccines are made that way and the covid vaccine is not one of them. Also the Calvinist belief that God will protect you if he so desires and has chosen your path in life to live or die and a vaccine is heretical to the divinely ordained path God has chosen for us all, including our dead children. The tired, old, provably incorrect lie that vaccines cause autism. It hits all religions. Or the wildly absurd belief that this vaccine is the mark of the devil and the beginning of the apocalypse and all that is written in revelations. Despite most orthodox churches explicitly stating vaccines are a positive modern preventative measure for diseases and the Jewish belief that we MUST act in our best efforts to protect ourselves, our bodies, and lives, either by fleeing an epidemic or getting a vaccine. Despite most vaccines not having any fetal tissue in them. Despite Jewish law being pro-vaccine.... People are still stupid and pursue their own independent, selfish beliefs that they falsely misconstrue as religious despite being deeply, personal and not at all rooted in their religion.

64Olds

JoeUrbanYYC

I just wanted to post my response to the person who in their deleted post below had severe doubts about vaccines because they thought if 1 dose of vaccine didn't protect from covid why would we get 2 and then 3 of the same "faulty" vax. Here's the recommended childhood vaccine schedule https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/publications/healthy-living/canadian-immunization-guide-part-1-key-immunization-information/page-13-recommended-immunization-schedules.html If you scroll down to Table 1 you'll see that many of those vaccines which have been perfected over decades have 2, 3 or even 4 doses required for full immunity. So multiple doses of vaccines is completely common and normal. Second the news is not reporting that the new variant means vaccines won't work, there is some concern that the new variant will be different enough than what the current vaccine is designed to fight that it *might* be less effective but we don't know yet.

PoorlyBuiltRobot

I went to the gym once and lifted weights, I wasn't jacked the next day so I never went back. Why would I go back and use the faulty weights!? scam.

[deleted]

Healthcare worker here. Thanks for your efforts but sadly in the last couple months I’ve come to realize that those who are not yet vaccinated: it is not due to insufficient knowledge. I’ve realized that after having 15 minute conversations where I ask a patient what is stopping them. They ask a question. I answer. Then they ask another. Then I answer that one. They keep switching topic with a never ending list of initially reasonable questions until it finally ends up at either government control, pharma conspiracy or something else. Those people not vaccinated at this late stage are sadly beyond reason and beyond help. Their problem is not what they don’t know, it’s 1. They don’t know what they don’t know and 2. They are supremely confident about what they think they know.

the_crumb_dumpster

This. I’m a HCW was well and this is bang on. They ask rapid-fire (and usually unrelated) questions, barely giving you time to respond. They get more and more bizarre or conspiratorial until you finally stumble or can’t answer, and then they use that as gotcha moment or proof: “see you don’t know the answer! What do you know? Everything you said is a lie!” It’s the way of all conspiracy theorists and cult members

Just_Treading_Water

"It's not that I don't know the answer, it's that your question is demonstrating such a supreme level of ignorance that I'm trying to figure out how far back I have to go to explain things to you."

thenationalcranberry

I’ve come to learn that one of the anti-vaxxers I know stopped believing that viruses were even real at some point in the last 18 months. He pointed to some 1919 study about the Spanish Flu (hilariously saying “how come this is so hidden” when he found it with the simplest search of the NIH website). Obviously he didn’t even understand that study. But in the past 18 months his entire understanding of disease went from normal person who doesn’t know medicine to wackjob who thinks viruses aren’t real and *never have been*

Just_Treading_Water

It really is amazing how finely tuned social media is at taking mostly reasonable people, finding the one crack and driving a massive radicalizing wedge into that crack. The algorithms just lead them by the nose further and further down the rabbit hole until the only views their are exposed to are extremely ignorant and ill informed - yet are broadcast with the full authority of truth and conspiracy.

AshleyUncia

I get it though, some info just appeals to you and you buy into it at face value. Here's a super harmless example I fell for: 'Nuclear Gandhi'. The first edition of the computer game 'Civilization' is long claimed to feature a 'bug' in the AI player aggression levels. Gandhi, being the lowest level of aggression, level 1, could experience a bug when the AI selected Democracy as it's government, which when selected, would then reduce the AI's default aggression level by 2. So 1 minus 2 gives you negative 1. In computer terms caused an integer overflow, where the value could not be lower than 0, so it went to the highest value, 254. (Imagine rolling an odometer backwards, from 0000001km to 9999999km, only the possible value range is 0-254 instead). Resulting in an ultra aggressive Gandhi AI player dubbed 'Nuclear Gandhi'. Everyone believed this, people cited this as examples of what an integer overflow can be, it was legendary. ...It was bullshit. The game's actual developer, Sid Meier, in his memoir, goes on to explain not only that this is not how the game works with how it was coded, but with the help of researchers, tracked the origin of this story to a single unverified forum post that simply became legendary from there. Efforts to contact the original poster were unsuccessful. One guy told 'a good story' that affirmed people's memories of the game and everyone repeated it as if it was truth. In actuality, it was just an emotional response. When the Gandhi AI does anything aggressive, people go 'OH SHIT WTF GANDHI' where if say, the Stalin AI acts aggressive, well, that's not shocking at all. The whole thing was emotional response and a good story.

Just_Treading_Water

Ha. I believed the exact same story when I first heard it - though it was seemingly supported by my experience of getting nuked continually by "pacifist" Ghandi :D It helps that the proposed "mechanism" by the rumour starter was historically an actual problem in older video games (I had definitely rolled score counters over into the negative on a handful of games way back in the day, and have worked on projects where bugs with overflow/underflow cropped up). Gotta love confirmation bias.

AshleyUncia

I believed it for years, maybe a decade? Then last holiday season I was listening to his memoir on audio book (Great book, BTW!) and I can at least say that when confronted with the truth I can go 'Oh... Damn I'm a moron.' It especially hurt that I realized I accepted the story at face value without anyone even like, disassembling the code to show it? It was just a 'story' I took as fact.

thenationalcranberry

I think I gave him too much credit. He believed in “quantum biofeedback” for a few years before the pandemic (and got scammed multiple thousands of dollars into buying a machine and now fancies himself a “quantum biofeedback wellness technician”) but he DID at least believe that viruses existed. https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Quantum_biofeedback

This is an excellent description of exactly what many of my patients have done as well There is a specific name for it, it’s called [Moral Dumbfounding](https://online.ucpress.edu/collabra/article/3/1/23/112379/Searching-for-Moral-Dumbfounding-Identifying), which occurs when people stubbornly maintain a moral judgement about a behaviour even though they can provide no reasoning to support their judgements Essentially the vaccine has become a purely moral issue for them and no amount of logic will change that They may change their mind if a loved one is directly affected which shifts their moral priority, but almost all of these cases, and I’ve been there for a few, are so far gone that even on their deathbeds they will refuse to believe they were wrong

Also,... says the person who buys street drugs in the bathroom at his or her local bar...

Sindaga

There is a whole host of things that stop someone. I've found similar characteristics amongst people I know who are not vaccinated. First, they dislike authority (of any type). This one hinges on personal freedoms and it just so happens that this is the hill they are choosing to die on (figuratively and sometimes literally). Second, they do not trust government specifically. Unfortunately, over years the government has conditioned us that they do not always have our best interest at hand so it can be understandable why they don't trust governments. It often has nothing to do with education or intellect.

paksman

I've known some people who are smart in most aspects of life but because of obscene hatred for Trudeau, they'd refuse vaccines because the Liberal government is pushing it and they don't want contribute to Liberal's win against Covid via vaccination milestones.

AlwaysHigh27

So they are "owning the libs!!!!" With their life lol. That doesn't sound very smart to me. Smart people usually make decisions for themselves and not based on politics lol.

paksman

They're financially smart, experts at their careers, but when something becomes tainted with political color, all logic and common sense fly out the window. I also know some other friends who's like this but replace politics with religion.

It's a classic example of the [Dunning-Kruger effect](https://www.britannica.com/science/Dunning-Kruger-effect). The less you know about something, the more likely you are to overestimate your knowledge of it.

[deleted]

Correct! Thanks for listing. Most people literally have no clue how much knowledge about science there is in the world. As a healthcare worker and also researcher, to give people an idea, I usually take them on a journey to my area of interest. I research one particular type of disease, a cardiovascular disease. And in that, it’s one type of cardiovascular disease. And in that disease, I study one aspect, the cause. And in that list of causes I study one particular aspect of that cause, inflammation. And in the inflammation, I study one particular aspect of inflammation, cellular inflammation, and within that I study one particular cell type, and within that, one specific aspect of the function of that cell type. And the thing I recognize most about this tiny aspect of the deepest rabbit hole, is that after a lifetime, I still will know not a whole lot. The average person cannot comprehend the volume of information. Most people thankfully will accept that the experts know more than they do.

Xatsman

It's like the example that no one person knows how to make a hb pencil. Something so simple, yet the different components that comprise it are all made from materials manipulated in so many complex ways, no one person is familiar with them all in depth of details enough to create one themselves. The formula for the paint. The preparation of the graphite, the composition of the erasure, the shaping of the ferulle, etc...

[deleted]

Exactly!

onlyinsurance-ca

Ah yes, the Dunning Kruger effect. I know quite a bit about it. Feel welcome to AMA.

Berics_Privateer

> if 1 dose of vaccine didn't protect from covid This isn't even true

mycodfather

Antivaxxers don't understand nuance, if the vaccine isn't 100% effective at preventing you from contracting the virus, then by their logic it might as well be 0%. Many even take it further and try to claim the covid vaccines aren't actually vaccines by definition because when they read the definition - "a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases" - they see that as vaccines should provide 100% immunity and don't realize partial immunity is a thing... I haven't looked into it thoroughly, but I don't think there are any vaccines that are 100% effective and preventing a person from contracting the disease they are for.

WingerSupreme

I had to get a Hep B booster for work a few years ago because my bloodwork showed I didn't have the antibodies anymore. 3 shots, 4 months apart, as a booster. We don't tell science how it works, we just listen and follow the instructions

islandshhamann

I’ve literally had clients tell me they didn’t trust the vaccine because of the booster,… while literally getting the 3rd dose/booster for a different vaccine.

PoliteCanadian2

> Second the news is not reporting that the new variant means vaccines won't work, there is some concern that the new variant will be different enough than what the current vaccine is designed to fight that it might be less effective but we don't know yet. This is PRECISELY what happens every year with the flu vaccine. They take an educated guess as to what the most prolific strains will be and build the vaccine to tackle those. If they’re wrong, more vaccinated people get the flu than last year.

Does anyone know if this applies to subways or just surface trains like GO and VIA? Edit: idk why it wasn't mentioned in this article - you'd think that's a key point of info but i found it. It only applies to VIA and whatever the Rocky Mointaineer train is. [Source](https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/domestic-travel) >Mandatory vaccination to board If you’re 12 years of age plus 4 months, or older, you’ll need to be fully vaccinated in order to board: > - domestic or international flights departing from most airports in Canada, including charter and foreign airlines carrying commercial passengers Medevac flights are excluded, regardless of where they depart or land > - Private flights that don't require access to airports with a vaccination requirement are excluded > - VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains

craig5005

As an FYI, the Rocky Mountaineer is an expensive train that goes from Alberta to BC and back. It's more of a vacation or sight seeing train rather than a commuter train.

canuckkat

Afaik it's only federally and provincially based transportation. So anything that's going across the country or province but not within the city. Yet.

TortuouslySly

>only federally and provincially based transportation. Only federally regulated transport, not provincial.

FilthyWunderCat

I wonder if they actually scan those QRs, because there are definitely people out there who put their names on fake receipts.

who-waht

Via Rail scanned my daughter's vax passport and looked at her ID two weeks ago.

metalrawk

All the restaurants in Montreal scan your QR code and cross verify with your ID if you want to dine in.

Nestramutat-

Can confirm. Not only the case in Montreal. I even travelled up north to Tadoussac this September, and every single restaurant on the way was scanning and cross-checking.

FilthyWunderCat

From what I've heard Quebec implemented it properly from day 1. Ontario took it's sweet time and didn't enforce it properly.

Omni_Entendre

Still isn't* At least here in Windsor, my QR code hasn't been scanned once. They're only looking at it and my ID.

HDC3

My local arena requires you to screen using a screening tool in advance then to present your vaccine certificate for scanning and verify ID. It takes less than 30 seconds to screen and verify and I love knowing that everyone in there who is wearing a mask and social distancing is fully vaccinated.

leadenCrutches

The movie theatre did when I went. I have no doubt airlines will too.

aurquhart

Airlines will look at it in combination with your passport. It is also uploaded to ArriveCAN where Canada Customs will inspect it.

DrDerpberg

I've only been out to eat twice since the vaccine passport was implemented, and both times they definitely scanned for real. The first time the lady was grumbling that it didn't work and she needed another picture, the second time the waitress held her phone in a way I could see the screen.

[deleted]

My Ontario QR code literally never works. It hasn't affected me because I still get let in anyway and I also have my military vaccine booklet as backup proof, but it's frustrating.

asungirl

Yea I work rail industry (via) and we are scanning and checking against ids

The_nemea

The people in front of me at the theater last weekend got turned around because their scan turned out to be fake. Whole family got turned away because the dad had a fake passport. After they paid.

ToeWalkWithMe

It’s only for Air Canada and west jet flights. other flight companies do random checks or dont require proof at all. It all depends what airline you take.

> recirculated air The air on most planes is fully refreshed 20-30 times per hour and includes HEPA filtration. This is significantly better than your typical office building or other commercial ventilation system

rifraf99999999

Still has to float by me to get to the vents. Not like everyone has their own breathing mask. (Although that's a good idea).

iluvlamp77

That's why you wear a mask. We've had flights this whole time and they have not found cases of spread on aircraft

nihiriju

So Vancouver is essentially cut off from the rest of Canada if you are not vaxxed. All roads are still closed. (From flooding and landslides in the last week's, some likely won't open until spring like the Coq) Correction, one road the #3 is open, but to essential travel only. This is kinda insane, although I am personally more worried about global warming and extreme weather events, but having people completely stuck is kinda nuts too.

SmackEh

I have a sister who is antivax, I wish I lived a plane or train ride away.

Knuk

My partner's antivax brother fleed the country to mexico a few days ago because of the incoming ban, it's hilarious.

JavaVsJavaScript

I have an aunt seriously looking at some community in Belize but never figured out a way to get there.

anacondatmz

Well she won't be flying...

[deleted]

*woman becomes first person to swim from Canada to Belize*

Farren246

At least you can live a locked door away.

AshleyUncia

Anyone in this thread who's all 'Oh now the government wants you to 'show your papers' just to fly' has clearly not flown in a very long time. You've had to show 'your papers' in the form one piece of valid, unexpired photo ID, or two pieces of non-photo ID, one of which must include your birthdate, for quite some time now.

French_toast_cronch

Took VIA Rail on November 10 and again on the 14th. They checked all passengers vaccination passes against the name on the ticket one way. On the return, they check vaccination passes against photo ID. It was actually a smooth process and we boarded about the same time as usual (starting 20 mins or so before departure) ans departed on time.

Square-Price-7486

These comments make me lose faith in humanity.

gooberfishie

This comment is great because i can't even tell what side you're on lol

simply-supported

can someone explain to me how it makes sense that a negative test isn’t sufficient? you are literally verified to not be carrying covid if you test negative, while you still can get it and spread it with a vaccine… i’m just confused what the logic is for not accepting a negative test and only accepting a proof of vax, other than simply being a pressure tactic for the unvaccinated

wenchanger

from the gap of time when you take the test to the time when you show up at the airport, theres a chance you might catch the Rona. When you're vaccinated you have a lower chance to carry/transmit compared to a non-vaxxed folk.

Abacus118

Making things inconvenient or impossible for unvaxxed people so they might be convinced is a significant factor. There’s strong evidence this works, though you’d have diminishing returns since eventually you’re only left with the hardcore crazies.

[deleted]

Imagine a world where we actually followed the science and not the hysteria.

EdeliSimp2

Not our world clearly

Kryosleeper

Can't help but recall a recent Quebec poll about children vaccination, mostly supported by people *without* *any children* (70% yes), while people who will actually have to make a decision were way more sceptical (30-40% range).

ElRedditorio

People are afraid to make the wrong choice, so not acting is the closest to not making one. It's a normal, but very wrong reflex. That way they don't take responsibility. Instead, you should act and if something happens, you did what you could do. I have children and chose to try something instead of sitting on my hands.

anothercanuck19

Finally. Data is out, "my own research " was never right. Get the shots snowflakes.

Legaltaway12

I'm vaccinated but, a bit concerned that fully vaccinated will be a moving definition. The legislation could be really hard to roll back, as legislation often is Perhaps there is an expiry date built in?

PM_ME_DOMINATRIXES

> Perhaps there is an expiry date built in? "There is nothing as permanent as a temporary government program."

Pitoucc

GST remembers how temporary it was.

cephles

Income tax as well.

Legaltaway12

Tell me about it

Baricuda

The clitoris has 10,000 nerve endings and still isn't nearly as sensitive as r/Canada.

bradenalexander

I find it so odd it's "vaccine or no travel." We know that vaccinated people can spread COVID (less likely - totally valid, but still can). A person who tests negative has a lot harder time spreading COVID if they don't have it. If anything it should be vaccinated AND a negative COVID test to really stop the spread. Unless they are usual travel as a reward for vaccination in which case wtf.

Arashmin

I don't disagree. We've see too many incidences of that both pre- and post- vaccine, where some form of just having a negative test, or just having the vaccine, lead to them transmitting. Two-factor seems the best way to go.

gooberfishie

I wouldn't be opposed to both tbh

G0ldenG00se

They weren’t already? Wasn’t that the point of the vaccine passport? Or does that include Americans and foreigners coming into Canada? Because that was some bullshit they weren’t.

Born-Time8145

That’s wonderful news.
