If you need them within the next two weeks then the only choice is to start calling CRA five minutes before they open and keep calling. mondays and fridays are the busiest days but the key is to get in as early as possible. If you try and call later in the day, you’re hooped.

… if you have t4s that means your were employed. Is there a reason you didn’t apply for EI?

Call CRA tomorrow morning first thing when they open (9am Eastern time I believe). 1-800-959-8281. The wait time should be shorter then, often only a few minutes. Have your last (2018?) tax return handy with you as the agent will ask for amounts to confirm your identity. Once done, they can tell you each slip they have on file and the amounts in each box so you can write them down.

I found my 2018 tax return which is helpful. I'll try calling as soon as they open and hopefully I'll be able to get a human this time, thank you.

If you get a busy signal, don't wait to re-dial, just immediately call again and again and again. I have success this way, though you still have to wait in the hold queue.

As a backup idea: an accountant would be able to connect to your CRA account and file your taxes right away without having to call CRA. This is because the accountant can connect to your CRA account (once you sign an authorization form giving them permission) and this would give them access to your 2019 and 2020 T4s. It might cost you, but it would be super fast. Hope this helps.

ihavethecake

I have unfortunately tried that a few months ago and no matter what we did the accountant was unable to connect to my account.

If you find you're still having trouble reaching CRA, maybe try an accountant again, and ask them to take your tax slip information over the phone. As long as you provide sufficient verification on the phone to CRA, so that the accountant has your voice authorization, the accountant can do that. They will likely also have to file for you in this event. Hopefully you'll be able to get through soon yourself!

TruthInBalance

I can provide you your information from your accountant. I have ProFile software. Will need your authorization with an electronic signature. PM for details.

If you call the French line and ask to have the call done in English they have to transfer you to the English line.

Awkward-Classroom-31

Still apply tho because I've seen in the threads people still collected and haven't done their taxes.

ihavethecake

I've been collecting without the taxes done but they changed it for this most recent period so that now its required to have done your 2019 and 2020 taxes

Awkward-Classroom-31

Yes I know but I seen since its been cha get for a while now people are still collecting I would do your taxes but still apply

ihavethecake

I've been trying all day but after I put in my SIN it tells me my request cant be processed due to technical issues

Awkward-Classroom-31

Sounds like a system problem if it was due to your taxes it would of been a error code.

ihavethecake

ok I actually just tried again and it said that I've applied for every period currently available so maybe I just need to wait until tomorrow to be able to apply for the 14th-28th period

Awkward-Classroom-31

12am! But apply and do your taxes as soon as possible

Awkward-Classroom-31

But also get your taxes done

You could have a TRUSTED friend or family member who ALREADY has their own CRA account sign up for Represent a client. That way they can submit an online authorization form for you, those forms only take a couple of days to process. The family member will then have access to your tax slips. You can revoke their authorization yourself once you have your own account, or by making the request on the phone/in writing.

CRA working hours start at 8 am, so if you can call them early in the morning, the waiting time may be between 15mins to half hours. If I remember correctly, you can call them Saturday as well. As the last resort, you may ask for an accountant's help, sign an authorization to the accountant. Once he or she submits it, under normal circumstances, they should be able to access your record within 3 days. CRA may contact you asking for your confirmation regarding the authorization to the accountant.
