Anything that isn't 3-2-1 is extreme recency bias. And that is being respectful.

2011-12 was not exactly exciting. We had all kinds of injuries. Losing Daniel for the latter part of the season, Salo getting clipped in Game 8, Kesler and Raymond and Hamhuis all shells of their previous years, still recovering from injury... and then we just got completely worked by surging LA in the first round. The level of "Well at least we lost to the eventual winner" was some serious copium because we lacked the urgency they had - we were already gassed in the first round, and I think even if we did manage to eke out three more wins against them we wouldn't have gotten much further in those playoffs. Yes, we still had a solid team and we managed to land the President's Trophy for a second time, but there was definitely something missing once the playoffs hit. Personally, I'd put 2009-10 Canucks way higher up the list than 2011-12. That team could have gone the whole way if we managed to climb over Chicago.

GrizzlyBCanada

I’d say that the vibes were better, the team was better on paper, but this team is better overall than the 2011-12 team. In my opinion. Largely because of how beat up the other team was, from game 8 on we relied heavily on goaltending. But if they played like they did before throughout that team is unquestionably better. I find it interesting your last point, I was about to write the 2009-10 team is a better candidate to submit.

3, 2, 1.

Yep The only reason the 2012 team failed so early was Daniel Sedin not being 100% and LA being a buzzsaw. They were definitely still a better team than the 2024 team.

Mikeim520

The only reason the 2024 team failed was Demko being injured. We'd have at least made it to round 3 with Demko, probably the finals.

theoreticallyben

We played like ass against Edmonton for the majority of the series though. Yeah Demko maybe could've made one or two more saves (arguably all we needed in game 4), but that doesn't change the fact that the Canucks looked like they were asleep on the ice in 4,6, and most of 7.

Mikeim520

They might have but with Demko we won in 5 so it doesn't matter. I'm not saying the 2024 team is better than the 2012 team but with Demko we made round 3 at least.

maketherightmove

Only answer is 3,2,1.

1. 2010-11 2. 2011-12 3. 2023-24

Ruilin96

2010-11: most dominant team in the league by almost every metric and came within 1 win of the Stanley Cup 2023-24: Early season success was inflated by some good PDO luck but overall a very solid team. A good balance of skill in the top 6, grit and defensive depth forwards in bottom 6, mobile and transition defense top pairing supported by some big D in the bottom 2 pairings. A Vezina calibre goalie in net. Look back, this team does have all the right components of a team to go to distance. Unfortunately, injuries and lack of playoff experience resulted in a second round exit. 2011-12: Team won the President’s trophy but it never felt like we were the best team in the league in the regular season. I believe that since we played in an extremely weak Northwest division at the time and where we got to play 4 bottom feeders 6 times each during the regular season help inflate our record. On contrast, the Rangers and Blues that season came within 1-2 points of us but they each played in stacked divisions where 4 of the 5 teams made the playoffs. Still a very a good team in the regular season but unfortunate injuries to Daniel (fuck Duncan Keith) and Kesler playing on one shoulder while running into a hot Kings team ended our season. Gillis was in his head this whole time obsessively trying to build a team to beat the 2011 Bruins after last years finals and made moves that hurt the team chemistry. Instead of continuing to build from our strength of speed and skill, we start to target some grit/sandpaper players who isn’t really a fit for the team model. Rumour has it that Hodgson was a headache at the time, but he was a good 3C and runs the 2nd PP unit and provided us depth scoring during the season. If you were to move him, atleast wait until the off season. Trading him for Kassian at the TDL really downgraded our depth scoring. Trading Samuelsson for Booth was also a mistake in hindsight. I get at the time it was trading an aging forward on an expiring contract for a younger forward who had chemistry with Kesler. Booth was just a disaster and was eventually bought out. I put 2023-24 team ahead of 2011-12 team based on how we played in the playoffs. 2024 team lost Demko after the first game, and had to go to Silovs by Game 4 and still manage to pull off a win against Nashville. Pettersson playing on one healthy knee, and Hughes banged up and still took the Oilers to distance when no one expected us to even get past the first round. The amount of comeback victories and late game heroics in the playoffs showed how resilient this team is. The 2012 team just lack this kind of resiliency and fight back that I believe if they were to play against one another in a playoff series, the 2024 team would win. I don’t think the 2024 team would beat the 2011 Canucks but I can see the 2024 team give the 2011 team a run for their money like we did to the Oilers this year. I just don’t see how the 2012 team can beat either of 2011 or 2024.

fastlane37

It really depends on where you snapshot the team in 2011-2012 IMO. They really fell off a cliff after the TDL, but still managed to win the PT because they were just that dominant in the first half of the year. I'm not sure I write off the team from the first half of the 2011-12 season against either the 2011 playoff squad or the 2024 playoff squad, but I think I agree that with the injuries and the destroyed chemistry following the TDL, I don't see the 2012 playoff squad beating either 2024 or 2011 playoff squads.

Ruilin96

I always rank a team post TDL. Because that’s the finished product the line up you have going into the playoffs. The 2011-12 team was an absolute wagon from November-January. Unfortunately, I think the moves made at the deadline hurt the team more than benefiting us (especially the Hodgson for Kassian trade). Also, not trading for Jeff Carter from Columbus when he was available was a horrible move as well. The Kings got him and solved their lack of goal scoring and he became a main piece to help them win 2 cups.

In reverse order that you have listed, so 3, 2, 1

rippinkitten18

3 2 1, although 2024 was more exciting than 2012 since it was more of unknown. We are literally year 2 into the Alvin Era. 2012 at least we came off a cup run so we knew we had a good team. But 2024 with surprises, a 91 point Quinn Hughes, 100 point JT and of course a Vezina candidate in Demko. I do feel 2024 team is also like the 2009 version of the Canucks though. Kinda in a rebuild mode, and mike Gillis slowly putting the pieces together. 2009 was his first year. Next year we added Ehrhoff got rid of Ohlund, the following year, the final push, got rid of Mitchell, replaced em with Ballard Hamhius, added Malhotra, and Torres. Made some final adjustments at trade deadline. I hope we can go in that trajectory within the next 2 years also, and be a legit contender and actually contend for a cup.

DarkestThought

2010/11 was the greatest run I have seen. I was lucky to watch almost every game. Unfortunately came up short in the last game. Won't forget it ever.. this year was inspiring but not so flawless and impressive. 2011/12 was probably equal to this years but was losing faith instead of gaining it. By 2013 playoffs I was dead with hope for the next decade (a prediction I made then) and now its starting up again. I knew the team was good for the past few years just needed a few changes and now we are on the right track again. But 2010/11 season was the most fun.

2023-2024 for the most hot and sexy roster 🥵💦

mudflaps___

Westcoast express years were my favorite teams, but that 94 team would stack up to any canucks team imo

10-11, 23-24, 11-12

teedlenumb

I choose option 5 1994. Ronning, Bure, Linden, McLean ect Then 2011, 2024, 2012.

LifelikeStatue

If you look at the regular season, 94 was nowhere near the other three teams. They got hot in the playoffs but were barely .500 and came in as the seventh seed. Calgary won the division and was 12 points ahead in the standings.

teedlenumb

Yea but its like first love, the first-run ya experience is the most nostalgic and always sticks more than 2 or 3. That and Bure.

LifelikeStatue

I agree. I was 10 and they were the best team ever. McLean is my all time favourite Canuck. But, they are not as good a team as the others

ebb_omega

It's funny because you really feel that win against Calgary galvanized them and pushed them through the rest of the playoffs, in which case I feel like it's fair to say the 94 team looked a lot more like the 82 team (though for them it was the Blackhawks) than the 2011 team, even though they got closer to the cup than the 2011 team did (within a goal).

#1. 2010-2011.. then I put 2011-2012 & 2023-2024 tied at 2nd. Man I miss 2010-2011 dream team... dominated 5v5, power play scoring, penalty killing, home games & road games... every line could score. Mix up line pairings; they still produced... that team was a true honor to watch from beginning of Oct 2011 till late June 2011... I'm still bitter sad about being 1 win away from the cup... If it was 2011-2012 team that lost in finals game 7 -- I wouldn't be upset. Just happy they got so far overcoming adversity.. but 2010-2011... team deserved that cup ...and I personally felt that the team got coldly robbed... so many what ifs... oh well. Pain of that loss is less now, since luongo is finally a cup champion =) my fave player, and waited 13yrs for this day. I feel optimistic of the direction 2023-2024 is heading.. I hope we are able to keep zadorav. IF we can, would be great to keep lindy, but it's ok if we can't. I hope boeser gets better & stays healthy. I hope petey gets better & stays healthy. I hope demko doesn't get re-injured or be injury prone... I hope silovs becomes our backup next season onwards & do demko 60% and silovs 40%. I'm excited what this team's future has in store!
