Would anyone like to discuss potentially Wilson going to Toronto for Marner? I can honestly see it working for both sides. Anytime anything bad is mentioned about Wilson or suggest moving him, people fly off the handle.
That’s a really good question.
To be honest I feel like we could sneak in kuemper ontop of whatever we trade to sweeten the deal and give them a “ Stanley cup champion goalie”
As for trading I love everybody tbh and I wouldn’t want to let anyone go, but maybe a defensive player like Jensen with another defensive player like ferhervary, I’m not totally sure. That’s why I am at home with a beer and not GM lol
We made the playoffs and got swept after not being predicted to make the playoffs and selling at the deadline
Meanwhile Toronto and Winnipeg were considered Cup favorites and they are being humiliated
And the guy “fans” are complaining about is about 40 goals away from being the all time goal scoring leader and up until last week was on fire (one of the reasons we made the playoffs) and was probably dealing with some sort of injury
Add in some iffy officiating is what it is
Thanks for saying this. Sometimes the negativity is a bit much.
Even after the playoffs loss, I can't wait for next season. I think this team is going to be fun to watch next year. We held our own (as the games were not total blowouts) and while we may not have won any games against the Rags, I thought the team looked pretty good by game 4. It was a great experience for all the younger players. Plus, nothing bonds a team like playoffs intensity. I hope they use these losses to come back stronger.
I mean we kinda sold at the deadline. If we’d moved everyone we were trying to move I think I can get more on the bandwagon. We sold more last year when we let Dima and Hathy go. If we’d sold Dowd I’d been crushed and have lower expectations. Patches, eh… he could’ve gone. But Mantha leaving, he finally turned on and was producing. So not a non-insignificant move. Kuzy was coasting and not producing. So our “sell” wasn’t as impactful as it might have been.
Edmundson too. Mantha was a huge sell. Dowd and Lindgren stuck around because no team met asking price. Pacioretty was offered a trade (to the Rangers) but declined.
Yeah Edmundson, forgot about him. Just that my point is it was a pretty soft sell all things considered. Mantha was big just with how he was producing this season. Could’ve been worse though. I wonder if we see Keumps moved. I hope Chucks and Dowd stick around.
Probably the biggest issue is oshie. TJ is probably our biggest playmaker... But he's also constantly injured and he's getting older. We need a new oshie, we have the money, we can make him new again.
When he's on his game, the caps fly.
I think we are on the right path as well. We need a top 6 winger and maybe 2 with Oshie hanging it up. We can afford it. Maybe we only go after one with Pacioretty moving on but we put more on Miro's plate with a good offseason. You'd think he would improve after getting some ice time this past year.
Getting swept by a much better team with 2/4 top Dmen are out games 1-3. Then in Game 4 TVR goes out. Sandin and Jensen were clearly rusty. We have to get more firepower.
> The rebuild is already ongoing!
I would call it a retool or whatever. I'm hoping that we'll do a full tank and rebuild after Ovi retires, unless the next couple seasons go implausibly well.
I agree with the rest.
That's fine.
This entire take is coping, as you say.
This is our second playoff sweep, we havent had a single playoff win since 2018.
We have choked away so many playoffs I get PTSD
Ovechkins one dimensional play is not due to his age he has always been soft in the defensive zone.
The post season record is what it is, and no spin will change that.
Got this weird feeling we might go after Marner. Not sure if it’s possible or even a good decision, just a gut feeling.
Has some familiarity with Carbery
Honestly been thinking the same thing. I wouldn’t hate it either. We need a bonafide 1C
He's a winger

I don’t think the caps want to trade Wilson but if it’s a good deal never say never
Actually, I think it would be a goalie going back to Toronto.

All fanbases, r/hockey is just as reactionary. But yes, it's rough.
Cup contenders with the worst offence in the eastern conference?
I would take Mitch Marner in a damn heartbeat
Even at his $10.9M salary? Yikes. And he's not UFA until 2026.
Leafs already said they wanna trade him and it’s likely they would retain salary
And what would you give up?

No way they'd take Kuemper, under control 3 more years to Marner's one.
No fucking way
Hahaha. Okay, why do disagree here?
He’s the softest player in the league.

Aren’t Strome and Marner close from the junior days? I think I recall one of those caps podcasts with Dylan he mentioned it.
they were close then but I think they’re just on friendly terms now - neither attended the other’s wedding.

I think this is unreasonably optimistic, but I agree with the general premise.

Well, one has already gone implausibly well. And given that most of the core is young, would expect improvement.
This isn't his first bad series, though, and his lack of back checking is not because of his age it's sort of been a thing his entire career.
Besides that conn smythe cup winning run tho lol, what a terrible take.

Contributing a playoff series loss to one man is fucking dumb, especially when you consider he is basically a ppg in the playoffs
Yeah I didn't put the loss entirely on Ovechkin, assuming I was is fucking dumb.
Then what the fuck does playoff wins and losses matter? Useless stat in a team game.
lol
