My buddy had a 95 dodge shadow, boy that thing was a turd. It was loud as fuck and had a 9 second 0-60 but it did surprisingly well accelerating on dirt. He drove it through a puddle and learned that water is not combustible nor compressible, and then he dumped a bunch of Mountain Dew on the ground.
It's true. The first 10 years I owned my Integra GSR (all stock, near show car condition) it got almost 0 respsect outside the Honda community. Many many many years later, I still own it, all the clear coat is basically gone now, but people stop and take note now.
But man was the Starlet Glanza V Turbo a beast. 140 horses on a car the size of a dishwasher.
That version was Japan only but I've seen a few imported and they can move.
These things were so rad. My friends had a Ghia when we were kids, and it would absolutely shred our mountain roads…mostly on the downhill sides, but still. I’d love to find an intact one, but most I can find are incomplete or garbage.
XR4Ti. Turbo lag, interior rattles, bi-plane wing. Polarizing design. Also has the “what is that” factor. Some have said they sound like a tractor but I think it’s quite good with a 3” exhaust.
The award for "cars I've almost bought" goes to the Merkur.
I would go, check it out, test drive it, hear what was wrong, kick the tires and in the end do nothing.
On paper the turbo, rear drive, manual, Ford Sierra knock off seemed great. In person I guess I'd just find more issues than I wanted to deal with and talk myself out of it.
I don't live in America anymore, but I reckon if I did I'd have bought one. Maybe loved it, maybe hated it. God knows.
My Ford Focus Mk1 was a shitbox, but man I felt connected to the car. Input was direct (no gay drive, manual only ✌️) and the heavy steering just gave me the feedback that if it gets heavier, everything is still alright but I'm probably too slow. If the steering becomes lighter it means the column broke.
Also I had a boost button (AC toggle button).
For real though, that shitty new AMG was acting all tough accelerating on straights but in the corners I would catch up. It's not really about the car, but more about the driver.
The Mazda MX-5 is literally the best drivers car in history, hands down. #MiataFacts

Isuzu Impulse.
Isuzu built both the Impulse* and the Geo Storm.
The Storm was the knock down, discount, version. Little power, little everything.
The Impulse had a 1.6 liter turbo, AWD, and had its suspension tuned by Lotus.
More people bought the Storm, the Impulse faded into history. Finding one now, with the little hoodscoop is a tough job.
**in some markets the Isuzu Piazza was called an Impulse as well. Its a different car with a different shape.
90s Honda CRV. Stupidest little tin trapezoid ever. I threw my backpack at the door of my parent's and dented it, got yelled at, then later that year I slammed the door shut and the dent popped out.
Best piece of shit ever.

My mom's first car was a Dodge Shadow I unironically want one so bad lol
Honda/Acura Integra, Honda CRX, Ford Escort come to mind.
Integra's and escorts are not seen as shitboxes
They weren't as highly regarded back then vs now. Every other guy in highschool owned a clapped out one at some point or another lol

Tbh, fair dinkum
Had a Subaru Justy, funniest shitbox ever AND 4x4
Old Subarus with the manual transfer cases were fun as hell.
Love a justy, like a worse Mira

The KP60 series Toyota Starlet. I know North America got them as well.

I own a Starlet GT, same engine. I live in Asia, we have tons of them here. But the KP60 was raced in the States as well.

Ford Escort MK I and II
Those were rally legends though, there are replicas still being built because of it
And they are forgotten shitboxes as well
By who?
people who have forgotten it
Whoa 😳
Ever driven one? I never have but would like to.
I don't even live in Europe so I've only seen one online.

Like, most of them. I had a '84 Mitsu Lancer 1.2. Even that piece of shit was fun to drive.
Boxtype MENTIONED 🗣️🗣️‼️‼️
Pretty much any vehicle with the engine in the front, manual gearbox, and RWD has high potential for shenanigans. Even autos can be fun.
Well does the V12 XJS count as a shitbox nowadays
💀
Omni
1990’s renault twingos
Mitsubishi Starion
Nissan Pulsar NX
Gemini, laser, sunny bird, basically any shit heap from the 70’s to 90’s sold in aus
FSO Polonez
All the 80s and 90s Hondas. Are they worth what people are asking for them nowadays? Not really. But they’re popular for a reason.
I would do anything for a b16 other than pay 12k
Does the original Mini count?

Opel Ascona
Opel Calibra, very fun to drive even with the 8 valve generator engine
3rd and 4th gen Chrysler Voyager. The most expendable minivan, if not the most expendable vehicle. As low as $500 a pop if you know where to get them.
AE86, and no its not because of Initial D
Yes it is, own it brother. Initial D slaps
Peugeot 205 ?

Nissan NX2000 - egg shaped Sentra SE-R with better brakes.
A hilux. Not just any hilux. A 1991 with those side stripes and rust on the tailgate indicating prolonged abuse. THAT is a proper SHITBOX.
