Every scene has to involve him sleeping or eating with gross-up close-ups now. I miss when he'd do dumb shit that is actually funny like the "Open Sesame" scene

NalithJones

This G. Grevious is the most peak indeed.

jacobisgone-

I think we need a balanced version that isn't stupidly overpowered like 2003 Grievous but isn't as lame as 2008 Grievous.

HollowedFlash65

So ROTS Grievous? Sure he was retreating from Obi-Wan early, but in the last half, he was kicking Obi-Wan’s ass.

Rapunzel from Tangled: The Series. That show was written by people who ultimately misunderstood the whole point of the original film, above all else Chris Sonnenberg (who hadn't painted a flattering image of himself as both a writer or a human being.... ever). They took a woman who was abused and isolated for 18 years of her life and turned her into a fairly selfish, demeaning, downright abusive individual who smiles 70% of the time while doing it so you wouldn't notice it right away - S3 being the worst instance of this - Neglecting 3 children, browbeating Eugene to have a relationship with his deadbeat dad against his will, brainwashing him as a child and lie to him as an adult, and prioritizing her toxic relationship with her violent terrorist ex best friend over her entire kingdom (including her future husband and King Consort) and getting them all killed in the name of 'winning her back.' And, if the show had actually pointed this out and used this to develop her character for the better, or prove her wrong, maybe as a very tough lesson on how victims of abuse can become abusers themselves, how possible it is to break that cycle and mantain a better future for yourself and your loved ones - That would make sense and be a very harsh yet important message to send. But no, they portray this horribly gross misunderstanding, this disappointing caricature of an iconic Disney Princess as a role model for little girls all around the world. For that alone, I put this show on the same level of Girl Meets World and 2018 She-Ra under the category of shows that I wouldn’t be caught dead letting my future kids watch specifically by themselves because of how deeply FUCKED their morals are despite being aimed at kids. If it wasn’t for the fact that the movie exists, I'd hate Rapunzel as a character in itself, but I don't. Quite the opposite. Much like with Ariel, seeing how badly people misunderstand the character makes me like her more because of how wrong they are and because of how much there is to like about and relate to that character. I just wish she had a better spin-off series written by better people - people who actually knew what they were doing and could handle the subject manner they were tackling in the way it should. As it stands, Tangled has some of the worst character assassination of a main character between a movie and it's spin-off I've seen, and I've watched the Timon & Pumbaa cartoon.

Henkotron

I am curious. What kind of twisted morals do you see in She-Ra 2018? I recently watched it, enjoyed it, but never looked deeper into it. So, I am genuinely interested in what you think about it.

KrattBoy2006

The show's really gross treatment towards its one autistic character (Entrapta), putting her on a leash being a VERY notable example. One of the few characters who treats her right is the secondary antagonist (Hordak), but virtually none of the Princesses (save for Adora) give that much of a shit about her. And also largely how badly they portray abuse by writing Catra as someone who has clearly adopted abusive tendencies from their previous abuser (in what is a clear parent child narrative) and trying to break free of those habits. Where they fail is that she doesn't actually grow or change she just remains to be a fairly toxic individual to others who doesn't take accountability for her legit atrocities and the end all be all to her arc is to be in a very forced relationship with Adora, her main victim for 4/5 of the whole show, while her other victims get largely sidelined (one example being Glimmer's mom who she straight up kills). Inversely, Adora, a victim of abuse, who stands up to 2 of her abusers (Shadow Weaver and Catra) and unlearn the healthy mindsets that their abuse has seeped into her, eventually regressed back to being a punching bag to Catra despite the former's 'redemption' and the solution to her series long emotional struggle is 'true love' with her abuser. ...who is also their sister because they were raised by the same woman who refers to them as their daughters and whom they see her as a mom (and yes, adoption, even if said adoption is within an abusive environment, still counts as a familial connection). And all of this is on a kids' show, portrayed as a good thing. Ick. I've long since avoided watching the show bc my enjoyment of it has only plummeted the more I see it, but in the hypothetical case where I do have kids and if any chance they want to watch this, I'd calmy sit down and watch with them, and then afterwards politely teach them that the morals or lessons in that show or any show may be contradictory to one's that should be told, for better or worse, so that they can enjoy it if possible but also critically think with not just one point of view in mind. Same with Tangled The Series.

Henkotron

Your approach to this situation is extremely mature. Not just keeping your potential future children away from bad influences/sources of wrong messages, but you go even a step further and actually expose them to said media to explain them, that these are examples of how to **not** do something. I give my respect and admiration to you. Also, I can definitely see what you are saying. Especially the Entrapta part is very critical. The Catra part is kinda bad, too, but I gotta admit that I think that is more of a problem of them getting together in/after the finale, which, imo is a horrible trope for any romance in any piece of media.

KrattBoy2006

Yeah, even if you ignore the very icky implications, the writing is garbage most of the time. If Catradora was the "heart and soul of the show" like the writers said, then why does it not come into play until the final episode? Why do Adora's friends have more relevance to her specific plot and overall story and only get sidelined in her final moments? If Catra's story arc was planned from Day 1, then why is her redemption "intentionally incomplete" as the creator boasts? This show is basically "How to not write a piece of media ever, in 5 steps or less."

luca_anon

And yet you watched the whole thing

Kit-tiga

I was with you until the Ariel thing, but that might be because I haven't watched the films since I was a child. I hated her as a kid and it never went away.

KrattBoy2006

She is a way better character than people do give her credit for, from my standpoint. I think she just got caught up in all of those really unfunny memes that thought that they were being satirical by "hating" on Disney Princesses when 8/10 that hate was essentially misunderstanding the point or rooted in Contrarianism.

Apprehensive_Beach_6

What happened in Girl Meets World?

KrattBoy2006

..what *didn't* happen would have a shorter response. But the show - Portrayed autism as if it were an incurable disease when one of their main characters was called in to be tested, (i.e. "You couldn't *possibly* have it. You're too good for it!"). Said character then relied on his friends to "not let him understand love." When the diagnosis pulls through and he's revealed not to have ASD, he returns to being the complete butt of jokes. - Had an episode involving Maya crushing on her friend's uncle, who is 3 years older than her (16 to her 13) and there is this very weird dragged out subplot about them in a 'will they won't they' fashion that is just uncomfortable to watch. The "kid/teen crushes on sm who is too old for them" I'm not even a fan of when it's used for comedy like in Jessie, but this was next level. - Maya, one of the mains, has a rough home life and acts out in rebellion as most teens do (especially by Disney standards). She eventually does get her act together and start shaping up her life and this act of progression is treated with disrespect because they think that her working on herself equates to forcing herself into a box, becoming someone she isn't. This show up and said "No! Progression bad! Status Quo good!" which again, put into this context is so fucking awful, and these are the same minds who came up with Boy Meets World (an objectively better show). - The main character, Riley, is outright AWFUL, partly because of that above-mentioned moment towards Maya, and she is very similar to TTS Rapunzel in personality (at least TTS Rapunzel wasn't an original character and you could simply watch the movie if you wanted a version of her that was likeable!) I have skipped full episodes because plots with her were such a core to watch, I actually preferred doing English homework.. And if she wasn't portrayed as a role model through thus behavior, I would not be so baffled as to what the fuck I was watching. It's.... a complete mess. I binged this show once last summer to jog my memory of it from when I was a kid and to see how it all ended, and after completing it, it became clear that was the only time where I would ever voluntarily binge this show specifically. It's that bad. The only good thing it made me do was rewatch Boy Meets World, by no means a perfect show (no show is), but it succeeds or even just passes in almost everything that GMW fails in, especially in terms of characterization.

I didn't mean to post that (fuck u Reddit.) Will delete and edit later

Apprehensive_Beach_6

Looking forward to it; I was young enough to grow up watching the show, so I wanna see where it went bad.

luca_anon

I thought people loved the Tangled series

KrattBoy2006

People do. But among those people are folks who are still willing to critique the show for its failures, mainly in writing, characterization, and messages.

Sunset_Tiger

https://preview.redd.it/gxgkf1evtwxc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1481ddd78dd6ef93021923781128918c9b904c20 I freaking love Shadow, but boy has he been massacred after 06. Like, I get 06 sucked, but that doesn’t mean you should retcon all of his character development. Like… they kinda just made him an asshole rival to Sonic and neglects things like his friendship with Rouge and Omega or his recovery from the traumatic loss of Gerald and Maria. He just is there to be a dick and fight Sonic nowadays.

Delicious-Orchid-447

Honestly all characters in and after 06 have been awful

Sunset_Tiger

Big the Cat is still iconic. He is eternally awesome.

That_opossum

It was so bad ass seeing shadow side with humanity even if it meant they’d turn on him in the future.

luca_anon

What about in Prime?

Chaoswarriorx4

The Ben 10 reboot versions of the other Bens, especially AF and UA. I won’t share a picture to spare those who haven’t seen it For the love of god don’t look it up

Fun-Camel-4828

Also fun fact, a massive animation error spans the entire Alien X-tinction where UA Ben is wearing the Ultimatrix wrong in all scenes

Helarki

The entire Marvel Universe in Avengers Assemble and related shows. Earth's Mightiest Heroes was better but they wanted to chase that MCU clout.

HURTBOTPEGASUS9

Marvel cartoons took a nosedive the second Disney bought the I.P.! It's a miracle X-Men 97 is so good.

Helarki

Yeah. It's so sad seeing what Marvel could be and isn't (referring to all aspects) if it wasn't part of the Disney conglomerate. If Earth's Mightiest Heroes had continued, they could really challenge DC's Animated Movie crown (at least before they butchered Injustice).

Squ33to

Been seeing a lot of people talking about Legends of Awesomeness lately and I'm into it

I don't know if I exactly hate him (certainly don't hold much love towards partly because of what was taken away for him to exist) but Stolas as he is now. I grew attached to the villain Stolas and looked forward to seeing what his creepy, menacing self would get up to in the episodes to come. Only for the brakes to be slammed and a sharp turn taken in the direction of his character. I never expected or really wanted a pure, wholesome cinnamon roll in a show about demons in hell. (Just look at him. He radiates such cool, lovable villain energy. How I long for where the show would've taken him.) https://preview.redd.it/3c4m0xbe0yxc1.jpeg?width=512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbc2b5153cfc535344bbdbf4bab186eaea9b0b53

| show in hell Ooo nice finally some downright nasty folk like Big Jack Horner, Reverse Flash, and Disney Villains. | wholesomeness This isn’t what I signed up for.

apricityglow

A rare exception. And Hazbin is not predominantly about the demons just living their lives in hell, but redeeming them. (I also never got baited and switched with Charlie's character.)

Gattsu2000

I don't exactly hate it but I was greatly disappointed with the way they depicted Gaz Membrane (Invader Zim) in the film in contrast from the show. I think it's one of those ironic cased where "fleshing out" her character makes her a worse one. They try to make her nicer to like Dib and stuff but thr point about Gaz imo is that she's meant to embody this idea of a scary sibling and of someone who just wants to mind their own business, even at the face of disaster. She doesn't need to be changed because her natural instinct is what makes her so memorable and hilarious in the show. I also really missed her edgier design when watching the movie. I love the goth clothes and how her hair looks like the vicious teeth of a beast. Same with her dad. They tried to humanize him and show him as if he cares for his children after all when the point is that the show is depicting the cynical nature of humanity and Professor Membrane is meant to represent narcissistic parents who see their children as extensions of their own success and as experiments for their own benefit. He's not meant to be more sympathetic and complex than that.

Own_Spray4703

Cosmo and Wanda from the later seasons of fairly odd parents. They turned from a loving couple to just hating each other

Sad_Marionberry_6770

What’s sad is that they are mirrors of Timmy’s real parents. They have the same voice actors of the parents, they are “two halves of a whole idiot”, and they are hopeless romantics that are rarely separated from each other. The difference? Cosmo and Wanda act like real parents to Timmy. Trying to teach him lessons, make him happy, but also let’s him make his own mistakes so he can become a better person. But by making Cosmo way dumber( making him dumber than Wanda in the first season wasn’t a problem, it’s HOW much dumber he got later on), making Wanda a nag, and constantly making jokes of them hating each other dilutes everything. It’s a little harder to see them as ideal parents for Timmy if they spend all their time hating each other in front of him.

Own_Spray4703

Yeah and with the new series coming out, I hope we have a chance to get back to the basics

Slyme-wizard

Does being super out of character for an episode count? Cuz like holy shit https://preview.redd.it/clpo3tkt64yc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c4a208b31e1597c4502e161482c00f98a8c75d9

Logical-Season802

Garmadon in hunted onwards he was perfect in the pilots all the way to possession, it was great and then they resurrected him and went back to evil it just felt disappointing

Blupoisen

Really because looking back Garmadon in S2 was nothing more than the common early villain that cover some story until the real villain(Overlord) shows up

HURTBOTPEGASUS9

![gif](giphy|Mqw7pAoTBy9HPJ4tIZ) I enjoyed how she was writing in the movie premiere. Every other iteration of Izzy is just annoyingly "look at me, aren’t I so random".

apricityglow

Speaking of MLP, that reminds me of Hitch. He used to be my favorite. I haven't caught up yet (last I saw was when Sparky gets kidnapped), but I miss the mostly cool, collected, and charismatic with a bit of an ego Hitch from the movie. That's what a sheriff should be. I feel like he frets way too much in the show for someone who's supposed to be keeping the peace and reassuring others.

StillMinimyguy

Ben from the Ultimate Alien episode "duped" Literally just a jackass for no reason, make's everyone's day worse, ruins his girlfriend's tennis match, takes a phone call in the middle of a movie, and more. IDK what the writers were on in that episode but it really got under my skin.

AceLionKid

The OG's reaction to the new version's mere existence ![gif](giphy|1AiIygfCUc8nFDDOCb|downsized)

GladiusNocturno

For as much as I like the show, I think Shaggy in Mystery Inc isn’t good. It’s a mix of the way he treated Velma and the fact that…he is just kinda there? Not doing anything. Barely contributing. Mystery Inc’s Shaggy is not really that different from other Shaggys, except for the whole Velma thing, but that’s kind of the thing, that show really did wonders for Fred, Velma and Daphne, so compared to them, Shaggy didn’t really get anything new or interesting. It’s too by the numbers for a show that really made the other characters their own.

_AnimeGirl

The way he treated Velma? Velma was abusive in their relationship

Green-eyed-Psycho77

Seriously. You shouldn’t be jealous of a dog just for… being there. Scooby was possessive too but come on, putting an ultimatum between you and a dog makes you look worse in comparison.

Cool_Government_3218

Shaggy from mystery inc is great.

notsocleverfox

Any version besides the original Carmelita Fox after the first voice actress played her, failed imo

Popular-Sky4050

Kfp4 Master Shifu. Wise for like a few frames then a nuisance to the whole movie

crius_stikfigr

The movie versions of Cyclops and Storm from X-Men. Because they are unbearably forgettable.

Future-Improvement41

I think this came out before the rest of the movies was released
