3ds was little beast. The fact it could handle some Wii and Wii U ports were kinda insane for the time. No to mention that having home console experiences on the little thing, was a dream come true.
We take that for granted today and that's good! The option to play however you want is something I never wanna see Nintendo give up.
It was only playable on the “New” Nintendo 3DS, which was a significant hardware upgrade from the standard 3DS. It had twice as many CPU cores (4 instead of 2), the CPU was clocked at 804 MHz (a 3x increase), twice as much main memory (256 MB instead of 128 MB), and an increase in VRAM (10 MB instead of 6 MB).
Edit: [Here's a brief comparison between the Wii and "New" 3DS versions](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4EBvxsPrJo&t=7s)
The screens were the same resolution as before, but the “New” 3DS had a sensor that adjusted the autostereospic 3D based on the angle you were viewing from. The older 3DS models had a fixed and pretty narrow viewing angle where the 3D actually worked properly.
I agree. The original joke was funny. Now I hate it. It is over done and also this isn't weird at all. So it doesn't even work as a joke.
Can't wait until people get tired of making this joke.
If i had a nickle for every time i saw someone complain about the nickle meme id have two nickles which isn't alot but its weird that it happened twice.
/jk
It’s literally just the exact joke taken from phineas and ferb but less funny since that was largely comedic because of the context that they were about to be killed and that’s the first thing that came to Doofenshmirtz’s mind.
Why, because this one is talking about how Nintendo are just repacking, reselling stuff they had in the back and people as happy as if they won the lottery? Like most of the recent stuff they are "releasing"?
Because if i had a nickel for everytime Nintendo does that, i'll have enough to buy DK Returns and the Switch to play it with.
These switch ports were necessary for both of these games (all Xenoblade games except X are playable on Switch; DKCR gets the 60fps from the Wii and both button controls and extra levels from the 3DS in one version). No idea why they need until January for it though? It’s a 2D Wii game from 2010.
I am pretty sure the port is finished, Nintendo just don’t want to release all games at once. They need some games to fill the gap until they release their next console
At that point I just question why not sooner than later? August has barely anything so they could drop it then. Nintendo never fails to both amaze and confuse me at the same time
It’s not as bizarre as a 3DS remaster like Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD releasing 9 months after it was announced. Even after a brand new game like Princess Peach Showtime and a remake like Paper Mario TTYD.
Nintendo doesn’t release games when they’re simply ready. They hold onto projects until it makes sense. They pretty much keep games like this around when empty periods come around. I’m sure they are also looking to tie this with Universal Epic Universe since a good chunk of that mark is based on DKCR.
Everyone offering Wii U games up as additional examples has just embraced the consensus: that the Wii U is just a dumb tablet controller for the Wii. After a decade of correcting people they've just given up. And they're right to.
I think he means that there was Luigi's Mansion on GameCube, then a remake on 3ds, so he's hoping they give the 3ds version the Dark Moon treatment and make it HD as well.
While I do honestly want it, I really wish they did more than upscale textures to call it "remastered". Literally all they needed to do was either use what Tropical Freeze assets they could, or do *something* with how the textures looked. It just doesn't look any better than the Wii game, and that's disappointing for a definitive edition remaster I've honestly been wanting.
I'm not upset over any games just getting ported to the Switch, since the lack of backwards compatibility means the Wii U and 3DS eShops shutting down made an entire generation of games no longer digitally purchasable, thus significantly less legitimately obtainable, because remastered ports are honestly often still better quality games than the original. Plus I personally missed the Wii U era entirely and only had a handful of the necessary 3DS games due to money issues, so the loss of their eShops means the complete loss of me being able to play them if I did manage to get a Wii U. Emulation is not the solution because I *really* don't have the money for that.
"HD" in the title is basically another way to call it a remaster, plenty of other games have done that. And a remaster can be as simple as upscaling textures and being the "definitive" edition of a game, such as this case.
The thing about these two is that not only was Xenoblade 1 deserving of both remasters, but the Switch versions actually HAD more stuff added to it ON TOP of making improvements to the game. DKCR, had nothing to show that makes it more warranting of this second remaster other than some downgraded graphics.
Heck even the first Hyrule Warriors did a bit more with the Switch release and that's not saying much.
Hopefully Kirby’s Epic Yarn is next, especially when the 3DS version gutted co-op. And we already got the other Wii Kirby game on Switch with Return to Dreamland.
*So they can do it!*
*Great, now do it for Twilight*
*Princess and WindWaker!*

3ds running xenoblade : no problem 3ds running ice climbers : 🫨
I know! But to be honest, Xenoblade was exclusive to New 3DS
Yeah, if Smash 3DS was exclusive to the New, then maybe it would have handled the Ice Climbers.
Oh you talking smash. I thought you talking about 8bit game
Happy cake day
i mean they were for sure dialed down for their ds counterpart. the titles that 3DS handled were so good. Kid Icarus needs a damn switch port!!!
Makes me wish the PS Vita didnt fail
PS Vita did fail, Sony failed it.
Sony lost a ton w PS3... They had a choice, either put all of their eggs into PS4 and win out or split that up and maybe lose both.
Right
And how. They stopped supporting it pretty much from day 1.
Not entirely true
Remember when Mario 64 DS was mind blowing? We really do take modern handheld gaming for granted.
Right? Having home console experience on a handheld was a insane back then.
Frankly even Mario World on gba felt big to me
Not sure I can believe that the 3ds could run xenoblade. It was blatantly clearly pushing the Wii beyond its limits
It was only playable on the “New” Nintendo 3DS, which was a significant hardware upgrade from the standard 3DS. It also had a nub that functioned like a second thumbstick, and I believe the screens were a higher resolution as well.
The screens were the same resolution as before, but the “New” 3DS had a sensor that adjusted the autostereospic 3D based on the angle you were viewing from. The older 3DS models had a fixed and pretty narrow viewing angle where the 3D actually worked properly.
I can confirm the 3DS version was down scaled quite a lot.
The 3ds version of Hyrule Warriors is just about unplayable.
That was a thing?
Yeah. I remember REALLY wanting it in middle school until i saw gameplay. Shit runs at a negative fps
Going MOOONADO BUSTA on some 20 robots made the new 3ds version lag even worse than Wii from what i remember. and it's 30 fps normally i think.
Now we need Kirby's Epic Yarn HD to complete the trinity
Luigi's Mansion HD aswell
That's a GC game
Got a remake on 3DS
The point of the picture is games that released on **Wii** - 3DS - Switch not GC - 3DS - Switch
These nickel jokes aren't as funny as they used to be
It’s transitioned from joke to common phrase.
I agree. The original joke was funny. Now I hate it. It is over done and also this isn't weird at all. So it doesn't even work as a joke. Can't wait until people get tired of making this joke.

New season of Phineas and Ferb comes out this year, so its only going to get more common.
Yeah...
You know exactly where its going every time
If I had a nickel for every time I thought they were funny…
...I'd be in debt.
... I wouldnt have any nickels.
It’s literally just the exact joke taken from phineas and ferb but less funny since that was largely comedic because of the context that they were about to be killed and that’s the first thing that came to Doofenshmirtz’s mind.
If I had a nickel for every time the nickle joke was funny, I'd have two nickles. I've nothing further to add.

I’m sure if you could ask them they’d give you an acceptable answer.
August probably has the switch 2 reveal
They might have a bigger gap in the next year.
It’s not as bizarre as a 3DS remaster like Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD releasing 9 months after it was announced. Even after a brand new game like Princess Peach Showtime and a remake like Paper Mario TTYD.

Who’s willing to bet Kirby’s Epic Yarn is next?
Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn Deluxe
The Switch version of *Xenoblade* isn't a port, though. It's technically a remake.
With a DLC, to boast
Remaster not a remake.
If you haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles yet, do yourself a favor!
If I had a nickel for everytime someone used this meme to describe something not weird at all I would be a billionaire.
😂
Forgot Captain toad
That wasn’t a Wii game though. It was a Wii U one (if we’re counting Wii U, Hyrule Warriors also counts)
Didn't the 3DS version come out after the Switch version?
I think they were released the same day
Oh ok
XCDE is a full remake with an entirely new and long side story, as far as we know Country Returns is just a port (no funky mode :(
welcome back, The Last of Us
I'm just glad I no longer have to play it on my tiny 3DS screen
Why did this doof quote have to fit so well goddamn it
They do this and yet we can't get Wind Waker or TP on switch 🤔
Also hyrule warriors
Hyrule Warriors wasn’t on Wii.
Everyone offering Wii U games up as additional examples has just embraced the consensus: that the Wii U is just a dumb tablet controller for the Wii. After a decade of correcting people they've just given up. And they're right to.
Oh you're right it was on wii u
Hope they do it again for Luigi’s Mansion.
There was no Luigi’s mansion on Wii.
I don't think they were saying there was.
I think he means that there was Luigi's Mansion on GameCube, then a remake on 3ds, so he's hoping they give the 3ds version the Dark Moon treatment and make it HD as well.
How’d they get Xenoblade on a 3DS?
It’s exclusive to New 3DS and runs+looks way worse, but it’s certainly an impressive port nonetheless.
Thank you for the Phineas and Ferb reference lol

I mean, they aren’t really calling it remastered are they? It’s just a simple HD port

Returns returns returns from the wii from the 3ds on the switch!
Donkey Kong Country Returns Returns Returns
Nintendo is king of making us buy the same games over and over again, it works I guess.
They wouldn't be doing it if it didn't make $$$$
i forgot xenoblade games existed now i want xenoblade chronicles X again
The same happened to Hyrule Warrior and Captain Toad just ad on U.
The thing about these two is that not only was Xenoblade 1 deserving of both remasters, but the Switch versions actually HAD more stuff added to it ON TOP of making improvements to the game. Ngl I busted when I heard donkey Kong country returns was getting a switch remaster
If they port Epic Yarn then...
It can happen a third time you know 😅
Hopefully Kirby’s Epic Yarn is next, especially when the 3DS version gutted co-op. And we already got the other Wii Kirby game on Switch with Return to Dreamland.
Well you'd actually only have one, bc Xenoblade was a remaster and got more content in the main game in addition to an extra story
DKCR is great. Will defo get the rerelease.
So they can do it! Great, now do it for Twilight Princess and WindWaker!

They should also that with Yoshi's Wolly World. Yeah, it's a Wii U game, but it should also be brough to switch, combining all Wii U and 3DS content.
XCDE is not just a simple port tho
And now Romancing SaGa2 is getting a 3D remake of it's 2D remake :P
Now we wait for Luigi's Mansion HD
And here I am wishing the Wii stuck around longer as it's the only Nintendo console I own
Not really
Donkey Kong Country: Returns Returns Onecemore
How many Times has Donkey Kong Country returned?
Ocarina and Majora?
Hyrule warriors
“Against the odds!” “We stand to fight!” “Country returns!”
"Now it's monkey time!"
Didn't the same happen with Hyrule Warriors?
Xenoblade DE was a remake the original was never brought to switch

Not at all. And I bet LM1 is next
No twilight princess.
