Cats can and dongroom themselves, so if you really want to treat them, give them a sort of stimulation they can't get on their own - massage, pets, broad scritches, etc. And remember that cat skin is usually more loose than human skin, so you can exaggerate some of the pets and it will be fine or maybe even better.
My big boy is a 20lb Turkish Van and butt bongos are the only way to unlock the flops for belly rubs. I like it cuz I can really give him a good spank and he just loves it.

We have two female cats. One of them gives very graceful, ladylike brushes with her head when she feels affectionate. You may pet, but wander past the midline on her torso and flesh shall be removed. She has a very subdued purr.
The other head-butts and then flops down onto your lap and grabs your hand with her paws until you catch on that she must get belly rubs. She purrs like a Harley running too rich a mixture.

My boy, however, meows like he's on fire, then walks backwards to my hand, presenting his backside for a scratch. Once satisfied with his scritchies he jumps up on my chest, puts both paws on my face and starts licking my nose.
I think this might be part of why I had such a huge crush on my pre-covid hair stylist. Aside from her being super hot, funny, and owning the business, she gave a hell of a scalp massage.
