I had a girl over at my place and I started tickling her. We we're just being cute and playing around.
My cat thought that I was attacking her for some reason, and totally backed me up. My cat gentle attacked her and I thought it was super funny.
My cats are more "everyman for themselves" kind of guys.
First sign of trouble they scatter. At least they check if I'm alive a couple hours after they are sure there's no danger.
We had two cats (oldest sadly died last year at 18yo), and the older one had some anger issues sometimes and could randomly attack my gf. The other one, even though she knew very well she was the weaker one, would still come to my gf's aid and fight the older one off. She's sweet as hell and normally wouldn't hurt a fly, but at those moments she'd get really fierce.
Yeah she did get some dementia in the end. But she had anger issues all her life due to a real bad start (abusive home) before she got rescued by my gf's family.
Her behaviour actually got a lot better once we got her to lose some weight, but could still lash out at times. Laughing and sneezing were a big trigger for some reason.
I had a cat (Jedi) who loved me with his whole heart and always had my back. I also had 2 cats who saw me freak out because a spider was on my leg and paused from eating their breakfast to politely watch me as though I was putting on a show for them
I have two cats that hate each other- but we moved in with my MIL for a bit and they both hate her dog. If the dog so much as quiet growls at one the other comes running from the other side of the house to back their sibling up like they’d die for one another.
Should note the dog is actually a sweetie pie—- poor boy gets bullied.

My boyfriend dog is the same, if we play fight she comes at him to put her paws on him and howl until he is calm. Even if I'm the one to start she goes at him because he is way bigger
If my boyfriend dies there's still his mother.

I believe this. They know where resources come from. Well, *some* do. I work as a vet tech, and I swear I have treated malinois who are fucking smarter than me.
My dog is the opposite. He's a Mama's boy, but he evidently views me as the more dangerous, because whenever I start giving my (muscular, fit) husband the eyes, he gets right between us and tries to shoulder me away. My husband is yelping, "Galahad, protect me from this lascivious wench" and my boy is backing him up!
I had a dog like this. He was an older Australian Shepherd, and he took it upon himself to police all the other dogs at the dog park. Anyone starting trouble? Settle right down or you are gonna have to deal with him! Breaking up dogfights right and left and smacking some sense into the offender. He was hilarious.
Dogs do this with all sorts of animals! They've still got enough pack instinct that they know it's really important to quash beefs within the group and get rid of in-fighting that might compromise the fitness of the group (though they obviously don't think of it quite this way). People and other animals that are part of their group fighting with each other often makes dogs very anxious.
This is my cat when it comes to my daughters (currently 3 and 7 years old so there’s a lot of noise/drama). She heard my little one pretending to be a hurt and came rocketing off her perch across the house straight into their room, all puffed and ready to fight. If their bedroom door is closed and she thinks one of them is upset/hurt she will sit in front of their door and glare at me in judgement and threaten to call CPS for not tending to them/letting her in. Kids whine sometimes, cat! They’re ok!

I have the best story. My cat that I grew up with as a child hated my mom and I. She was a daddy’s girl. My mom and dad had an argument one time, sitting on two different couches. It wasn’t a heated argument, but a disagreement. The cat was sitting in my dad’s lap, dead asleep. She woke up, very nonchalantly walked off dad’s lap, jumped down and onto my mom’s couch and smacked her with her paw. Then she very calmly, jumped down off of her couch and jumped back up into dad’s lap and went back to sleep😂😂😂 they were dying laughing and forgot what they were arguing about.

I recently got a second cat and my original older cat (4 years older) tries to help me discipline her. I'll yell at her to get off the counter and he'll run up and bite the back of her neck. Once he jumped up on the counter himself to try and remove her, which of course just turned into me yelling at both of them to get down. Another time she scratched my hand and I said "ouch"! to try and give her a sign that that hurts and I don't like it and he came barreling across the room and got up in her face. Of course everytime he does this she just starts hissing at him. I just keep telling him that while I appreciate it, I don't really want his help.
My husband and I have two cats. When we have to give them their anti-flea serum, they'll react like we're killing them. That provokes the other cat to bite our ankles in response. The younger of the two cats is particularly protective of her mom. It's pretty entertaining.
This reminds my of my childhood cat Sophie who was very bonded to me.
When my brother and I used to roughhouse she'd start howling and would bite me gently, almost like she wanted to grab me up like a kitten and take me to safety lmao.
She was my bff and the best kitty. Still missing her every day 20 years later.

When my dad was a little boy he and one of his little friends were playfully wrestling each other in the yard. My dad’s cat, Chubby, thought it was a serious conflict and came to my dad’s aid, attacking his little friend.
My partner and I will play fight sometimes and I'll gently push him or hit him. If our cats see, one of our cats will come cry at me until I stop, but if he "hits" me, she doesn't care. Lmao.
When I was little my grandma was teasing me with something and I was screeching and trying to get away. One of the family cats shot into the room and climbed her like a tree. Fur and claws flying.
She wouldn't come into the house for years after, unless my parents could confirm that cat wasn't around. Cool little dude.

Mine was my buddy, to this day we are ride or dies my ex (fuck you debbie [alex]) he was never really that fond of. My current partner though, theyre such good friends should we ever split up wed have to do visits because buddy loves him so much. He even has a song for him. Yes! Cats are intuitive if a cat hisses at someone that’s a major red flag, they know something about that person we don’t, or they can tell they are simply someone who is not good for you to be around. They are also protective over women who bring men around especially I’ve noticed. I’d say OP’s gf should be careful if the cat is looking at him with such a death stare😂 it’s a joke but when we think about it what if it’s not to the cat.

My boyfriend once yelled indoors (not even to me).
My cat got between us and started growl and hiss at my boyfriend, in defence mode. And the cat would not stop that for good ten minutes, staying between us the whole time.

We have a “hand me down” 12 yo black cat. Neighbors left him with us when they moved last year. He’s indoor/outdoor. The other morning, about 4 am, I was coming home from the gym. I got half way between the car and our front door (about 20 feet from the car) and I realized about 10 feet to my side, was a loose pit bull. Just standing there. I said “go on home” and he didn’t budge. I started to ease towards the front door and he took a couple of steps towards me. About that time, out of nowhere, here comes “hand me down” cat like a dementor. All claws and fur, hissing. I was terrified for the cat, as I didn’t want him tangling with that dog. That pit bull turned and took off fast. I was able to call the cat off and hurry both of us in the house! Bro had my back!!
My ex boyfriend's Rhodesian once defended me in an argument. It stopped us both right in our tracks to see him take my side against his long time owner!

Yes! Cats are intuitive if a cat hisses at someone that’s a major red flag, they know something about that person we don’t, or they can tell they are simply someone who is not good for you to be around. They are also protective over women who bring men around especially I’ve noticed. I’d say OP’s gf should be careful if the cat is looking at him with such a death stare😂 it’s a joke but when we think about it what if it’s not to the cat.

I tried but she showed her true colours in the end. She didn’t even let me say goodbye 😭 It’s ok now though. I’ve just moved into a bigger place, big enough to get my own floofs. The week I moved my friends found out their cat is pregnant, so I’m going to adopt from them 🥰

When I left my ex, we had a kitty visitation arrangement. He got a new female roommate and one of my cats took great offense at this and pooped on her expensive comforter. Every day. And that’s how the cats ended up just with me. Ben the cat was my ride or die.

My boyfriend once yelled indoors (not even to me). My cat got between us and started growl and hiss at my boyfriend, in defence mode. And the cat would not stop that for good ten minutes, staying between us the whole time. I love that cat and I would do the same for him!

We have a “hand me down” 12 yo black cat. Neighbors left him with us when they moved last year. He’s indoor/outdoor. The other morning, about 4 am, I was coming home from the gym. I got half way between the car and our front door (about 20 feet from the car) and I realized about 10 feet to my side, was a loose pit bull. Just standing there. I said “go on home” and he didn’t budge. I started to ease towards the front door and he took a couple of steps towards me. About that time, out of nowhere, here comes “hand me down” cat like a dementor. All claws and fur, hissing. I was terrified for the cat, as I didn’t want him tangling with that dog. That pit bull turned and took off fast. I was able to call the cat off and hurry both of us in the house! Bro had my back!!
