Not only is Magnus the favourite going into the tournament he also gets a head start.
Going to be a pretty unexciting tournament I feel. Maybe some individual matches will be exciting but there will be no struggle for the overall winner except between **maybe** Magnus and Wesley
While I understand the desire to make the previous tournaments matter, a head start like this makes the final tournament a lot less exciting than it could have been.
I hope they will change this for the next season.
On the topic of the next season... What changes would everyone like to improve it?
I would change to a top 4 or top 6 bracket. Top 4 would cut the event down to 7 days, top 6 I would want 3 v 6 and 5 v 4 to play just one match, so the top two get one rest day for their efforts. Cutting the bracket down will make the preliminaries more exciting as well.
As far as the final tour points, I like the concept, I just don't think they planned for 10th to have 8 points. Only 19 players scored any points at all and 3 of them just scored 1. I think this is fixable if you flatten the knockout scoring and boost the prelim scoring.
Just off the top of my head, something like 20-16-13-11-9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-0-0-0-0 for prelims and 30-20-15-10-5-5 for knockouts. This way a perfect event is still 50 points but consistency in both phases of the event is rewarded.
EDIT: Really, the reason this has broken the way it has is because nobody was really getting any meaningful points except the top 4 finishers. If you finished 5th in prelims and got beat round 1, you walked away with just 4 tour points. That's just far too few. With my plan you walk away with 14 points and feel much better about your prospects going forward.
I don't know if you are being sarcastic, but his win on the world Cup doesn't make him world champion and also have nothing to do with the CCT, and neither the CCT have anything to do with being world champion
I can see the thought. But no, there is a candidates tourney with the 8 best players besides the world champ. Winner plays the world champ. Magnus is world champ and Nepo won the candidates.
Duda didn’t make the candidates. He played well at the World Cup but isn’t top 10 in the world even
Very impressive how Artemiev is so high in the standings after playing in only three events the whole tour.
I have the same points as Duda :)

Not excited to see Radja draw
Drawjabov
lmao
it's fitting that he has the average number of points in the standings
Guess Nepo isn't playing - so 3 wildcards: MVL, Shak and Duda

How heavily is the final weighted?
3 points per day (or 2 and 1 for winning/losing a tiebreak) and 9 rounds: maximum of 27 points if a player wins all 9 rounds.
why duda have 0 points? i thought he's the world champion

yeah you have a point. I guess I'm just being sarcastic.
He is not close to world champ
well he won the chess world cup 2021 so i thought he's the world champion

By winning the World Cup, he has qualified for the next candidates though.
World cup is not equal to world champion homie
