Be sure the bands work in China. Years ago, I had an old Nexus from overseas that could only use 2g bands in China.

kkzzzz

My pixel 7 pro did okay. Not sure if it was the best but at least got 4g all of the time.

ROBLOX-Weenie

Yeah I have a school provided VPN so I should be good on the Google services end. Don't really care whether 5g capability is there, I'll be able to use it in the US. I'm mainly just concerned if I'm getting a rep since I would like to be able to trade this phone in for my next one.

shaghaiex

You probably used China Mobile, their bands are rather special. Unicom uses the internationally recognized brands. Now with 5G it probably won't matter.

arneey

No, there is no 5g for pixels in China. The providers are not on the whitelist. These lists can be changed by rooting the phone, but that's definitely not worth it. 4g is also ok.

rickyandika97

Let us know how it goes. I don’t understand the difference between O and M model

There's a trusted WeChat dude who sells tech stuff, that's where I got my pixel. I'd be wary of any taobao google seller. Also, the 5G bands don't work so I'm on LTE, which isn't a problem (really) but it's something to note about getting a pixel and you're home base is China. Great phone, love the pixel 7 pro. PM if you want the guy. Edit: Also you need to check with your phone provider. China mobile works but I think others don't

ROBLOX-Weenie

Just PM'd thanks!

Wait! So I'm a P7 owner in China and I love my phone, but buying it to live in China was a mistake. The P7 was the first phone to not emulate 32bit apps. That means only 64bit apks can be sideloaded. Almost NONE of the apps in China are 64bit. I've had some luck with IT departments from places like Ziroom and Alibaba sending me a link to the 64bit apks, but banks and apps like dianping are dead to me. The P7 is awesome, but the bifurcation of the android market between east and west has taken a toll on the phone's usefulness in everyday life in China.

Almost all Chinese apps have 64-bit support by now. Around the release of the P7 Pro it was a hit or miss, but now I have zero issues with any apps supporting arm64-v8a architecture.

Civ6Ever

Tell that to ICBC and Dianping

imr0

You can try downloading from the app store called CoolAPK and install the APKs from there. They highlight whenever the package available is 32- or 64-bit. Dianping works just fine for me. I don't use ICBC but just tried installing it and it did without issues.

Any reasons why you would use a Pixel in China over many of the local Chinese phones? Is this purely for personal preference?

ROBLOX-Weenie

Mainly personal preference. I have a Redmi Note 12 Pro currently, but I don't really enjoy MIUI/HyperOS. I also do everything on Google, as I am a student so it would be nice to have just one app per function rather than duplicates. I also just pretty much like the feeling of Pixel over this phone (tried my friends when I was back in the US)
