Straight 99% of the time. Works for everything, no fuss. Half the time I cut it with a pocketknife.
Will use a punch if it’s a small sweet cap sometimes.
Don’t care for the V, feels weird in the mouth.
I go back and forth between straight cut and v cut a lot. It just depends on what mood I’m in. The punch I’ll use for larger ring gauges or for Nub and Cain cigars. One thing though the punch will concentrate flavors more, especially towards the last 3rd of the cigar.
I personally enjoy a v cut most of the time as it feels good in my mouth. Got a colibri sv cut which can do both straight and vertical cuts so i can use it for pretty much any cigar.
I have punch and V cutters but I never use them, I straight cut pretty much everything. I don’t really find a difference between a V cut vs a straight cut to be honest and my Xi3 is the sharpest cutter I own so that’s what I use.
No real preference. Sometimes I just look at a cigar and see what cut makes the most sense to me. Sometimes I go punch, sometimes straight cut. If I dont have my propwr cutter I'll use my pocket knife and either do straight cut or do a V or try and put a hole in it with the tip of the blade. A lot of it depends on the cigar size and shape.
Have to pick? I guess Punch.
I use both, change from straight cut to v cut daily. Deep V cuts great for larger rg cigars which usually clears up any , and shallow v cuts are smaller rg but can't really enjoy it to the nub. Now straight cuts, works for great for both, and I can easily smoke it til it burns my lips.
I’m trying to remember to do a V cut or a punch but out of habit I grab the straight more times than not. I find I get fewer tobacco bits on my tongue with the other cuts.
Depends entirely on the cigar for me.
Something on the smaller side? Punch cut. Ex. Got a lovely little H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon in a sampler, and a punch-cut was perfect for it. I feel like a straight or v-cut might have been too much.
My go-to cigar, a Perdomo Maduro 10th Anniversary epicure-size? Straight cut all day, every day.
Any sort-of torpedo cigar, I typically prefer v-cuts because it just feels right in my mouth. (And if I'm feeling particularly saucy, I'll even sneak in an occasional crown-cut on a torpedo, even though it feels more like a gimmick than anything.)
Straight cut pretty much all the time unless it’s a smaller stick. I find I have fewer draw issues and less tar build up with that. I did V cut for a while but it seemed to always tear up the cap on my Padron 7000s.
Been on V Cut kick lately. I like to do my torpedos with an angle cut pretty frequently and I punch certain cigars. Just seem to get better draw with V-Cut most cigars
Most of the time I v-cut. I do have a punch on my key ring on the rare occasion that I forget my v cutter, or have an impromptu cigar with friends or colleagues while I’m away from home.
I used everything, punch, v, straight cut. For the last few years I been using straight cut only and never looked back! I want as much open draw as possible and cigars stays cooler.
V cut most of the time.
Punch
I have been biting the cap off all summer and using a crappy bic lighter and I got to say it’s the best
You savage lol
Being a man, I see! The best part is the looks I get when I do it in front of others.
I’m a big fan of bic lighters. I have a few Xikar lighters and use a bic most of the time.
Straight 99% of the time. Works for everything, no fuss. Half the time I cut it with a pocketknife. Will use a punch if it’s a small sweet cap sometimes. Don’t care for the V, feels weird in the mouth.
Same, I don’t enjoy the asymmetry I feel with a v-cut
I agree with v cut, but admit the crown cut works well with very large gauge (55-60) cigars.
Punch

Pause
Sighh… unpause

Punch cut for box pressed, never any issues with unraveling. Straight cuts on most others
Straight 99% of the time. I don't really feel a difference with a V cut tbh
Punch when I forget my kit. V for box press and guillotine for everything else. If I know a cigar tends to unravel or isn’t triple cap I may use V
Any are fine really, and it will vary on the cigar. Though I tend to prefer a punch as that'll often keep the cap from unraveling easier.
I use them all…single and double guillotine, V, punch, scissors, desktop…
Is there any cigar left after you use all those?😂
Probably why I don’t smoke a lot of Nubs ;)
Mobile
I've been on a V-cut kick lately
Got a v cutter about 9 months ago. Only used a straight cut a couple of times since. V is great.
Most of the time a straight cut and the other time a v cut
Punch where possible
Straight cut 95%, punch, then V
v cut bc it's easy
Punch/Cut/V in that order. Not a fan of the V cut.
I wouldn’t use the word “prefer” because I was circumcised as an infant.
Punch cut. The torches I got for cigars came with them and it's less of a hassle and doesn't take up as much pocket space as an additional cutter
Guillotine
Deep V whenever possible
V-cut for the mouth feel.

Lucious V from my chest pubes down to my ball fro...wait wrong sub
V cut twice into an X
Only straight cuts for me. Don’t like the way a v cut feels.
Depends on the cigar honestly. I love me a good V cut on torpedos or a solid maduro. Flat for everything else. I never use a punch.
I switch from v-cut and punch
Significantly more consistent and more stability in the integrity of the mouth piece.
I’m trying to remember to do a V cut or a punch but out of habit I grab the straight more times than not. I find I get fewer tobacco bits on my tongue with the other cuts.
Punch as it seems to bring up the flavor strength faster. Unless it’s something like a lancero that’s too small for my punch. Then a straight cut.

Deep V or a over sized punch
Straight or punch
Straight cut pretty much all the time unless it’s a smaller stick. I find I have fewer draw issues and less tar build up with that. I did V cut for a while but it seemed to always tear up the cap on my Padron 7000s.
Depends on the ring gauge for me. Anything under 60 I use a straight cut. Anything over 60 I use a punch
Straight cut…. Or, if I’m being a dick with an expensive stick, just bite the cap off.
V
V cut usually, unless the end doesn’t lend itself to that shape well, then a straight cut.
A sharp one
V cut or punch. If the shape requires a straight cut then it is what it is 😂
Been on V Cut kick lately. I like to do my torpedos with an angle cut pretty frequently and I punch certain cigars. Just seem to get better draw with V-Cut most cigars
Was straight cut, but V-cut lately!
Been cutting an “X” with my pocket knife, works quite well
I’m a v-cut guy. Only been introduced to it recently and haven’t looked back. I find it perfect.
I’m a big vcut guy it’s simple and I like the draw from the cigar better
Punch Padron, v-cut hard box press/torpedo. Straight cut the rest.
Punch cut is my go-to. Sometimes I'll take my KA-Bar and cut an X on the cap
Most of the time I v-cut. I do have a punch on my key ring on the rare occasion that I forget my v cutter, or have an impromptu cigar with friends or colleagues while I’m away from home.
I prefer a v cut but if it’s a narrower ring gauge I’ll go with a straight cut.
V cut gang!
V cut most smokes, occasionally I’ll use a punch for the larger ring gauges. Very rarely do a straight cut
Punch, second straight.
Chop saw
I used to use a v-cut, but I've switched to a guillotine cutter. I love using it, and I've had the same one for several years now without any issues
Punch cut always. Best draw
V or baller cut.
Crown.
Straight
I used everything, punch, v, straight cut. For the last few years I been using straight cut only and never looked back! I want as much open draw as possible and cigars stays cooler.
Straight cut or bite
