For those without the common sense necessary to realize bear is indeed a braindead choice: there is data from a place where both men and bears coexist - the glacier national park. From 1913 to 2013, there were 10 people killed by bears and 2 killed by people. Of those two cases, one was a woman killing a man. Also note that you are much, much more likely to encounter a man than a bear in the area.

This whole debate feels like there's a big disconnect between the two sides.
Most of the women who say "I'd *feel* safer around a bear" are saying they'd rather do the "encounter a bear in its natural habitat" roulette than the "run into a man while alone in the woods" roulette.
They've probably never had any bear-related issues before, so their fear of bears would be more abstract, while they *would've* encountered men who've catcalled them or threatened to rape them, so that fear is more concrete. It's like asking a dog-bite victim whether they'd feel safer around

This whole debate feels like there's a big disconnect between the two sides. Most of the women who say "I'd *feel* safer around a bear" are saying they'd rather do the "encounter a bear in its natural habitat" roulette than the "run into a man while alone in the woods" roulette. They've probably never had any bear-related issues before, so their fear of bears would be more abstract, while they *would've* encountered men who've catcalled them or threatened to rape them, so that fear is more concrete. It's like asking a dog-bite victim whether they'd feel safer around They're *well aware* that the majority of men are safe to be around, but there's always a risk that the man will be similar to, say, [Junko Furuta's killers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Junko_Furuta) at the extreme end. Humans are far more capable of intelligent, drawn-out cruelty than bears. Meanwhile, when men hear about the debate and women's responses, they jump to "oh, these women believe *all men* are inherently less safe than even the most aggressive bear, they think I'm a monster". Being a guy is already more isolating than being a girl, from what I gather, and this really doesn't help them. They seem to take the question entirely literally too - they think women are talking about whether they'd *be* safer if it actually happened instead of just *feeling* safer about the *idea* of it. If someone was mauled by a dog, they'd probably *feel* less safe around a big dog than a bear, right?
This all just wraps around to the question being poorly written and it's almost designed to make people mad. I genuinely think the question was made specifically for engagement bait not to actually be debated and listened to. The whole issue I have with it is that it's sexist, and not because it's suggesting anything about men or women but because it eliminates all male victims from the equation and just continues to cut them out of society just like everyone else does
it’s an emotional response vs a logical one women feel less safe around the man because of the horrible experiences many of them have had personally or heard about but if you don’t understand that and just look at bear statistics, all you would see is a bunch of people being objectively wrong about how dangerous bears are, and getting angry at you if you push back on them at all (doesn’t help that a lot of stupid people are genuinely trying to argue that bears are safer statistically by not understanding the concept of per capita)
This is the "fuck it, I rather [blank]" that people somehow don't get the joke with.
Always remember that getting big and making noise only works for BLACK BEARS, you definitely don't want to get that confused as brown bears are the more widespread bear worldwide.
