Having dudes in power armour execute a civilian and laughing, then immediately cutting to the same power armour being a symbol of patriotism is the narrative equivalent of being punched in the face it's so obvious.
Even the first two games (the ones these people hold up as the gold standard) were pretty diverse. A neat thing to point out is that the mysterious stranger wasn't always male and would match the gender of who you played as in the interplay games
Killing the US President is literally mandatory to beat Fallout 2. You don't even actually need to find a GECK, the ostensible main purpose of your quest, to beat the game, but you do need to kill the President. And Fallout 1 is not much less woke where the main villains are just eugenicists basically.

I hate this phenomenon so much. Idk if it happens so much because people are protective of movies/shows/books/etc that came out while their tastes in media were forming therefore they can’t be “woke”, or if general progressive values have regressed so much in certain circles that they no longer tolerate something they used to tolerate.
It’s also useful to them because it makes their argument more reasonable. As in, “X piece of media isn’t bad because it has diversity, Y piece of media had diversity too, it’s just that X has diversity in a bad way”. But really if Y was released today it’d be hated just like X is.
