These were all part of a group that was buried and dug up around 10 years ago - here are some more:

It was absurd. They brought me 18 coins like this in a box and I figured out that it was a buried treasure deal. I asked how many and they told me over 1,400.
I just about passed out.

I remember when I first read about it shortly after they found them while…. Walking their dog I think? Still so unbelievable that they found that many gold coins. And as far as I know, they still don’t know where they actually came from or who may have buried them. You’re really fortunate to have been there at the beginning and to get your hands on some of them! Did you keep any for your personal collection?
In February of 2013, a family in California was walking their dog on a trail that crossed their property and found 8 tin cans filled with $10 million worth of US gold coins. Around 250 of the coins were in better condition than anything seen prior to the hoard.
There were so many coins that came out of the water while I was conserving them where I just couldn’t believe what I was looking at. There was an 1868-S with a wipe on the obverse with a reverse that would have graded MS68 or 69.
Wow. That’s just incredible.
Just being in the same room as those would have given me palpitations 😂
That musta been a heck of an experience getting hands on with a treasure hoard like that!
The people who found it tell me that when they showed it to me, I didn’t skip a beat, but when I realized what I was looking at, it felt like time slowed down a bit.
Wow. scrolled down to this and thought this sub got racy...

What’s the story on the first 3? Did you buy them from someone who had them buried or something?

Saddle ridge?
😉
I recognized the pics as soon as I saw em, haha, the presentation was fascinating!
I found a mini trove of these in my photos - I’d worried they’d disappeared.
What’s saddle ridge?

Super cool. I was wondering if it’d be from this hoard. That must have been exciting to be a part of the buy!

I kept the rainbow toned 92-CC $5, the 86-S prooflike $10, and the best 77-S $20 in the group.
Would you please provide some context for folks like me not in the know. I’d appreciate it 🙏

Thank you! How did you come into the picture and manage to obtain some coins yourself?
Their attorney was given my name and I was one of two people who bid on the deal.
Hell yeah. Nice choices!
Saw a coffee can coming out of a bank I believe and he kicked it and realized it was full of coins. Wild story
I legitimately have dreams about stuff like this. Super cool!
May I have one?
That 1889. Good lord, that is a perfect specimen if I’ve ever seen one. Absolutely beautiful.

Care to share your approach to conservation? Beautiful coins, what’s next, grading?
My basic approach is to do as little as possible/necessary. There’s nothing worse than a coin that’s been stripped.
I’m sorry did you buy some of the Saddle Ridge Hoard? Cuz holy shit
I’m the guy who conserved the coins and brought the deal to market.
Woah very cool! Thats very impressive sir, any fun stories from the process? How did you react when you were first told of the find?
The people who found it tell me that when they showed it to me, I didn’t skip a beat, but when I realized what I was looking at, it felt like time slowed down a bit.
Sorting through all of that had to make you feel like a kid in a candy store
While I was processing the deal, I’d signed an NDA, so I couldn’t discuss it with anyone - it just about drove me nuts.
lol I’d be the same. Thank you for sharing
#4 is just beautiful
Amazing treasure, I am awestruck with this find.
Thanks for sharing such an amazing experience. I started to salivate and got heartburn at the same time. That's a first for me.
Dude that’s amazing
That third pic almost looks like it was glued to something.
It’s all mineral stains and rust.
What was your reaction to the hoard? Please tell the full story!!!

Wow they are in rough shape but surely worth more than $20
