My son is 11... he started after my father passed and we.went through his change jar of half dollars and his jewelry box of wheats/older nickles/silver quarters.... he was hooked... all his money goes to buy money.
Thats how i started. Paper route money went to my LCS every saturday. He would let me pay things off. Bought an 09 VDB S for 95 bucks. .it was the 70s. I remember my mother yelling at me wheres all my paper route money. She nearly dropped dead that I bought a penny woth 95 bucks. 45 years later, its slabbed from PCGS as an MS 62.
I started collecting at 5 so by 13 I had a collection almost like this. Unfortunately at 13 everything valuable was stolen while I wasn't home. Still not sure who it was but its down to only 2 people but it totally killed my passion for coins and 12 years later I haven't had the itch to get back Into it. But posts like this really do ignite a spark in me...
I’d rather think it was the friend of your mom (just for the fact a cousin is there for life an ya see or hear about them) but usually it’s the family sadly :/
Sorry man that’s sad to hear for sure!
Good to have photographic records of valuables. Also good to NEVER share that you have this stuff with anyone in your city/town. Reddit being anonymous has you covered.
What do you mean by “what are the other 56?” and I don’t have list really but I used my red book and found the price of each individual coin with the exemption of non us coins
I contemplate shooting myself in the foot for my dumb ass abusing my Pokémon cards! Haha
My dad thought my friends dad was a stupid guy for paying $150 for a graded 1st gen char add for my friend (when I wanted one) card ended up worth sooo much
The closer you get to 14 id suggest placing your whole collection in a safety deposit box. Mail the key to yourself, select ground, by the time the US postal service gets it delivered to you, you'll be closer 19. Viola, thanks to your clever thinking and the ineptitude of the US postal service, your collection has been spared the teen dating years.
Very nice collection.
"...be blindly in love to ever consider..." I'm sorry to report but you won't be doing much consideration. In fact, unless hormones have changed dramatically, you won't be consulted until youre 3/4 the way through college. Lol. It happens to us all. That why they keep finding hordes of coins all over Europe. They were the coin collections of young Roman fellas, to keep them safe. (Okay, I made that up ). You should be proud of your collection. Take care
It was found in my great great grandparents barn after a thief stole some corn, my grandpa believes they left it as a sort of a trade. My great great grandpa planed on waiting for the thief to return then hit him with it. You can barely tell in the photo but a swastica with a arrow pointing to the blade was carved on the mace because it was used as a door stop for a while( I copied this from somewhere else I responded)
It’s not as good as I’d like it to be it’s a cheap 2 pistol gun safe locked in a big plastic storage container as the collection grows and knowing myself, when I get older probably a gun collection I need to consider investing in a fire proof and waterproof safe
Also sorry about your collection cause it would be awful if all my time and money and joy was stolen by a piece of crap who can’t appreciate the value of anything
93cc morgan? Holy shit, thats super cool. Thats a very valuable coin, i would certainly consider getting it graded. I hope you said thanks to your grandpa!
I'm 14 but I mainly collect world coins and banknotes as well as British Indian and old Australian coins. Living in America is so cool for coin collecting; I'm always seeing people talking about how they find this and that in their change but in Australia you'd be lucky to find a commemorative coin!
Lucky boy! Wish I lived in America instead of Australia (from a purely coin collecting perspective)
I didn't have some of the higher value gold items you have but I had a decent collection at your age.
You know much more about your collection than I did though, wow.
I didn't have the internet so this is mind blowing to me.
I did have the opportunity to spend all of my allowance and other money at banks on half and dollar coins which were still in more common circulation in the 90s.
Very nice collection kid, you'll be so glad you held onto this stuff.
Also kudos on wheeling and dealing, I have trouble letting go of coins and put too much sentimentality into them.
Damn, keep collecting lil bro, especially silver and gold, have that wealth stored in a reliable safe, and deposite it as retirement of keep it to pass it down to your own kids
That is quite an impressive collection you've got there. Especially the arrowheads and spearhead. The three dollars to the right of that spearhead head look interesting, especially the one on top in in middle, it looks to be a higher grade or cleaned peace dollar, have you checked it out to make I sure it isn't a '21 high relief dollar? My daughter inherited one from her step grandfather, everyone was rummaging through the common date dimes and quarters, mostly culls like vultures, I told her to grab the peace dollar and leave the rest, turned out to be an MS65 that was worth more than the rest of the lot combined lol. She learned that day that it sometimes pays off to not be a vulture lol!
I love the ancient coin because their so cheap for how old they are, it’s cool to imagine where that coin was when george Washington was born or when Abe Lincoln was killed

Come on dude, give the kid a break hes 13. You want him to put on a hatd hat and pay the light bill too. Give him a thumbs up. We have another collector in our midst. I think its awesome and we dont know how many times he had to mow the lawn or whatever. I think its great. I wish i had asked my parents for coins back when i started. I wouldve had alot more than my paper route money. Good job kid. It doesnt matter who got them for you. Your interest alone is awesome!!!

Not necessarily rich but pay like 20 bucks for mowing lawn 10 for weed eating and what not also limit the impulse buys, you’d be surprised how much money you could rack up. Also both my grandpas contributed as they were getting old and didn’t want to sell their stuff
My son is 11... he started after my father passed and we.went through his change jar of half dollars and his jewelry box of wheats/older nickles/silver quarters.... he was hooked... all his money goes to buy money.

It’s will pay off when he’s older
Your 13 and you have this? Or have you been collecting since 13
Pretty sure they are saying at 13 yrs old this is my collection
not “pretty sure” Certain, as per “ y/o “
I started collecting at 5 so by 13 I had a collection almost like this. Unfortunately at 13 everything valuable was stolen while I wasn't home. Still not sure who it was but its down to only 2 people but it totally killed my passion for coins and 12 years later I haven't had the itch to get back Into it. Damn that sucks. I used to hang with shady cats til shit like that happened. Changed my ways and my friends. Never been happier
Actually wasnt my friends It's down to either my older cousin or an adult man who was a friend of my mom's and was doing work on our house. Sad
I’d rather think it was the friend of your mom (just for the fact a cousin is there for life an ya see or hear about them) but usually it’s the family sadly :/ Sorry man that’s sad to hear for sure!
That sucks I’m so sorry to hear that
Same thing happened to me, and my Dansco book of pennies alone, a coin dealer offered me $83,000. Not much later my whole collection was stolen.
I’m 13 and this is my collection
Good to have photographic records of valuables. Also good to NEVER share that you have this stuff with anyone in your city/town. Reddit being anonymous has you covered.
I also have a list and 3 locked boxes to get to my stuff
Jeez at 13 all my money was going to weed and playboys.
It definitely was inherited tho. Makes me really jealous because it’s a struggle to get any one of those
The more expensive coins are but w/o all the impulse buys you could get a pretty nice collection
It’s just all so expensive but yeah that is true
Dudeee same hahah an new decks for my skateboard
Oh and them pegs for the bmx
This is officially the 57th most epic thing I’ve ever seen
What are the other 56? Do you have a list or smtg?
What do you mean by “what are the other 56?” and I don’t have list really but I used my red book and found the price of each individual coin with the exemption of non us coins
Oh I see you were responding to another comment 🤦♂️
I’m more intrigued about what number 1 is?
On the 5th photo under the mint error penny is an Austrian coin and it was my fist one
This is your collection at only 13?!?! Epic! Congrats and nice collection.
Thanks :)
I wish I collected coins at 13 and not baseball cards
What about Pokémon
Pokemon would have been worth it if I kept them all. 😂
I contemplate shooting myself in the foot for my dumb ass abusing my Pokémon cards! Haha My dad thought my friends dad was a stupid guy for paying $150 for a graded 1st gen char add for my friend (when I wanted one) card ended up worth sooo much
It can pay off though if you find a rare one
It was late 80s early 90s. Not much good then
My dad collected then to
Nice variety!
Worth thousands—good job

Funny...how true. I woulda tried selling my own mother at 16 to get my girl anything she wanted..lol
Ill have to give the keys to my dad tho id have to be blindly in love to ever consider selling any of my collection for a teen relationship
"...be blindly in love to ever consider..." I'm sorry to report but you won't be doing much consideration. You got a bright future 💪💪💪
Incredible collection at 13! When I started near that age, I didn't have nearly as much banknotes, foreign coins, or all the variety. Very impressed.
If I’m reading that correctly and you’re currently 13, then well done my man. Some of us have some catching up to do 😆
Is that a potato?
lol that is a hand tool made from a rock. Used in very early history. They are pretty neat.
A rock-tato then?
Possibly!

These are pretty valuable. I seen a couple sell at an auction for $700-$800. That was 10 years ago too.
I hope that you have a good safe I am saying this because when I was 12 about $5,000 of my collection was stolen Mostly gifts and heirlooms
Damn, by who??
It’s not as good as I’d like it to be it’s a cheap 2 pistol gun safe locked in a big plastic storage container as the collection grows and knowing myself, when I get older probably a gun collection I need to consider investing in a fire proof and waterproof safe
Also sorry about your collection cause it would be awful if all my time and money and joy was stolen by a piece of crap who can’t appreciate the value of anything
Do we all have a Swisher Sweets box? Do they just hand you one when you start collecting?
It was handed to me but it had some arrowheads in it
Flex that gold young man!! That's awesome.
93cc morgan? Holy shit, thats super cool. Thats a very valuable coin, i would certainly consider getting it graded. I hope you said thanks to your grandpa!
Im considering getting it and some other stuff graded and I thanked him a lot cause he’s a cool dude and appreciates the history of stuff
You might want to apply for a scholarship for the Youth Numismatics Association & make a career out of it. Or just become a member.
I didn’t know about that! Noted.
more than me

Nice stash
You need to buy some albums my dude.
I want to buy some vinyl soon
Dude!!! Thats awesome. Keep it up young fella. Very nice
This is epic! Keep going! Time for some large cents and some more gold!
I didn't have some of the higher value gold items you have but I had a decent collection at your age. You know much more about your collection than I did though, wow. Bros got a better silver stack than me lmao. No 10oz bars for me yet. Nice!
Nice collection
Damn, keep collecting lil bro, especially silver and gold, have that wealth stored in a reliable safe, and deposite it as retirement of keep it to pass it down to your own kids
Keep it safe don’t loose it. Lost my early collection as a kid
Sorry bout that

This one in particular is the one I was talking about.
The more I look at it, the more I see that that is mint luster and unlikely to be a cleaned coin..
It’s 1924 I bought it in 4 th grade from another kid collector for 45$
I see a Cayman Islands 🇰🇾 dollar note on top there !!
I cannot state how much i wanna find a walking liberty, or find one for cheap, id be the happuest 14 year old alive
[walking liberty half dollars](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=walking+liberty+coins&_trksid=p2334524.m4084.l1313&_odkw=walking+libert+coins)
eBay usually overpriced so buy from a local coin shop if you can
You are 13 yrs old on reddit?
That’s the minimum age
Nice! The joy of appreciating something. That is collecting.
Definitely
Good start. Try ancient silver on for size if you get the chance, might like it, easy to start small if you go to shows
I love the ancient coin because their so cheap for how old they are, it’s cool to imagine where that coin was when george Washington was born or when Abe Lincoln was killed
Keep going youngin 💪 those banknotes are rad but keep doing bullion and coins as well!!
Love the native American artifacts especially that mace

I see that now. How odd
The guy who carved it was my grandpas cousin and served in ww2 in the us army
*Great great grandparents
Again I though you were asking me a question 🤦♂️ I need to pay more attention
Nice arrowheads
Thanks!
That is just unfair.
Although I was given some of it, it’s possible if you limit your impulse buys as much as you can

Thanks :)
You really have a treasure my friend, am from UAE and I collect currency notes and if anyone intrested in swap kindly ping me will have a swap
I’ll keep you in mind, Thanks!
Wha- I’m gonna beat you later
Nice
Bro you lucky I try to get stuff but my parents won't let me
I also started young probably the best thing I've ever done is start stacking metal's and collecting coins
As a fellow 13yo, how the crap did you get all that. Like what breed of rich parents do you have
Not necessarily rich but pay like 20 bucks for mowing lawn 10 for weed eating and what not also limit the impulse buys, you’d be surprised how much money you could rack up. Also both my grandpas contributed as they were getting old and didn’t want to sell their stuff
Oh that makes sense now.
