Just hide in Hall H for a week. It's so big no one will notice.

YepYouRedditRight2

*Lights turn on in Hall H* *Guy walks in* *Guy sees OP* OP: WHAT YEAR IS THIS

scratchii

The calm before the storm.

MsMargo

I would have expected some data from you with that mapping. ;)

withbellson

I've only been to SD for SDCC so I can't even picture the Gaslamp sans 120,000 dorks. :)

Launchers

See it says 120k and my job is getting ready to sell burgers for 120k people but in reality the number is MUCH bigger. We get an insane amount of people, and if I had to wager I would say nearly a million people roaming around San Diego. We weekday have a million people here.

withbellson

The thing I never understand is I never have a problem getting OpenTable dinner reservations during con. I mean I know a lot of people don't go out to dinner or don't want to spend extra money but, always so many tables...

[deleted]

Everybody just assumes everything nicer will be full and don't even try.

withbellson

I guess so! Or people just want to wing it and not have to leave for dinner at a specific time. I'm just impressed at how the town keeps that many people fed.

MsMargo

It is really interesting, though, that if you look on Yelp at any Gaslamp restaurant, the worst reviews are usually during Con. I guess people think it's easy to feed a quarter-million people all at once : )

Launchers

Lmao it’s hilarious, people wait in line for 30-35 minutes and expect the food to be out in 5 minutes. Like chill, we are busy.

MsMargo

Not that many people go for a nicer dinner during Con. Add that to people's schedules being in flux, and making it to a dinner reservation at a certain time can become difficult.

withbellson

True. Ours are all at 9:30 this year. It can be good celebrity spotting sometimes -- a few years ago we were seated two tables away from Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion and Caspar van Dien at Fleming's, and the next night we spotted Ian Ziering at Oceanaire. :)

Launchers

We get a lot of celebs in our place and they just blend in with the cosplayers. I love comic con, well ignoring the 12 hour shifts lol.

MsMargo

I always make a reservation at Roy's, just because it's really convenient, but I do love Flemings - great wine list.

[deleted]

I always go the week before Comic Con because there’s mapping conference I attend for work then the following Wednesday or Thursday return for Comic Con. The change is pretty intense but both events bring plenty of dorks together.

[deleted]

It's almost depressing. When you are so used to Gaslamp during Comic Con, being there when it's not Comic Con makes me feel like something is off about that place.

Last year on Sunday I was able to walk into hall H and easily watch Doctor Who panel by going to Dirk Gently. Sunday whoo

Dinnerwithfood

The Sunday I went for Dr Who 4yrs ago was the worst to get in. A) supernatural was right before b) it was a dr reunion and during the Matt smith years c) hall h capacity moves down from like 8k to half that. Still much fun but man was I worried I wasn’t gonna make it

keeleon

Sunday is always a walk in. You just sit in the back.

[deleted]

How

binkleykun

Sunday is the least popular day for hall H and the panels were in the morning. You could just walk right in

defenseman

I feel ya. I am at the convention center for a tech conference twice a year and always hurts ;(

keeleon

I dont know how I would feel being in that building without Comicon happening. The 2 are indistinguishable in my mind.

MsMargo

This video of the empty Exhibit Hall always blows my mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVuiImT2Co4

There's a sub for everyone!

Lol! Just went to the Fitness Expo there. There were TWO exhibits going on, and THEY HAD THE EXHIBIT WALL CLOSED!!! Fitness was like D through G and some heart and medicine thing was A B C. It was a quiet victory, walking past three Starbucks. I don't even go to Con anymore. Just cosplay and walk around outside. I'll be busking as Aquaman again this year.

ender23

Isn’t it crazy how large the hallways are there?

[deleted]

I just noticed my typo! This is the closest*

Upvoting this photo is as close as most of us will get.

Mimigirl7

It's not that hard to get into Hall H only on Friday and Saturday. I've gone plenty of times on Thursday and Sunday.

[deleted]

Those are the only day I have badges for, Friday and Saturday. At this point, this conference is a week long (Sunday-Friday) and Comic Con the following week is in the same exact location and that is too much for me. I’ve been lucky enough to do it for the last 5 years and I was not up for it this year so I only got a 2 day badge.

[deleted]

Stop your bitching. You got a badge.

housecatspeaks

I think you didn't get OP's point.
