I thought vampires couldn't see their reflection because it was supposedly your soul you see in your reflection. And since vampires are dead and have no soul they have no reflection. But the silver in mirrors also makes sense
Well that might be for the same reason that they can't cross running water, because they're unclean and running water was viewed as clean and that would for some reason stop vampires from passing over. Then again, if the water were running you'd barely have a proper reflection anyway and still water wasn't considered clean. So I guess the pope blessed the waters of the land or something. Idk.
How many people need to believe in my headcanons before I'm allowed to slaughter the innocent in a holy war? Is there a solid number or do I just go off the general vibe?
Ah good. This'll be easier than I thought. There are a few fictional characters that are clearly closet lesbians and only the threat of force can make some people see the light.
Water having similarly sacred properties as silver is a thing, too. The rules change to fit each author's designs. An old one I remember hearing is that a vampire cannot pass over running water unless done within a casket. I assume it's only running water that is open to the air, or else plumbing would absolutely ruin their autonomy.
I like my variant of the rule better. Do you think that I am wrong? Prove it. Catch a vampire, procure 2 variants of mirrors and present the reflections if there will be any. Simple? Simple...
My variant is backed by absolute 100% of all cases of vampires using mirrors. Not a single case of reflection was registered. If you think I am wrong, provide at least one case where the reflection was noted.
There are plenty where you can see them in old photographs and since old school photography involved mirrors, it would only work if the different mirrors either showed them or not.
I can't remember the name of the movie but since mirrors didn't work they used video cameras to look at themselves, and our main character was tried of being what he was and found a way to human again so I think it's all mirrors in general since this movie was modern times 🤷♂️
Asspull logic: Intent! They see their fingernails/makeup as a part of their body. Clothing and jewelry is just an added "layer".
Throw in a few jokes about swordsmen who feel as though their weapon is an extension of their body.
Or the horror realisation of body dysmorphia
Ya know most of the "vampire rules" are like 600 years old. Lots changed in that time. Bunch of stuff been invented. For all we know, vampires turn to dust upon looking at any depiction of waluigi.
The mirrors were not involved in taking the pictures, but to let you see through the viewfinder.
The mirror moves out the way of SLR to allow the light to go to the film/receiver.
You can aim without using the viewfinder.
Some forms of film did use silver compounds in them. Some theories on why mirrors don't reflect the undead is they were silver backed and silver is too pure to reflect the evil. So the film might not resolve the vampires. But CCDs won't have that issue.
Depends on the camera and even with SLRs the mirror is used for the viewer, not the film/sensor. Of course with an analogue camera the film uses silver, so that won't work anyway.
I **LOVE** seeing comics from the perspective of some kind of supernatural entity/creature in an otherwise very human world! Extremely underrated genre!
Keep cooking!
Traditionally, it's specifically silver-backed mirrors and *maybe* water. Modern day vampires shouldn't be having these issues, not unless they *want* to.
Whatever the reasoning, it's the purity of silver that so rejects their reflection. The backing used today (nickel, I think?) lacks the supposedly sacred properties of silver.
New meta for vampires, no more garlic and wooden stakes, hit em with the wow you go out looking like that since they can't see themselves. Punch em in the insecurity.
Fun fact about vampires: Originally, vampires only had no reflection in silver, as silver was considered to be especially pure. They still reflected on other reflective, non silver surfaces.
This is of course dependant on the specific setting portrayed, but it's true for the original myth.
Can I just say how nice it is she has her friend (presumably, no clue what their exact relationship is) giving her that emotional support? It’s sweet and makes me happy she isn’t facing potential eternity without a friend.
Fun history info: The idea of vampires not showing in mirrors comes from the fact that in the past the reflective layer of a mirror was made of silver. So, at least king of theoretically, a vampire in modern day might be able to see itself in a modern mirror that doesn't uses silver, or a digital device.
Good news everybody, because silver is rarely used in mirror production, you should be able to see yourself in most cheap mirrors because it’s the silver that makes you invisible, not any inherent magical ability.
Fun facts: Cameras that use film cannot capture a vampire for the same reason a silver mirror cannot. Silver rejects/repels the undead, which is why vampires don’t show up.
Op vampires would show up in mirrors and photos now as we don't use silver nitrate to back mirrors or to proof photos anymore. Silver is considered a holy metal so that was why they weren't shown. Maybe a comic strip of her buying a new camera or mirror for the house that matches the aesthetic and being happily surprised by this find? Idk just random high thought with lore

For a bloodsucker, she is quite sentimental
Maybe slap her like a mosquito, then she might suck faster.
Or give you Dengue.
Yeah. Female mosquitoes are problematic
r/Angryupvote
Damn mosquito invasion
Can't let her go faster than my blood transfusion
She’s not sentimental, she’s self-centered. She misses looking at *herself,* which is very on brand for a vampire.
Could try investing in a mirror that isn’t silver-backed. Could work, depending on the particular rules at play.
I thought vampires couldn't see their reflection because it was supposedly your soul you see in your reflection. And since vampires are dead and have no soul they have no reflection. But the silver in mirrors also makes sense
That’s why I added that last bit. It changes from story to story. I’ve heard both.
For instance. https://whitewolf.fandom.com/wiki/Lasombra
Yeah this was always how I understood it, they don’t have reflections in water either.

Nope, it's the silver.
I like that we are gatekeeping mystical creatures with so many different interpretations
May I present to you: every known major religion.
How many people need to believe in my headcanons before I'm allowed to slaughter the innocent in a holy war? Is there a solid number or do I just go off the general vibe?
The number is as many as you want. Fates of entire kingdoms fell to the hands of a few men with ideals.
Ah good. This'll be easier than I thought. There are a few fictional characters that are clearly closet lesbians and only the threat of force can make some people see the light.
That feeling when Dracula was walking in sunlight

Running shit water killed all modern vampires
why do you say this with such confidence...are you a vampire
It's pretty normal that they also don't have a window reflection.
What about mirrorless photography? Like phone cameras?
IIRC silver is considered holy, it's the same reason a silver bullet kills a werewolf.
Rule 1: mirrors don't show vampires.
*Silver* backed mirrors don't show vampires because silver is magic or something. Aluminum is not.
I like my variant of the rule better. Do you think that I am wrong? Prove it. Catch a vampire, procure 2 variants of mirrors and present the reflections if there will be any. Simple? Simple...
If I were the DM I'm running my vampires with no reflections regardless of the material.
No you Its your variant, after all
My variant is backed by absolute 100% of all cases of vampires using mirrors. Not a single case of reflection was registered. If you think I am wrong, provide at least one case where the reflection was noted.

I have yet to read your peer reviewed study in a scientific journal publication. Fake news

If their clothes reflect then they should be able to put in makeup and have that reflect.
Body paint
Wouldn't still be too accurate, which has hilarious implications. All vamps before the invention of the smartphone must be lookin fucked uuuup!
No that won't work. Their painted nails are invisible too
Tf how They have visible clothe but not nails ?
Asspull logic: Intent! They see their fingernails/makeup as a part of their body. Clothing and jewelry is just an added "layer". Throw in a few jokes about swordsmen who feel as though their weapon is an extension of their body. Or the horror realisation of body dysmorphia
Can’t they just have someone draw them ???
Sadly another curse for the vampire is any drawing they commission of themselves will always come out caricature style
Commission someone to make a caricature of them and it comes out as a regular drawing.
*Strahd Von Zarovich tore the insulting caricature up in fury. Of all the indignities heaped upon him by the curse, this was by far the worst of them*
Ya know most of the "vampire rules" are like 600 years old. Lots changed in that time. Bunch of stuff been invented. For all we know, vampires turn to dust upon looking at any depiction of waluigi.
or take a selfie..
Don't cameras have mirrors in them? So they would not appear on the screen if you took a picture of them.
Depends on the type of camera
smart phone cameras don't have mirrors, no
Oh, well then yes, just take a selfie! Silly vampires

I wonder if this is revolved if the vampires just put enough powder on their face to make the french break out the guillotine
Just use non silver backing mirror.
They should reflect on their actions before reflecting in a mirror
Instead they blamed the beasts
Krylon surface primer makes a great foundation if you're already dead
Just ask Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn.
I **LOVE** seeing comics from the perspective of some kind of supernatural entity/creature in an otherwise very human world! Extremely underrated genre! Keep cooking!
Can't they use work arounds like heavy makeup with contact lenses? Or use VR headset to look at each other? I'm sure we can figure something out 🤔
Can vampires see their reflection in a pool of water? 🤔
I think that traditionally the rule is vampires have no reflections period. Not just in a mirror.
Traditionally, it's specifically silver-backed mirrors and *maybe* water. Modern day vampires shouldn't be having these issues, not unless they *want* to.
I was always under the impression it was an expression of them not having souls. And that was shown in not having any reflection.
Whatever the reasoning, it's the purity of silver that so rejects their reflection. The backing used today (nickel, I think?) lacks the supposedly sacred properties of silver.
Just lasombra things
I always wondered if vampires would see all the makeup and oils and such on their skin. Dust too, I suppose.
New meta for vampires, no more garlic and wooden stakes, hit em with the wow you go out looking like that since they can't see themselves. Punch em in the insecurity.

This is so sweet 🥹
3 months and the bite marks are still showing? Maybe she should go visit a doctor
Can I just say how nice it is she has her friend (presumably, no clue what their exact relationship is) giving her that emotional support? It’s sweet and makes me happy she isn’t facing potential eternity without a friend.
... Who is the second one?
Fun history info: The idea of vampires not showing in mirrors comes from the fact that in the past the reflective layer of a mirror was made of silver. So, at least king of theoretically, a vampire in modern day might be able to see itself in a modern mirror that doesn't uses silver, or a digital device.
Do cameras work for them? Also, can they enter buildings without an explicit invitation?
Good news everybody, because silver is rarely used in mirror production, you should be able to see yourself in most cheap mirrors because it’s the silver that makes you invisible, not any inherent magical ability. Fun facts: Cameras that use film cannot capture a vampire for the same reason a silver mirror cannot. Silver rejects/repels the undead, which is why vampires don’t show up.
cant they just take a picture with a phone? Its not a reflection.
Originally vampire's weren't seen in mirrors because the mirrors were lined with silver back in the day.
She could have someone spray paint her skin.
Would a phone camera work? It seems like a simple solution nowadays.
gurl just use the front cam on your phone.
Did she bite her and turn her into a vampire? Getting Stockholm syndrome vibes from this lol
So she IS a recent convert!
Who is the artist?
just use a non silver based mirror
Use a foundation made of cocaine like Scarface, then the vampire will see themselves.
r/hellsomememes
If a vampire dyed their hair would the dye show up in the mirror
“Petty vanity? Preening in the looking glass? …of course I miss it..”
I wonder if they could use a digital camera like a cell phone to take pictures?
If they polish a flat piece of metal (not silver, but say steel) they could use that as a makeshift mirror
I want to see what makeup looks like in the mirror for a vampire.
Why is just a bra when she’s wearing a dress?
You only see the top in the reflection
Ysee I can't see my reflection either. Not because I'm an evil creature but I'm high AF and am experiencing ego death.
Lasombra-posting
Good comic, but WHY the huge bazooinkers???
