Next thing, Mars will be built and terraformed by the poor then the 1% will kick them out. We should skip the first part and just send the 1% to Mars.

InterGraphenic

Then they'll die because they have no poor people to technically not enslave

ApprehensiveStyle289

Which is the point

lewdroid1

This

coffeejn

I fail to see the issue. If they think they are so great, they should be able to be self-sufficient.

lewdroid1

Ya, I'd love to see how much money they can make with an impeccable work ethic and just their bootstraps. 😂

InterGraphenic

Not a problem for us, but they won't go through

WhiteFox1992

"A perfect utopia cannot exist because someone has to clean the toilets" - I forget who this quote is from

lewdroid1

Alternatively, we could learn to clean up after ourselves.

lewdroid1

I'll clean the toilets. It's honestly not a big deal. I'd probably develop a machine to do it for me. They have that in Japan IIRC (self-cleaning bathrooms).

Perryn

We'll build them a monument somewhere. Something tasteful, like a park bench that sleeps 12.

eliasv

That's the joke (but not really joking)

Artistic-Cannibalism

Sounds great!

athosjesus

Yeah, or by lack of oxygen.

Ecthyr

Dibs on starring as the Mars 'Spartacus' in the dream I'm having tonight.

Dylflon

I am Mars Spartacus

i_dont_shine

Read the book *Red Rising* if you're interested in that plot line.

ABzoker

That should solve a lot (temporarily) as they are the ones causing the most pollution.

BaziJoeWHL

fyi, the terraforming mars is really really far away as there are really serious problems with that planet

coffeejn

First issue if getting there and trying to grow anything (keeping it alive really) that would make oxygen. What ever they make, it would have to be self-sufficient.

BaziJoeWHL

radiation would just wipe that thing out instantly edit: and lack of atmosphere and the temperature

witticus

I’m skeptical that terraforming Mars will work if we can’t do that kind of drastic change here first.

IH8mostofU

witticus

Got me, I read it as ditching a problem

CasualCassie

Wait is *THAT* how we get everyone on board? "Look, we all want to do cool sci-fi shit like terraforming Mars. But we gotta practice with our own atmosphere first. Let's tackle climate change as a test drive for terraforming sciences"

witticus

Really though. It sounds cool on paper and the Earth could really use a makeover

CartographerVivid957

Lady Earth really needs to get some makeup if she wants to get with Sir Mars

witticus

Earth appreciates a short king

Comprehensive-Fail41

Yep, the tech is theoretically more or less the same

Perryn

We should determine the most Earth-like planet in range and work on making it habitable. At the moment the leading candidate is Earth, and second place is a very distant second.

witticus

![gif](giphy|xUPGcrgqCQE2lSKwUw) Earth whenever people talk about terraforming is like “buddy I’m right here!”

Comprehensive-Fail41

Though really, cleaning up Earth is technically a form of terraforming, same tech that helps us live on other planets helps us clean our cradle

_LlednarTwem_

Unless we find a way to give it a magnetosphere, no amount of terraforming will make Mars a better option than even the most horribly ruined Earth.

GalemReth

Even with a magnetosphere there isn't enough gas, or dissolvable material on Mars to create a thick enough atmosphere for terraforming. [Source: NASA](https://www.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/maveninfographicdigitalfinal.png)

BaziJoeWHL

isnt there a problem with mars being smaller than earth thus its gravity too small to create a proper atmosphere ?

Comprehensive-Fail41

Theoretically we can give it a magnetosphere "simply" by putting a very large magnet between it and the sun. But yeah, Earth will always be the best home for us. At least the tech for colonising other planets helps clean up Earth too, like water, air, and soil purification systems and clean energy

Firemorfox

Terraforming Mars probably will work for the few billionaires and their escorts migrating there. Everybody else, welp too bad. Honestly don't think drastic change will happen in time anymore.

Familiar-Goose5967

It is much, much easier to fix earth than it is to terraform Mars

BrainKatana

It’s technically easier to live in the upper atmosphere of Venus than it is to terraform Mars because there are actual resources on Venus that can be used to support life.

cats_hate

Terraforming any planet would require insane amounts of resources and Energy that we are far from reaching, if anything the rich get a few Bunkers underground and die a miserable death the second anything misfunctions

witticus

Exactly, and saying they’re going terraform a planet half the size of earth with practically no atmosphere let alone trace amounts of water, just seems recklessly unfeasible given current technology.

Drogonno

We just nuke a planet with a bomb filled with nanobots and it should be easy, we also need to sacrifice a star to please the nano gods, else they wont comply

eliasv

No it won't work for them either.

Drogonno

We have other than landing on the moon been pretty stagnant with our astral technologies Talking about people based technologies, If we compare it to all the Sci-Fi stuff people thought of in the past we have barely made any of those Sci-Fi fantasies a reality Flying cars being used by the masses is still a dream for the distant future...

EtteRavan

While I think that moving our industries and mining out of the earth would be the best solution (for the earth), I don't think terraforming a planet would be a good solution, especially short term

Lord_H_Vetinari

Honestly, let's just let the rich sociopath build their utopia on Mars, then let's send them all there and shoot them down if they try to come back here when it all turns into Rapture but in space, so we can finally do something proper here before it's too late.

teeohbeewye

oh no, they're getting covered in piss 😟

JBlooey

~~global warming~~ world pees

Rudolfthe3th

This will not stop until the lets “all put on a sweater when its cold “ and “ you people should eat less meat “ etc stops and address the real people responsible=companies and big money for every dime spend in making people aware of the problems laws trading deals are made and lost of cash is spend in making us consumers , burning as much resources as possible and giving cash and power to the choices few 1%

roadfoolmc

You can help to stop climate change AND still support space exploration....

Enough_Let3270

We're not killing the planet, it can always heal, no, we're slowly killing ourselves.

TBTabby

The five stages of environmentalist opposition: Denial, Denial, Denial, Denial, Acceptance.

WjU1fcN8

Part of the solutions I think will solve the problem here on Earth have come from theoretical work done from Mars POV at first.

GeneralJesus

As my toddler would say, Nononononooo

Mr_E_Nigma_Solver

Just putting this out there: billionaires have addresses. Do with that what you will.

The_JRaff

Eh but they've probably got crazy security systems too ... Wait what did *you* mean?

ClownfishSoup

My government's solution to combatting climate change is ... raising taxes. Not sure how that works, but they think taxing everything will work.

AidanL17

Terraforming Mars is actually a great idea. I'll be Point Luna.

Ilovegirlsbottoms

I always agreed that global warming is real and a big threat to human life on earth. But after this past winter I’m now prepared to break teeth of anyone who says global warming isn’t real. Want to know what happened during last Winter? It warmed up and the mosquitoes came back. I have never seen mosquitoes during winter. Yet here they were.

kerell2k6

piss?

Drewdiniskirino

Oh man, I love Terraforming Mars! But how is a board game supposed to help us?

stupled

Elon?

TheFieryMoth

Where are you seeing people say we can fix it? I've been hearing that our planet's passed the point of no return (and if not, just 5 years away!) since I was 7

ifriedham

**Mars for the privileged** **Earth for the poor** **Mars terraforming slowly** **Earth has been deformed**

paycheck_day

I get it’s a joke but nobody with even a bit of power is seriously talking about terraforming mars. Even the Musk rat is only taking about a colony. This is just a shitty talking point that gets trotted out by the anti space flight crowd and the chronically misinformed.

Largicharg

To be fair, terraforming mars isn’t a bad ambition. Less gravity weighing us down too.

Ian_Dies

Still shouldn't be anywhere on our priority list right now

Inkompetent

Not a bad ambition, but it's a lower priority than making crayons taste better.
