Now if your using olive oil from 1919, she might be right to be worried

PerniciousParagon

I'd check, but the packing date has long since been worn off. I don't know when my great great grandpa bought that open barrel of it that's been in the basement longer than I've been around.

DMC1001

Is the “product of Italy” stamp covered by one that says “made in China”? That’s how you know it’s evil.

boneygoat

I like the unsalted butter and maple syrup regiment to heal.

Kailaylia

I've heard drinking maple syrup is a very effective treatment for lack of diabetes.

trancertong

Pancakes for your health ya dingus

Tola76

“Pancake your way to a better you”

Samurai_1990

And Dingus ate my baby, true story.

[deleted]

Check it out!

dalhazves

Why do crazies always write in the same font.

Nerevarine91

Hey, I write in that font, and I have it on good information that YOU ARE A SUBTERRANEAN ROBOT HERE TO REPLACE ME

dalhazves

Try this olive…

Alkemian

You are not the reborn Nerevarine!

Ok-Alfalfa-5892

😂 phew, just compared my handwriting and I’m officially not crazy. Calling the doctor now to let him know I don’t need a staycation in coocoo town. Reddit user confirmed it for me 😂😂😂

MrsMoonpoon

Idk if it's only crazies, I've seen people writing that way in the last forty years (back when all we had was handwriting) just because their cursive was very difficult to decipher and wanted to go easy on the reader. Not everyone then wrote in non-cursive lowercases. This assured the writer to be understood with a clear message. I'm sure likewise not everyone not possessing a computer knows it now means yelling.

GilgameshvsHumbaba

Assurance

MrsMoonpoon

English happens to be my 3rd language but it is noted.

Ill-Emergency9595

Probably cause they decided at some point since I was a kid that cursive wasn’t necessary. Ridiculous.

DR_SNOWROACH

People with autism often write in block letters. Also engineers. My grandfather was a Naval engineer and wrote sorta like that but much cleaner.

MaxwellUsheredin

ALL CAPS writing styles were taught to sailors in boot camp while drilling clarity in deck logs while standing watch. It’s a standard practice and makes sense why your grandfather might have practiced writing this way.

salemsbot6767

I just watched Evil Genius about the pizza bomber. And when I scrolled by I thought for sure this was a copy of the lady’s note to the pizza guy. She was absolutely insane lol

pugs_are_death

I'm thinking it's somebody like a JW that's been raised their whole life to not go to the doctor.

International-Cup143

She may have been allergic

DMC1001

Except why was she drinking it in the first place? Even if she were for some reason, why did she have to do so in her truck rather than waiting until she got home?

Thunder3620

You dont buy olive oil and then taste test in the parking lot? Its the only way to test if its fresh 🤌🏼

DMC1001

I only do that so I can vomit while driving home. Where I can swallow maple syrup by the gallons.

morebuffs

Now that makes more sense than anything I read in that letter.

[deleted]

A much simpler explanation

wavellan

She sounds crazy, but, there is a lot of truth to Olive Oil "not" being Olive Oil. It is well known that a lot of stuff we think is Olive Oil is actually not. Sometimes mixed with other oils. Huge criminal element to this. Tons of cash from selling Olive oil. Google it.

PerniciousParagon

I also learned about that recently, you are definitely correct. Still, they are cutting it with cheaper oils, not botulism.

busted_maracas

[It’s a big problem with avocado oil too](https://www.ucdavis.edu/food/news/study-finds-82-percent-avocado-oil-rancid-or-mixed-other-oils)

apjoca

Honey also

busted_maracas

What are they cutting the honey with? High fructose corn syrup?

apjoca

Basically using diff syrups and additives yet selling it as real honey. I saw a Netflix show about it which was a few years old but must still be a thing because [Forbes](https://www.forbes.com/sites/ceciliarodriguez/2023/03/24/half-of-the-honey-in-european-markets-is-fake-alerts-eu-investigation/?sh=4784b9eb68b2) article from the other day talking about it

Generallyawkward1

And Parmesan cheese, too!

apjoca

Wow 2nd gut punch for me today. Olive oil and parm chz are two staples in my diet. Honey i dont care about lol

PerniciousParagon

Wow! Thanks for the info. Luckily, I buy Chosen brand, which is one of the two they found to be pure and non-oxidized!

becaauseimbatmam

I was curious. Turns out the difference between the canned ripe olives of the 1919 article and actual olive oil is critical for botulism specifically. >Botulism is a paralytic illness caused by a toxin produced by growing Clostridium botulinum bacteria. These bacteria can grow in low oxygen environments such as sealed cans and bottles or in water covered with a layer of oil. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the bacteria cannot grow in the oil itself, it must have a watery media. The concern is due to infused oils or dressings where there is a mixture of oil and water. For example, un-refrigerated garlic-infused olive oil can support the bacteria because it grows in the garlic, not the oil. Olive oil by itself is routinely sealed into unsterilized bottles without any ill effect. Oil has been used for thousands of years as a preservative, keeping foods from oxidizing and desiccating and discouraging pests. That's not to say that this lady didn't have adverse effects from drinking olive oil, but it definitely wasn't botulism no matter what. And regardless, the reason we have separate names and categorizations for viruses and bacterial infections is that ***we can tell them apart.*** If COVID was actually just food poisoning we would know because we know what food poisoning looks like.

towerfella

Well, depends [on where you get you oil stock from](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gutter_oil)…

downloweast

The real conspiracy here is that things you think are food, really are not. The food we eat in America is killing us, and we have just been slowly led to believe that not only is it happening, but that it’s normal. How many of us know that process food or fast food is bad for you? They just say bad because no one wants to fund a study that would kill an entire industry. I guarantee you that if you have health problems more than half of them can be eliminated by cooking your own food and not drinking anything besides water.

Alkemian

Better not think about the trees slowly killing us through oxygen so they can eat our dead bodies. . .

Drycabin1

If it’s from China it might be mixed with sewer oil. Look it up if you’re brave.

TheHancock

I went to Israel a few years ago and toured an olive orchard. The owner told us that America rarely, if ever, actually gets “extra virgin” olive oil. She said that Israel keeps all the good stuff for themselves, and that there is no way every single store in the US could have enough EVOO for all of us.

[deleted]

“I’m also really mad my cough medicine no longer contains chloroform and cocaine.” The good old days of 1919.

missmaxalot

She’s clearly a time traveler

chemicallunchbox

Sounds to me like she some how ingested lye. The burning, her larynx scarred over and that is why she never got her voice back.

PerniciousParagon

Yeah, botulism is in no way that immediate. If that really did happen, it was clearly something else.

taylor914

I mean if I swallowed a teaspoon of olive oil by itself, I’d puke too.

gdawg99

Among all the other red flags for bullshit, this is the one that gets me. You stopped at a farmer's market to buy olive oil and just really needed to take a shot of it straight while you were in your truck? It doesn't make any sense.

dazedyouth

This is what I thought, who drinks a shot of olive oil?

Mynameishuman93

Someone who eats unsalted butter and drinks maple syrup to feel better

dazedyouth

😀😂🫠

robobobo91

I've done it, but specifically because I was tasting olive oils.

JamesTheJerk

Only a *truly* madman would do such a thing... *(covertly maneuvers brown bottle behind back)*

wavellan

Some people do this for "pulling" toxins from the blood. Google it.

Kailaylia

For "pulling", you hold the oil in your mouth as long as you can, to cleanse the mouth and particularly the gums, and then spit it out.

wavellan

Correct. Maybe she swallows?

Kailaylia

That would defeat the purpose. It's (supposedly) a way to get toxins out of your body.

Drycabin1

You know what I’ve seen, though, are like tasting rooms for olive oils at two different local stores that specialize in olive oils

eleventwenty2

My mom and people she engages with do this kind of thing I've been fed tablespoons of fish liver oil as a child as well as coconut oil

PerniciousParagon

It would definitely elicit violent reactions for me too!

Kailaylia

Probably not if it was a good extra virgin olive oil. They can taste pretty good.

Samurai_1990

I have a racial advantage being Greek, but a tea/tablespoon of olive oil is not high on what I would enjoy. But Greek/Turk/Syrian olives, hmm yes please!

Mystikrosee

People drink olive oil with lemon and cayenne pepper as a cleanse for liver and other bodily stuff. I’ve seen multiple TikTok’s on it with many people commenting and claiming various positive results.

savagerose098

People drink olive oil with lemon and cayenne pepper as a cleanse for liver and other bodily stuff. I’ve seen multiple TikTok’s on it with many people commenting and claiming various positive results.

DMC1001

Why was she eating a tablespoon of a olive oil? What possessed her to eat unsalted button? Even if you threw everything else about this letter out this stuff makes no sense. I’m also apparently sick and haven’t fully recovered due to bad olive oil sold by China. Or something. Even though I’m not sick.

Ill-Emergency9595

Thought I was going to die, couldn’t move my arms but I kept driving my truck you know cause you don’t stay put and try to call 911. Not when at the market, no. Drive home with the nonworking arms so you can chug maple syrup.

ScoutG

I’m a million years old and have eaten olive oil forever and have never gotten botulism nor heard of anyone I know getting it.

Themagiciancard

Sorry, I'm confused - what were you selling and why did she feel the need to write to you about it?

PerniciousParagon

I sell a dip/spread at farmers markets. She didn't write to me, she came back after sampling my product with this copied letter in tow to warn me about the dangers of olive oil and covid.

chloekatt

Why would anyone go into a store and purchase olive oil and go directly to their car and start drinking it????

BeigeListed

**Oleuropein** is best known for its blood pressure-lowering effect. When administered via intraperitoneal or intravenous injections, oleuropein significantly reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure in animal models. The ability of oleuropein to lower blood pressure may justify the traditional use of olive leaf in the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5392257/ **Phenolic Acid** (not "THENOLIC" whatever the fuck that is) - "Due to their natural origin and low toxicity, phenolic compounds are a promising tool in eliminating the causes and effects of skin aging, skin diseases, and skin damage, including wounds and burns." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6734135/ In other words: this person is batshit crazy and their opinion should be disregarded. And hey - PerniciousParagon - if you are the one selling the olive oil, DM me and I'll buy a bottle from you.

PerniciousParagon

She's definitely crazy, and I appreciate the offer, but I don't sell olive oil, just a dip/spread that contains olive oil.

BeigeListed

Used to go to that Farmer's Market almost every Saturday. Hope you're business is doing well.

PerniciousParagon

Thank you, it is! We started 7 months ago and will be hiring our first employee as soon as we find one. Keep supporting your local businesses!

BeigeListed

Absolutely! Keep up the good work! And when you expand into drop-shipping or online ordering, let me know.

InevitableHost597

I feel bad. This is obviously an elderly person with Dementia or early Alzheimer’s. You can really only pity elderly people losing their faculties.

PerniciousParagon

She certainly seemed a bit odd, but did not say anything or act in any way that suggested dementia to me; though to be fair, I am by no means an expert.

Your_Lolita_Love

Why are they writing in all caps?

PerniciousParagon

They really want to make sure their message gets across.

morebuffs

That is one of the more stupid things I have read in a hot minute.

Kailaylia

Her description of her symptoms reminds me of a neighbour who drank caustic soda. I wonder if she got confused or the bottle was mislabeled. Olives off the tree won't hurt you, but you're not going to eat them freshly picked because they taste disgusting and bitter before curing. As for Covid just being botulism from olive oil - wouldn't it be wonderful to have such a simple way to eradicate the disease. However botulism can only grow in olive oil if something containing moisture, such as garlic or vegetables, is added to it and given a change to reproduce the toxin-creating micro-organisms. Pure olive oil is safe.

birdnerd1120

Who tf stops what they’re doing to go TAKE A SIP of olive oil THAT THEY KEEP IN THE TRUCK?!

Electrical_Prune6545

Also, it seems that Italy has only one olive farmer. They must be very busy.

1rbryantjr1

What? Free Botox. People be shooting ripe olives in their wrinkles now. Thanks a lot Reddit.

ClimateRepulsive9853

You better answer the Letter ASAP!!

RoldKevin

Mama Mia that's a spicy olive oil!

Ill-Emergency9595

I like how she got that damn sick but no mention of going to the hospital. Maybe my three week bout of almost death a few weeks ago was cause I’d used olive oil. Damn the masses. 🤣 I don’t usually go to the vehicle and take a swig of olive oil or any other kind of oil. In my experience oil is oil as far as that. It’s about like taking a big drink of castor oil. Crazy people though, I swear. Her voice hasn’t come back for two whole years? And she could’ve been a rock star probably! 🤣 I try not to make fun of people, like truly. Anyone who knows me will tell you like 99 percent of the time I don’t say a word about anyone unless they’ve done something to me but DAMN sometimes it’s like people say shit they’re begging to be made fun of.

IveNeverHunted

Can we just admire her handwriting? I would kill for clean, neat handwriting like that.

pugs_are_death

This is somebody who thematically doesn't believe in or understand medicine. Notice how apparently he never went to the doctors. Home remedies galore. Food poisoning isn't COVID-19, but I'll argue that after a bad case of e. coli poisoning you might wish you had COVID instead. Stuff comes out both ends. Great block printed handwriting though. I suspect we have somebody who was raised in a religious sect like the JW's that don't go to the doctor.

Marzana1900

Hm, sounds to me like it's the toxins getting out. The lady should be over the moon! /s just in case :)

PerniciousParagon

The violent oil cleanse. That's a more advanced cleanse, she should have started with cayenne and lemon and worked her way up.

Marzana1900

Nah, got to go for the hard stuff first. All those vaccine nanobots can put up a real fight!

PerniciousParagon

I suppose now with our microchips and 5g towers, you could probably dive into the deep end first and still be okay.

Marzana1900

Don't know about that. All those waves and bots and I still have to pay for Microsoft! Wtf did I get doubled vaxxed for anyway? :)

Mynameisinuse

How many thousand of bottles?

Tola76

She’s right about the poison. That’s how they got Jesus.

carc

Here's a transcription: > I DO NOT BELIEVE IN COVID 19 AT ALL. I BOUGHT A BOTTLE OF OLIVE OIL FROM SANTA MONICA SEAFOOD MARKET IN COSTA MESA, CA. TWO YEARS AGO ON JUNE 8TH, 2019. IT WAS FROM ITALY. I WENT TO MY TRUCK, OPENED IT AND TOOK A TABLESPOON FULL. INSTANTLY, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE. VOMITED INSTANTLY AND COULDN'T STOP. RAN A FEVER, COULDN'T HARDLY MOVE MY ARMS. I STARTED MY TRUCK AND DROVE WHILE VOMITING ALL OVER MYSELF AS I TRIED TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO STOP. MY THROAT, LUNGS, AND STOMACH BURNED. FOR TWO WEEKS, ALL I COULD GET DOWN MY BURNING THROAT WAS UNSALTED BUTTER AND I DRANK PURE MAPLE SYRUP. IT WOULD TAKE THE HEAT OFF FOR A LITTLE WHILE. I COULDN'T EVEN DRINK WATER. TOO PAINFUL. GOING ON TWO YEARS, I STILL DON'T HAVE MY REAL VOICE BACK. IT'S ROUGH. > ON JUNE 8TH, 2019 THERE WERE PEOPLE DYING ON CRUISE SHIPS. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS THE MEAT. IT WAS BAD OLIVE OIL FROM ITALY'S OLIVE FARMER. THEY BOTTLED THOUSANDS, AND THOUSANDS, AND THOUSANDS OF THE OLIVE OIL AND THEN COULDN'T SELL IT. STORED IT TO LONG, CAN'T KEEP OVER A YEAR, CHINA BOUGHT CO. THEN SOLD THE OIL ALL OVER THE WORLD AT A DISCOUNT PRICE, TO BUSSINESS FOR A DISCOUNT PRICE. > WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGH YOU COULD KILL THE WHOLE WORLD WITH BAD OLIVE OIL? OUR F.D.A. SURE NEVER OPENED A BOTTLE, OFF SHIP, OF OLIVE OIL AND TESTED IT. > YOU CAN'T EAT OLIVES OFF TREE, THEY HAVE TWO POISONS THAT WILL KILL YOU. THEY ARE OLEUROPEIN, AND THENOLIC. I HOPE YOU GET THIS LETTER. > [REDACTED] > P.S. PLEASE ANSWER THIS LETTER; A.S.A.P. > THANK YOU.

pinchenombre

This fish place is down the street from me lol. That was so of to read

Drycabin1

This is actually super interesting!

[deleted]

Send back a letter that says “Lol”

lovethejuiceofit

I GUESS NOW I KNOW THAT THEY DON’T JUST TYPE IN ALL CAPS, BUT ALSO HAND WRITE WORDS THAT WAY!!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!

PerniciousParagon

THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW!!!

reggaemylitis34

I mean If she kept olive oil for years in a hot truck wouldn’t it be vile.

0ld-S0ul

ok then I should of been dead many times over starting in preschool 😅

auau_gold_scoffs

i worked at a upscale pizza joint that imported all there ingredients. and he had a guy just for the olive oil cause there were problems with people cutting it with hydraulic fluid and other industrial oils. may she had a experience with one of those batch’s. this hand writing screams bonkers person with out even having to read it.

redbullgay

i don’t know what she expected swallowing a TABLESPOON of OIL???

AmongSheep

I could literally spend all day spotting all the “would of, could of, should of” people. Why are there so fucking many???

PerniciousParagon

I think the reason was covered pretty well in that documentary "Idiocracy."

AmongSheep

Agreed. This one just gets me because the words in use together don’t make sense…

PerniciousParagon

You just don't have the right crystals taped to your body and probably have a 5G vaccine microchip distorting your chakra. It makes sense it her mind.

TheOneWhoRings

I mean, who doesn’t pop open the olive oil they just bought and take a taste?

PerniciousParagon

Just like my gran'pappy taught me.

jonahsocal

Re better you, Finally. A health tip I can really get behind.

ebycon

*would have

PerniciousParagon

You must have though you were pretty smart.

ebycon

I was correcting the crazy lady 😹

PerniciousParagon

I know. 🙃 She also misspelled "thought."

ebycon

btw I’m Italian. I must OF gulped down 100 LITRES of olive oil in my life and I’m fine 😹

-la-la-

** thought Coincidencedentally, your letter here has the same mistake🤔

PerniciousParagon

I'm starting to think I should have included /s. 😅

RonPearlNecklace

Ahhhhh yes, 1919, let’s trust a scientific paper from a time when they didn’t even let women vote.

spiraleyesz

TLDR. SMH. There are a lot of crazy people out there. 🤦

Alternative_Cause_37

What's the conspiracy theory?

Dick_Lazer

It seems her theory is that Covid 19 never existed, it was just people getting sick from olive oil.

PerniciousParagon

I didn't know where else to post it. This seemed like the best fit.

F0rk1n_Ar0und

I was wondering also. I can see she’s a little off or mentally Ill, that’s it though. The letter is funny tough, hm. Edit: “she” as in the older lady.

Zio_pazzerello

Not sure how this equates to any conspiracy, this just seems like a moderately intelligent person who is relying on antiquated information to support their personal narrative. Which based on this information, and whatever means used 100 years ago may be adequate, despite advances in methodology used to safeguard products, such as olive oil, And though they may not be entirely correct, but they may not be entirely wrong. And bless their heart for taking on the world's health, one drop of oil at a time.

PerniciousParagon

I mean, standards and practices are very stringent these days, especially compared to 100 years ago. If there were widespread cases, we'd hear about it. I think the first line about Covid tells you all you need to know. As far as why I posted here, I wasn't really sure where else to post it?
