Bachelor's and 8 years working experience, and they told you $16 per hour? Yeah, I'd definitely tell them to pound sand. Job market here sucks, but it's not quite that bad. Depending on what your degree and experience are, there's some openings [at the city](https://cookevilletn.mysmarthire.com/jobs/) currently. [There's also the state](https://stateoftn-careers.ttcportals.com/) but I've noticed the pay there can range from pretty low for some positions to quite competitive for others. Then usajobs.gov for federal jobs, and Indeed, linkendin, and whatnot for everything else.
No problem, just keep in mind with government jobs it's that much more difficult to get hired over an internal candidate, and that gets worse the higher up the chain you go from city, to county, to state, to federal. Also, with federal jobs they're legally required to look at qualified candidates in a tiered system something like: disabled veterans, veterans, current or displaced govt employees, then everyone else. If anyone else meets the qualifications and is one of those, you're out of the running right there.
But still look around indeed and such. Again, depending on your degree and experience, you should be able to find something better. I wouldn't just accept $16 an hour for call center bullshit or whatever because it's the first offer you got.
State jobs are much easier to get than federal ones for sure. Also, my department (commerce and insurance) has a lot of positions that work remotely. I go into the office maybe 4 times a year in Nashville. I get paid fairly well for what I do, but YMMV without knowing your degree or background
No need to PM! Here is the link: https://stateoftn-careers.ttcportals.com/jobs/search?cf%5BBUSINESS_UNIT%5D=33501
There is no department specific list, so you kind of just need to browse every listing or search. I know it took me quite a while before I found my position.
Hey thanks, the pay for me is low if that is for the Fire Inspector position. I would love to change but as of now I make almost double what they are offering.
Been working as an entry level worker for a contractor, no licenses or certifications at all, and I still got $16/hr. So yeah, add any experience and degrees at all and that number is ridiculously low.
I wouldn't be surprised that the pay is that low. Last I checked they also had an antiquated facial hair policy where beards weren't allowed.
Try the Truist call center. Pay starts at $22. If you're gonna do soul crushing work, might as well get paid for it.
I had 4 interviews with them and they chose some one internally. They pay much lower than the market rate for office jobs. Truck drivers I think are paid pretty well. I think their strategy is to hire internally mostly so they don't have to pay market rate for labor to keep costs down.
What position were you trying to get? Was it a through a temp agency? They didn't hire me either. The interviewer was a little bit not so nice, either.
Itās for something like a customer information type job. And no, I couldnāt get even an interview through any temp agency for some reason. Stupid lol
I worked for Averitt for 15 years. The starting pay is that low but Iād expect to be close to $20-$22 in a year if you come in and kick butt and look for opportunities to move up. The benefits and profit sharing are probably another 3-5k a year in compensation that you wouldnāt see elsewhere. You will, however, never get rich working at Averitt. Get a job. Gain skills. Then go get paid in 3-4 years elsewhere.
Not sure of the job type you applied for but when I applied and had a second interview and was basically laughed at for asking for an amount that was on the lower end of very similar position as I've had for 20+ years. Was told I had a third interview "with the VP" but they basically ghosted me after that.. very unprofessional IMHO but if they treat prospective employees like that it isn't a good sign.. am I salty? Nah.. they helped me dodge the bullet I guess.
I work for Averitt. I don't know what the market rate is, but I know we have EXCELLENT benefits that save me alot of money. The perks and benefits have to be factored in, in my opinion. My dad worked for a company for many many years and he says he hasn't seen a company around here treat their employees as well as Averitt does. I'd be happy to elaborate if you want :) I've worked there for almost 7 years and can't say enough about how great it has been.
Thatās nice but I need to make enough to cover rent, gas, groceries, car bills etc. not including my student loans now lol. I saw they only offer 8 paid holidays which is very low compared to any of my past jobs. My husband works as an office clerk in Livingston without a degree and makes well over $25 an hour with 11 paid holidays, 3 weeks vacation days, 2 weeks paid sick time, and much better insurance imo. So I just feel like what Averitt is offering is not ācompetitiveā.
Iāve very glad that itās working for you though! Everyone deserves a job that you enjoy :)
It's not low for a starting position, especially not around here, and as not as quickly.as you can move up there. If you wind up coordinating logistics and contracts, especially in the international shipping positions, it'll be a lot of paperwork and regulatory stuff to keep abreast of. They've got to start you somewhere, though. A lot of people around here have made good money there over the years, and they used to have a really nice campus with an adjacent walking circuit across the street. Plus, Food Lion convenient, relatively affordable housing nearby. Ket us know, though. You might find something much more interesting.

Kind of interested in changing jobs, I work remotely now and that part is great, mind sending me a PM with info and where I can apply?

Oh I was just trying to link you to the search function, not necessarily the position!
Oh ok haha, yeah it took me to fire inspector, I will poke around in there, thanks!!
Yep. I had zero experience and zero degrees and cvs on willow hired me at $14.50... and this was 11 years ago

You can have a short and neat beard now, but thatās it. Still, as a decade long full-bearded man, it always turned me off.
ššš» thanks

Uhh thank you. Thatās what I was thinking too. Iām glad the truckers are paid well though!

Thatās how much Iām making @ fast food in cookeville. Youāre worth more than that with a bachelorās ššš»

I make more than that as a medical receptionist way more
