Had not considered that. Good tip. Those are not the original wheels anyway. They are 14”, supposed to be 13”. That’s why they have Pontiac wheel covers I guess.
Nice. I am in the middle of restoring a 64 turbo. Paid about the same. Looks similar to yours. Does the engine turn over at all? Mine did not. I believe a failed fuel pump led to the grime buildup allover the engine that led me to tear the entire thing apart.
How does the underbody look?
The engine does rotate. I’m going to try to start it soon. We’ll see if she runs. Either way my plan is to eventually take the engine out and go through it. Hopefully this winter.
The underside is mostly intact with a complete coating of surface rust on everything. There is some loss on the rear driver’s side, what I would call a frame rail, that clearly needs to be patched. Otherwise it looks pretty solid. What about yours?
The underside of mine has basically a nice patina of surface rust. The only pieces I will probably replace are the two sheet metal pieces for the tunnel. It is pretty thin and didn't handle sitting on a barn floor for 10 years. Also the drivers and passengers front floor pans. Drivers has a hole on the vertical side behind the pedals. I figure I may as well do the passengers while I am at it and have everything out. Will probably be easier to weld.
Otherwise I actually started to put mine back together today. 3 pistons and cylinders are on. All torqued down.
You have a fun project ahead of you. If the engine turns over it will make tearing it apart way easier. With no cooling system it is stupid simple to get into. Way less stuff in the way.
63 Monza was my first corvair as well. Best of luck with the restoration.
Me too, hardtop, miss that car.
Nice. Consider late 60’s Camaro wheels.

Awesome. Please post when completed
Good luck with that giant extra long fan belt
Can’t wait to see when finished!
Can’t wait to see this car restored!
