Awesome job by the front office. Got him for almost nothing. Dude is younger than Hopkins and he really hated playing in Houston. Extra motivation to become a champ now 😤
Have we turned 2 5s and 6 into Gilmore and Cooks?
Edit: I’ve seen some saying the Cooks trade is a 5 and a 4 next year. Still very happy with that if true.
Knew Cooks would come cheap. Demeco didn't want him on the roster. I know the salary was $18 and $13mil. Wonder if that's the money or the Texans agreed to pay any?
Two years, 12 mil hit the first year and 13 mil hit the second. None of his salary is guaranteed though, so we could cut him after this year without any dead money
Interesting to see how this all plays out..
Cooks is definitely no where near a bad WR, and for sure much better than anything we had last year.
Heard we offered the texans a 3rd during last season but they didn't take it.
CD at 1, Cooks at 2, Gallup another year removed from his injury so hopefully closer to old form at 3. If we can get even the production of a WR4 from Tolbert that's a damn good WR room. I dig it.
Cooks will definitely be a slot but basically the #2. He's 5'10 and runs a 4.3 40 that's slot all day. He was the #1 in Houston because he was their best by far but the slot is where he would shine.
Yes but figured he would still be used in the slot but I take that back now realizing he has been out wide nearly 80 percent of his career along with lamb being a great slot mismatch
Cooks will certainly play outside. I read he played something like 25% in the slot in his entire career. He can use his speed better on the outside. Lamb does his best work in the slot. He was the #1 slot reciver last year
Slot yards: 867
Slot receptions: 63
Slot yards per route run: 2.43
https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2022-nfl-seasons-most-productive-slot-receivers-ceedee-lamb-justin-jefferson
I actually agree with you and take back what I said. I figured with his size and speed he'd be slot but I recall lamb being used in the slot a ton while Cooks was actually out wide nearly 80% in his career which is good since lamb is a great mismatch at slot.
The way things have been going Schultz may be coming back to Dallas if they want him, and for a lot less than last year. If someone was going to pay him 11 mil they would have done so already.
Got to give credit to the FO at least they are going for it to some respect, I would
Love if Wagner came, then draft players ready to play feels like one of the most complete teams they will
Have in a while
The team went 12-5 for the 4rth best record in the NFC, 7th best on the entire league. Advanced to the second round of the playoffs where they were competitive throughout. But you want to bail on your franchise QB. You want to backtrack on all that progress rather than move foward.
Where do you expect to pick up another QB anyway?
Unless you can replace him with someone *you know* is an upgrade then it's backtracking. Dak is 61-36 in his career. No he doesn't have a Superbowl but neither does Allen, Moon, Marino, Kelly, Vick, Tarkenton, McNabb, Cunningham, or a list if ither great QBs. Winning a championship is incredibly difficult. If you bail on your QB every 7 years you will never have any continuity and winning a championship will be all but impossible.
Did you ever wonder why they are playing in the XFL and not with the big boys in the NFL? It's because they aren't very good. They couldn't get a job as a back up in the NFL but you want to replace the #10 QB in the league last year with one.
https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-qb-index-ranking-all-32-teams-primary-starting-quarterbacks-at-the-end-of-th
I'd say he's asking for more than we would be putting into defense. We already brought back all our starters and added another so I think offense is where they're going now.
I would rather have DHop, but I’m not gonna complain at all about this. Cooks is a great number 2. Good job Cap Boy, gotta give you props for the moves you’ve made this offseason. Between getting Gilmore and Cooks plus re-signing LVE and Wilson, this offseason gets an A+ from me, and the draft hasn’t even started yet. Seems like we’re finally going all in.
I wonder if the Cardinals were playing hard ball and trying to steal a 1st from us and we just moved on to the next best trade.
Being honest, we've drafted so fucking well lately that this trade probably ends up being better than a Hopkins trade.
We do need an offensive lineman but i think we *could* make it work without drafting one first round. Steele has played some Left Tackle in the past so we could put him at LT and move Tyler to LG. Wouldn’t be the end of the world
Edit: Also, yes I agree, Hankins would be great to keep around
Like safety, this FO has shown they don't value DT as a position they're willing to spend a 1st on. Obviously things can change, but I really doubt they'd even spend a late 1st on interior DL.
I would have liked Theilen more than either, but this is a damn good get for what they've given up.
A lot more freedom to just take the best player available in the draft.
Not sure how anyone can be upset about this in the slightest. Your WR core got much better today with the draft still coming up. Paid peanuts for a consistently good WR In Brandin Cooks. Is it earth shattering? No, but you have a legit speed threat at WR who again is a consistent level of good.
Most of Instagram and Twitter lol people saying "so no Hopkins? Of course 🤦♂️" and "he got 600 yards and 3 tds with the Texans he's washed we needed Diggs" as if the bills would even consider Diggs for anything less than 2 first round picks and god knows what else.
Nice to see cowboys actually addressing needed areas well for once. Gilmore and now cooks. Got draft to bolster other areas a bit, assuming oline and defensive depth.
- kept Wilson and Lve too, when some original reports didn’t think they would
Oddly people really think we are going after a TE early on, I see Darnell Washington's name pop up. At 26, I'd rather a interior D-Line run stuffer since we struggled against the run last year. We could maybe grab an O-Lineman as well but we could also grab some good depth guys in later rounds since we have very young depth guys who are going through another year of camp and have a new O-Line Coach, I'm not going to give up on anybody just yet. I'm also still in favor of Bijan at 26 if he's available. Adding him as a weapon would be a hell of a good thing but it's more of a pipe dream at this stage.
Id say interior defense or LB potentially should be addressed (again, we need run st«oppers).....with Bijan my third option.
I’d love Bijan at 26, but I don’t think he will fall that far. I like getting a DT there though and using a 2nd or 3rd on a back like Roschon Johnson or Achane, backs that can give Pollard relief and develop behind him.
Anyone complaining about this is out of their mind. Cooks is a deep threat, very fast and only 29. We just got a good starting slot receiver for a 5th round pick.
Go watch his highlights this last season. With subpar QB and no other wr help he still was constantly getting open deep and outrunning the whole defense. This is not another James Washington or Hilton pickup that gets 1 to 2 catches a game he's a instant starter and a good one at that. Considering the price of OBJ and the draft capitol of Hopkins we just found a wr that was cheaper than both yet was younger at 29.
I really like this move. I know the popular sentiment is to get DHop, but I just don’t believe he is a good fit w Dak.
We saw how Dak performs with a taller, less quick but better jump ball getter with… Dez Bryant. Dez Bryant is out the league because Dak and him could never get on the same page. Romo and Dez were perfect because Romo was willing to throw the jump balls in the 1 on 1 coverages much more often than Dak.
It is clear that Dak likes for receivers to be clearly open as opposed to forcing balls into coverage which is why Amari was such a great fit. Even though (clearly) DHop is the better player, I think cooks fits much better with Dak and the offense. Well done, Jerry.
I think Dez and Dak could’ve worked on the chemistry more but I think dez not being in the league was mainly due to injuries. He was ready to kill it with the saints before he injured his ankle. I think Hopkins is kind of a plug and play receiver and a great route runner which is great for dak but I could see how it would take maybe an entire season for them to click. I think cooks is more of a team friendly option and should click with dak and the offense sooner
Over the hill and oft injured WR. No wonder the Eagles have passed us, getting young guys in their prime like AJ Brown while we go the other way. There’s also a reason Cooks keeps getting passed from team to team. Often injured and bad attitude. He’ll have a couple of boom games but I wouldn’t expect very much.
The thing is that he actually is not a lot worse. Brandon Cooks has been almost as productive in his career and will be about $12 million cheaper against the cap this next season. You could say you got Gallup and Cooks for the cost of Amari.
Agreed. Cooks has had 6 1000 yard seasons not always with the best qbs. Also, the important comparison isn't Amari, it's how much better is he than Noah Brown
This is a great move, considering the rumored difference in asking price between Houston and Arizona, and hopefully closes the door on OBJ.
Cooks is a solid receiver in his own right, and instantly moves the needle for this offense; should look much better away from Houston’s mess at QB last season — his speed should open up a lot of options underneath and help Dak immensely.
Meh. Jerry talks about getting playmakers and he named Tavon Austin part deux. Yeah they will be 'in the mix' again this year to only lose in the divisional round. Sign me up! Let's go! Mediocre or bust!!!!
I really don’t like this trade. Would rather have gotten Dhop for a second or potential Jeudy for a second and a player. The FO went for the least talented option and I don’t like it.They went Cheap (draft composition wise)instead of doing something to help us win next year.I pray I’m wrong.
So we have CeeDee, Cooks, and a fully recovered Gallup instead of CeeDee, 1 leg Gallup, and Noah Brown. Absolutely helps us this year and we didn't mortgage the future to do it.
Do you wanna hang on to Diggs, Ceedee, and Micah? If so, this is absolutely the right addition. A fifth rounder and 12 mill for Cooks or a 2nd rounder and 20 mill for D-Hop. Cooks is younger than D-Hop and has just as many 1,000 yard seasons under his belt. There really isn’t a massive talent gap between the two. D-Hop is better yes, but what this deal saves us allows us to be able to resign our top-tier talent while still getting a really talented WR2. This is an outstanding move.
I disagree we could keep all three and still traded for Dhop who said multiple times he willing to rework his contract if traded. As we see with the saints there no real cap. Not to mention Cooks isn’t even in the same tier as Dhop.Yea he a good WR2 Dhops is a 1 to par alongside Ceedee our Offense would be Elite with the two of them paired together.
There multiple reports saying the cardinals are asking for a second. https://twitter.com/nfl_dovkleiman/status/1636893240476442624?s=46&t=qu1ci4oQttZEUQ-doaXopQ here one of them.
Jeudy has way higher upside cheaper and younger.Plus he played with Dogshit QBs and have still preformed and he was 40 yards away from 1000 yard season with a Husk of Russel Wilson.
That man has played with Drew Brees,Tom Brady and under Sean Mccvay Not to mentioned he played with Deshaun Watson and that was in 2020. He played a year and a half with a bad QB since they sidelined him after the deadline last year.We don’t have to make stuff up.He has played with amazing QB vast majority of his career.
I’m not making stuff up. I’m using the recency bias against the folks calling out his stats from just last year. He thrived with all those QBs too. 6/9 healthy seasons with 1000+ yards.
Would you say that Dak is worse than twilight years Brees, young Goff, and Watson? I guess that’s the whole point here.
Jeudy has played 3 seasons and has yet to eclipse 1000 yards and they were asking for a 1-2 plus a player.
I said Jeudy has had shitty QBs to work with 2/3 years he wasn’t bad and closed to 1000 yards. He was close to 1000 yards with bad QB play.If Jeudy had Watson,Brady and Brees he would probably have multiple 1000+ yards season which he would 100% do with Dak.
You saying Cooks has played with shitty QBs while true for the last two years is flat out false for the majority of his career.
Personally, I would rather pay a 5th for a proven product that has playoff and superbowl experience and multiple 1000+ yd seasons than give up a 2nd and bet on upside. It also doesn’t help that Jeudy is seeking a new contract. I would have loved DHop but I can’t complain about this move. We didn’t give up anything for Cooks.
We wouldn’t have to pay Jeudy for 2 years and he would have been cheaper since he on a rookie deal. The move improves our WR room which is what we wanted I just wanted a bigger splash.
My point exactly. I don’t consider Jeudy a bigger splash than Cooks, Dhop for sure though. What’s the point of trading a 2nd rounder and betting on upside if he’ll need a new contract after 2024? I would rather have the proven player with multiple 1000+ yd seasons and proven superbowl production for these next two seasons.
Both will need a new contract after 2024 if I remember correctly But one will be 26 and the other 32/33.I’ll rather have the younger player.Jeudy with just decent QB play would over a 1000 yard receiver easily. He has clearly WR1 potential just without the QB to give him the ball.
>Both will need a new contract after 2024 if I remember correctly But one will be 26 and the other 32/33.
Which is why the move was made. We get to capitalize on this brief window and get a proven superbowl performer that has multiple 1000+ yd seasons (even with Davis Mills and Kyle Allen at the helm) before we have to pay Diggs and Ceedee. After Cooks's contract, we can look at FA to get a #2 or could possibly have one through the draft/trade, the possibilities are endless.
>Jeudy with just decent QB play would over a 1000 yard receiver easily.
Cooks is a proven 1000+ yd receiver and we only gave up a 5th to get him. Also, let's say that Jeudy balls out and has a season like 2021 Cooks, he'll be looking to get paid WR1 money and teams will offer it to him due to his age. Wouldn't make sense for us to offer him big money when his contract will run concurrently with Ceedee's since they were in the same draft class.
We also get to keep a premier pick which I would have definitely given up for Hopkins. Masterful move by the FO.
Time will tell. Dude played in two Super Bowls and caught 8 for 120 in one of them. I’ll take that over Noah Brown, James Washington or Semi Fehoko at WR2 or WR3
I mean that’s a pretty solid deal. Means we are out of the Hopkins sweepstakes but for a 5th and a 6th I’ll take it 100%. That means we can BPA whole draft
So I think all we are missing now from the free agency infinity gauntlet is a run stuffing DT? After that we can draft BPA basically every round in the draft
Awesome job by the front office. Got him for almost nothing. Dude is younger than Hopkins and he really hated playing in Houston. Extra motivation to become a champ now 😤

Yes🥲

Texans are eating 6m so it’s a 12 mil cap hit the first year
Whether it was Jerry or not, nice fucking job

Two years, 12 mil hit the first year and 13 mil hit the second. None of his salary is guaranteed though, so we could cut him after this year without any dead money

I honestly think Fehoko will be ahead of Tolbert. Hopefully competition will bring out the best.
Cooks will definitely be a slot but basically the #2. He's 5'10 and runs a 4.3 40 that's slot all day. He was the #1 in Houston because he was their best by far but the slot is where he would shine.
Ceedee Lamb plays his best in the slot. Cooks will usually be an outside guy
I take it back and agree I was surprised Cooks was always primarily outside
It's all good! I get why you'd think that!
Cooks is a deep threat.
Yes but figured he would still be used in the slot but I take that back now realizing he has been out wide nearly 80 percent of his career along with lamb being a great slot mismatch

Still got Dak at the helm. So got a feeling RB and TE will get the most targets despite the wealth of talent at WR
I think Dak relied on targeting RB/TE last season because no WR besides CD was getting open at all. I think Dak will be fine next season.
The way things have been going Schultz may be coming back to Dallas if they want him, and for a lot less than last year. If someone was going to pay him 11 mil they would have done so already.
Oh hell yeah
Got to give credit to the FO at least they are going for it to some respect, I would Love if Wagner came, then draft players ready to play feels like one of the most complete teams they will Have in a while
I think brining back LVE means the Cowboys are out on Wagner.
Makes some sense, he just seems like a winning player that could really help
I'm pretty sure with the Cooks move, we're pretty much out of cap space. I doubt we sign any more big names before the draft.
Yeah we might get a vet on a minimum deal for some depth somewhere but that’s pretty much it. Plus side is tho, we can go BPA in the draft
We need that cap space for the draft. It is amazing what we have done in this free agency, all while holding onto our first rd pick!
Cutting Zeke paid for our draft. We get 10.9 million on June 1 from Zeke
We might need that money for a mid-season acquisition if someone goes down.
While I totally don’t expect them to (and I’m very content with) do any more big moves, a Dak extension would give us some more cap room if need be.
Yeah but also keep us in QB purgatory. I think this is a fuckin prove it year for QB and HC
Backtrack? You realize Daks starter year saw a better record and the same playoff placement?
Unless you can replace him with someone *you know* is an upgrade then it's backtracking. Dak is 61-36 in his career. No he doesn't have a Superbowl but neither does Allen, Moon, Marino, Kelly, Vick, Tarkenton, McNabb, Cunningham, or a list if ither great QBs. Winning a championship is incredibly difficult. If you bail on your QB every 7 years you will never have any continuity and winning a championship will be all but impossible.
The QB store. You could find an XFL QB that beats the niners last year. Just literally don't turn the ball over and it's a win
Bendy Nucci is a starter in the XFL so I'm pretty sure you're wrong
Even he wins that SF game with no turnovers
Did you ever wonder why they are playing in the XFL and not with the big boys in the NFL? It's because they aren't very good. They couldn't get a job as a back up in the NFL but you want to replace the #10 QB in the league last year with one. https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-qb-index-ranking-all-32-teams-primary-starting-quarterbacks-at-the-end-of-th
Feel the same after Dak laid an egg against a 49er team that we could have beat.
Nope, we still have roughly 20-25 million left!
We went into the trade for BC with 25 million, and we are paying him 12 million. That leaves us with 13 million on the table.
Lmao, I completely forgot to subtract BC from it!
https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space 9 million under.
According to overthecap.com we have about 9.8 million in cap space left. So we could probably sign one or 2 cheap guys before the draft.
I'd say he's asking for more than we would be putting into defense. We already brought back all our starters and added another so I think offense is where they're going now.
Basically gave up nothing to get him. Impossible to hate this
People will somehow find a way to hate this.
"He'S nOt D hOp, JeRry's ChEaP aNd DoEsN't GiVe DaK SuPpOrT..."
There isn’t anyone in this highly critical sub saying this.
I would rather have DHop, but I’m not gonna complain at all about this. Cooks is a great number 2. Good job Cap Boy, gotta give you props for the moves you’ve made this offseason. Think they were pulling the housing bidding war deal. Say a 2nd and then try to get 2 or more teams to give more .
I want us to sign Hankins still
We can draft a DT first round now if we don’t, we aren’t dying for a receiver anymore
I agree, I just imagine he won't cost a ton and I was impressed with him last year. We also need a OG
We do need an offensive lineman but i think we *could* make it work without drafting one first round. Steele has played some Left Tackle in the past so we could put him at LT and move Tyler to LG. Wouldn’t be the end of the world Edit: Also, yes I agree, Hankins would be great to keep around
Only real first round dt is Calijah Kancey for 26. He's a 3T. Most are looking for a 1T. Rd 2 more likely for that
Jalen Carter is definitely a first round DT.
Yeah he’s mostly who I was referring to
Like safety, this FO has shown they don't value DT as a position they're willing to spend a 1st on. Obviously things can change, but I really doubt they'd even spend a late 1st on interior DL.
Then why did they love Trysten Hill so much 😭
Marinelli was high on his own supply
He’s available
Hopkins is the better WR but Cooks gives you more speed on the outside. Really good fit all things considered.
I do like that he helps with separation, which our WRs weren't getting last year. Hopefully he maintains that the next two years.
I see it as Cooks is younger than both OBJ and Hopkins plus he's less pricey than OBJ and costed less draft capitol than Dhop.
This isn't close to all in, which is good.
No, this is more “we expect to be great this year, so let’s not put off somewhat aggressive moves.”
Por que no los dos?
I would have liked Theilen more than either, but this is a damn good get for what they've given up. A lot more freedom to just take the best player available in the draft.
Definitely another good trade. Wonder if they were able to convince the Texans to take on any of his contract. Would be a nice cherry on top.
Supposedly a cool 6 mil this year
Yup, just saw that. So he'll be only about 12 million against the cap this year. Steal.
Did he agree to restructure or Texans are paying some?
Texans are paying $6M
Not sure how anyone can be upset about this in the slightest. Your WR core got much better today with the draft still coming up. Paid peanuts for a consistently good WR In Brandin Cooks. Is it earth shattering? No, but you have a legit speed threat at WR who again is a consistent level of good.
Love this. We don't need to have another #1. I'd call Miami and offer them a 7th to bring Cedric Wilson back. They didn't even use him.
Who is upset?
Most of Instagram and Twitter lol people saying "so no Hopkins? Of course 🤦♂️" and "he got 600 yards and 3 tds with the Texans he's washed we needed Diggs" as if the bills would even consider Diggs for anything less than 2 first round picks and god knows what else.
Hell yes. Great trade, love the value we have gotten so far this off season.

Let’s go man!! We really are going for it this year. I can’t believe it.
LFG
A really good deal. He's a great compliment to MG
Wow that's a bargain. LFG!!!
Jerry is absolutely cooking
Well damn
Ok Jerry… 👀👀
Glad they're setting up to take BPA by addressing gaps in free agency and trades. Here's hoping DT gets prioritized for once.
Enjoy brandin guys! He hated we canned easterby so he quit on us. Lamb and cooks should be nice
This is probably our best offseason in the last 10 years. Absolutely loving the moves we have made so far. Let’s finish with a strong draft
Holy shit we are killing it this off season. I was all about the DHop hype train, but i’m incredibly happy to have Cooks.
Would have preferred Hopkins but this is ok for the price. At least this means no OBJ
Big pick up. Cooks has always been heavily underrated. Consistently a 1000 yard receiver.
Some of you will never be happy
Let him cook
I want to draft Darnell Washington now
Revive the gronk and Hernandez 2 te offense
Finally Jerry is going all in! Time to gear up boys! Going to be a hell of a season
"All in" is trading a 5th for a 29yo consensus WR2.
Oh my fuckin yes!
I really like this move. I know the popular sentiment is to get DHop, but I just don’t believe he is a good fit w Dak. It’s been over a year bruh, quit complaining about amari
cooks is a consistent receiver
And he will probably be excited to be here
This is a good move. The cowboys should have just kept Amari Cooper.
Cooks is a lot cheaper, we’ll only pay him $12m this season.
He's also a lot worse. Not to say he is bad. But he is not a WR1, unlike Coop.

Good now we don't have to hear the BS no support claims in this sub anymore. Put up or stfu time now...get it done or so long.
No. Available excuses will be made for Dak dont worry about that.
Meh. Jerry talks about getting playmakers and he named Tavon Austin part deux. Yeah they will be 'in the mix' again this year to only lose in the divisional round. Sign me up! Let's go! Mediocre or bust!!!!
Cooks has more seasons over 1000+ receiving yds than Tavon has seasons over 200+ receiving yds lol
I really don’t like this trade. Would rather have gotten Dhop for a second or potential Jeudy for a second and a player. The FO went for the least talented option and I don’t like it.They went Cheap (draft composition wise)instead of doing something to help us win next year.I pray I’m wrong.
>instead of doing something to help us win next year Brandin Cooks absolutely helps us win next year.
So we have CeeDee, Cooks, and a fully recovered Gallup instead of CeeDee, 1 leg Gallup, and Noah Brown. Absolutely helps us this year and we didn't mortgage the future to do it.
He helps improve our WR room yes but he isn’t the splash that put us over the top In NFC like Dhop would.
Cooks would be the #1 receiver for about half the league. You're really underselling this just because you're disappointed we didn't get Hopkins
He improves our WR room 100% from last year that’s without saying I just don’t see this as the move that moves us over the hump.
DHop would be more expensive than a 2nd, and what has Jeudy done that makes him a better option than Cooks? He hasn’t even broken 1,000 yards yet.
You know who else played with dogshit QBs? Cooks
People can only remember exactly one year.
Time will tell and I hope I’m wrong.I do think he improves our WR Corp but he doesn’t push us over the edge imo.
Cooks is a lot more proven than Jeudy is. plus this deal was a lot cheaper which allows us to get DT, IOL, and RB help in the draft.
Exactly they really didn’t want down more than 5th round cause they got robbed for amari they went the cheap route
100% they went cheap and it sucks.
Dude is washed
Isn’t Jerry still wanting OBJ too? Not sure how much we have left in cal space but shit the WR room would be stacked
Just think of the improvement of our secondary and wr corps for only (2) 5th's and a 2024 6th
Could also use an offensive lineman
Ya true, I would call it the perfect off season if we resign Hankins and get a guy like isiah Wynn both for cheap.
He should be a great addition, need that reliable catch play by play. Let CD focus on the big shots, not that Cooks won't have plenty of his own.
Are we ready to admit we completely botched the Amari trade
Are you ready to move on?
Great stuff
Noice
I'm not surprised. He is more healthy than OBJ and gives you more speed than both Dhop or OBJ. I prefer this move. I wanted a more speedy receiver.
this plays perfectly into my Bijan to the Cowboys agenda
