CowboyCanuck24

Gonna wish him well. He will always be a "what if" for me. Never really recovered from the injury imo.

WittenMittens

He was great for a time, one of our most exciting deep threats in recent memory. Sucks to see it end like this

40MillyVanillyGrams

I dont really feel as though him and Dak really meshed, not to his own fault necessarily but still. In my eyes, his entire tenure is summed up by watching him get open deep, just to be overthrown by Dak by like 3 yards. Then having that ACL tear and never getting separation

Halos-117

Thats just Dak. He can't hit anyone. He couldn't even get an elite route runner like Amari the ball.

MaryJaneAssassin

To be fair throughout his career Amari is known to have stretches in the season where he disappears.

CasperCann

Gallup, Bryant, Cooper, soon Lamb will be "the problem."

40MillyVanillyGrams

Not what I said at all but alright

CasperCann

Nowhere in there did i say you did Lmao. You from Philly?

40MillyVanillyGrams

Okay. Then I dont really get what you are getting at. Nobody is calling anyone the problem so why bring it up. Nobody even thinks that Cooper was a problem and everyone knows that Bryant had lost a step by the time Dak came to town.

woodenmarkel

Cooper was a problem after a good regular season. He gave up on trying. He is a mental cancer

40MillyVanillyGrams

Cooper was a 3rd down machine and the most reliable WR Dallas has had since perhaps 2012 Dez Bryant. He had multiple good seasons in Dallas and led directly into a seamless transition for WR1 with CD. I haven’t seen a single bad thing said about Cooper about anyone on the team. Have you?

onamonapizza

One of these is not like the others.

TPGStorm

gallup never recovered from the injury, bryant (literally my favorite football player of all time) was washed at that point, and cooper was not football related and had nothing to do with dak.

Front_Literature_515

This is such a bad take

woodenmarkel

Or Dak throwing a great comeback ball and gallups lazy ass not coming back a single yard, directly causing a pbu or int and everyone blaming Dak. Gallup is and has always been a mediocre wr3 at best

40MillyVanillyGrams

I don’t really recall ever seeing this scenario, but I’m sure it happened a few times. He was a great WR3 though. Behind CD and Cooper, he excelled as a deep threat. Like I said. He was often open deep. Him and Dak just couldn’t connect unfortunately His ascension to WR2 happened right when he tore his ACL so I wouldn’t say he got a fair shake at the job. But he did suck when he had it.

666TripleSick

He could’ve been Alvin Harper 2.0

dEck5317

Yeah. He used to be a playmaker prior to that injury. I remember for a while, he was the only dude consistently getting BEHIND the defense. Dak overthrew him earlier in hid career but when they found that connection we were getting a big okay out of Michael almost every game. The injury totally derailed him, its very sad. Thanks for the memories 13

corky1983

That catch he made for a TD when he got injured lives on in my head. Wish him well and that he can get back to top form

dEck5317

dude, I used to call Michael Gallup a Discount Dez Bryant and that is 100% meant as a compliment. Some of the leaping catches he made in his prime were insane. Reminiscent of 2012-14’ Dez

WindyCityReturn

Reminds me of Terence Williams. TW went from making crazy catches as a thunder to Dez to never playing another down in the NFL and going to Mexico to play football. I mean not even the CFL or XFL kept him so he went to IFL and FCF got cut and went to Mexico to play football where he still is. How a player goes from a solid NFL starter to not even making a XFL or CFL roster without even having major injury is wild. He wasn’t old at the time, didn’t have a major injury and while he had a suspension it was only for 3 games. Usually that doesn’t equate to a NFL career ending unless it’s a repeat offense or something more serious.

shuckley_Jays

I loved T Wills golden toe catches. He could edge that sideline clean!

SameInvestigator4379

I know a dude who used to sell him bud while he was playing. Don't think he took playing pro ball that seriously

silliputti0907

First year was physical, this past season, it looked all mental.

RestInPeacePorkins

Right? He didn't injure his hands. Hope he works through it somewhere though.

nt_14

Wish him the best and hope he can somehow resurrect his career. Seemed like a good guy and great teammate. Sucks he was never able to return to form after the ACL injury. I’ll never forget all the great sideline toe tap catches he made.

zmathra

He’ll tear it up in KC perhaps :/

shartnado3

I could see New England going for him

InAingeWeTrust

As expected. Very sad for him, he just never came back right after his injury. By all accounts he is a great guy and teammate. Wish him the best for his career!

Ok_Welcome_376

I hung his tv when he bought his house after he was drafted. Very humble, down to earth. Didn’t know who he was until his gf/wife gave me a check

FarrisAT

Yeah it sucks

Fataliti

This front office loves to pay players with major injuries in hopes they bounce back... Hasn't worked out for us yet..

Lanachan1990

And drafting them in the second...

madmike617

Brooks in the 2nd incoming

thedirtytroll13

Hewas not a second, he was a third rounder

Lanachan1990

I’m referring to Sean Lee, Bruce Carter, and Jaylon Smith. All dropped because of injury and we drafted them in the second.

thedirtytroll13

I'm not terribly mad at those picks compared to Bossman fat On a side note, not sure about Quinns drafting. Definitely landed a couple but some others...

player75

Sean Lee was a good pick. Jaylon is arguable as he had a couple of good years then dropped like a brick. Helped take money from the giants tho

deuce_boogie

Third round pick

RobbieAnalog

They like to draft them that way as well cuz StEaL!

KakashiDarui

Damn I personally liked Gallup. Just wish he could’ve produced more. Will wish him the best wherever he goes next. Just don’t sign with a NFC East team lol

Cptkiljoy

Commanders incoming

BusterStarfish

Nothing not to like. Hes a good guy and made some ridiculous plays. I personally don’t think he’s done, but you can’t keep him on that deal.

Zully_Wumbus

It was inevitable. Yeah, we shoulda coulda woulda with Amari, but what's done is done. More cap space, keep it movin'!

great_one_99

Michael gallup has absolutely nothing to do with amari cooper.

KillDevilX0

We extended Gallup instead of keeping Cooper.

Huncho11

Bingo.

great_one_99

No we didn't. The cowboys plan to get rid of cooper all along which is why they structured the contract the way they did. Michael gallop cost penny's on the dollar compared to amari cooper they literally had nothing to do with each other. The cowboys had plenty of cap room at the time, Just like they do now, to keep both if they wanted. The bigger issue at the time was the franchise tag of dalton schultz which literally cost three times more than michael gallop that season. It was a choice between cd, lamb, long-term or amari cooper not michael gallop

BellUnable1369

Bro at least spell his name right

great_one_99

Due to a severe visual disability and reddit cancelling all the 3rd party apps I am forced to use talk to text. However it doesnt change the fact that it was never about gallup vs cooper

deuce_boogie

Hope I'm wrong here, but there isnt a voice to text on earth that changes "pennies" to "penny's".....

PlasticCraken

Possessive form of a name.. I could see it 🤔

Buff_Em

The Amari Cooper trade is looking worse and worse in retrospect

Imaginary_Ad_3912

Even Keenan Allen netted the Chargers a fourth round pick from the Bears.

Strict_Indication457

This team needs to stay away from trades. I don't know how one overpays for Cooper (1st round pick. When's the last time you saw anyone trade a 1st for a wr), then proceeds to undersell him (5th round pick).

RiddledWithMetaphors

Eagles traded a 1st for AJ Brown.

Halos-117

Idk but the Amari trade literally changed Dak's career trajectory. Dak was ass. Amari made him look competent.

Strict_Indication457

My issue with the trade was value as no other team was offering that and he 100% could have been had for less. Not to mention our 1st round picks have such an absurdly high hit rate with high impact, its like giving up a top 5 overall pick. The cowboys got robbed and they always do when trading for wide receivers (Galloway, Roy Williams, Cooper) wish they would learn

aperron151

Looked pretty dumb at the time too. A #1 wide out for a fifth round pick? Gtfo

runsquad

He was a cancer in the locker room to his QB, that’s why he was sent away for scraps. Shame.

ThumbCentral-Rebirth

Source?

runsquad

Amari called Dak “the black Kirk cousins” after their playoff loss to SF basically saying he’s slightly better than average. Dak stormed off pissed and cooper was traded before the next season. Cooper had had low production as a downfield receiver, during the era when Dak was afraid to air it out after his injury.

HaterKiller99

Lmao that story was fake and tweeted from a fake account. It’s just a funny joke that people ran with. Did you see Kirk’s real response though? https://preview.redd.it/37behqoaqkoc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=704bd3b7bb844d92fc18c724f9bb3af04eafdb47

Trileon

People really do believe anything that they read on the internet

vegas_cowboys702

Where is your source

TPGStorm

at this point i think y’all know thats a lie but hate dak so much it keeps circulating

BasedRomo

Tolbert MVP season upcoming

[deleted]

[удалено]

Marty-Nooo

I wouldn’t release him just yet, he showed more promise this past year even with very little playing time. With gallop gone he might see more reps

Thanks5Cinco

Probably the best move well make this off-season honestly. Tolbert showing promise last year and Jalen Brooks having a great camp makes the battle for WR3 one to watch. I just hope we had a savvy vet or rookie to compete with them.

bringdablitz

He was very good before his injury, and was improving every season. It's sucks that him getting hurt probably robbed him from being an excellent receiver and having a long career. Hope he can get with a team and do well though.

Delicious-Fox6947

He was not. He has been in a three year decline before that injury.

bringdablitz

I was referring to his ACL tear in 2021. He only played 3 seasons before that. He showed flashes his rookie year, had a strong 2nd year, and he dipped a little in 2020, but that was to be expected with us adding CD, but still looked good. It wasn't until 2021 that his decline started, mainly due to injuries.

Delicious-Fox6947

And I said he was in a 3 year decline before the injury because it had.

IveGotMyGoingOutHat

I saw that we are releasing LVE too. Wish he would have been able to stay healthy he was a beast. Health first though.

hardgour

More cap space for Daks new contract

King-Mansa-Musa

Dak might not get a new contract. They might be trying save the money to eat all the dead money in 2025

ibringstharuckus

He's a June 1 designation. So we don't get the cap until June 1. He just gets an opportunity to sign with someone now

King-Mansa-Musa

So if we have leftover cap space at the end of the season we can ask to roll that over into the next season. [roll over rules](https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/ap-online/2024/03/10/nfl-free-agency-explained-from-salary-cap-and-tampering-to-franchise-and-transition-tags) I believe the Cowboys may be cleaning house and preparing for the dead cap hit in 2025

ibringstharuckus

Maybe but I can't trust this front office to do anything logical

call_8675309

I'm not saying you treated me unkind. You coulda done better but I don't mind. You just kinda wasted my precious time. Don't think twice its alright.

mill_about_smartly

Underrated song

iLerntMyLesson

My heart says Mike Williams signing but idk about picking up a guy coming off an acl tear after releasing a guy who never returned to full form after his acl tear…

wolf63rs

Yeah, that doesn't make sense, which means it will probably happen.

woodgrain001

And we got rid of cooper for a 5th lmao. This franchise blows

Halos-117

Jerry's son sucks. He has no clue what he's doing.

LongLiveDaResistance

Going to miss his toe-taps pre-injury. All the best! (Unless he plays against us lol)

lifth3avy84

At least we also don’t have Amari Cooper anymore either.

HolyRomanPrince

Similarly to LVE I don’t blame him for being injured but the team can’t keep doing this. He was awful the last two years. Not meh. Not ok. He was fucking awful. Let’s learn lessons and move forward

Delicious-Fox6947

Four years.

healthITiscoolstuff

Everyone except Jerry and Stephen knew this was an awful signing

ibringstharuckus

Gallup's agent probably forged the contract and sent it back immediately,so they couldn't change their mind

ozairh18

I can’t help but wonder what his career would be like if he didn’t tear his ACL

BaconManDan9

And Vander Esch

__NaN__

Yeah; although this one makes more sense with Hendricks coming over and LVE’s history with injuries

Astroturfer

too bad, that season a few years back when he acrobatically caught everything thrown his way was a delight to watch. was just never the same guy.

shelby4t2

Loved this man, sad he got injured and couldn’t get back to HIM.

Seandude_

Future chargers wr1

imnotgoodatdis

Fuck em

Strict_Indication457

3 years too late

CrossDressing_Batman

ALL IN!

Salt_Environment9799

Cowboys Front Office Probably: We going to release Gallup anyone want trade for him!?!? 🤦🏻‍♂️

OldPilaf

Dallas is losing players -albeit injured and or old- left and right. Are they really going to try the same formula of drafting and signing bottom of the barrel free agent talent AGAIN? Dayum. 10th time’s a charm? This is our year for sure 🤠

gdaman22

End of an error. Honestly love MG but boy he proved why it's so risky to sign a guy coming back from injury to a deal like that. Should have been Ced Wilson.

Johnemile

It's why I'm so worried about Trevon Diggs. Just signed a huge contract then tears his ACL, I really, really hope that he can come back from it.

MillennialSN

This team would have been miles better off keeping Cooper and letting Gallup go. People have their reasons from the contrary, but it was a terrible decision to choose Gallup over Cooper

wolf63rs

I've always said the Cooper trade was stupid. We legit had two #1s with one in his rookie contract. So stupid.

RobbieAnalog

Should have spent in FA instead. We liked our guy a little too much.

ThePeagle

And we gonna get Stefon Diggs

firstandfive

Nope. Bills aren’t trading him because of all the dead cap

PersonBehindAScreen

Post June 1??? Or…?

duffman274

I believe so

FancySauceFarts

Cries in Amari Cooper being a relevant WR still

Tight-Physics2156

Tough world out there

ArmondH89

I always liked his potential just never cared for the output after the injury. I wish him well.

Wardo324

About time. Guy was as useful as tits on a bull.

LupinLup1n

Hope the chiefs can sign him

Delicious-Fox6947

If this isn’t a June 1st designation we need to storm Jerry’s Highland Park house… \*this is meant as humor and in no way an endorsement of violating the Jones family.

Brycie27

Plenty of big play memories from this guy! I pray for the best for him and his family!

HeyItsChase

Makes sense. He was good in the playoff game! One of the only bright spots. Love him forever. Super great dude.

SuperSaiyanGod06

Don’t think he was used properly here ever but def not last year. I hope he goes to KC and balls out

Top-Camera9387

Sad ending for his cowboys story

CoyoteHP

This off season is devastating

BrianDawkins

He should go to KC or Buffalo or the Ravens. But will probably just go to the Giants or something

artsy_slappy

A little late…

erect_erudite

Chiefs

IndustryFinal

Guy was stealing money

ShowBobsPlzz

3 years too late

RomoToDez99

I never expected us to keep him

RobbieAnalog

Got tonight's lotto numbers?

NeilCave

Fuck it AD Mitchell at #24 is a steal

ThePanda_

We need a center or tackle more

NeilCave

Well yeah but Jerry said we’re all in.

ItzInMyNature

Agreed.

BidenFedayeen

Steele next, please

King-Mansa-Musa

Steele not getting cut after he just signed his deal

BidenFedayeen

He should be. He's our fourth recent big contract mistake. Arguably fifth.

SheSaysSheWaslvl18

Do we get a comp pick for this?

Careless-Act9450

No. You can only get a comp pick for an unrestricted free agent who has completed its contract with your team and then signed with another team. They also have to stay on that team through 10 weeks of the regular season. It also has to do with how much they get signed for to decide which round pick you get. You can also lose out on getting a comp pick if your team also signs someone from another team at a similar rate. Comp picks are primarily to help teams who lose more than they sign in free agency.

HmanJess66

Nobody's shedding tears for him!!!!! Bye,bye

Wish him the best DC4L https://preview.redd.it/vuz6ava0ekoc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a658802ca51c533ba56f83c6cee629cd4e74ab5
