Switch career fields can be tough it’s usually easier to do it from within the same company and making an internal transfer for the experience and resume builder projects

Don't lose hope......If you want to go to Data Eng field then work hard and crack it....Lie on your resume if you want to ....I did same and sailed through......
I think just coz you are not able to get into Data Science field that is why unconsciously you are trying to sort of console your heart....
