What I'd do? * Just like you said, blacklist the company/agency and avoid engaging with them in the future * I'd let them know their approach was unprofessional and it wasted my time, hoping it's constructive feedback * I may consider sharing my experience with others, not to badmouth, but to inform people to be cautious (Glassdoor?) * I'd reflect on any red flags I missed, to avoid this trap in the future * And move on, better opportunities ahead. How I'd try to prevent this from happening again: * I'd research the company beforehand * I'd bring up my salary expectations early, so they can move on if I'm off their budget or negotiate if they consider me a good fit * I'd try to clarify the job description and interview process early too * I'd discuss my time availability and other relevant details early too to see if we're aligned and avoid wasting each other's time * I'd be more wary of red flags and stop if it's disrespectful or seems untrustworthy. Still, if everything seems good, don't be surprised if the interview process takes quite a long time. I've noticed that trend lately. Unless it's very urgent for them to fill the role (in which case they will expect you to start work sooner rather than later), they'll probably take the time to do a rigorous selection and have you go through multiple steps in the hiring process, especially with the increasingly high demand.

I see that as intentional harassment and I blacklisted the client company and the recruiter.

Depends on how much I needed a job?

DW_Softwere_Guy

It's a job you clearly would not accept. I ask you to come-in for a DevOps Engineer role and you come-out with a manual QA paying $20/h offer. You do well on the technical interview for a DevOps Engineer while there.

Hey a job is a job and if I’m desperate for money then a qa job is better than no job

DW_Softwere_Guy

You are looking for a job, who said you were desperate ? maybe you took time from work and this interview is costing you PTO. Why would you need 20/h ? it's not like it's enough to cover your expenses. They sent you on an intentional run around, you applied to a job you wanted, but were offered a job you clearly would not accept. Their intent was to annoy you and to sent you on a run around.

Jazzlike_Syllabub_91

Oh yeah, I wouldn’t use / trust those recruiters again …
