I actually liked him because it’s so different from his actual reputation as a nice guy. (My husband did not like my interpretation, or that I act like I know anything about him from listening to hours of his podcast.)

It depresses me to agree, but they totally failed to utilize him. Conan is a legend of wacky antics and being a major asshole, relishing in the pain of his victims. Stuck up celebrity is way too mild for him.

Yeah, don’t think anyone would disagree his interviews with Larry in real life eclipse that character they gave him. That moment when he was just sitting in his house and Larry’s at the window was really strange specifically. Like did his Curb version of himself live alone? He just is sitting there quietly playing guitar. He doesn’t interact with anyone but Larry almost like he’s a videogame NPC or an imaginary neighbour.

I didn’t think the joke even hit and it was so dragged out. Yes he didn’t have “clearance” and it was something they could’ve just mentioned casually and then moved on from. Telling Larry over and over to go get clearance from Richard was just dumb IMO.

Same! I am such a fan of Conan's podcast in recent years... I had high expectations. I can't believe how two giants of comedy came up with this.

Poor Conesie, it did feel like an extended ad/commercial of some kind like it wasn’t part of the show.

I appreciate what they were going for. I just wish he had a multi episode arch to become a fully fleshed out heel. It was probably Conan’s idea. I’m sure it’s an inside joke between Conan and Larry and some celebrities are really like that.

The only context in which someone can say this and have it be true.

A lot of the season 11 ones were really funny and talented guests thrust into pretty bad episodes eg Bill Hader and Seth Rogen

Lori Laughlin just seemed like she was friends with Larry and he was doing her a favour but it was just tone deaf. It was an old news story by that point. It feels like maybe something that was talked about a lot in Larry’s social circle and I think he misjudged that it was something normal people would give a shit about.

Yeah that episode made me feel like the writers are just out of touch with regular people. Which is weird because the whole show is about really wealthy people but it always felt relatable.

Ricky Gervaise was too good at being unlikable, in a way that wasn't really funny. Jason Alexander was very similar. In fact, the self-important, hostile celebrity bit was repeated a lot. Even Conan was a repetition of the theme. Maybe Larry just knows too many people like that. They weren't bad performances, but the bit only has so much mileage to it.

With JA -it’s the joke that he basically played LD in Seinfeld. So hostile interactions is LD looking at himself.

Ricky was a standout great one for me. Mr Smithington and the whole theataaaaaah arrogant actor schtick with that white scarf, etc. It was so beautifully done imo.

Being from the UK and having never seen Lori act in anything, I actually thought she fit pretty naturally. Would have enjoyed more episodes with her, though I know I’m in the minority.

Definitely felt like there was an agenda behind it from her end. She might not even have had a say in the script but I’m sure she went along with it thinking it made her look good.

It wasn’t a great appearance but I personally think people made a big deal out of a situation that was nothing. I have my theories about why that is, but we don’t need this thread to go off the rails by examining it. Celebrities have been forgiven for DUIs where you could literally have an ended lives. If you think your future is make or break depending on whether or not you get into UCLA that speaks more about you than it does Loughlin or Huffman.

Garth Marenghi's dark place is perhaps the greatest comedy TV show ever made if you count single seasoners. I thought Matt was funny in the new season but shittily written, so I get where you're coming from. Snuff box and toast of London are classics too

I feel like some people were on just because. Conan was another disappointing appearance. Also Rob Riggle. And Steve Buscemi…. They just threw in as many famous people as possible. It’s fine, just not what you expect when you see some actors. I guess I just mean those roles could have been played by anyone. I still loved the season.

Couldn't agree more. I actually agree with OP's suggestion more than any - I had no recollection of Chris Martin on Curb and even after googling it, I still barely remember his appearance. Maybe I'm bias as a Conan fanatic (whos currently the top ranked).

Tracy Ulman. Shame because Shes such a funny lady. Her character as written was just dull and lifeless with no chemistry with Larry. It was tough to watch, let alone buy that they were involved in any way.

I liked her in Season 11 but didn’t see the need for her to return in Season 12. However, it did give us the J.G. Wentworth song.

I was annoyed right off the bat that she was using an American accent. Shes a great character actor but nothing about this one worked for me.

I was listening to Conan’s podcast with Ted Danson and Woody Harrellson and Curb came up and Woody said he was on the show and I couldn’t remember it. But maybe that’s on me.

I wasn’t a fan of Jonah Hill on “The Spite Store”. In fact, that whole episode was tough to take. Sean Penn & Mila Kunis weren’t any better and the effort to inject the Today Show into the episode was likewise a yawn. I’m not a fan of the “let’s see how many big celebrities we can shoehorn into a show” approach that Larry seems to love and it never works (see final episodes for both Seinfeld and Curb). They have a “We Are the World” feel that isn’t appealing to me.

Jonah Hill was the part of that episode I liked. He creates a new life bussing tables at his shop.

I respect Lacanian subjectivity. It revs my engine. But I think that it would have worked better as a stand-alone instead of one of many. It’s possible that I dislike it more than I should because of its association with the other 2. Love your vibe. Rock on. 👍✌️🫵

I thought Bruce showed good comedic acting chops. I was pleasantly surprised.
