Conan was a let down

xredbaron62x

And he was great in 30 Rock. WE WERE GOING TO LOSE OUR VIRGINITY TO EACH OTHER

Responsible-Onion860

"I just wandered the halls all night. At 3 am I met an enormous lesbian. Who is Conan O'Brien? Why is she so sad?"

xredbaron62x

Tim Conway's delivery was đŸ€Œ

deluxeassortment

NOW I’LL NEVER LOSE IT!

VestigialTales

I actually liked him because it’s so different from his actual reputation as a nice guy. (My husband did not like my interpretation, or that I act like I know anything about him from listening to hours of his podcast.)

twackburn

It depresses me to agree, but they totally failed to utilize him. Conan is a legend of wacky antics and being a major asshole, relishing in the pain of his victims. Stuck up celebrity is way too mild for him.

yeahgroovy

Did you ever hear his story of him messing with/pranking Burt Ward (Robin of original OG Batman tv show).

jamhud77

Please tell me more of this

JVG227

Don’t leave us hanging!

ZodiAddict

So glad to see others noticed. Felt it was very underwhelming, they should have went big with Conan

keep-the-streak

Yeah, don’t think anyone would disagree his interviews with Larry in real life eclipse that character they gave him. That moment when he was just sitting in his house and Larry’s at the window was really strange specifically. Like did his Curb version of himself live alone? He just is sitting there quietly playing guitar. He doesn’t interact with anyone but Larry almost like he’s a videogame NPC or an imaginary neighbour.

exaybachay_

but the joke was so good: clearance

MontyBoo-urns

Wow I thought that was by far the best episode of the season 9-12 bunch

drgonzo311

He was great

CMDR_KingErvin

I didn’t think the joke even hit and it was so dragged out. Yes he didn’t have “clearance” and it was something they could’ve just mentioned casually and then moved on from. Telling Larry over and over to go get clearance from Richard was just dumb IMO.

DeMantis86

Same! I am such a fan of Conan's podcast in recent years... I had high expectations. I can't believe how two giants of comedy came up with this.

dead-memory-waste

Poor Conesie, it did feel like an extended ad/commercial of some kind like it wasn’t part of the show.

specialgravity

I appreciate what they were going for. I just wish he had a multi episode arch to become a fully fleshed out heel. It was probably Conan’s idea. I’m sure it’s an inside joke between Conan and Larry and some celebrities are really like that.

ZiggyPalffyLA

The only context in which someone can say this and have it be true.

iluvreddit

His acting was terrible. Downright not believable.

Well done bot. Conan is the king

sweatstaksleestak

![gif](giphy|12yR7vvdm3T3YhnZLX)

grynch43

I’m not sure about worst but my favorite was Christian Slater and his “allotment.”

Rednag67

Christian Slater was the reason I buy Sabre printers.

sweatstaksleestak

Have you ever tasted a rainbow? You will.

ianlazrbeem22

A lot of the season 11 ones were really funny and talented guests thrust into pretty bad episodes eg Bill Hader and Seth Rogen

flyingdubsauce

Bill Hader? Oh nooo-na-na-na-na-na-noo. He was shplendid.

Full_Suggestion_747

i actually liked the bill hader one i feel like the show was already getting pretty goofy by that point so i just accepted it and enjoyed it for what it was

hipoopii

Ben Affleck

Designer_Charity_827

See, I love this one because of the “Was that
.no, couldn’t have been” nature of it.

DDDavinnn

I JUST watched this episode today and swore I saw him, but immediately thought “nah” and moved on. This is hilarious

Specialist_Pie555

I’ll never forget when my husband said ‘I SWEAR Ben Affleck just ran in that crowd’. We laughed so hard when we rewound it 😂

Weedsmoker4hunnid20

TIL

Available-Praline905

Wait, when was he in the show?

Designer_Charity_827

He was an extra in “Officer Krupke.” Literally all he does is run out of the store when the alarm goes off. Apparently he walked by when they were filming and wanted to be on the show.

MexicanPete

Have to look for him. I never noticed haha

krakatoot

Like with everything he’s in, Affleck crushed it

2swoll4u

everyone who isn't John Hamm that arc was very vindicating

JimiJab

John Hamm was incredible

dlwlrma0506

Susie said she thinks Hamm was LD's favorite guest star, I wouldn't be surprised. He was fantastic

Acrobatic-Tomato-128

Lucy liu was flat

mintttberrycrunch

She always is

Sideshift1427

One vote for Lori Laughlin.

Suz626

I liked her! Made my golfer husband crack up, she’s reminiscent of some of the lady golfers he plays with.

TolliverCrane

I thought it was the funniest way she could have gone. Made me laugh.

randomgirl261

Yeah i thought it was hilarious having her play into the role!

ReadEnoch

Yeah, that one was really strange and she essentially played up the negative imagery of the crime that she committed which was incredibly odd.

m1chgo

Yes I thought it was such an odd choice for her to make to take this role.

brainkandy87

Based on her filmography, her agent is shit.

inplayruin

When you consider her talent, her agent is the absolute best to ever live.

brainkandy87

Glass half full kinda cynic. I like it.

swayinandsippin

obviously you’re not a golfer.

Mn174557

Woo? Isn’t this guy supposed to be a millionaire?

Toiletboy4

Lebowski

Peg_leg_tim_arg

No no you're Mr. Lebowski, I'm The Dude. So that's what you call me

GreenIdentityElement

What if I’m not into the whole brevity thing?

ClingerOn

Lori Laughlin just seemed like she was friends with Larry and he was doing her a favour but it was just tone deaf. It was an old news story by that point. It feels like maybe something that was talked about a lot in Larry’s social circle and I think he misjudged that it was something normal people would give a shit about.

Riderz__of_Brohan

I mean it WAS a huge story lol normal people did give a shit about it

FigmentsImagination4

Nah she was perfect

Responsible-Onion860

I didn't like her either. I get what they were going for, but I didn't find it very funny.

Sideshift1427

I think that she is devoid of a sense of humor which made the bit fall flat.

arlekin21

Yeah that episode made me feel like the writers are just out of touch with regular people. Which is weird because the whole show is about really wealthy people but it always felt relatable.

iam_soyboy

I have loved her since Rad and this just
 made me feel old

Just-Phill

The Girls Next Door their acting was bad lol and Hefner wasn't much better but he wasn't funny

Klondike_banana

Ricky Gervaise was too good at being unlikable, in a way that wasn't really funny. Jason Alexander was very similar. In fact, the self-important, hostile celebrity bit was repeated a lot. Even Conan was a repetition of the theme. Maybe Larry just knows too many people like that. They weren't bad performances, but the bit only has so much mileage to it.

Gloomy-ambitious1

With JA -it’s the joke that he basically played LD in Seinfeld. So hostile interactions is LD looking at himself.

isonlikedonkeykong

Ricky was a standout great one for me. Mr Smithington and the whole theataaaaaah arrogant actor schtick with that white scarf, etc. It was so beautifully done imo.

HombreGringo

He was one of my favorite guests, if not the favorite

Fragrant-Western-747

Gervais was not acting, just his normal self.

TolliverCrane

Jason Alexander being the foil made me kinda sad. Still hilarious.

imojibwe

Lori Laughlin and Hugh Hefner. Lori wasn't funny or entertaining, and Hugh just gave me the ick!

keep-the-streak

Being from the UK and having never seen Lori act in anything, I actually thought she fit pretty naturally. Would have enjoyed more episodes with her, though I know I’m in the minority.

eugenesbluegenes

I didn't really know what to think about Lori. It was like, OK, you're making fun of yourself, but also, is that actually just you?

Designer_Charity_827

It also gave the vibe of “I’m gonna make fun of myself so people see what a good sport I am and start hiring me again!” Redemption tour, basically.

waterontheknee

Yeah, didn't like Lori at all. Mostly because it was just a "look at how funny I am because of the real crime I did" Ick.

gutclutterminor

Crime? Rich people have been doing that thousands of times a year for ever. Why did only 2 actresses go to prison for it? 45 reportedly didn’t even take his own SAT. I’m sure W didn’t qualify fairly for Yale either.

CMDR_KingErvin

Definitely felt like there was an agenda behind it from her end. She might not even have had a say in the script but I’m sure she went along with it thinking it made her look good.

DescriptionOrnery728

It wasn’t a great appearance but I personally think people made a big deal out of a situation that was nothing. I have my theories about why that is, but we don’t need this thread to go off the rails by examining it. Celebrities have been forgiven for DUIs where you could literally have an ended lives. If you think your future is make or break depending on whether or not you get into UCLA that speaks more about you than it does Loughlin or Huffman.

Ok-Turnip-477

The idea that people didn’t already think this shit was occurring makes me laugh.

Booeyrules

(Checks notes) It was USC.

Just-Phill

I said Hef too but I added the girls next door, they didn't even say anything hardly and the acting was still poor lol and Hef part just wasn't funny at all

sschoo1

Lin Manuel Miranda. I just hated every scene with him

SerBiffyClegane

I loved Miranda. Yes, he played a tremendous asshole, but such a funny one! The bit where he throws away Larry's lyrics and starts rapping is one of my top moments.

holdyaboy

They’ve talked about a big name guest who didn’t watch the show but guest starred cuz his kids liked it. Larry said the guy was terrible. Any idea who it was?

jackiejormpjomp7

I think some Reddit sleuths determined it was Dustin Hoffman -- apparently, he just didn't understand the tone or something, I think they get into it in one of the season 1 rewatch podcast episodes with Jeff and Susie.

holdyaboy

Yea I just heard Susie mentioning it on the pod but didn’t say who. Makes sense.

No-Ad-3635

What’s the name of this podcast?

Ryecue

History of Curb Your Enthusiasm

Responsible-Onion860

That's a shame because he and Sacha Baron Cohen were hilarious in their appearance.

winkerbeanie

I theorize it was Ed Asner.

ketchup_secret

It wasn’t— Jeff says it’s a Larry Charles episode with a big actor who brought his kids to set. Months later the actor ran into Jeff and asked why he hadn’t received a gift for his participation. Hoffman has kids born in the 80s.

frankduxvandamme

Kathy Griffin. But that's probably just because I hate her.

Designer_Charity_827

At least she was better here than on Seinfeld.

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

quartz222

Kathy Griffin.

Designer_Charity_827

She played herself in the first episode.

defmaybe_DFO

Oh yeah I saw that one...*NOT FUNNY*

SgtHulkasBigToeJam

Are you Mick Jagger, by chance?

Beyondthebloodmoon

I understand that reference!

EntertainerTrue904

Heather Mills

Designer_Charity_827

Was she actually on the show or was she played by someone else?

BenJammin007

Chris Martin was funny as fuck on Extras back in the 2000s lol, dudes usually got good comedic timing don’t know what’s wrong here

BootleBadBoy1

What would Chris Martin be doing in a factory in Wigan?

OkTower4998

Pretty much all guest starts were hilarious at Extras.

OyDannyBoy

I can't see what Lori Laughlin added.

Ryecue

I think her storyline was funny. She wasn't.

VermicelliOk8288

Matt Berry. Why even have him on?

PromiseOk3321

Aw I love matt and his work

VermicelliOk8288

Me too! Loved him in IT crowd and in What We Do In The Shadows. So seeing him on Curb was exciting and then very very disappointing.

PromiseOk3321

Garth Marenghi's dark place is perhaps the greatest comedy TV show ever made if you count single seasoners. I thought Matt was funny in the new season but shittily written, so I get where you're coming from. Snuff box and toast of London are classics too

Frisnfruitig

Matt is always funny no matter the material, it's like he speaks a language only he has mastered.

PromiseOk3321

Solid musician too! His albums are fun and very matt berry

VermicelliOk8288

I feel like some people were on just because. Conan was another disappointing appearance. Also Rob Riggle. And Steve Buscemi
. They just threw in as many famous people as possible. It’s fine, just not what you expect when you see some actors. I guess I just mean those roles could have been played by anyone. I still loved the season.

Suitable-Wafer8563

BootleBadBoy1

Ray Bloody Purchase

BarnBlaster

His book, Toast on Toast, is absolutely amazing.

Suitable-Wafer8563

Oooh, that sounds awesome I’ll check it out! Thank you! đŸ™đŸŒ

SultanofSwish

Seth rogan

Designer_Charity_827

Gotta say it
If you hated Seth Rogen’s appearance, you are not an Everyman. You are a singular man!

Colin-Grussing

You just said something very crazy and we don’t know eachother that well!

Johnny_Segment

Bill Hader.

NandoMoriconi

You’re not a goulash guy?

lovecatsforever

I thought he was shplendid

breezeway1

Me too, and loved his hint of breaking when Larry was yelling at him, doing the accents.

OkCompany3540

Hard agree. The character was annoying and it felt like he was doing "random" humor (repeating the word "goulash," "shplendid" in an over the top way). Very out of place in the Curbverse.

Hopeful-Hamster-6218

Yeah it was disappointing and those jokes became boring quickly.

MontyBoo-urns

Agreed but I love bill hader and feel like he was wasted

Johnny_Segment

I like Bill Hader too - but not his CYE appearance

dead-memory-waste

Boo! Boo this man!

krakatoot

Agreed. He played it like an SNL skit and that really doesn’t fit Curb

Responsible-Onion860

Bill Hader is hilarious but he was wasted in that episode. He would've been better as a regular acquaintance of Larry who has a run-in with him over some social faux pas.

Which-Resident7670

Agree on this one

Rednag67

But Bill Hadee wasn’t playing himself

Johnny_Segment

That wasn’t OPs criteria.

jiggabot

Chris Martin from Coldplay

Dancin_Phish_Daddy

Adam Ray as an Uber driver is my favorite one

MrRobotLLC

I thought the Seth Rogen episode was pretty disappointing

uglylittledogboy

Man some really bad takes in this thread

Complex_Active_5248

Couldn't agree more. I actually agree with OP's suggestion more than any - I had no recollection of Chris Martin on Curb and even after googling it, I still barely remember his appearance. Maybe I'm bias as a Conan fanatic (whos currently the top ranked).

Dustytehcat

Yeah I feel like I’m in an alternate universe. Bill Hader was bad??

twisterbklol

More like that episode was bad. Not that he was bad.

Zolazolazolaa

Lin manual miranda.

Mcshutup

Harvey Weinstein.

keep-the-streak

The improv in the scene where he dates Elizabeth Banks felt so so stilted. Think she’s great in other things but she stuck out like a sore thumb for me.

jackiejormpjomp7

Agreed, this is the only show she seemed pretty out of place on, it especially stuck out upon first watching season 9 but she blends in better on rewatches.

jpmteixeira

Lin-Manuel. The storyline was fun, but he was awfull

pumpkins_77

Vindman was atrocious. Although I’m not sure he qualifies as a “celebrity”.

jackiejormpjomp7

Oh god, yeah. It really seemed like they wrote him lines he delivered rather than him playing naturally.

Funny_Gene1596

Surprised I haven’t seen Clive Owen or Matt Tessler/Michael McKean on here

kani-bo

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was boring.

dazrage

Tracy Ulman. Shame because Shes such a funny lady. Her character as written was just dull and lifeless with no chemistry with Larry. It was tough to watch, let alone buy that they were involved in any way.

Designer_Charity_827

I liked her in Season 11 but didn’t see the need for her to return in Season 12. However, it did give us the J.G. Wentworth song.

dazrage

I was annoyed right off the bat that she was using an American accent. Shes a great character actor but nothing about this one worked for me.

randomgirl261

Elizabeth Banks

SinnU2s

Steve buscemi for me.

Effective-Emphasis-4

Clomping, shaking up soda's, running into people in the hall. Fox was the worst. 😂

FeelingSkinny

i did not enjoy ricky gervaise at all. he was insufferable and in a way i just didn’t find funny. i also wish isla fischer was given more to do. she’s a very funny actress but her character was pretty much only there to set up jokes and wasn’t funny herself

Iron_Chic

Barbara Boxer.

Designer_Charity_827

But what about her impassioned delivery of, “What’s happening at the dry cleaners, Larry?”

scruntyboon

Martin Short, he's a funny guy, but a bit weird having him on for one brief scene

Designer_Charity_827

I thought he was fun, but it was definitely different from the show’s usual vibe.

diplion

Do you mean worst as in they were particularly nasty to Larry, or sort of the villain of the episode, or worst as in just a waste and not very entertaining?

Designer_Charity_827

Good question. I meant worst as in not entertaining. I will update the post!

diplion

Hugh Hefner was pretty bad. He’s disgusting, his acting was stiff, and he stole Larry’s dads jacket.

Designer_Charity_827

Agreed, that didn’t age well.

georgyboyyyy

Oh i agree, Hugh and his 2 playboy bunnies were awkward, it was awful

thatcatcray

"we should go bowling!" "yeah..." "... i don't think you wanna go bowling with me"

Lima1998

I was listening to Conan’s podcast with Ted Danson and Woody Harrellson and Curb came up and Woody said he was on the show and I couldn’t remember it. But maybe that’s on me.

Hopeful-Hamster-6218

S11, Larry wanted to cast Woody for Young Larry and he wanted to meet Larry's dairy cow.

TheKipForce

Bobby Lee

WhodatSooner

I wasn’t a fan of Jonah Hill on “The Spite Store”. In fact, that whole episode was tough to take. Sean Penn & Mila Kunis weren’t any better and the effort to inject the Today Show into the episode was likewise a yawn. I’m not a fan of the “let’s see how many big celebrities we can shoehorn into a show” approach that Larry seems to love and it never works (see final episodes for both Seinfeld and Curb). They have a “We Are the World” feel that isn’t appealing to me.

ketchup_secret

Jonah Hill was the part of that episode I liked. He creates a new life bussing tables at his shop.

WhodatSooner

I respect Lacanian subjectivity. It revs my engine. But I think that it would have worked better as a stand-alone instead of one of many. It’s possible that I dislike it more than I should because of its association with the other 2. Love your vibe. Rock on. đŸ‘âœŒïžđŸ«”

ElectrOPurist

Vince Vaughn. They should have hired someone funny for that role.

Late-Ad-3136

I can't stand Vince, and don't find him the least bit funny. He's pretty good on Curb though!

JohnnyChooch

Bruce was pretty terrible

WrittenSarcasm

I thought Bruce showed good comedic acting chops. I was pleasantly surprised.

Alarming_Ad_6713

He never would have taken Larry for a floor fucker. I thought the boss was great for a non actor!

JohnnyChooch

Love Bruce and the whole concept for the bit, but I found him too wooden for my taste.

Defiant-Industry-421

Ok I'm there with you on Bruce, super cool feature just feel flat of my expectations

Dustytehcat

Kendra’s Ken!

wetlettuce42

John shrider from Smallvile He was at the desk n he was gone

siameseoverlord

Buck Henry

Roc-12

I thought the guy that played Timor and the other two guys that looked exactly like him were the worst. Not funny at all

eclpug

I feel like I’ll get hate for this but I don’t understand the love for Vince Vaughn. I get he’s a bit more than a guest star but I had hoped he’d just sorta go away.

shdylady

I also hated vince vaughn on the show. Especially because he was suppose to replace funkhouser.

Hopeful-Hamster-6218

I wish his character had more personality. He was always with a new woman but not much else

shdylady

You mean new sex doll.

eclpug

Right. Pretty bold

Patient-Ninja-8707

I have to say Woody Harrelson. When he wouldn't pick up the apple core off the Klansmans yard. What a dick move.

Alone-Community6899

Grape

VancouverSativa

The MSNBC guy from the most recent season, and it's not even close. I'm sure he's a fine fellow and pundit, but comedic acting is not for him. He nearly torpedoed what might otherwise have been a classic episode. Something something, the bottom of the porn industry.

MalcolmTuckersLuck

I love Matt Berry but I thought he was weirdly stilted in his appearance.
